Google
Great place to start your Sunday morning. I had avacado egg on rye bread and pistachio bun with lungo. Cozy place and you either sit inside or outside.

Google
Had a lot of expectations but got disappointed. The flat white was average as same as the yoghurt but liked the croissant. My friend liked his quiche. The service was in holiday mood and so everything needed a lot of time. The location was nice and I guess in summer the atmosphere will be wonderful.

Google
Nice cozy café with acceptable prices. Coffee and matcha was well prepared. Waiter made mistake but was ready to make me what I ordered.

Google
Charming little café with a lovely atmosphere. A bit on the pricey side, but it offers a beautiful view of the water.

Google
An amazing place to have a specialty coffee with a variety of bakery products. The place is very cozy and you can enjoy it both inside and outside.

Google
The insides of this cafe feel like a cave. The place is large with a tall ceiling, deep and dim. There is seating on 2 floors. The atmosphere is relaxed with music playing. While it still feels cosy, the cafe has become worn over the last few years. The drip / filter coffee here are lighter in taste and of the more sourish variety. There is a large variety of pastries, cakes and sandwiches to choose from. There is also a small shopping corner stocked with prepacked coffee beans, tea bags, coffee / tea filters and accessories.

Google
We had a few hours to explore Helsinki and came upon this cafe. Didn't know it was this good - we walked around aimlessly along the waterfront for a hour or two in the morning and were in need of food, hot drinks and a break. The interior design was nice - it made you feel like spending more time in the space. We had hot latte and pastries, filled up our water bottle with hot water and got on with random walk again. Thanks!

Google
They are really kind and you can taste speciality coffee as well.

Yelp
Quaint coffee shop by the water in Helsinki . Kinda rustic inside with great seating options inside and outside. They have a really nice WFH space for the laptop people. They have a lot of retail coffees and gadgets and they also serve beer and wine . I went with a nice strong cappuccino here . I was hoping to get a pastry here and while they had a few there wasn't anything that made me want to try it. They had a couple of savory breakfast options. Service was good and I got my hot cappuccino pretty quick. I sat outside with a nice view of the boats and water. Good people watching spot. Nice cozy place. Was a little disappointed with the food selection though.

Yelp
Quiet stop with generally indifferent staff but really great overnight oats and chia. Stay and do some work or sit outside and enjoy the water.

Yelp
Came in on two occasions because it's next door to my hotel room and I love tea. The tea is fine but both times that I came the staff has been rude. First time was a blonde, she was very cold and was fairly deliberately unhelpful when I asked questions. When I came back the second time, I looked in first to make sure it was not her - to my pleasant surprise it wasn't, so I tried again but got a brunette this time who ended up being even worse! No courtesy, wouldn't make eye contact when talking to me, rolled her eyes when I asked for anything, and was giving side glances and scowling over at my table. The thing is, they acted normal and nice towards all of the others patrons - so my first instinct is to assume maybe they are unfriendly towards Americans? I don't know but i've been in Finland for a week and haven't been treated like this anywhere else. So only come here if you're a glutton for punishment.

Yelp
COOL LOCATION, ENTICING DECOR & AWESOME DRINKS! Finland definitely has it cafe scene sorted out. WE found this place when we were walking near the market place. The location of the cafe is perfect with a view of beautiful waterfront. The cafe is decorated in unique mixed match furniture and you can even sit outside with the cozy blankets if you fancy that. The whole cafe has exposed bricks and warehouse kind of feel with cozy lighting and mismatched cozy seating areas. The coolest part is you can share the space or table with stranger and still have fun experience. The waitress were pretty friendly and let us change the drinks even after paying. WE ordered a mocha and a latte coupled with Almond croissant. The drinks were pretty awesome especially the mocha. It was the best Mocha I ever had. They cannot warm the food so I was little disappointed but the croissant tasted pretty good even without it! Overall a PERFECT Cafe which should be on your list when visiting Helsinki!

Yelp
If you want to spend 5 Euros for 4 sips, this is your kinda place. I spent 5 EUROS on a drink called "Grape Tonic Cold Brew." I was expecting it to come in a normal size glass, of course. It was served in a baby cocktail glass with ice. That was approximately four sips for 5 euros. That is unacceptable. The picture attached explains it. This is a very greedy tactic and made it hard for me to enjoy the drink. It leaves me not wanting to return.

