This coffee shop has a really nice vibe. The staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome. There’s a pleasant aroma of coffee in the air, and the coffee itself is consistently good, probably one of the best you can find around Stockholm. I come here quite often, and it’s always a reliable spot for a quality cup and a comfortable place to sit. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby.

Google
Pros: Loved the atmosphere. The big sunny ☀️ window seats. The staff was super kind. Reasonably priced. Cons: Pour over coffee was just average. Not bad but not a stand out. But we are very picky pour over people so others may have a different palette and I’d still say worth trying! The latte was good.

I ordered a macchiato, but the coffee beans were sour and bitter, which was not my personal taste. I finished the macchiato and the staff had to hurry up and clean up the cup so I could even relax. It was a nice cafe where you can sit with your legs stretched out, but I was disappointed that I couldn't properly enjoy my time and rest.

Such a lovely café—perfect for a true Swedish-style fika! I really enjoyed the kanelbulle, and my matcha latte was rich, fragrant, and delicious. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their pastries next time!

I’ve had Johan & Nyström on my list for years, and I’m so glad we finally gave it a try, especially since we happened to be nearby. The cafe is tucked right at the intersection of Swedenborgsgatan and Maria Prästgårdsgata, making it a perfect spot for people-watching. With large glass windows and generous outdoor seating on both sides of the street, it’s ideal for enjoying a sunny fika while watching the world go by. There’s also plenty of seating indoors, which makes it a cozy option year round, whether you're looking for a quiet corner to work or a place to catch up with a friend. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, but what truly stood out was the coffee. It was, without exaggeration, one of the best we’ve had in a long time, incredibly smooth, balanced, and rich in flavor. Both my husband and I were impressed with our drinks: the latte and cappuccino were equally memorable. As I sit here writing this, I’m already thinking about our next visit. This place has definitely earned a spot among my favorite cafes in Stockholm.

Google
Lovely cafe with an espresso and filter options, they also sell coffee beans… they have inside and outside sitting options… I tried them and Drop Coffee just around the corner, both good options for caffeine heads

Google
Very nice cafe! Absolutely one of my favourites of all time. Really recommend to come here!

Google
I don’t understand what’s so famous about this cafe except for their sitting space. Yeah they have nice windows space for casual sitting and comfort chit chat. But coffee was the regular. When I asked the guy at the counter to order if they have any flavors for latte or känelbullar or some other fika items(other than these small pastry kinda they have), he was like we are very traditional and was kinda rude. I thought bullars were traditional too and also how does adding flavors make coffee non traditional. I didn’t feel the vibe to be honest, but others might like it. May be I expected more and missed something

Yelp
We were very pleased with a really delicious cappuccino and matcha latte! Indoor and outdoor seating. Welcoming and helpful (bilingual) staff.

Yelp
I landed in Stockholm nearly an hour earlier than expected and was in dire need of either a long nap or strong coffee and a cardamom bun. Since my hotel room wasn't ready that soon, a trip to Johan & Nystrom was in order. Located on a quiet street two blocks from the Mariatorget park, this quaint cafe offers up an excellent house brew and an assortment of pastries. That cup of coffee was dark and just bitter enough, while the cardamom bun was sweet, sticky, and spicy.

Yelp
Bustling corner cafe with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The coffee selection is wide with coffee beans from all over the world so anyone can find something that will be pleasing. It is clearly a popular spot that was filled when I stopped by in the middle of the afternoon. Excellent coffee bean quality.
google avatar

Yelp
Adorable local coffee shop with chill vibes. They have a short menu, but it includes a very good matcha latte in addition to the usual coffee drinks. The pastries here are delicious. There is some outdoor seating so you can enjoy the quiet street this coffee shop is located on.

Yelp
The service was very pleasant, the shop was clean, and the variety of pastries was wonderful. A very relaxing vibe.

Yelp
One of the things I loved about Stockholm was the coffee scene. I drank some form of espresso drink at least twice a day while I explored around, and learned quickly that Söder was where you want to be to get the exceptional stuff. Quite frankly, the more hipster the location, the better the coffee. And of all the cafes I visited, the best coffee hands down while hustling and bustling through Stockholm was at Johan & Nyström. Every barista had a man bun- I knew I had found the right place. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and my oat milk latte (of course it was Oatly) was absolute perfection alongside the vegan breakfast sandwich I ordered. There's both indoor and outdoor seating and the location close to the metro system makes this an essential place to have fika in Söder.

