JJ Poke Bowl & Taiwanese Bubble Tea

Fantastic little spot for me to order Poké bowls in the Oakland area. A nice little hidden gem. It’s hard to see from the street but once you get in there, you can tell it’s very authentic decent prices and great options. Very fast and helpful with questions even let me taste the sauce I wasn’t sure about.

This is such a reliable, excellent poke and bubble tea restaurant with fair prices for ingredient quality and fast, polite service. It took me a long time to find my poke restaurant in Pittsburgh, and I finally found it at JJ Poke Bowl. Try their regular bowls, build your own, try all their teas, you won't be disappointed.

This place definitely deserves all the super high ratings. It is awesome! Everything is so fresh, the portions are surprisingly great, and the prices are very fair as well! I tried build your own/BYO bowl with 1 scoop of raw ahi tuna, half brown rice, half zucchini noodles, sweet corn, wakame seaweed, nori, edamame, garlic crisps, and teriyaki sauce. Wow, that’s a lot haha. I also tried their boba. The bowl was sooo good. Very refreshing. This would be an especially awesome summer meal I think. The fish was incredibly fresh, although a tad stringy. The zucchini noodles were nice and crunchy. Rice was also very well made. All of the vegetables were incredibly fresh, and the encampment was too. The teriyaki sauce was quite sweet, and that’s how I like it. All in all an amazing meal. The boba was also very good. I had the mango milk tea flavor. It wasn’t too sweet and had a great flavor. They don’t include the boba pearls in the drink originally, so you have to add them if you want them. This place is just amazing overall. Very high quality ingredients, fresh food, healthy, great portions, great prices. 100% recommend.

Hands down the best poke place in town. I tried many other places such as sushi fuku and others, but this place is so much better! They have great fish and great selections of toppings for free. They also have a zucchini base option for those who do not want to eat a lot of carbs. This is the absolute best thing ever! U can enjoy poke without a ton of rice. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

This is my absolute favorite place in Oakland!! It's a very convenient walk from the Pitt Public Health building. My go-to is the Aloha Classic because I wouldn't change anything about it, but there is also a build-your-own-bowl sheet. The fish is incredibly fresh and the minced spicy tuna exceeds any other poke restaurant I've been to. The other vegetarian ingredients like avocado, onions, and seaweed salad are also incredibly fresh! Every order comes with Miso soup which is especially welcome during the colder weather. All in all, for the portion size and quality you're getting, $15 is a great deal. I also occasionally order the mango milk tea. It's very tasty and is still sweet even at 0% or 30% sweetness. The service is very fast and friendly. 5/5 highly recommend this place to any raw fish lovers!

Delicious poke bowl! I think it is very reasonably priced and they have a lot of variety when it comes to toppings. Everything seemed fresh and was very flavorful. Staff was friendly and I like that you circle your order on paper rather than telling them what you want when you do a "create your own bowl". They have a reward system (buy 9, get 10th free) so I'm sure to go back!

I respect other people’s opinions and all, but if you give JJ Poke any less than 5 stars, you are crazy!!!! This place kept me FED throughout my undergrad at Pitt. For just a little more than $10, one of their poke bowls fills me up with leftovers to spare - they don’t skimp you on portions! The food is prepared deliciously and with obvious care and attention to detail. Everyone who works here is incredibly kind and you can tell that they are all very hardworking people. Can’t run out of good things to say about this place. My favorite food spot in Pittsburgh!

I wish I could remember which bowl I got but hey the pros/cons of not doing reviews directly after. The food is SO fresh, was pleasantly surprised and is super filling. So many ingredients in the prepared ingredient bowls that are so good for gut health and I loved that. I like how welcoming into the Pitt campus community (my alma mater x2) the business is. I imagine the parking and the limited seating area to be barriers but they seem to do well with primarily takeout orders. Can't wait to try more options, loved it!

