I had a stellar evening at John Keogh's this past June. In Galway for the first time, I could not have felt more welcome, from the moment I was greeted at the door, til the time I said my goodbyes. The ambiance was warm and comfortable, with great lighting, and several "snugs" throughout the dining area. Staff was top-notch and friendly without being overbearing in any way.
We started with a dozen delicious Galway oysters. They were as fresh as can be, with clear, briny liquor, and sweet, firm meat. Delicious.
My husband got a dry-aged steak which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. It came with plenty of chips, and they even brought him some "red sauce" (aka ketchup) without any fuss.
I had a pan-seared sea bass served over house-made gnocchi. It came with asparagus, salicornia (a bright green, sea vegetable), and a bit of parsnip puree. Everything was perfectly cooked. The bass had nice crispy skin, but was not dry or overdone. The veggies were all crisp-tender, and the gnocchi was light as a feather.
Our dinner guest had the house-rolled gnocchi that came with an assortment of veggies:roasted cauliflower, watercress, and french beans, with a bright mustardy sauce and a pub salad on the side.
Each one of use was perfectly satisfied with our meal. I have already recommended this place to several of my friends in the States, and made sure they knew to go here when they visit Galway.
Thanks for a wonderful experience!
