JO&JOE Paris Gentilly

I stayed at JO&JOE Paris Gentilly for two nights and had a great experience overall. The location is very convenient, with easy access to the city, which made getting around Paris effortless. I booked a capsule room and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was, even bigger than a similar one I stayed in London. I really appreciated having a key card for access to the capsule area and an additional lock on the door itself. It felt secure and was much easier to manage than bringing my own lock. The bathroom was just across the hall, which was very practical, and I loved the overall design of the hostel. The dark hallways, disco lighting, and art installations gave the place a cool, creative atmosphere. The only downside was the shower area. Since there’s no window, visible mold can develop if cleaning isn’t frequent enough. I would recommend checking and cleaning the showers at least every other day to avoid this. Aside from that, everything was great. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and while I didn’t get a chance to spend much time at the bar, there was a DJ and a lively crowd when I arrived, which felt like a perfect setup for meeting people when traveling solo. Overall, a stylish, social, and well-located place to stay, with just a small improvement needed in the shower maintenance.

The hostel’s structure is amazing and very different from other hostels I have visited elsewhere. The space is definitely one of the strongest points of the experience. In my opinion, one area that could be improved is customer service. Overall, I felt that the staff were not as helpful or attentive as expected, sometimes coming across as a bit robotic and less friendly. I also think it could be interesting to consider offering more food options for sale within the hostel, although I understand that this is a management decision and depends on whether it is useful or feasible. I am sharing this just as constructive feedback, with the hope that it can help make the experience even better in the future.

I stayed at Jo&Joe Gentilly for a week for a work + leisure trip and was very impressed overall. I booked on HostelWorld and my trip started out a bit difficult as it was unclear to me from photos there how small the capsule rooms are. They’re essentially a series of small wooden pods lined up side by side with a few grouped together in a larger room and then you get access across the hall to a shared bathroom space. This would have been fine for me for a short trip if I was traveling with only a small carry-on luggage, but there is no room for anything larger than this in the pods and I had been traveling for weeks at that point and had larger luggage and needed space. I spent the first night in this set-up and agree with the feedback from others that the walls are very thin so you do hear everything and it can be hard to sleep, and that the shared bathrooms can get a bit moldy from all the use and need more cleaning. I ended up asking if there was a private room with private bathroom in the hopes of finding something more comfortable, but didn’t have a lot of hope for this as I didn’t see this option available at all on HostelWorld, but they let me know there was and I paid to upgrade to this! Photos attached. The private room was great, definitely one of the nicer private hostel rooms I’ve had, and it has a toilet and shower in two small rooms attached to it. Besides this all was great- friendly staff, easy access to the city on the RER B down the street, great food and drink in the lobby if you need something and don’t want to go out at that moment. Would likely stay again now that I understand the pod versus room situation!

We were there with two families of 4 people. The family rooms were fine, and we were satisfied. Breakfast was good. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was good. We were disappointed that we booked the cozy bar to enjoy cocktails and games together in the evenings. Upon arrival, we discovered it closed at 8 a.m. on the days we were there. We weren't aware of this when we booked, which was a disappointment for us. If this hadn't been the case, we would definitely have given a higher rating.

This hostel was FANTASTIC!! We booked a private room and it was massive with an amazing bathroom. The design of the place is like an arcade and it's pretty cool. There are 3 elevators which makes for quick transport up or down. In the lobby there's a bar with a wide selection of food and drinks. The staff were all lovely and helped us out with anything we needed or wanted.

I recently stayed at this hostel and had a great experience. I was warmly welcomed by two ladies at the reception who spoke excellent English and explained everything clearly. I had already paid for my stay through Booking.com, and I paid the city tax of €3 per day upon arrival. The hostel is extremely clean, secure, and very pleasant. You receive a card to access the elevator, which adds an extra level of security. The rooms and beds are very comfortable, and everything felt well-maintained. Overall, I highly recommend this hostel for anyone visiting Paris. It offers great service, cleanliness, and comfort at a very good value.

I stayed here with my family (2 adults, 3 kids in 5pers-room) for 4 nights Jan 21-25. The first night we were in room 414, but after a night of barely getting any sleep due to heat, lack of air and the room smelling terrible, we realized the AC and ventilation wasn’t working which made the room unbearable to be in. We brought it up with the guy in the reception the following afternoon and he was very nice and helpful and got us a new room. Other than that the room was fine, the cleaning wasn’t great but it could have been worse. The windows in this room also don’t open which of course made the ventilation issue even worse. Night 2-4 we stayed in room 506 where the AC worked well and the air quality was MUCH better. Here the cleaning was also poorly done. After having read the reviews after the first night, we checked this room for bed bugs (didn’t see any!) and found lots of dirt and trash under the mattresses, under one some type of food. By some of the beds there was also trash (peanuts and chips) on the bedsides next to the mattresses. The drain in the shower was also clogged so the water barely ran down, we weren’t able to take a full shower during our stay. The rest of the room is fine, it doesn’t feel clean but it doesn’t feel super dirty either. In this room the windows can be opened. The breakfast was fine, pretty basic breakfast buffet. Only minus was that there were no gluten free options the day we were there and most of the breakfast was bread-based. We ended up buying breakfast out the rest of the trip. The level of service varied, some employees are super nice and helpful, others very nonchalant and hardly acknowledge someone is in front of them. The location is good if you want to save some money by not staying in the center. The RAR station is only 3min walk away, very easy to get to and from the city center! We didn’t spend much time in the common areas so can’t say much about them, but our youngest absolutely loved the foosball table!

Stayed at this hostel with 6 friends in November as we were all going to attend a rugby game at the stade de France. The location was great for us, as we drove in from the South of Paris, very easy to access. There is loads of parking spaces in the streets nearby the hotel so I would not even bother looking into booking the (rather expensive) underground car park, and the street parking rates are much cheaper especially on week ends. The location is also great for catching the train (RER B) that goes straight through the hearth of Paris and then direct to the Stadium.|Check in was easy. We had to wait for our room to be ready but that was no bother. The foyer downstairs is nice and the staff quite friendly. Only downside is that we found the drinks downstairs to be quite expensive, comparable rates to bars in town when here this is just a quick drink in a platic cup. The room was nice (we were given a room for 12 as there was no room for 8 available). Bathroom was also convenient. Overall a great stay and I would absolutely do it again in similar occasions.