Yelp
I'm so in love with this little coffee shop. Everything about it is perfect. Location is great (next to the market square), decoration is gorgeous and coffee is amazing! So good! We were staying next to that area and we were looking for a good coffee shop for breakfast. Thanks to yelp, as always, that recommended this place. We gave it a try and we were so happy to have found it. We had breakfast there almost every single day we stayed in Helsinki. Staff was nice and polite and I just loved their coffee and their menu. Just good coffee and a couple of breakfast options. They have two floors with vintage furniture. I love the top floor, so nice there! It has to be even better on winter time, a good cup of coffee, so cozy there. They were some people reading and doing some work there. It was really quiet. Everyone so polite. Love that about Finnish people. You can relax everywhere. And this place was perfect. I think you are allowed to bring your dog as well. As I said. Give it a try! It is so worth it!

Yelp
Johan & Nyström is a lovely little cafe with a relaxed ambiance. The decor is fun and inviting- the perfect place for a quiet coffee date or to sit and enjoy a book by yourself. The seasonal cake I had was delicious- lightly sweet with a delicious berry flavor and beautifully presented. The cappuccino was perfect. You can tell they are using quality beans and milk and know how to use their machinery. I will be coming here again!

Yelp
We were really excited to try some coffee in Helsinki and were really, really excited when we found Johan & Nyström. The place is stunning. It's in an a brick building located right on the water and has seating outside, which allowed us to enjoy an amazing cup of coffee and a fantastic pastry while taking in a gorgeous day. Inside they had a great selection of pastries and coffee. The staff definitely knows coffee and made great drinks. They used really great beans and had beans for sale as well. Also, for tea drinkers they had tea available and seemed to have a lot of different choices. Inside there was lots of seating with comfy looking couches and nooks to plop down in. If ever in Helsinki make sure to check out Johan & Nyström, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The kind of coffee shop you would want to bring back home with you! Located on seafront, in a hold warehouse with exposed red bricks, this place has ALL the things that make a coffee place phenomenal: sourcing and roasting their own beans, great materials (black eagle coffee machine, Ek43, chemex, v60, aeropress...) Raw desserts, pastries and sandwiches, complimentary wifi and aleo vera infused water and knowledgeable staff. The place is large and you could easily find a place to spend an hour or more. As quality comes with a high price tag, expect to spend €€€ here but it is totally worth it (priced as Paris best coffee stores)

Yelp
Great coffee and nice interior. Johan arc Nyström have an upstairs quieter area with books and couches that makes it feel like you're sitting in your own living room. There's also a collaboration space that different groups can reserve and use for work meetings and such. I got the cheapest espresso drink, but it was bomb dot com. The baristas were so nice and even took the time to calibrate the machine so that I could have a good cup of coffee. English was the common language spoken here, but I also heard French, Italian, Finnish, and Chinese, among others I didn't recognize. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
This place is truely a haven of peace when it's windy or rainy outside ! Located close to seaport just at the bottom of Uspenski Cathedral, it's really nice to know a place so comfy with sofas, great decoration and atmosphere. You can also go upstairs if you want a little bit of intimacy with your group of firends, I mean like girl talk :) The service is like everything else, so cool ! Ok it's very hype and trendy but people working here seems happy and cheerful, so you will feel quickly the same. There is a large selection of homemade pastries. I don't like coffee so I can't tell you how is it, but my friend said it was one of the better he ever drank, if you like real expresso. So it's a major coffeshop in Helsinki, don't miss it

Yelp
Great pit stop and location from the market square. I think price is a bit higher due to location but my latte still tastes great. Nice decor too.
google avatar

Yelp
A cafe that looks like it came from a dream. Located right in front of the pier, you have a scenic view of the water and boats. High ceilings, lovely decor and great coffee! Love how they provide blankets for customers who want to sit outside and enjoy the waterfront. Still dreaming of this cafe back in America.

Yelp
Johan and Nyström, the Swedish micro roaster, have found an absolutely fantastic space in Helsinki. It is a beautiful space spread over two floors facing the water. In the summer they have seats outdoors so one can sit right by the water and enjoy the beverages. The location is not smack in the center but in summer it is an easy walk and in winter take the tram or bus. They serve their own coffee and tea and the quality is as good as in Stockholm. Actually I do often feel as if I get better coffee here as they seem to be more focused on serving a good cup every time. In the summer they also offer really nice cold brews and of course they also serve tea. The pastries are often raw and vegan cakes but more importantly they taste wonderful and are often very nice looking. They do also have some sandwiches but the main thing to come here for is the coffee and the cakes.

Yelp
I stop by many mornings before class for a perfect cappucino or a smooooooth cold brew. The korvapuusti is so enormous and delicious, I can't stop thinking about it. The best part is that, despite a perfect location (at the marina and just 2 min walk to Kauppatori), it never feels crowded or loud or rushed.

