JO&JOE Paris Gentilly

A few days ago, my friends and I stayed in one of the private rooms. It started when we were interested in buying beer, and one of the staff members (there may have been a language barrier) didn’t tell us about the discount available for guests staying at Jo&Joe — something that should definitely be communicated to the bar staff in the evening hours. I’d also like to mention that while it’s clear this is a hostel for travelers/young people, that’s no excuse for neglecting cleanliness. When we entered the room, it was full of hair, and the filth under the mattresses was definitely not up to the standard of the place. When you enter the hostel, it looks clean — but the rooms are a different story. I personally lifted up the mattress and started cleaning with a wet wipe, which doesn’t make any sense. On Friday, after a short time away from the room, a cleaner came in — but didn’t actually clean anything. The hairs I had cleaned myself from the floor (under the stairs) were there again, full of hair (and I can guarantee they weren’t mine or my friends'). Most of the reviews here mention cleanliness — and for good reason. It’s something that really needs attention. On a positive note: the staff was amazing! Very helpful, and for every request/question, they were quick to help or offer advice. A great team — I’d give them a 10

We had a blast here. The rooms are spacious and very clean. We loved the 1.5 baths in our shared room. The bar area is so fun and their outdoor space to hangout and drink is great! It’s close enough to the city for easy access but also feels a lot more calm.

One of My Favorite Dormitories in the World! I absolutely love this place! It’s truly one of my favorite dormitories I’ve ever stayed in. The entire space is clean, neat, and has a really pleasant ambience. The room was tidy and comfortable, and what made the experience even better was the staff—they speak English and were incredibly helpful throughout my stay. Their friendliness made me feel so welcome. I’ll definitely be coming back here again. Highly recommended!

I liked the aesthetic of the hostel. The common area downstairs had a fun set up. The food was great! I enjoyed the balcony in my open room however, that was about it. The showers were consistently dirty & one didn’t drain at all. One toilet stall only had tissue once the entire time of my stay. The worst part was the door going in and out of the bathroom. The door would slam shut unless you manually closed it quiet. Well apparently no one in my room thought about others because that door was slamming shut all through the middle of the night as people went in and out. It is the least amount of sleep I’ve ever gotten at a hostel.

Enjoyed a decent stay in a pod room. Doors are very loud and bang when people open/close them, although guests could be more considerate in their level of noise. Facilities are kept quite clean. Not a fully equipped kitchen - only microwave and cutlery with no cooking options available. There is very little floor space in the pod rooms (about 1-2 sqm standing space) and other guests also commented on this saying there was nowhere to open a bag or suitcase. Be aware they are very inflexible with check-in times.

Amazing experience staying here. The price for an individual room during peak tourist season was unmatched. Bathrooms were clean, rooms were small but cozy and safe as you were able to lock the doors and the slide window for the room and there was a locked door to enter the larger room. Staff at reception was kind enough to put me and the two others traveling with in a room together on the spot. Would recommend to anyone traveling to Paris!!! also no need to purchase locks if you have a private room as no one can enter your room.

I stayed in one of the private cabins, which I found to be comfortable, clean and exceptional value. There are 4 cabins, which have private locks and are secure in each room, and given they are made with wood, sound travels through these easily. There were a few times where you could hear other people in the 3 other cabins coming in at 1/2am or leaving at 6/7am, which was a little disturbing. ||The mattresses are big (you could easily fit two people on it), but are only provided a single duvet, and the bed sheet is not put on prior to your arrival. ||The showers/toilets/sinks are shared and are separate to the cabin rooms, but are a short walk down the hall. I showered twice, the first time was great, there was shower gel in the shower, but the second shower I had didn't have a dispenser, and I was already in the shower wet, so I ended up washing myself with face wash only, which was frustrating. ||The checkin process was simple and easy, and so was the checkout process. The staff were friendly and the hostel felt safe and secure. It is a very short walk from Gentilly Metro station, which has super easy access into the city.||I stayed twice in March 2025, I only had breakfast on the first visit. It was basic, and the quality was ok. For the price, I would recommend going somewhere local or in the city for better value/quality, but it is convenient, and I guess if you are on a budget, it is an "unlimited" buffet, albeit what is on offer is limited. ||A pleasant stay and the rooms really are great value! I would stay again!

Really great hostel! Great social atmosphere if you want, but plenty of spaces to find seclusion. The private capsules are very cozy and priced very well for Paris. The staff went above and beyond. Definitely one of the better hostels I have ever stayed at.
