Had a friend that was in town staying at the Galt House and suggested we meet up at this bar. I had never been before and love trying new places so I was game. We met there on a late Sunday night, just coming off Covid as things were finally starting to stay open later. All kinds of clientele were popping in and out from the hotel... people dressed up, dates, families with young kids, single people just grabbing a drink at the bar, people looking like they came straight from the pool, etc. I think one of the hotel restaurants were closed and not another open bar for people, so they came to Silks. Not sure if that's how it always is, or just because there weren't any other options at the time. The look of the place reminds me more of a lounge or speakeasy type of establishment with couches, tables, booths, dim mood lighting... one where I wouldn't want to see kids in when visiting.
In a place like this, I like to see their cocktail menu and order from it. There were a decent amount of specialty cocktails to choose from and I went with the Honey Berry Smash which consisted of Blueberry, Cranberry, Honey, Ginger Beer, and Mint. Very tasty! I had 2. My friend just had vodka and soda, nothing special. We wanted a bite to eat so we ordered the tuna poke. The taste of the poke was good but we wished the "fried wontons" that it came with was more of a chip to scoop the tuna on for small bites; however, it was more like wonton strips served on top of it. The added crunch from it was nice to have though.
Service was spotty. When we first arrived, someone stopped by our couch to serve us. Got our first drinks quickly... and then no one ever again. We finally flagged someone down to order the poke and waited and waited and waited. People all around us were getting pizzas and their food and we still hadn't gotten our dish, one that didn't even need to be cooked. My friend walked to the bar to inquire about it and learned that it had never been submitted to the kitchen. After that was taken care of, we got it pretty quickly. We also went straight to the bar to order our 2nd round of drinks as a server still never came back by our couch/table. I don't know if one or two people had clocked out for the night or what the problem was, as the restaurant didn't seem to get any busier than when we first arrived.
The service and the kids in a late night lounge is the reasoning why Silks is not a 5 star for me.