Yelp
A bit off from the city centre this Johan & Nyström is situated in a beautiful, assumingly, old factory building with exposed bricks just by the waterfront below the Uspenskij cathedral. The interior alone is worth a 5, absolutely lovely. They have oatmilk and the oat latte was excellent. I also spied raw and vegan treats in the display but since it was only a to go latte it was no time for that. I love that classy hipster Swedish tea and coffee merchant Johan & Nyström has branched out to other cities/countries than Stockholm. And that they obviously serve just as excellent beverages there too. Nb that the staff surprisingly enough doesn't speak Swedish, at least not when we visited. I can easily see myself upping the review to 5 whenever I return to Helsinki AND have the time to sit down to actually eat/work there - for now it's not really fair to give that just because of the excellent oat latte and the wonderful, cosy interior... I'll be back!

Yelp
Cute little waterfront coffee shop is a fun area of Helsinki. Outdoor seating and we had no problem getting a table on a Saturday morning. The pastries we had were delicious and the iced coffee was great. My husband really liked his cappuccino.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Great coffee, characterful and cosy interior design, and picturesque location mean I'll be back here in a hurry. Kiitos!

Yelp
Yo, I'll try to keep it short but let me say what it seems all other reviews already (but which I feel the need to provide after weeks of euros racking in on this place): 1. Location 10/10-- It's off the track a little bit. Trust me, the couple seconds' inconvenience makes it better. Don't ask how, it just does. Like you earned something when you walk in. 2. Music 11/10 -- All the goods: old school rap, the best of Kanye, the new Chance, and some reaaaal chill other genres that, to be honest, I can't name but make you wanna pull out Shazam and save and steal, so you can finally get the respect you deserve from your music-snob homies. 3. Service 12/10 -- the coffee is always ALWAYS the best cup of coffee you could have... like exactly-what-you-ordered-but-maybe-even-better? kind of way. And consistently this place has the kind of baristas that don't mess up your orders, keep the place immaculate without ever making you feel like you've overstayed your welcome, and just-- basically-- know their trade really well. Big deal. Moral? There's some sandwiches and teeny cute cakes, but you know what you're actually there for? The best coffee, cool view, warm interior....aaaand you'll totally, likely, absolutely get it.

Yelp
Very freshly and innovatively designed coffee shop at a very beautiful location at Katajanokka. Paid attention to lightning right after I walked in. All in all very well decorated. The coffee is totally worth the price and the americano I had was special compared to a normal one that you get in Helsinki. Professional baristas had a lot of knowledge about coffee and tea. One of the best spots to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea in Helsinki. Will go again. Card payments only.
google avatar

Jasmiina L.

Yelp
Johan & Nyström is one of those places where I like to hang out in the weekend thanks to its relaxed atmosphere, its tastefully decorated interiors and not to forget its delicious coffee! It's worth going there after a nice walk around this part of Katajanokka.
google avatar

Tiina S.

Yelp
I spent about a month in Helsinki and this was one of my favorite coffee shops to come do work at. A beautiful space with a nice view of the water tucked away from the more crowded touristy area. Lots of space, seating, and outlets and good wifi. They have great coffee and an assortment of pastries and snacks. It can get crowded with people visiting from the cruise ships but other than that it's pretty mellow.
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
Johan & Nystrom's cosy interior of exposed brick, wood and assortment of comfy chairs can hardly be beaten. The coffee too is excellent and the stocking of 'unbaked' cakes a worthwhile curiosity. But it's surprisingly expensive and (outrage!) the wifi a little patchy. The interior is pretty special. Located in what appears to be a former warehouse right on one of Helsinki's harbours, the red brick walls and huge wooden beams (though people of height should be warned that some of them are perilously low) immediately put you at ease. Add some colourful crockery, Finnish design and a variety of furniture, and the effect is the kind of classic mix of old and new that the Nordic countries do so well. Coffee options are espresso and a range of filter options - Chemex, Aeropress and drip from what I could see. My girlfriend and I ordered a filter coffee, cappuccino, brownie and unbaked cake. Price? 18.6 euros! Even taking into account the mystifying and marked price difference between Aeropress/drip coffee and espresso coffee, that does seem high. Much of the coffee equipment seemed expensive too. Fancy an Aeropress? Yours for just 41.50 euros! That's 10 euros more than in the UK. Hence while I liked the coffee and cakes, I'd return to Johan & Nystrom more for the cool yet cosy interior than a caffeine and cake fix.

