I would do whatever in my power to avoid LAX. SNA, on the other hand is probably the best airport in CA. In fact, In September 2024, the J.D. Power 2024 North America Airport Satisfaction Study ranked John Wayne as the #1 large airport in North America (for airports handling 10–32.9 million passengers annually). The TSA staff is overall friendly and laid back - polar opposite of those at LAX. Bathrooms are clean and there are plenty of it. I rarely face flight delays here. Large selection of restaurants to get your vacation buzz started and kill time.

John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana is hands down one of the easiest airports I’ve ever traveled through. I recently used it to attend a Realtor Summit in Sacramento, and the experience was seamless, minimal wait times, super clean, and very easy to navigate. Even when I landed late at night, everything moved smoothly. One thing I love is that they even have a Hoag medical center right inside the airport, which is so reassuring if you’re ever feeling sick or need quick medical attention while traveling. As a local realtor based here in Orange County, I always highlight conveniences like John Wayne Airport to my clients relocating to the area. It’s small, efficient, and truly traveler-friendly. Feel free to reach out if you want more local tips!

John Wayne Airport is a smooth travel experience from start to finish. Compact layout, quick security lines, and friendly staff make it a breeze. Clean terminals, modern vibes, and convenient car rentals seal the deal. 😎

I stopped here for a connection flight, very clean restroom, variety of restaurants, very clean and organized; very easy to find gates. In other airports, I had to go outside and check again and get inside; on this one I came out on gate 15 and my connection was on gate 18, so close and easy!

Google
John Wayne Airport in Irvine, California, is one of the most convenient and stress-free airports I’ve traveled through. The layout is easy to navigate, security lines move quickly, and in most cases, the staff are friendly and helpful. It’s clean, efficient, and makes flying in and out of Orange County a pleasant experience. Highly recommend it for both business and leisure travel.

Historical plaque inscription: Constructed in 1941, Orange County Airport served as an army airfield during World War II. In 1948 the airfield was returned to Orange County. Commercial airline service began in 1952. The facility's name was changed in 1979 in honor of movie icon, John Wayne, one of Orange County's most prominent citizens. Passenger service has continuously improved since dedication of a new terminal in 1990. Recognized as a hub of Orange County transportation, the airport is a tribute to the civil engineering profession which played an important role in its development.

Google
This is a great airport for ease of access for both departure and arrival. Unless I must go through LAX, this is one of three smaller airports to use in the basin. Shorter lines for TSA, too. I’ll go through here again.

Google
John Wayne Airport has been one of the best airport experiences I have had so far. With a small terminal and getting into the secured side past check in and security taking less than 15 minutes, it's a relatively quiet airport facility which is also clean and not overly crowded unlike LAX. Flying here from Phoenix Arizona takes only around 45 minutes.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Super clean, efficient airport with excellent customer service. Flying into SNA was a breeze.

Christina T.

Yelp
SNA is my preferred local airport to fly out of. While flights are generally higher priced and less direct compared to LAX, this is much more convenient and relaxing than the madhouse you'd encounter at LAX. They have several convenience store options, a few fast food places (Carl's Jr, McDonald's, Starbucks, Coffee bean), and some restaurants. Its a relatively small airport, so it's easy to navigate. Of the dozen or so times I've been here, I've never had to wait too long to get past TSA.

Yelp
I love this airport. I make a point to fly in and out of it as much as possible. It is the only airport in Orange County, CA. This is a small airport that is clean and efficient. When flying here, I use the carrier SouthWest. Within the airport, there are 22 gates in total. The main passenger terminal, the Thomas F. Riley Terminal, is named for the late county supervisor who lobbied for the airport's expansion in the 1980s. The Thomas F. Riley Terminal is divided into three terminal areas, A, B and C, with dedicated commuter gate areas at the north end of Terminal A and south end of Terminal C. All three terminals, A, B and C, are within the same Thomas F. Riley building and security screened passengers can move between all terminal areas. Security screening lanes exist in all three terminals adjacent to check-in. All security screening areas also have a fast track lane for first-class and elite frequent fliers along with full TSA PreCheck availability based on TSA defined schedules. Switching between terminals indoors before security is also possible, the check-in counter areas between all three terminals have connecting walkways to allow access between all terminals. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided in all three terminals. Additionally, the selection of eateries for such a small airport is outstanding. Save travels!

