This one and only youth hostel occupies a whole hilltop with spectacular views of Hongkong harbour and is especially well placed for seeing sunsets and sunrises. Well run and funded by the HK Jockey Club it has become a popular destination for young tourists visiting Hongkong. The large two part shared kitchen allows for preparation work before a barbecue which is de riguer for locals seeking time out. Great place!

I recently stayed at YHA Jockey Club Mt. Davis Youth Hostel, and it was an experience worth sharing! If you're looking for a peaceful retreat away from the city's hustle while still being within reach of all the action, this is the place to be. What I Loved: ✅ Breathtaking Views: The hostel is perched on Mt. Davis, offering panoramic views of Victoria Harbour, especially at sunrise and sunset—absolutely stunning! ✅ Affordable & Great Value: Compared to most accommodations in Hong Kong, this hostel offers great value for money, making it a budget-friendly option for travellers. ✅ Tranquil Atmosphere: Unlike hotels in the city centre, this place is surrounded by nature, perfect for those who want a relaxing stay. ✅ Friendly Staff: The hostel staff were welcoming and helpful, providing useful tips on getting around. ✅ Outdoor Common Area: There’s a nice outdoor area where you can sit back, enjoy the fresh air, and take in the views. A Few Things to Note: 🔹 Location & Transport: Since the hostel is located on a hill, getting there requires taking a shuttle bus (provided by the hostel) or a taxi. If you prefer a more adventurous route, a scenic hike up Mt. Davis is an option, of course please do it during the day time. 🔹 Basic Amenities: This is a youth hostel, so don’t expect luxury. The rooms are simple but clean, with basic beds and shared facilities. Bring your own toiletries for added comfort. 🔹 Limited Dining Options: There isn’t a restaurant on-site, so it’s best to bring your own food or plan to eat before heading up. The common kitchen is available for light meal prep. 🔹 WIFI coverage & Speed, the signal in room is very pool, I started a 10 mins YouTube video at night and cannot reach to the end after sun rise. Overall Experience: If you're an adventurer, a backpacker, or someone looking for a quiet escape with fantastic views, I highly recommend this hostel. It may not be for those seeking high-end comforts, but for nature lovers and budget-conscious travellers, it’s a hidden gem on Hong Kong Island! 🌿🏙️ Would I stay here again? Yes! Just be prepared for the location challenge, but once you get there, the views are totally worth it.

An amazing place to stay. Only thing to consider is that it takes a little bit of time to get into the center. If you just walk down the hill 15 minutes and grab the 5b you'll get there in maybe half an hour or so. But other than that, it's a well worth stay. The views are amazing, especially for the sunsetting. The staff are very nice and exceptionally accommodating. You do have to bring your own food but the kitchen facilities are brilliant, I felt like a chef again. I recommend if you're staying for a few days in Hong Kong stay here for the rest of the trip after staying in the center.

Excellent spot for holiday seekers . Although isolated on top of a peak with no facilities nearby and only accessible by shuttle bus or taxi, this youth hostel nevertheless offers guests and visitors serenity, seaview and the freedom to explore hill paths or sit down to roast barbecue. The place is almost never fully booked and is the cheapest accommodation on HongKong Island by far: Highly recommended for those looking to chill out for a few days from the hustle bustle of city life.

Yelp
This youth hostel is quite run down but clean. Most of the stuff is very friendly. While I was at the reception I had some skypecalls cause I could use the free wifi. I went out to have a cigarette. The a man passes by and screams so hard on me, that I couldn't understand him. I was overwhelmed and put the cigarette on the flor and my hands in the air. At the end I figured out that there was a little non smoking sign behind me, that I didn't see and that I should have went 10 m to the smoking area. My fault! They charge you extra for every little thing. So I could have stayed in a regular hotel much more comfortable. It is complicated to get there. There is a bus somewhere downtown. I never found it. But I saw a shuttle bus going to town. I think it is every hour except from 11:00 to 15:00. If u call a taxi they charge you 40HKD extra. I had a whole four person sleeping room for myself. But I got a cold cause the heater doesn't work. I have a cold now. The good thing is that there is a big kitchen you can use. The bad thing on it is that you have to go downtown to buy food. So I asked something for breakfast. They only have Cereals with bread and eggs. They don't had bread anymore , so I got 1 egg extra. The instant coffee was bitter and disgusting but the advantage of it is, that I am awake now. They charge 10HKD more for a extra cup of milk.