Yelp
Hands-down fantastic coffee. One of the best lattes I've had in quite a while. Sadly wasn't very impressed with their chai latte (not as flavorful and robust). We completely missed out on the great selection of pastries that others have mentioned. Maybe you need to arrive in the early morning? The cookies looked good but ridiculously overpriced at € 3.50 (for something like 5 bites). Their 3-4 cakes on display are raw (as in, uncooked, unprocessed) -- the sea buckthorn cake was light and pretty unique, but ultimately just not as satisfying. Great atmosphere, warm and cozy. I'll go back for another latte.
google avatar

Kirsti T.

Yelp
So, the location is still ace, same as the interior - love those brick walls, high ceiling and all that. However, something has changed: the vibe is slightly different and the latte a little less perfect. The owner has changed recently and usually changes like that have some effect. However, it could well be so that it just takes a while for them to get everything up and running smoothly. I'll definitely be back, but for the time being I need to change the rating from 5 to 4 stars.
google avatar

Dominique G.

Yelp
For a large space, the seating is not well arranged so it is difficult to find any space that is clean. The insistence on glass cups and no saucers for things like lattes means that you will burn your hands. It is also quite expensive.
google avatar

Genevieve L.

Yelp
Nice coffee... The views of the bay are amazing and tranquil
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Great coffee house on the water. I like that it is away from the busier part of the city. The cafe has a small selection of sandwiches, desserts (vegan friendly) and wider choices of coffee, infused waters and tea. Really cute place!
google avatar

Antti L.

Yelp
My favourite hideout for remote work. Old school jazz vibes with wide selection of different coffee and tea types.
google avatar

Jennie C.

Yelp
Lots of lovely seating both inside and out, and a lovely view of the water. I ordered a cappuccino...I'm not so good at describing coffee, but for some reason I felt it was a little too bitter as if it were roasted too much/burnt. That made me a little disappointed....but I maybe it's personal taste :)

Gamber E.

Yelp
American tourists, we came through here looking for a chill coffee place and some breakfast. It's ina. Lovely spot on the harbor with WiFi, great food and coffee.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Super hip coffee shop right on the water, in a location far more pleasant than the city centre. Friendly professional staff, good coffee. Obviously you're going to get the international crowd here so it may not feel that exotic, that's merely a note, not a criticism. I'll certainly be back.
google avatar

Anette A.

Yelp
Its a really cool place with great tasting coffee / hot chocolate . A place that needs a visit if you love coffee. The staff was happy to serv!
google avatar

Therese B.

Yelp
Johan & Nystrom have hosted many Likeminded Breakfasts, where we meet and chat about our work or lifestyle in Helsinki. Each time I've been, I've had generous customer service. The coffee is very good! They have a variety of roasts and they use tender loving care with their drop method and espresso drinks. The owners clearly take pride in their concept store and give you an opportunity to browse a lot of current design magazines. This place is quickly becoming my little creative hideaway.
google avatar

S T.

Yelp
I was here because I wanted a coffee at the airport. It was Ok but I still am a Starbucks fan all the way.
google avatar

Clive M.

Yelp
Great cafe in warehouse facing water not far from ferry port. Lovely spacious area with lots of comfy furniture and outside seating for sunny summer days. Top spot for good coffee and pastries in lovely location with view of harbour and boats.
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee and service. Cozy to sit and talk with friends and get away from the brisk wind.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Really nice, cool and cozy place. Nice chairs, fast wifi and good coffee.
google avatar

Dag S.

Yelp
Morning meeting over a doppio (excellent) and a glazed cinnamon bun (tasty, sweet and fresh). But where did they hide the water with our coffee? Did not bring it, even though we reminded them.

Ptra S.

Yelp
A cafe with stunning interior design, by the water with a laid back coolness factor enhanced by the soundtrack. A place to stay for a while. Oh yes the coffee is excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good coffee, extremely good service. Gorgeous interiour.

Yelp
This place is located in a beautiful old building with really nice atmosphere. Freshly roasted coffee and interesting baked goods.

Yelp
I love love love this place. Fantastic get away on a rainy day. Good vibes, excellent coffee!

Yelp
Super awesome place, good coffee, friendly staff, nice urban interior, lots of room to have private conversation with good friends

Yelp
Great tea and coffee. We were fascinated by the pastries after we ordered and they sent a cake over for us to try. Highly recommended. This place has a great feel to it.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
Love the interior of the café! Coffee was also good... but if I come here again it's for the space itself. They also sell coffee and all that goes too it, it's a science :)
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
Slightly out of the way, on the water and in a charming brick building. It's a great place to relax and unwind, away from the pretensions of the Esplanade. Our lattes were superb, and the staff was very helpful.

Darren L.

Yelp
Good cappuccino, great atmosphere, great place to do some work. Also, the best ham & cheese sandwich I've ever had. I watched them slice the cheese in front of me. Amazing service. All around, exactly what I was looking for in a coffee shop!