Yelp
Having flown through John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Santa Ana several times, I found it is a fantastic alternative to the chaos of Los Angeles airport (LAX). Getting in and out of the airport is a breeze, thanks to its convenient location and minimal traffic. The layout is traveler-friendly, with rental car return located close to the terminal, eliminating the need for long walks or shuttles. The airport offers plenty of food options to satisfy different tastes, along with the added bonus of both an Admirals Club and a United Club lounge for those looking to relax before their flight. Overall, it's a well-organized, efficient airport that makes traveling stress-free. Highly recommended for those flying in or out of Orange County!

Nam B.

Yelp
They did expanded the place by adding another terminal a long time ago, but the place is still small. Most of the time, pricing can be a bit more than LAX or Ontario airports due to location convenience to some.

Elisa G.

Yelp
This is definitely the most convenient airport in all of OC and the only airport in OC! Easy parking and going through security is a cinch with TSA Pre. I highly recommend! Southwest isn't as great as American but better than Spirit air!!

Lili H.

Yelp
John Wayne airport has been my cool airport since I moved to CA (my serious airport is LAX) Why? Because I always go to Vegas from here lol, well among other destinations. SNA is smaller, cleaner and more efficient than other airports, parking is not as crazy and TSA is a bit friendlier ( a bit not a lot). I can't use this airport to go bc and come from Colombia but oh well, is my local fun airport. And the first time I flew from here took a picture from the statue of John Wayne for my father who was big fan of his movies, that's a nice memory to have.

Diana G.

Yelp
Small. Quick tsa. Pre check was super fast. Plenty of seating with outlets. They have a good amount of places to grab some food. The restroom I went to only had a handful of stalls. There was always a line. The car rental is on site.

Melinda L.

Yelp
One of my favorite airports I've flown through for many years. I just came back from recent travels and everything went pretty smoothly. Like many reviews have mentioned, food options are really sparse, but you won't go too hungry. Going through TSA is pretty much a breeze and it doesn't get too busy like the other local airports. Staff around here will give good customer service. John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a much smaller, local airport that serves Orange County and other areas in its vincinity, but I find it to be a comfortably and almost stress-free to fly in or out of. Flying always has something stressful about it, so just the nature of flying. Their parking here is rather small, not sure how many parking spaces are available, but as its a smaller airport, there may be some limitations of parking spaces. General facilities here are all clean, like the bathrooms all around the airport, the terminals' seatings, TSA checkpoints, etc. are neat and tidy. For those more anxious or first-time flyers in or out of this airport, being SNA is a smaller airport, the actual runway for the airplanes here run much shorter. What that means is that during departures, planes will go up on a much higher incline and you may notice the engines are turned-off for a brief moment (that's because of the county's residence who voted for general quieter aviation noise), but nothing to be alarmed about! Secondly, when arriving, pilots will likely have to do a much harder break upon landing, due to the shorter landing strip. Other than that, easy-peasy! And during major holidays, they do decorate the general area. As of this post, they have a beautiful Christmas tree once you come in pass TSA. I didn't get to capture a photo as I was catching a flight, but book a flight sometime and you'll experience this airport yourself.

Britney M.

Yelp
This is my preferred airport. Downside though, is that it is very small. It's hard to get a flight out of her, depending on your destination. I've found that flying out of LAX is easier since they offer more flights. Even though, John Wayne Airport is closer and not as chaotic as LAX, they don't have the same number of flights as bigger airports. Which makes sense; bigger airport equals more planes, and more planes means more flights going in and out. Still, the convenience of how close this is and not dealing with the traffic and congestion when you have to go to LAX, is really nice. It's a clean airport and easy to navigate since it is smaller. Not like those big airports that are so confusing lol I get lost in those lol It is more expensive to fly out of this airport, but worth it to keep your sanity lol

Valerie T.

