This was our first trip to this quaint town and what a gem this restaurant turned out to be. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and the cozy atmosphere at the bar. The food was good as were the prices. We really enjoyed this place and will go back if ever in this area again.

We were in Montoursville to do some shopping for a home project. We got hungry and decided to find something “downtown.” This was a great find!! The atmosphere around the bar felt really comfortable and cool. There was a group of people doing a pub crawl for St. Patrick’s day that added some levity. It was fun! The food was good; better than expected. I had a cheesesteak sub. My wife had a salad and soup. They were also very good. We will most definitely come back next chance we get!

Google
New Chef and food was very good. The cheesesteak my Granddaughter loved and my daughter and I had the portobello sandwich was excellent. Go check them out. Too hot to sit outside but sat in the other room that had booths and air conditioning. Check it out.

My family went for Easter dinner. Service was very friendly & helpful. All the entree selections were all very tasty. Had a very fine time. Two years later: We celebrated my mother's 92nd birthday on the patio. Very nice for outside dining. Lots of delicious options to choose from. Service is still very friendly & helpful.

Always good food and service. Whenever I am in from Colorado my sister Deb Moff Trate and I enjoy a meal here. Patty Hackman

1st time here, it was very nice. The food and service were excellent. Made reservations to return for my graduation dinner with family in a few months. We had the steakhouse chips and garlic mussels as an appetizer, and the Antipasto salad(special for the week, is how an antipasto salad should be), and the coffee rubbed pork chop. And creme brulee for dessert.

Along with a regular menu, Johnson's had four different vegan options. I had the Italian sausage sandwich, perfectly prepared on a fresh house-baked roll. I wanted mine mild, and that was how it came. If you want spicy, they'll put spicy peppers on it. Spouse had the vegan meatball hoagie and it was excellent. French fries came out hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside just like they're supposed to. The next time we are in The Williamsport area we will eat there again.

Second time eating at Johnson’s Cafe, the waitress was very nice & did a well job! Ordered the bbq chicken nachos & I believe the bistro salad..very good! :) I liked the fries in the salad!

Yelp
A nice spot in Montoursville. Went here a few weeks ago, wasn't too busy the day after a holiday. Staff was very friendly and service was good. They have a cool bar area with a bench. In my opinion, the menu is limited but maybe it's something that changes. I had the Santa Fe Cobb Salad. I did not like it at all, big chunks of cold carnitas. Dressing was off too. I would not order it again. Prices are reasonable. I would definitely go back though and try something else.

Yelp
Nice space, friendly staff, big bar, I need 85 characters to post this good grief, how many more is that?

Holly B.

Yelp
Our immediate family gathered in our hometown for our youngest sister's burial at Wildwood. We chose Johnson's for our meal. What a charming place, a locals favorite, no doubt. Very comforting ambiance. My cabbage rolls were delicious, along with the scalloped potatoes. Very legit and not too much rice rather than beef in the rolls. I wish I would've gotten the roasted veggies; I hardly ate mine. Mike liked his stuffed pork chop meal and my sister enjoyed her fish dinner. Service was good and fast, not that we were rushed. Would go again!

Michele D.

Yelp
I ordered a Santa Fe Cobb salad. it was not a cob salad, the menu described it as having pork carnitas but the pork was unseasoned, greasy meat. I am not a picky eater but I could not eat more than a few bites. The waitress never even asked me what was wrong when she picked up my full plate. She was young so maybe she was new at serving and I didn't want to hassle her so I didn't say anything. I wish I had.

Donna C.

Yelp
I just had lunch at Johnson's café. I've eaten there before and I've always enjoyed my meal. If you like things a little spicy they're spicy chicken sandwich with crispy fries is awesome. I highly recommend it. We ate outside in the back. It was a beautiful day and our server was amazingly friendly. Definitely the place to go for a good meal