Ordered take out from doordash. Fish felt fresh, sauce was saucy, avocado was avocadoing. Solid takeout choice and satisfied my poke cravings. My girlfriend went back home to Arizona after a weekend here and I needed a pick me up and this did the job.

My favorite place when I need a pick me up. The service is always very fast and the food is phenomenal. I always create my own bowl and it tastes fresh every single time. Went on Thursday and had a wonderful interaction with the cashier! Love love love.

The food was awesome! I got a create your own poke bowl with salmon, tuna, zucchini noodles + rice, and some vegetables etc., it tasted great and I kept the leftovers for lunch!! Plus I also tried the seasonal Pumpkin Spice bubble tea, and it was so good!! And festive :) Me and my mom sat in the shop for a bit, and it was nice; well decorated, too. The food didn't take too long, and everyone was really nice! I can't wait to come back and use the punch card. (The second picture is one piece of the cake, which I had the next morning with some coffee :) )

This is best poké I have yet to have in PGH and is a small place a bit off the beaten path (at least for me). I was only in this area, because I had an appointment nearby, but would go back here anytime I'm nearby. I got the aloha bowl and it was a lot of food! It was fairly authentic to Hawaiian poké also. Tasty! Try it out! (Also, the boba tea was super good as well!)

Fantastic lunch spot. You can build your own bowl with all the options for grain, protein, veggies, and toppings. Portion was large and not too pricey. Service was quick and friendly. They even gave me a rewards card (buy 10 bowls get one free) so in case I needed any more incentive to come back, I now have it. My only tip would be to arrive after the noon lunch rush. I went around 1 and had no wait, but one day a few weeks ago I stuck my head in at 12 and it was packed.

Literally my favorite place ever. For how much food you're getting + the fact that it's fresh cooked everyday the price is so worth it. The punch cards also keeps me coming back bc i need my free bowl

Fresh, healthy and filling meal. You can see the food is all freshly prepped, and they run a fast and efficient take out operation.

This place is great! They have such a cozy, relaxed atmosphere, simple and quick menu and really fresh food. And their boba is great and reasonably priced. Our latest visit consisted of a simple spicy salmon poke bowl, the yasai bowl and baby octopus salad. As simple as the spicy salmon was I love that it wasn't overly sauced, the rice was fluffy and fresh and the garnish with green onions and masago was perfect. The Yasai bowl is their vegetarian option which was completely filled to the top with a colorful variety of fresh vegetables. It was incredibly filling and tasty. Now I understand quite a few people don't like the idea of octopus but definitely give this a try. Crunchy, sweet and salty, and light all from the first bite. A very underrated dish and I suggest people try it out! I order from here often and highly recommend pretty much anything on their menu!

Whenever I am craving Poke in Pittsburgh, this is my go to place. JJ poke is serving up some of the freshest poke around and there BYO bowls are my favorite. My order usually consists of three scoops of meat: 2 spicy salmon, and 1 spicy tuna. A mix of zucchini noodles and rice for the base, topped with pineapple, wasabi, nori, ginger, and a little curnch on top! This bowl is absolutely unreal, and always fills me up! I have also heard that some of their bubble teas and Thai Iced teas are also favorites amongs the locals! Poke makes for a perfect lunch on any day that is both healthy and delicious! Definitely check out JJ Poke if you're in the area

The tofu poke bowl was great. The only kinda issue I have is that my avocado isn't too fresh sometimes. It's not consistently bad avocado but I've definitely had an older scoop a few times. I also had the dragon fruit lemonade with mango boba. It was a bit too sour for me but my brother loved his. I would definitely eat here again (and have lol)

The food is consistently fresh and well prepared. Not overpriced & great miso soup! We have only ordered delivery but looking forward to being able to stop in and enjoy.

I ordered a poke bowl and a boba via Uber eats and I was impressed by their stable clean packaging and how fresh everything still was when I got it. My poke bowl was delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh - from the rice to the toppings to the fish. You get a good variety of toppings, even if the pre-chosen options. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount that came in the bowl. It lasted me almost 2 meals. Only thing I was disappointed in was that my fish/tuna wasn't cut well. My tuna pieces were not fully cut so multiple pieces were still connected together by a thin piece of tuna that I had to cut/chew off. I got the classic black tea boba and was happy with the flavor. I would definitely order again!