Yelp
A small airport under construction which has very well signage. The airport is clean and even with the construction it was easy to navigate around. The one downfall I would say is the runway was so short the landing was not as smooth with a hard break. We made it safe and sound which all that matters, but just something to note. If you need to take the train it is not located at the airport. Happy traveling adventures!

Joe S.

Yelp
This is a fairly easy to navigate, small airport which doesn't have the greatest design. It's just one big long terminal with gates on one side. I was flying Southwest and a colleague was flying United, so I went to his gate area to shoot the breeze a bit and my flight was later. Well, it was a fairly long walk to my gate from here. There were people movers but still. I guess if you are just going to your gate, it's quick and painless. Same for meeting people and coordinating transportation for people flying in on different airlines. I think there were 3 baggage claims that aren't easily connected. Food wise, it had some decent options. It did have a Vino Solo for winding down a bit before a flight. And the Brodard express was a good quick service restaurant. I think I saw pizza and a Carl's Jr. too. I've flown into a few LA area airports and this was definitely the easiest one to fly in and out of. Not sure why it's named after Batman though.

Laura P.

Yelp
It was a smooth airport experience on an early morning flight. Everything is close by and accessible. I will use this airport again.

Yelp
At John Wayne Airport at Santa Ana, California (November 25.2024) ................................................ John Wayne Airport When you want to travel to Anaheim, California, you can't get any more convenient than John Wayne Airport-Orange County (SNA). A mere 20 minutes from Anaheim, this airport gets you closest to all the great things to do in the city, whether you're going to the Disneyland® Resort, heading to the beach, or an event at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Jeanie N.

Yelp
Pros: - very easy to get to - never much difficulty finding a place to pull over for drop off or pick up - all agents are friendly - clean - often live music inside Cons: - food options are sad - water quality is terrible (as in all of OC) - employees will bark at you to keep the car moving - signage for waiting lot is inefficient and unhelpful

Tom E.

Yelp
When flying into southern cal, you have a few options in where to fly to (on a commercial flight, even more with private). Be mindful where you pick, as the drive to your final destination can mean the difference of hours. When I flew into LAX the other night, just to get from t2 to t7 it took 25 minutes (was on a rental car shuttle). Then add the commute from LAX to Anaheim. But, for my work schedule, this was a necessary evil. For my flight home, you better believe I chose SNA- I mean why not, they have a few flight options daily to ATL (via Delta), and the commute is about half (along with the headaches of dropping off the rental). I had flown in/out here a few times over the years, and it gets the job done, but I do have to note a few shortcomings (especially with the amount of money that surrounds this airport). For one, since it is a smaller airport, the car rental centers for the most part are NOT 24 hours. I wanted to catch the 630A home, but I couldnt trust dropping off my rental to a place that opened up at 0600 then make it to the gate (with precheck, I know I could, but I wasnt going to risk it, knowing my luck). Also, once I have left a rental after hours and tried to get charged some asinine fees, so I don't like messing with that headache. Just keep that in mind if you are flying early. Checking in and security is easy, and they do have pre-check, but it seemed like none of the pre-check flyers were frequent flyers, which made the line go slower than the standard lines (but I have seen this at a lot of smaller airports in general). There are 3 lounges here, but for AA and United. I understand that Delta not having a large enough market here for one, however, I am kind of surprised there is not a 3rd party like priority pass (or even like the one at OAK). With the dated leather seats in the terminal, I would think it would warrant one here. My last thing, was the private aircraft rule here. In fact, I almost saw one collide with an Alaskan Air landing, and it was like nobody thought anything of it (or maybe they didn't see each other, or maybe just near misses are normal here). We sat on the runway an extra 40 minutes for "small aircraft" to do their thing. I honestly thought we were sitting for air traffic in ATL to clear up. When I heard that, I just shook my head. The building has its modern touches in some areas, and dated in others. I keep hearing that this place is one of the top airports in the country for customer satisfaction. I mean maybe as a backup for LAX absolutely, but you have to remember because it smaller, you don't have as many options, which for my crap schedule, I need more often than not. I would like to add on their webpage they do have "airpaws" therapy dogs that look absolutely adorable, but unfortunately I didn't get to a see a single one down at gate 2. But be sure to be on the lookout for them, they look so sweet! Will I come back through here? Yea, if I ever decide to go back to socal. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
Another fabulous trip via John Wayne. Gotta admit it is one of the most beautiful, clean and well maintained airport I have been to. The people here are amazing and nice. TSA was great and the restaurants, bars and shops were great. I didn't encounter not one bit of trash anywhere. The best part about John Wayne airport is the takeoffs! Due to local noise ordinances, take offs are quick and powerful and will launch you up like a rocket! I really love this airport! Thank you

