Small guest house excellent service close to Kyoto station. We got a lot of support with baggage handling as well as all questions on best activities in Kyoto. Communication in English. Lounge available for guests.

Lovely staff! They even remembered me from when I last stayed here about 4.5 years ago! Nicest staff I have ever met. The hostel is very clean, quiet, and in a lovely, quiet area of Kyoto. Not too hard to venture out, however, due to its proximity to the train stations. But when in Kyoto, it's best to bike, and the hostel provides bike rentals. Would definitely stay again!

I recommend this guesthouse 100%. ||The staff is incredibly friendly and helps you as much as they can.||The whole guesthouse is very clean and neat. The rooms have a nice size, the beds are spacious, the sanitary facilities are clean and you can even use the bath to relax. The kitchen/common room is very big with modern furniture and the kitchen offers all the utensils you need. They also have a laptop that you can use 24h and offer a lot of material for planning your Kyoto trips such as maps and guide books.||The atmosphere is very warm and open. I felt incredibly welcome and comfortable.||I'm a student and felt like the guesthouse was comfortably affordable to me, especially considering the quality of the stay.||If I can return to Kyoto I will definitely stay here again.||||The location of the questhouse is very good as well! The house itself lies in a small side street but is just a one-minute walk away from a big main road (Gojo Dori). There you'll immediately find a seven-7 at the corner and more importantly the Gojo subway station. Going from Gojo Station to Kyoto main station takes around 5 minutes.||If you like to walk you can also reach a more lively and modern corner of Kyoto with a lot of shopping and restaurant options (and even a gaming arcade!) within 25-30 minutes. (If you use google maps, you can either use the shopping mall called "OIOI" or the mall called "mina" as reference points. Google maps might put out a complicated route that leads you through a lot of little streets but actually it's a very straight forward march. ||When you follow the little side road from the guesthouse to the big road "Gojo Dori", turn right (not towards the Gojo station right at the seven-7 but the other direction) and walk straight forward until you reach a big crossing section. Turn left. There is a building of the "Bank of Kyoto, Kawaramachi Branch" right at the corner of the road that you now enter. Then walk straight all the time until you reach OIOI first and mina shortly after that.)||In that area you'll also find the Nishiki Market Shopping district, a very recommendable market area. You also have a cherry blossom viewing spot nearby (a small river lined with cherry trees) and can reach Gion by foot (and even the Heian shrine if you are not afraid to walk another 20 minutes).||||Also, close to mina is the vegan restaurant Ain Soph.Journey who offer amazing food.||||All in all I'm very glad that I could stay at the Jiyu-Jin. The service, location and price are great.||||Best wishes||Leona

Highly recommend Jiyu-jin to any travellers looking for somewhere basic but clean, quiet and friendly to stay. I can't stress enough how nice the staff here were! They were extra friendly and really helpful, telling us about festivals and events going on in the area, transportation and how to get to sightseeing spots. They provide loads of maps and info for you! |The hostel is super clean, with a little kitchen and good shower facilities and even a bath if you want one. I was in a 4 bed bunk dormitory but you have privacy because there are curtains around the bunk. |The location is good, it is a minute's walk from Gojo metro station and very close to buses that take you to popular sightseeing areas like the Golden Temple. There is a 7/11 and really cheap restaurants nearby. Just down the road is Shosei-en garden which is beautiful and worth a look.

Staff was very friendly. Always tried to create conversation regardless of your native language. The accommodations were very clean and modern looking. Bathrooms were a bit cold at night but that's because they don't have heat in the common areas of the guest house (they DO have heat in the rooms though). Besides from the cold, very clean and sanitary. We slept in a four bed dorm and the beds were a bit stiff for my personal taste. Each bed had its own outlet and small book light. All in all, I would recommend this guest house to anyone who wants to travel to Kyoto. It is right off the subway station and had a convience store 2 mins away. The employees were friendly and very social.

Great experience for my first guesthouse! I had the twin room all to myself which was really nice after having been at a dorm-style hostel for a few days just before. The staff was always very nice and helpful with directions and local customs, most especially my lack of Japanese. I actually preferred speaking to them in English. I compare a guesthouse more to an Airbnb where your stay should be mindful of all the rules that kept and keeps the guesthouse clean and comfortable for you and all other guests present and future. It might seem like a lot in comparison to a hotel, but they're just common sense when you realize there's a reason it's called a guesthouse.

Friendliest staff, and super clean. I stayed in a private room and there was plenty of space for my medium suitcase and bag. By far the best hostel I've stayed in. In addition, the receptionists helped plan full day itineraries in Kyoto

Super helpful and informative people in Jiyujin. Whenever you leave the guesthouse, they will ask what we did yesterday and will provide helpful information on where are the must go places and how to go. Oh and they do speak english!||||They also sell a one day bus/train pass over their counter and their location is just 5min away from the subway and 7 eleven.||||I have a very good experience at their common room(kitchen area) because you get to talk to people from all around the world that come to Kyoto for holiday. Basically every night i would just buy food from outside and just sat down in the common area and socialize with the other guest.||||The room are very clean and tidy where me and my friend stay in the Japanese Style Room(the only sliding door in the guest house). I extremely love the smell of the tatami mat in the room which i believe the owner do change the mat frequently.