Awesome place to stop by during your lunch break! JJ's is fun because you circle what you want on a paper menu, and they make your bowl based on what you've marked down. It saves you from the stress you feel at Chipotle when you have to make split-second decisions! My boyfriend and I got a large build your own bowl with 3 proteins for $13. It was plenty of food for the both of us, great value! The ingredients are fresh and they definitely don't skimp on toppings like some poke places do. Highly recommend their specialty JJ sauce and to load up on the crispy toppings since there is no minimum on how many you can get.

My favorite place for fast, easy, fresh, and super customizable poke bowls! Nice list of ingredients and they are all super fresh Great prices and reasonable for a nice hearty bowl! I love this place, the price is unbeatable and the portions are generous. Everything tastes really fresh and is ready very quickly. Absolutely blows sushi fuku/atarashi out of the water. COME HERE IF YOU LIKE POKÉ!!!

First, this is a little take out place in Oakland. Not a place to go and eat a meal, although they have a few tables. It's family owned (big plus in my mind) and not a big chain. The ingredients are fresh and the size of my Poke bowl was more than adequate! I really like the build your own bowl where you just circle what you want. My bowl was ready in less than 5 min. For a quick meal, take out place, definitely 5 stars!

My favorite spot I have found since moving to Pittsburgh. The poke is so good and a fair price. I typically get my meal through Uber eats and my order has never been wrong. 10/10 would recommend. If I could give higher than 5 stars I would.

Amazing! Co-worker recommended this place during AAPI Heritage Month. I go into the office once a week, and this is my go to spot. Ahi Tuna, Spicy Tuna and Spicy Salmon are my favorite raw proteins. Everything is fresh, delicious and the service is fast. So far I have gotten a poke bowl the last 5 weeks. Can't wait to get another one!

If I could give JJ 10 stars I would. I had poké once before moving to PGH and thought it was pretty good, so I was excited to try it here and lord...I think I may have paid for this business's rent for the rest of 2023. LOL I am OBSESSED. The first month living here I probably got JJ 2-3x a week...every week. Here's why: First, I have only done delivery and it's always pretty fast. Longest wait was 45 min, fastest was 33! And I know all that time was drive time - they are FAST to make your food so it is super fresh. Second, I usually go for the BYOB and do the 2 scoop with all the delicious mix ins. I always do salmon and tuna, and it is always incredibly delicious. I also usually do some asado, they're different types of seaweed, and other fresh vegetables. When I say every single bowl I eat is amazing, I mean it. The ponzu sauce, the rice, the mixins - I'm just obsessed. The fish is always fresh and generous, they do not skimp!! I feel like I get a major bang for my buck here. Lastly, their boba is sooooo good. It's been a long time since I had thaiwanese or brown sugar milk boba that wasn't kinda meh. We are addicted. We can't NOT get boba every time we order now. I have no idea what the in restaurant atmosphere is like since we have only done delivery, but if I could eat this every day for lunch I would.

"You can't judge a book by its cover" certainly applies here. We ordered for pick-up (based on the good reviews), and as we drove up, it seemed like a place we would never stop in if we had just been walking past. While it doesn't look like much from the outside, the food certainly speaks for itself! We ordered two of the make-your-own poke bowls and were able to completely customize our orders with a wide variety of bases, proteins, veggies, toppings, and sauces. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious, and it was the perfect proportion of base to protein to sauces. The only downside was that they left out a couple of ingredients in our one bowl... it was still delicious, just not everything we had ordered. A good poke bowl is hard to find in this area, but this place is a diamond in the rough.