Karen L.

Yelp
Excellent coffee. I had a decaf latte with oat milk. 5 stars. And a croissant with avocado and egg ( I think it was an whole avocado and a whole sliced boil egg.) It was generous. The croissant was average, but I live in France so I might be a croissant snob! The veggie sandwiched looked better, but I'm not eating cheese at the moment. Outdoor seating, and super nice people who work there.

Yelp
One of the first coffee shops I visited during my week stay in Stockholm. Delicious coffee and pastries, with a lovely little parklet seating area out front (I hope this is the right location I'm reviewing!) I ordered the coffee + tonic water, a first for me, and it was delicious!

Yelp
When I first arrived in Stockholm, I thought fika was just coffee + pastries. But at Johan & Nystrom, I realized that fika is so much more - it's an experience and a state of mind. I felt like everything about this cafe just made this concept more pronounced. First off, the aesthetic is so cool and hipster - but the welcoming and warm hipster, not the pretentious too cool for you type of hipster. The entire staff was soo kind and helpful too. I ordered a cortado to drink and was SO ecstatic that they served it in the cortado glass. This was seriously by far the tastiest coffee that I drank on the trip. After eating, I ended up sampling their house blend which I enjoyed so much I ended up buying the beans to take back home to share with my co-workers. To eat I ordered a rhubard tart which was like a mini crumble pie. Perfectly flaky and tart! I also got a flatbread? open faced sandwich? not quite sure but it was delicious. The "bread" was really different grains/seeds (pumpkin?) topped with a sliced boiled egg and some other veggies. Seriously, Scandinavia is killing it with their open faced sandwich game. Overall, I loved everything about this cafe and if I lived in Stockholm I would be a frequent visitor!

Yelp
Came here for a quick breakfast. I got a cold brew coffee and a sandwich (lettuce, sprouts, radishes and cheese). The cold brew was pretty strong so I asked them to add some milk. The sandwich was surprising good. I've never had a vegetable and cheese sandwich before. The cheese brought the sandwich together. I did wish that there was a little bit of dressing, but that may not be traditional. This place was pricey. I'm not sure if the prices are comparable to other cafes in the area, but we were in a rush and this was on-route.
google avatar

Christy G.

Yelp
Stopped in to warm up on a chilly day, they had sold out of most every food item so we had some cardamom protein balls. My matcha with oat milk was pretty delicious. It's was a cool vibe inside, there was an upstairs loft to hang out in and a downstairs area that looked like they offered barista classes.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful coffee. I took the T out of Gamla and walked a good 10 mins to experience this place and boy am I glad I did. Phenomenal macchiato- smooth, wonderful finish. The cinnamon bun was amazing. Just the right amount offered sticky. Truly a Stockholm institution.
google avatar

Alaine H.

Yelp
Saffransbulle. Addictive and oh so good! Just get it! The coffee is good and this roaster is local to the Stockholm region and well known in the coffee circles. I purchased a bag of julkaffe beans for more Fikapaus.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent place, highly suggest! Beyond friendly and knowledgeable staff - they went above and beyond to make sure my pot of tea was not only acceptable but enjoyable. Loads of loose-lead teas to choose from was my highlight - along with delightful yummy or yummy/healthy sweet bites. A great cafe pick me up for guests (with wifi and beautiful scenes for the #Instagram) and definitely a favorite hang out for locals, dogs and friends everywhere. One of my favorite parts of Stockholm is the cozy cafe scene and this place is top of the list!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the best coffee spots that I have found in Stockholm! They company roasts their own beans, and they offer a variety of different types of brews. There is a board at the counter that explains how you can choose your coffee - either the regular coffee route, or the espresso route (cappuccino, latte, etc). Descriptions of flavors are provided for each type of bean, which helps if you have a specific style that you are after. For your coffee, you can choose how you want it made - I went for a normal pour over and it was great. The inside of the place is super cute, with a couple different areas for seating. It was pretty crowded when I went (early afternoon on a Sunday) but not surprising because their stuff is good!

Yelp
One of the hottest corner of the SOFO district, where you can cool down with a coup of coffee of real good quality. Most of the guests are not watching people passing by. They are watching themselves. Not ment with irony. Must having to do with the coffee, that engulfs you to such a degree that you get anything from talkative to philosophic. I like it and the absolute consequence with which the concept is hold and presented. So how come a "missing" star? Well, there is a somewhat disturbing complacency. Not ment to be there, of course, rather a feeling of pride for working there - that is unhappily canalized. Don´t let that stop you from joining.