Kris G.

Yelp
Small airport in Orange County. I love that it provides another option close to San Diego, that is much closer than LAX and way less crowded. They don't have a ton of direct flight destinations, but if you can find one, the airport is easy to get in to and out of, and looks nice, new, and modern.

Jenn R.

Yelp
My favorite airport to fly out of for many reasons... - Parking is close to the terminals. Pricey, but just like Orange County, it's all about location. - The John Wayne Airport website actually shows in real time how many parking spaces are available in each structure. So if you're a planner (not me), you can check the website before driving over. - Terminals are small enough to navigate through easily. - There may be long lines to get through check point, but it moves relatively quickly (get TSA pre-check). - Greenleaf Kitchen & Cocktails' Breakfast Sandwich is reason enough for me to get there way earlier than my flight time. - Planes take off towards the Pacific Ocean, so you will always get a beautiful view before it turns around and heads inland. - When I get back from traveling, leaving the airport doesn't take forever. Pay at the parking gate and exit.

Norbert K.

Yelp
I've watched SNA grow up over the last four decades from a single terminal regional airport to the three terminal major airport it is today with flights to/from over 40 non-stop destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. I do prefer the broader domestic and international access from LAX and SAN, but SNA fills a niche. I think its Volunteer Ambassador Program is great. It provides superior customer service to travelers as they navigate the airport. Traffic flow in the airport is very good. I also like that parking and car rental operations are adjacent to the terminals.

Mike F.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to fly out of John Wayne Airport (SNA) recently, coming home from a recent trip to Disneyland. I'm feeling like a nice bullet point review at the moment, so here we go... - Easy to follow signage that easily took me right where I needed to go. Pulled right into the rental car area, turned in my car, and was at the terminal after a 5-minute walk! I love when things actually work out smoothly like that! - Maybe it was the time that I went, but there were not many people around at all! No lines. Screening was quick and painless. The agents were actually nice and friendly. - Plenty of food and snack options! I've flown in and out of small airports before and usually the food options are pretty limited. Not here. We ended up getting some pretty tasty Vietnamese food, but you have plenty of sundry's stores, some fast-food options (we were next to a Carl's Jr.), and even a few bar options too. (There was a Stella Artois Bar right dead next to our terminal lol) I honestly don't know if this whole experience flying out could have gone any better. The only way it gets better than this is if it gets cheaper! Not holding my breath on that one though. 5 stars.

Mickele B.

Yelp
This airport is not terribly busy. Easy to get to and navigate. An excellent option for traveling in Southern California.

Krystal B.

Yelp
John Wayne Airport (SNA) is my go-to airport in Southern California! I find that flying in and flying out of this airport is always the way to go! Flying out is so easy, because SNA is a smaller airport, the TSA lines go by quickly, and the airport itself is very clean. Most workers here are quite nice and don't seem to despise their job unlike many other busy airports. Drop off is quite easy and the airport is easy to navigate via car and once inside :) However, the gate areas can be quite small because of the space and can get crowded quite easily, so you may need to chill at a nearby bar or gate. Flying In is sooo easy. The smaller terminals allow for easy access to baggage claims and ground transportation. I recently booked a roundtrip to LAX and after walking 20+ min to ground transportation and then taking a shuttle to Uber/lyft areas and it taking over an hour plus from the gate to getting into an Uber, we cancelled our flight home through LAX to fly out of our fav SNA!

Rebecca W.

