Joe Molese 117 - Burgers'n'Sandwiches

It’s definitely a cool spot. the onion rings? Easily some of the best we’ve ever had. Super crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of seasoning. Honestly, we’ve gone there just for those onion rings more than once. They’re that good. The kitchen really knows what they’re doing. The food is tasty, the portions are generous, and the prices are super fair. So in terms of what you get on your plate, it’s pretty much perfect. Now… the service? Not so much. The servers aren’t very attentive, and getting their attention can be frustrating. Whether it’s ordering, getting your drinks, or asking for the check, you kind of have to wave them down or wait way too long. And it’s not just a one-time thing, we’ve been there a few times now, and the experience has been the same with different staff. It’s such a shame because the location is great and the food is top-notch. If the service matched the quality of the kitchen, this place would be unbeatable. Fingers crossed they improve on that someday :)

We ate lunch with family. The service was great, fast, accurate and the waiter was very kind. The price was a bit steep but if you can afford it the price/quality is one of the best I've ever had. The food was delicious. They work with great flavors. We ate hamburgers with fries and it was enough for all of us. The place has such a good vibe. Great music, and very good aestetics. Overall a great place to eat if you have the budget to eat quality food.

The food was really good and well-portioned. The taste was great—definitely more on the comfort food side, perfect for a cheat day. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was nice for the most part, though it felt a little too quiet.

The prices are high for what you get. The waiter explained to us that the "housemade lemo" was handmade with Lemons and Mint. The taste was actually pretty bad, nothing like lemons or mint. We saw the other waiter filling a tank with syrup 5 mins. later and the Coke glasses where filled with 1,5L bottles. Very unprofessional. Furthermore the music was uncomfortably loud. We asked, if they could turn it lower, he said "of course". Never did it though. The portions are pretty big.

Great place, great food and great experience. The design for this experience is well thought out. Highly recommended 🍔🧃🤤

Really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and the pomegranate ice tea. The server was really helpful and spoke English too.

Great service, not so crowdy on a monday for lunch. Burgers where great, big and enough.

Tasty burgers but they were served cold. On the other hand, the fries were hot, crispy and well seasoned! The cheeseburger was a little underseasoned, definitly needed more salt. But this place has a lot of potential!

We were staying across the street and thought we would give them a try the burgers were delicious. Staff was friendly. Music was bit loud.

I chose to get a pretty simple cheese burger so the picture may be deceiving. The others I was dining with got different sandwiches with various items added. The burger was very good. The atmosphere here is nice and modern. The do speak English if you need that. Very good place to eat if you find yourself in Heidelberg. My recommendation: when in doubt, check it out!

When you're in Heidelberg and feel like eating a burger (or even if you don't) do yourself a favour and go here! This place is absolutely amazing. Located in a super touristy spot this gem is run by real Heidelbergers who are super witty, funny and helpful with food choices. We had their homemade lemonade which was just the right amount of sweet and refreshing and gorgeous burgers with chips. ALL burgers are available as a veggo option featuring not your run-off-the-mill veggie patty but a portobello mushroom Desserts are also top notch and super rich. I think you get the idea: I love this place and will bring all my friends here when they come to Heidelberg.

Perhaps the food is good, but the service is nonexistent. It took over an hour to get our simple order and they wouldn't even tell us how much longer we would have to wait in the process. In addition just getting the menu was an arduous journey. I feel like the problem is the poorly organized flow from the servers and the kitchen, they need to restructure to handle customers better. Also it wouldn't hurt if they were a little bit nicer to the customers.

Really tasty burger! I ordered the one with balsamic vinegar and it waa a real jackpot! Their onion rings were also great, its a burger that i definitely crave.

Great burger and sandwich shop right in the middle of Marktplatz, a historic square in Heidelberg. Definitely recommend the Big Joe burger if you're looking for a lot to eat, as it comes with a good amount of fries on the side. Great environment for tourists who are visiting Heidelberg. There's lots to do and see around the area including the Heidelberg Castle only 10 minutes away.

Nice place for good, juicy burgers. The quantity is good for the given price. Had a very hearty dinner. Must eat burgers in Heidelberg. The atmosphere what I think is not suitable for families, but great for hanging out...