Yelp
Incredible coffee. Great atmosphere for hanging out. Definitely worth a visit for coffee lovers. They had a couple of different espresso options, as well as a selection of pour overs. The pastries looked great too, although I didn't have one. Great experience overall. Really enjoyed hanging out there for a while and savoring my coffee. They have kind of cool stadium seating in one of their rooms, as well as some kind of upstairs loft. Good for people on laptops, couples, and small groups I think.

Yelp
Johan Nyström has some of the best (and award-winning!) coffee in Stockholm. If you're in Stockholm and looking for a great fika place, this place rocks! It's also a great cafe to sit in and do work: they have great internet connectivity and there are lots of people sitting and hanging around with laptops open doing work.

Yelp
Great coffee and pastries, especially the kanelbullar (sp?)! We enjoyed this place so much we can back here more than two times during our short stay in Stockholm. Moreover we ordered more than a drink a person hahah. The second visit was disappointing, they totally forgot our order and wasn't very nice about. An annoyed "sorry" was all we got. They still gave us the wrong drink but I didn't want to cause a scene. I docked 1 star for the passive service but still a great place to try. Our first visit the barista was friendly and educated us on the coffees they offered. I had the Kenyan and the bf had the green tea matcha latte, and he said it's the best he's ever had. It also came out very excellent presentation wise. My coffee had a great taste, again I'm not a coffee snob but let's say this is a coffee I want to bring back to my coworkers. We ordered a cappuccino take away and was very pleased with it. The cinnamon, lavender tasting pastry is something I day dream about daily. The texture was perfect, chewy, gooey ish, and coated with sugar. The flavor is very unique and delicious. Wish we got more =(. Every time someone is visiting Stockholm I always tell them to try this place!

Yelp
If you can only go to 1 Cafe in Stockholm, make it be Johan & Nystrom. This is my all time favorite Cafe in Stockholm for a very simple reason. They serve Iced Coffees in the winter months and so far, they are the only Cafe I have found that does so! It did warrant a funny reaction from the barista thought. I ordered an Iced Latte and the barista looked at me, looked out side (at the the steady wall of snow coming down) and looked back at me before asking "Are you sure iced is what you mean?" When the coffee came, it was perfect! A little bit of a bite but that is exactly how I like it. The pastries and sandwiches were awesome as well. However, my favorite part was the staff. Recognizing that I was an out of towner, the staff immediately engaged me in conversation wanting to know where I was from and what brought me to Stockholm. I spent the next hour sitting at the bar and getting a ton on insider scoops to this incredible city! Please if you enjoy coffee and have one place to go, make it be here! You will not regret it.

Yelp
I always wanted to visit this place whenever I come to Stockholm to visit my parents. I finally went there today. It was hard to convince my dad to try the Beetroot latte, but I'm glad he did order it. It was very good, probably the best latte I have tried. Their Matcha latte was good too. The place itself is very cosy and their outside tables are perfect during a beautiful summer day in Stockholm. I will definitely come back again.

Yelp
My travel buddy and I decided to go to Johan & Nystrom one day for our fika. Based on all of the 5 star yelp reviews, we decided it was worth it to travel several metro stops over to Sodermalm to try this cafe. I was v excited because I love matcha, which was proving hard to come by in Stockholm. The cafe itself was spacious with lots of windows and high ceilings. There was a lot of seating and a v cute loft space, which is where my buddy and I sat. There was speedy wifi [by checking-in on Facebook], as well as accessible outlets. There was an additional area of the cafe that was roped off for a private cooking class. I also had fun people-watching here as a lot of the other customers were young + hip. While I enjoyed my matcha latte, my cinnamon bun [bulle] was v dry, and compared with other cafes I went to in Stockholm, they did not have as many pastry options. While I would recommend a quick trip here, it wasn't as special as I was anticipating, which is why I knocked off 1 star.
google avatar

Lily N.

Yelp
Amazing cafe! Their cold brew is one of the best I've had, pastries were delicious as well. The ambience was so relaxing and the outdoor seatings were perfect. Will definitely return!