Yelp
My first choice of airport in So Cal. Easy, fast and chill is the vibe here. Precheck line is usually less than 5-10 people waiting. I have been flying in and out of SNA in last decade. It's one of the easiest airport I've been to. Just need to come 40 minutes before your boarding time would be sufficient in my experiences. I liked that they recently added Brodard in the airport. Love me some nem nuong rolls. I got it couple times already. Slightly smaller than the restaurant imo but taste the same! Have a nice flight out Yelpers!

Matthew U.

Yelp
Having flown out to California to San Diego I wasn't expecting to changing my flight out or extending my stay. When I figured out which airport I was going to fly out of, I made sure to do some research on the airport so I knew what to expect. John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA, has a reputation as being one of the harshest airports to fly out of. Or at least a lot of the videos I have come across recently had a variation of the same extreme condition. That condition being the way that you have to takeoff from the airport. A combination of short runway, steep climb, and full throttle make for an intense takeoff. Once air bound, the engines reduce it's power at about a thousand feet and then you make an extreme turn. From what I get, it's to reduce the noise while being overtop a residential neighborhood. As for the airport itself, Decent airport that is truly efficient. From the time we dropped our vehicle off at the rental place until we were through security, was something like twenty minutes top. In my opinion, this isn't that huge of an airport size wise, so it makes for an easy navigation to grab a bite to eat, find restrooms, or find a shop. Gates are easily marked, more than enough seating, and I don't feel like it was hard to hear in here to keep the communication from each gate separate, but at the same time you could hear the overall announcements in the airport.

Jose H.

Yelp
Convenient to fly out of unless you're at the gates on either ended, kinda far. Not many food options. But still a cute airport.

AuBriana B.

Yelp
Nice airport with just a few small terminals. Not far from Disneyland at all. Not a lot of food options but you're easily able to get from one terminal to another to get food from different places. Terminal A has a Coffee Bean Starbucks is in Terminal B Ride share pick up is at the top of the parking garage across the way.

Karen F.

Yelp
What an easy EASY airport to navigate! Got through customs quickly and everything is super clean in the terminal.

Lynda S.

Yelp
I really like flying in/out of this airport. It's our go to airport when traveling to SoCal. Car rental is across the street and terminals A,B,C are all easy and clearly marked! U til next time SNA!

Vivian U.

Yelp
Really like this airport given its convenience and efficiency and general cleanliness! I live about 15 min away, and it's about 25 min from calling an Uber at home to arriving at my gate (with TSA pre check at Terminal B). I also appreciate the water bottle filling station. I just wished they had more places to plug in while seated at the gate, though. I often choose to a connection (since sadly SNA is not a united hub) over a direct flight (but have to deal with LAX traffic). Because I think it's worth it!

Natasha C.

Yelp
John Wayne Airport is always quick and easy to get through. I've never had issues with checking my bag or going through TSA. The food options are mostly limited to fast food, but if you have a layover, hopefully, you're not stuck here for too long. Overall, it's a nice, relaxed, small airport.

Natalie F.

Yelp
Flying in/out of this airport is a breeze! It has many flights within CA to accommodate business travel. Arrivals and departures are easy, and there is a rideshare at the top of the parking structure. It is a small, walkable airport, and the TSA is fast and kind. I have never had any issues or delayed flights. Their direct flight to Puerta Vallarta is clutch. Restaurants, markets, fast food, coffee, and refillable water bottle stations.

Cody S.

Yelp
Probably the most convenient airport you'll ever go to. 3 small terminals all in 1 long building. Can see the entire airport at once! Getting from drop off to your gate takes about 15 min. Still has plenty of options for snacks and some pre-trip drinks! Only thing is, since it's a smaller airport, landing is a little rougher from the hard breaking, it's normal but surprising if you're new!

Judy C.

