4 Asian distilleries to tour and even DIY your own spirit - SilverKris

"A tropical single-malt whisky distillery in Goa offering tours of copper stills and an underground oak barrel cellar, with tasting opportunities that include five whiskies—two of which are available only locally. Tours are inexpensive, around US$14 per person." - Claire Turrell

The Paul John Visitor Centre offers a peak into their whiskey making process. Located in the south of Goa, its a fun place to explore something new. The guided tour starts at 450 rs per person and you can see each step of the process. They also offer a whiskey tasting tour which is separately priced. The tour is certainly informative and the guide is well informed. They have clean washrooms but no cafeteria. Also the nearest restaurant is a bit far off so keep that in mind when visiting. Definitely worth a visit!

We recently visited the Paul John Distillery and had an amazing experience! Our guide, Tannay, was fantastic – he was knowledgeable, engaging, and ensured that we had an insightful tour. He explained the entire whisky-making process in detail and answered all our questions with great enthusiasm. The tasting session at the end was a treat. Highly recommend this tour to anyone curious about the craft of Indian single malts!

Good distillery to visit for Single malt and Whiskey lovers. The guides are awesome and have good knowledge on Single Malts. Tasting is available as per band selection. You can buy select bottles from the retail store. There’s no restaurant on site, recommend good brunch before visiting as the tour is approx 2 hrs. Overall an awesome experience.

Went on a weekday, for the 11am tour. Advance booking is not compulsory, but I would recommend it. We were totally 16pax. I opted for the Green package (Rs 1,000 - 6 tastings). Tour of the distillery & tasting is about 90 mins. We were shown around by the knowledgeable Tanay Raj. We tasted 6 single malts, from colour, nosing, palate & finish. Thereafter, one can purchase their merchandise & variety of single malts. They also manufacture Gin here, though we were not shown that process. Fireball whisky is made by them too, under license. Their Reception area & Housekeeping is top notch, matching International standards (washrooms included). Overall, a very good experience. Would strongly recommend it for SM whisky lovers, and to even those just curious of the distilling process (Rs 450 for distillery tour only). Note: do have a Bite before coming here, as no eatery in the vicinity of this Industrial estate. Cheers.

Exceptional Tour Experience with Tanay and Asmita at Paul John Distillery I and my family recently had the pleasure of visiting the Paul John Distillery, while we are not whisky aficionados, we must say that the experience was nothing short of phenomenal! Our tour guide, Tanay, was instrumental in making this experience truly unforgettable. From the outset, Tanay provided a comprehensive theoretical overview of the whisky making process, which not only set the stage for the tour but also showcased his in-depth knowledge of the subject. His enthusiasm and passion for whisky were contagious, and we found ourselves completely engaged and eager to learn more. As we progressed to the practical distillery visit, Tanay's expertise shone through as he explained each step of the process in meticulous detail. He patiently answered all our questions, providing insightful responses that further enhanced our understanding of the craft. It made us feel more like an immersive experience than a mere walkthrough. Throughout the tour, Tanay's warm hospitality and infectious enthusiasm made us feel like honored guests rather than mere tourists. His love for the craft and his pride in the Paul John Distillery were evident in every aspect of the tour, and it was a genuine pleasure to share in his passion. If you're a whisky enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and engaging experience, I highly recommend visiting the Paul John Distillery with Tanay as your guide. His exceptional knowledge and warm hospitality of Asmita will ensure that you have an unforgettable experience.

I had an excellent experience visiting the Paul John distillery. I was welcomed with a smile by Tanay who offered me a tour and also offered different tasting packages. Tanay also gave us the tour around the distillery and his overall knowledge of distilling and Paul Johns niche ways was excellent. Asmita was also amazing she took me through the drams I tried and there was some amazing whisky and a brandy on offer! Asmita took me down to the basement and I got to try a couple of whiskies straight from the cask and believe me when I tell you there are some absolute beauties waiting to be bottled! This whole experience cost 2500INR which is about £25 in my eyes is an absolute bargain. Thanks for an excellent day!