*Review from an experience in September 2019* A really cute family business! Support local business if you are in the area! Menu was simple to understand, and the ambiance was great. Price point was pretty decent for the quality and quantity. Pro tip: if you show your student ID, you get 10% off your order! Food was fresh, service was amazing. I would totally come here if I was a student in the area. Decent amount of seating inside, but recommend as more of a grab-and-go. PS: they also sell boba here, but I didn't try it. Maybe next time!

My experience here is always amazing, I love the food and the beverages so much. It was the first thing I got after I delivered my baby. I dreamed about their poké bowls and it was everything I wanted.

This was a great GrubHub delivered lunch! After looking at all the mouth watering photos on here, I gave it a try! I made a bowl with brown rice, raw ahi tuna, raw salmon, carrot, cucumber, wakame seaweed, pickled ginger, edamame, sesame seeds, and ponzu sauce on the side. Fresh ingredients and everything was bite size! I also ordered a coconut bubble tea that had no bubbles. I thought since I ordered a "bubble" tea, it was implied that there would be bubbles. That was disappointing. Now I know to add the tapioca pearls (they're the best part!) The coconut flavor was delicious, and I will definitely order it again. I also love how it was sealed for delivery. I don't know how they do it, but the bubble tea had a seal on top and was on top of my food in the takeout bag.

I was really excited to try this new poke place since it is the 1st one on Pitt's campus, besides Mount Everest that is both a sushi and poke restaurant. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The first thing my friend and I noticed was the strong fishy smell. I know it is hard to mask that smell, but I've been to other small sushi and poke places where you can't smell it. I custom ordered my poke bowl which usually turns out well, but the toppings and flavors were bland. Maybe, I should've picked a signature bowl but I didn't want to pay $13-15 for one. For one scoop of protein, it is $8.95 so the prices are reasonable! They also have Taiwanese bubble tea which seemed very popular to the current customers. The seating is quite limited too. The menu is simple and easy to follow which is great. I know this place is new so I don't want to be too hard on them! Not sure if I'll return soon.

My sister never tried a poke bowl before so I wanted her to experience it. I ordered her the salmon bowl and myself a pick your own bowl. It was super fresh, full of flavor and of good quality. My sister loved her bowl to where she ordered it again ! Also - the strawberry boba tea is so refreshing and a yummy treat. To anyone contemplating, do not. Every bite is worth the price paid. I will order from here over n over again. Yummmmmmy !!

consistently good poke with delicious fresh fish! i have gone here consistently over the past few years, and jj poke has always been good. probably the best poke-specific place in pittsburgh imo!! i usually get white rice with 2 scoops of salmon & 1 scoop of spicy tuna - very yummy!

Out of the two poke places that I've tried in the east end this one ranks better for flavor. They have a great vegetarian bowl although I'd prefer if they used a little more sauce on it. The only drawback I would say is the use of plastic which is why I removed a star. I wish more take out places used compostable bowls. Other than that slight gripe I'll definitely be back.

I'm from Cali and this is the best poké I've found in Pittsburgh. Period. They've got great boba as well.

Great food, great atmosphere, and great staff! We ordered two poke bowls and we could definitely tell the ingredients were high quality and, most importantly, the fish was very fresh. The only criticism I have is that I wish the sauces were more flavorful. In particular, I think dialing up the spice level in the sauces advertised as spicy would make this food absolutely perfect.

I love this place, it always tastes fresh and is super quick. I love being able to just fill out a paper of what I want and they are very quick & inexpensive for seafood. Not a great spot to eat-in but I usually grab lunch fast here. My favorite spot for poke in the city.

So the first time I had Poke was 2014 in LA. Second and best time was 2016 in Seattle. Ok cool background over. THIS PLACE IS LEGIT for Poke outside of a bay city. I've been twice for takeout during the Pandemic and they're great. It's super fresh and honestly a lot better than some of the more overrated Poke places that just get by on cool aesthetics. You get more food than other places and they have great options. Going to be a staple doing forward. Also they have MANGO BOBA!