Yelp
Fun Fact: Originally named Orange County Airport, The Orange County Board of Supervisors renamed the airport in 1979 in honor of actor John Wayne who lived in neighbor of Newport Beach and died that year. Besides my love for LGB, I LOVE this airport too! My childhood friend and cousin suggest I fly out of SNA, for just 2 reasons, a smaller airport like LGB and another reason BRODARD, super yay!! It actually cost more for me, to fly out of SNA but I got lucky (Southwest) on both my flights back home to HNL. I scored a great deal! I really loved my experience back in December 23 and during this recent January flight. Lets talk about my most recent experience, 1.15.24, after returning our rental car, we had only one hour before boarding time and could you believe it? We did it all within that time frame, checked in our luggage with Southwest, TSA and I even got my Brodard. Wow!! I have to say TSA was so smooth, just get your ID ready, no boarding pass needed this time. Done & done, no problems, all bags cleared & passed. They are on top of it! Finding our gate was super simple too, I can never get lost if I am traveling by myself. Oh and just either go left or right once you exit TSA for your gate. Oh and if you're looking for Brodard Express, just like me, its located just at the end to your right, walk to the end by gate 13. Overall, I just love how small, modern, nice and clean SNA is. It would be a special bonus to be able to fly out of SNA again, I can't wait!! Next time I fly out of SNA, I have to look for John Wayne statue.

Ginger D.

Yelp
I love JWA!!!! It's small, it's fast and I've nicknamed it the Disney land airport! It's never been busy when I've been here and they have a few bars and restaurants! Really what more does an airport need!

Medina K.

Yelp
Clean & Nice. Maybe the smallest airport I've been to in a while. My first stop was the restrooms and they were pretty clean and being maintained throughout the day.

Dani J.

Yelp
I am nostalgic to this airport. This is my favorite airport because it is so easy and I will go out of my way to go here over LAX. It's nice and small and not overwhelming. What an ideal airport near a major city. Yeah these aren't great, but this is on. There's not a crazy amount of shopping or anything too fancy but that's not the kind of stuff I want in an airport. I want to get where I'm going and people be nice to me and you will get here.

Sandy B.

Yelp
I love this airport. So I'm going to share some of the reasons. They have 3 terminals. A,B, and C. This is a "shotgun" terminal. (If you can say it for a kitchen, I should be able to say it here. They all connect. And it is just as easy to walk it on the public side as it is on the secure side. I prefer walking on the secure side. Typically not as crowded and people seem a little more relaxed. The hard part is done, after all. Now, I have entered tsa prescreen through all gates. Granted, there are a lot more variables to be considered. I typically come on a week day between the hours of 0600-0800. I have found that B terminal has the longest lines. Not that it takes very long. They still do a good job with it. But terminal A by far, was the fastest with Nobody in front of me. Hoorah! Even though they have a small AA presence, they still have an admirals lounge! Score. If you wanna clean bathroom without a line, and you have time, stroll down to gate 1A, B, C and take the elevator downstairs. You'll find that it is seldom used. They have quite a few cute restaurants in bars. Lots of seating arranged around the windows so you can look out and watch the planes, takeoff and land. A piano for the public to play and there are some lots of great talent around here. To include the pilot that's currently playing.

Erick W.

Yelp
Fast, close, convenient and quick in/out for Disney. It was clean and easy to meneuver. We flew Southwest and even sitting in the back of the plane (longer to off-board), we got to baggage claim and to the curb for our car service within minutes. The drive over to Disney's Grand Californian took just a short bit and from touch down to arrival at the resort was under an hour! Quicker (and cheaper car service by over $100) to Disney than LAX.

Tammy M.

Yelp
Small airport, 3 terminals, 5 minutes wait thru security (TSA Pre ) and generally hard landings due to short runways. Variety of food & drink options.

Jamie S.

Yelp
This is the cutest little Cali airport! It's so easy to get around and get through TSA fast. I was surprised there wasn't some kind of Disney store inside though for last minute purchases!

Sarah O.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this airport. Every Disneyland visit we make sure to fly into the John Wayne airport. It is significantly less chaotic and crowded than LAX. Always clean, security run smoothly, and there are quite a few choices for coffees and food. We visited the USO a few times and they're always very accommodating and helpful. This past trip, we traveled with our 2 1/2 month old and I utilize the nursing room that was available near our gate. The facilities were very and comfortable. It is worth the extra money for the ease and cleanliness this airport has to offer.

