I was really excited when I walked into John Devoy’s. The decoration and overall atmosphere of the venue is immaculate, and my partner and I found ourselves getting our hopes up for the drinking/dining experience. We showed up for the bottomless brunch and our waitress sat us immediately. Kudos to her- she brought us our drinks in a timely manner, and mimosas and Bloody Marys were tasty and strong. She was also quite attentive in that she gave us time to decide on our orders, and refreshed our drinks throughout the meal at regular intervals. The meal, however, was almost insulting; my partner and I ordered the NY Strip Steak and Eggs with Hash Browns with the steak medium rare and the eggs over easy. Unfortunately, our steaks had almost no sear on them, and the eggs came out nearly over hard. Being an avid home cook myself, I know exactly how obvious it can be when a dish comes of the fire looking inadequate. It’s clear from these photos that the eggs are way overcooked compared to what “over easy” should be and way too salty, and the steaks have virtually no sear on them (not to mention that the steaks were very clearly not 8 oz). On top of that, the steaks seemed to have been cut with the dullest knife possible. I don’t know what’s going on in the kitchen here, but we were appalled by our food, except for the potatoes.
