"Fantastic Fabrics Jalan Sulawesi, right in the heart of Denpasar in what used to be the Chinese district is the place to go for fabric. Whether you’re looking for a beautiful piece of traditional batik or something a bit more funky, the selection on this street is so vast be prepared to trek up and down it a few times. Try to arrive in the morning because once the sun really starts to heat up the tiny, cramped shops and warm the spoiled food hanging around in the gutters from Badung Market next door you’ll be dying to get off the street."

Very nice place to go for a wander if you are into textiles. Prices are very low. It can be a bit overwhelming if you don’t have a good idea of what you want. Only one shop with a reasonable range of quilting fabric- and then not extensive, but at $4 a metre 🤷 Right beside the central market so you can check it out too.

We just did a self guided audio tour which we downloaded with the App Voicemap - in this area which took us through the flower markets into the fabric markets and then the spice markets and along jl Gada Maja. Jalan Sulawesi is so interesting has fabulous ranges of fabrics and the tour gives backgrounds of the shop owners which you would never know about. Amazing stories and history of this area. It's worth going there and a totally different side of Bali.

It's a great feeling to walk around and look at the exotic road. If you've come all the way to Bali, you might as well take in this atmosphere, right? Yes, that's alright! Are you worried about getting into trouble with the store staff? No,no,tourists don't buy fabric anyway. It's alright!