Grace T.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite airports. There is curbside baggage check in. We don't have to lug our luggage into the airport itself. It is fantastic. Even without pre TSA check. We were done in a decent amount of time. To top it off, we had a super friendly guy at the customs area who checked out boarding passes and documents. Love it!!!

Monisha R.

Yelp
Perfect except for TSA. Convenient, smaller than LAX good for short buisness trip flights. Would consider SNA again. Waiting for LAX to get their s*it together. No more construction!

Lynnann W.

Yelp
Have three decades of experience with this airport. It has always been a pleasure regardless of departing, arriving or picking up visitors. Exceptionally well maintained, managed well with appropriate manpower for time of day and always feel safe. TSA moves quickly and there are plenty of options for refreshments while you wait for a flight. If arriving; have never experienced a problem with baggage claim and their taxi service area runs like a well oiled machine with very fair pricing. What's not to love?!

For not being a major airport, John Wayne airport has direct flights to all the hubs of all the major US airlines and would be the one to take for Orange County residents/visitors. It consists of 3 "terminals" but I would use that loosely since they are all located close together one after the other (e.g. if someone says to pick them up at Terminal B, you would spot them from your car as you got close). As expected, it is a lot easier to drop somebody off and/or pick them up from here vs LAX, but not quite as easy as Long Beach Airport. The IATA code of SNA, was derived from being located in the city of SaNta Ana and was called the Orange County airport until 1979, when it was renamed in honor of the late actor, John Wayne. Its airport code remained SNA (not JWA)...these codes can change with an airport renaming, with JFK being an example. So this was the one time where the price of an outbound ticket to Chicago was cheaper from SNA than LAX, so dropped off on a Wednesday late morning. Only American and United have lounges here (Delta does not). As described by others, it is similar to LAX in that all the terminals are encircling one loop so traffic to all terminals must enter from the same place, and people park where-ever they can to drop off. I didn't see any officers directing traffic so it must never get too bad here. Once dropped off, it took only a couple of minutes to go around the circle, and the 405 is a quick ramp to get on (though one needs to follow the signs closely to be in the right lane). Per my wife, it was never so easy to drop off checked bags and every seat in the terminal had power outlets to charge your phone. Nice!

Yelp
Best California airport as the security lines move exceptionally fast especially TSA pre-check! Direct flights to ORD and other major airports is a plus too. Many food options at the gates and the airport is well maintained and clean too. Baggage claim isn't too long but still better to always carry-on unless you have do check-in for whatever reason. Rental cars are located across the way to the parking garage so conveniently located. Plenty of room to easily be picked up by friends and family while ride share is on the top level of the parking garage. Always fly into SNA to visit the OC and avoid LAX if at all possible.

Yelp
Just under 10 hours since I left my house, flew to Denver and was delayed there was finally glad to have made it here. The first thing I noticed is how clean this airport is. Also it is so much smaller than the major airport of LAX. We arrived in terminal C-reviewed separately was an easy walk to baggage claim and got our luggage fairly quickly! I was SO glad it made it. With all the delay in Denver I was wondering if it would make it. We used John Wayne as our starting point for our return flight. We didn't have to wait long to check in. Waiting for TSA didn't take much time. Boarded at almost the same spot we landed. Didn't have to wait long to take off either. Most of the food is near the TSA stations but you can definitely get water if you need it. Since Disneyland was my destination stop I was glad that it was only about a half hour drive to get there. Highly recommend this airport to get away from the hustle and bustle of LAX.

Yelp
John Wayne is a small airport that packs a big punch. Mt favorite "feature" is the airport staff...the absolute most nicest people. Each time I fly into JW I manage to get turned around. The staff is personable, patient, accommodating, offers to walk you to your desired destination, etc. The food court options are great, given the bedroom community sized airport. Whenever I have business in So Cal I would always fly into LAX. Now I love if my business is on Orange County; JW airport has a nice, non rush traffic vibe that I enjoy after deplaning. Keep up the great work, team!