This place was a horrible dinning experience. The staff here is horrendous and it was a two hour endeavor just to get food. When the food did arrive it was cold and did not live up to the hype. The waitress was the rudest person I have ever met. She made us switch tables when we sat and we waited forever just to even get a menu while the staff just chatted amongst themselves. I will not be returning and would not recommend the sub par food to anyone. Stay away!

Amazing food especially since I'm American and barely understand anything on German menus. The place was cool I like the environment. They had an English side of the menu which was much needed. The waitor spoke English and was very nice. Food took a while to come out but it was worth the wait.

Good location and vibe here. Delicious sandwiches/burgers and large pizzas. Do expect to pay a bit more than the rest of town because it's right next to the alte brücke AKA tourist central, but it's nothing exorbitant. A recommended visit in Heidelberg.

Very friendly place for pizza and burgers using very high quality ingredients. An interesting selection of wine, beer and sodas. We had a margherita pizza (I would like with more whole tomato slices) and an aubergine/cherry tomato pizza (exellent!).

Definitely the best burger in town. Maybe even in the country. It may take a little while for them to get your order but it's worth the wait. In the warmer months you can get a table outside if you're lucky and have yourself a pretty little view of the alley that lead to the Old Bridge

The best burger in Heidelberg, for sure. The onion rings are also delicious, and there is a crazy selection of speciality sodas and such. The let down that we have had the last two visits is really poor service.

The burgers have a really good taste. However, more of a diner feel rather than a restaurant. Service was not great.

I live in Heidelberg and frequently crave burgers. There really aren't many choices in Heidelberg, but what are you going to do? I can't get a good Mexican meal here either. The burgers at this particular place are just average and the fries aren't great --kind of hard and cold. The service is usually friendly---the young women who have waited on me have always been sweet. Today, I was sick, but craved a burger, so I dragged myself off the couch and made the 15 minute walk to Joe Molese. I had my sunglasses on and was very slow and quiet--sort of like usual, but more so because of my bad cold and sore eye. The man who greeted me was friendly and helped me to my seat. I noticed there was schmutz on the table, so I asked for it to be cleaned. Apparently, this set him off and he accused me of being a rude American. I can only assume he didn't like me 'ordering' him around? Who knows. For a while, things got pretty bad. I talked him off the ledge, because I was too sick to leave. I just needed to eat. He slowly realized he was getting over-heated and treated me ok for the remainder of my meal. I tipped the nice young woman who gave me my check and left. Will I ever go back? No. The burgers aren't worth the grief. The man was over-the-top nasty for a good deal of the time and I don't ever want to lay eyes on him again. Was I partially to blame for not being super smiley and talkative? I don't think so. He claimed I didn't respond to his greeting. Of course I did, but maybe in my barely audible sick voice. Also, the restaurant is noisy. If I had to make a long story short, I'd say this place is okay if you aren't looking for the real deal and that the guy (owner?) was probably having a bad day. One thing you should take into consideration is that customer service in Germany isn't what it is in other countries. I've lived in the U.S., France, and Mexico, and being cordial is a brand--not a mood. Places of business are selling an experience, not just meals.

Wasn't a fan of this place, one of the workers was incredibly rude and seemed like she just disliked Americans. It would have been fine but she gave us the snobbiest attitude then proceeded to gossip to her co-workers about us. As for the food, mine came out cold and the burger was good but the fries tasted over cooked. Meal preparation took roughly 50-55 minutes even though the restaurant was not packed - we are also talking about a burger and fries here. The only good thing about this place was the beer. There are much better burger places in Heidelberg than Joes where the food AND service is good.

This was my second time visiting. The first time I was with a basque-Brazilian and an African American. I'm from California but not white. We all came for dinner. They were busy but the service was decent and the burgers even better. So I came back a second time a few weeks later, but by myself for a late lunch. They were still busy but not as much as that first dinner. When the server took a while, I was understanding. I pulled out my book and read. Waited about 5 minutes. They came to me when another customer, German-speaking, sat next to my table, but they offered him the menu first before me. Then another party of four came in with a dog on a leash; they sat by the window. Staff comes out immediately with a bowl of water for the dog. Serving-staff can be culturally insensitive, verging on racist. Burgers are great, but don't know if I'll ever return. Definitely never solo. Would probably pick Mandy's first.