I got a Poke Bowl with spicy salmon and ahi tuna. I added a few other things in it but the seaweed salad is a must! So delicious. Everything was so fresh and very flavorful. Best poke in Pittsburgh!

Best boba I've ever had and the poke is a perfect takeout lunch. I called ahead and my bowl was ready for carry out in ten minutes, which is perfect for grabbing fast between my office and bus stop. Be sure to check their website for an updated menu when you're building your bowl, the ingredients seem to change relatively often and Yelp pictures will have a hard time keeping up.

Tried their brown sugar boba milk, and it was filled with boba! I guess they were being generous, but towards the end it was more chewing than drinking. I like the brown sugar in milk tea, it gives it a different flare. I ordered on grubhub for pickup along with a poke bowl. It was pretty quick and convenient. The poke bowl was ok. I probably won't try another poke bowl.

Always on point. I've only ordered via delivery but they've never forgotten an add-on and the soup is always still piping hot when it arrives. The raw fish is never chewy or "old" and thus I feel confident in ordering poke bowls from here. Also the serving sizes are great.

Was sad to hear that popeyes was going away but that was made up by the fact that there was Poke being added. Tasty, probably best around the area. They give a generous portions. The interior is really nice. There's a good amount of seating and it's super clean. The restaurant is close to campus. Make sure to show your student discount to get 10% off.

Wow! I was away for 1 week and suddenly a new poke store in town? No way!! When Jason told me about this place I was soooo happy. We went to this poke shop today. This shop is clean and organized. When we got there, there was a short line, but it move quickly. Their menu is really clear, not the confusing type. You can ask them to take out the ingredient that you don't like (I don't like green onion), they also have this "creat your own" selection. The staff / owner is really nice and welcoming. For the price and portion I can say, this is the best poke I've try so far in town. Their tuna and salmon is really fresh, and the sides are yummy. The portion is not too big nor too small. Reasonable price. This place might be my everyday to go spot for lunch and dinner from now on. Keep up the good work!! Btw, I think they sell bubble tea too. I didn't order bubble tea today because i grab one of the can sparking water (bubly) from the counter, good price too. I am full and I am really satisfied. I'm going to gym now. Maybe I will stop by later today to try their bubble tea.

Finally so excited to find a local place near Pitt that serves make your own poke! This place gives amazing portion size and a huge variety of toppings and add-ins for the bowl. If you haven't had poke before its like deconstructed sushi or Hawaiian chipotle in a way with corn, salsa, masago, crab salad, seaweed salad and more. The ingredients are very fresh. I recommend the ponzu or the spicy mayo they are my favorite!! In addition, they serve bubble tea as well so its a one stop shop. I have not tried it yet so I will update on the quality. Lastly if youre a student they offer a 10% discount! Worth! Highly recommend!!

*MEDIOCRE* *3.5/4* I was excited to try this place out since it is a build your own poke bowl. You can choose from a variety of protein options (raw and cooked), mix ins, sauces, and toppings; more or less all the options you would normally get at any build your own poke place. They also serve bentos with cooked fish. Their raw fish is decent (I've only tried salmon and tuna), but their cooked fish, salmon and eel, are tasty. Their bubble teas are pretty good too, and they have pudding!!!!!! For the price and the portion you get, it's not bad. Definitely within college budget and quality within average college restaurant quality. *VERDICT* I would go back again if I'm craving their bentos or really in the mood for poke.

I love JJPOKÉ!!! It's always super fresh, super quick, and super good! I would eat here everyday if I could. I don't eat seafood so I get the chicken and it's still flavorful.

My work colleagues and I ordered from JJPoke for delivery at our work. The menu is not very long, but you can personalize your poke bowl, so it's really endless. The amount, quality, and variety of food you get is really good for the money, although the cucumber was anemic. I liked the spicy tuna, and I thought the seaweed salad was standard for American restaurants. My colleagues appreciated the avocado, miso soup, and boba tea. We didn't have to wait very long, and we would definitely order from here again.