Yelp
A superb coffeeplace! The staff had tons of skills and was friendly...had an aeropress with kenian coffee...awesome...like berry juice...the tea was also very good...everything was so normal. ..these shops in berlin are all so artifical...hope i will come back...

Yelp
My favourite coffee destination in Stockholm so far; for me they tick ever box. The decor is superb. It is a 'concept bar'. Not really sure what this means except that is looks awesome. It is vibrant, the seating comfy and plentiful, there is a mezzanine, funky art murals all over the walls, even their espresso machine has a design on it. I basically want to live here. the staff absolutely lovely and passionately chatty about coffee. I tasted an espresso there which blew my head off, and also tried a blended brew they had pre made which was really strong and sweet and tasty. The raw Fika available, though extremely expensive is well worth it. I would particularly recommend the raspberry caramel slice - just thinking about it now is making me salivate. They also retail lots of great coffee paraphernalia, stocking equipment for various brewing methods, filters, beans etc. I am going to have to come back to Stockholm to try more.
google avatar

Madeleine K.

Yelp
The place is still my favorite, love it but honestly they used to be a concept store where you got the best of the best of expertise and love for the bean that have changed but know it is a very good cafe with nice coffee and service but it's not what it used to be.
google avatar

Oskar W.

Yelp
Lovely place, lovely location and lovely staff. My cappuccino was one of the best I have ever tried beating many coffee places in cities such as New York, London and Berlin. It had the perfect coffee/milk ratio + a perfectly done milk foam, yet it still had a great, strong and powerful coffee taste. The prices are surprisingly low too - especially compared to other shops around the city (and world for that matter).
google avatar

Thodoris T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, coffee and food. It's bigger than it looks with lots of place to sit. Go for the Ethiopian brew and try one of their fresh sandwiches for breakfast. Great place for getting your laptop out and doing some work
google avatar

Paula I.

Yelp
I'm not the biggest coffee fan in Stockholm, so it basically needs to be really good if for me to appreciate this. Johan & Nyström manage to make the most delicate cup I have ever tasted. To pour milk all over it (like I usually do) is really a shame here. Some Tuesdays they offer a free degustation of coffee, look out for it!
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
I'd say it's my new favorite café, the kanelbulle is the best one I've ever had, it was very well balanced and it wasn't to sweet. I also had a macha tea it was perfectly prepared just like they do in Japan. The waiter I had was a really nice guy who paid attention to detail and with all of this combined it's a place I wouldn't doubt coming back to! They also have courses in coffee brewing and it seemed very good and professional.
google avatar

Ivan B.

Yelp
If you think that you have seen coolest shop in the world but haven't visited J&N concept store in Stockholm, you should make that decision after you see this. Stiffish, casual, high quality focus; all there!!! Cash NOT accepted- card only. Atmosphere is heavenly. Great v60 extraction. Espresso is below expectations but expectations are high. Staff lacks enthusiasm for coffee temple like this. All in all, pretty damn good. Beans are great and that is fundamental - it is all about beans!

Katerina T.

Yelp
Johan & Nystrom is a beautiful coffee shop/concept boutique in Sodermalm. It is arguably one of the best places for coffee in all of Stockholm, so being the coffee fiend that I am--I had to try it. The interior is so well-organized, modern and pristine. You can even witness the staff navigating through the different shelves with their ladders as a bonus. There is outdoor seating, but I decided to sit inside and take in all the action. The barista was super nice. You can feel the passion and care that goes into ever cup. I went with a classic latte, which was creamy, smooth and did not disappoint. . The only other place that competes with this (and is so close by) is Drop coffee.
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
Only tried the Chai glögg during the holidays but the serving was rather small and it was almost cold by the time I realized that it was ready at the counter (no one had called it out). Not the most memorable experience as it was very busy and we had issues finding any type of seating, even if it was on a small cushion. I've heard that the coffee and tea is excellent, but did not have the pleasure of trying it.
google avatar

Steveland M.

Yelp
This is the best coffee in Stockholm without a doubt, I had a great little sandwich for lunch and several coffees they even gave me a free one with a pleasant "on the house for you". Great service and fantastic atmosphere.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
Went in here to buy some tasty beans - wasn't disappointed. They ground the coffee on the spot if you want it.
google avatar

Catherina H.

