I grew up loving The Split T, where Johnny used to work, and later Johnnies. For years it seemed like everybody, including me, copied their menu. I even used the same local meat company, Club House, that was run by a great couple. I once ask them what made their patties so much better than other vendors. They told me their patty making machine didn't over press the meat which allowed it to be tender and also the cuts of beef they used. I only mention this because the patty I had was more like cardboard than a flavorful beef patty. I don't know if the guy on the charbroiler over cooked it, didn't flip it at the right time or just pressed all the juice and flavor out of it with his spatula. The onion rings were great as always. The remodel was well done. Closing for months during the rebuilding of Britton Rd had to be hard for them and I hope they can train up the new crews to their old quality.
They added a cocktail lounge with a patio and also connected to one of the meeting rooms. We didn't have drinks but the menu has an impressive selection of local craft brews. I love the design and decor with a large bar and cozy seating pods. I will be going back and giving it a try soon. With so many new hamburger choice in OKC, I hope they can get a handle on quality soon.