Yelp
Nice, little specialty café in Stockholm serving great coffee, juices, and the best kanelbullar I've ever had: sticky, sweet, and filled with cinnamon. Great place for a quick pitstop to load up on beautifully served caffeine, and if the weather's great, you can sit outside and soak up the beautiful summer sun of Northern Scandinavia.
google avatar

Julie D.

Yelp
When I heard about this place and their aeropress I got really excited! It's just great! the baristas are very nice and helpful and like to tell you more about coffee and brewing. this is how every coffee place should be. open for conversation.
google avatar

Anna N.

Yelp
Excellent coffee again, they are also roastery. Barist here were really smart and helpful. They have also a lot of components to make coffee and lots of coffee blends to purchase a home at for a good price. It was crowded from the first moment we arrived, the room was better outside bar area(the second room), but unfortunately we did not catch instead. Great place to sit will be definitely outside when it's warmer. Among other things, in this area there is a lot of interesting looking good design shops. So anyway, the next time I go to Stockholm, I'm going to come back in here. A clearly better for me than a branch of Johan & Nystrom in Helsinki, both in terms of coffee and interior.
google avatar

Martin S.

Yelp
Don't fool yourself. Best coffee in town. Sandwiches and pastries are ok but doesn't quite match the brilliant coffee. Nice but limited outdoor seating which is lovely on a sunny day. Indoor seating cosy but not great for coffee office types.
google avatar

Eddy H.

Yelp
It's like a sauna in here. And the Wi-Fi doesn't work for many websites! I will not be coming here again. Seats weren't comfortable either.
google avatar

Jeanette H.

Yelp
Awesome coffee beans in bags to-go or get them freshly grounded and brewed in store. Lots of exciting roasts and small batch boutique roasts, indulge in fair trade coffee with a clean conscience! Don't like coffee? no problem, they have a great selection of tea as well as fresh buttery pastries from Stockholm dessert och choklad. They host free coffee tastings regularly where you learn from the most hardcore and passionate coffee nerds. This is the Mecca for coffee lovers.
google avatar

Julide K.

Yelp
It is one of the best coffee shop in stockholm. Lovely place with a very beautiful interior design. I had the latte & Bulle (cinnamon roll). Both were excellent!
google avatar

Mathias H.

Yelp
Micro roaster (or perhaps not micro any longer) Johan & Nyström have done a tremendous job in doing specialty coffee more popular in Sweden. This is there concept store that they use as a showroom for their coffee and different methods in preparing it. Their coffees may not be as exciting as when they started some years back but this is still a place to go for good coffee. The staff is also very service minded and it is great to be able to choose the brew method (aeropress, chemex, V60 drip or Syphon). Do note that on Sundays they 'close' the espresso machine so then it is only brews.
google avatar

Frederic L.

Yelp
Great little place. Very friendly service. Good coffee and croissants. Just too expensive at 30 kron for a small croissant. They also have some less then convenient seating arrangement which seems to be common with these hipster coffee shops. Sacrificing convenience and comfort for fashion and hipster'ness.
google avatar

Ronny S.

Yelp
Best coffee and ambiance I've experienced in Stockholm so far. All espresso based drinks can be made up of two different types of blends. Tried both across four different coffee drinks 2x flat white and 2x macchiato. All were brilliant for different reasons. Also tried the macha latte. Pretty and green but not my cup of tea. The summer outdoor seating was excellent.
google avatar

May W.

Yelp
Helpful staff talk you through the coffee like a sommelier talks through the wine list, and I quite liked the bulle here. The cardamom was better than the cinnamon. They set up benches to sit outside, with lovely comfy cushions. Good for watching the world go by.
google avatar

Beau A.

Yelp
Best coffee I've had in Stockholm. Hand made espresso with selections of beans. Great pour over coffee again with bean selections. Both chemex and French press offered. Plus love the veggie sandwiches.
google avatar

Asim R.

Yelp
OMG! J&Ns Green Matcha Latte met the mighty high expectations I had for it. My favorite kaffe spot in Söder.
google avatar

Dennis B.

Yelp
The coffee was really good and the place has also an almost nerdy selection of coffee beans, way of preparing the coffee and whether you want cocaine or not (no worries, just kidding) which make the selection process quite lengthy. Minus for the small and quite pricy sandwiches and the two guys in pink shirts sitting behind me talking VERY LOUD about their future careers (as long as they graduate I guess) and how they would work as highly paid business-men. Serious business-men don't wear pink, just saying. I should know. I'm a man, I do business. You should totally trust me.