Yelp
I would give 3.5 stars if I could. My 3 siblings & I ate here yesterday & when I think of a "cafe", I don't expect entrees like this. Most of the meals were good. My Seared Sesame Tuna Steak was delicious! No complaints at all. However, there were some issues: My brother's sweet potatoes were cold & had to be taken back for reheating. Thankfully, they were in a separate bowl, so he could still enjoy the rest of his meal while they heated them. Now for the major problems with the meal served to one of my sisters: The description from Johnson's Facebook page reads: "Filet and Shrimp Scampi-Petite filet mignon lightly marinated in butter and garlic, flame grilled and served with shrimp broiled in butter and garlic, and a side of angel hair pasta." What she really got: 1) The steak was a filet mignon wanna-be. It had too much gristle to be authentic. 2) The pasta was spaghetti, not angel hair & did not have butter on it. 3) There was a smaller portion of shrimp than what they show on their Facebook page. My sister wouldn't place any complaints. She was traveling back to VA after our meal and probably didn't want to wait for a replacement. I have posted both her meal and the one they posted on their Facebook page to show the differences that are apparent to the eye. Of course, you'll have to take my word for it about the meat. The waitress was very attentive w/o being a pest. We were very happy with her service and her demeanor. Look up the history of this restaurant. It's very interesting. It's been in existence for over 60 years. That's saying something when a pandemic happened a few years ago and it had to shut its doors for a time.

David F.

Yelp
My family and some friends went to Johnson's for new years. The portions were small for the price. I could have gotten a TV dinner from the grocery store for much less, and it was basically the same thing. I tipped the waiter cash in advance but apparently she didn't think it was enough because they also added "gratuity" to the bill. Then the waitress argued with my mom about the tip and said "13% wasn't enough" and it should have been 20% and that's why they added gratuity charge to the bill. This is why I don't eat at restaurants much, and I definitely won't go back to Johnson's.

Timothy H.

Yelp
A wonderful restaurant with a large menu, great weekly specials, and a nice selection of craft beers on their rotating taps. I've tried many items on their menu and all have been great. Most recently the meatloaf--spectacular!

Julie A.

Yelp
Delicious, American fare. Small inside, cozy atmosphere with tables reasonably spaced apart. There is a bar located behind the restaurant seating area which is located right when you walk in the front door. I noticed on my way back to the restroom that the restaurant offers a back room that fits long banquet tables.

Joel H.

Yelp
Was looking for a diner that I've never been to and decided on this. Was amazed with everything. The service, food, cleanliness and size.(it's ALOT bigger inside than it looks from the outside. One of the best breakfast I've ever had. Food was absolutely delicious.

Jerald R.

Yelp
We are from out of town, and wanted a nice sit down dinner. I ordered the Homestyle Chicken and Biscuits. My wife ordered the turkey dinner. We started with salads, which were okay, and her meal was fair, similar to a TV dinner in quality . The chicken and biscuits, however, was inedible. The dish consisted of a large lump of dense biscuit in the middle of a very basic pot pie filling. The chicken was stringy, the peas were hard, like pebbles, and the broth completely bland. I picked out the chicken as best I could, but the peas were dominant. Considering the prices charged here, one would expect better quality. This would have been a one star review if not for the awesome wait staff. Thanks to the nice waitress who helped us.

Mel B.

Yelp
This place has been around for years. Always great to come home to the place you went to in high school over 20yrs ago and it's still around. Server was very polite. Refilled my drink when ever it got low and was on top of bringing out our food right when it was ready. Prices are perfect! Inexpensive for a local small restaurant! Better than any fast food!

Kristen S.

Yelp
This little gem of a restaurant turned out to be a great find. We were looking for somewhere to celebrate our son's birthday (he's attending college nearby) and decided to take a chance based on all the good Yelp reviews. Johnson's Cafe did not disappoint! First of all, the menu is extensive. From coffee rubbed pork chops (outstanding!) to burgers and salads, this place has a lot to offer. Service was good, and the food was delicious and fresh. We all loved our meals and would definitely revisit on our next trip to the area. Johnson's is clearly a local favorite, and though we didn't hang out at the bar, we were told they have a great selection of beers.

Thomas I.

Yelp
Visiting town for work. First time here, nice, cozy spot. Cobb Salad was huge, delicious, fresh and great value. Waitress was great and helped me get in and out quickly. Wish I had more time to linger!

Amber B.

Yelp
Walked into the restaurant yesterday asked for a cusher seat due to have a hemrroidhectomy last week and I was told by some guy that these are the seats and this is what you get. It was a man in grey casual work clothes I believe and I know it wasn't a waitress. I have been going to this place for a long time and was very happy. As of yesterday I will no longer visit this establishment and will not recommend this to anyone. What ever happen to courtesy in a restaurant? How about instead of saying what he said you can say I'm sorry but these are the only seats we have.

Kay H.

Yelp
First time eating here while in town visiting friends. I had the vegan sausage vegetable sauté with vegan mozzarella cheese. It was so tasty. My husband had the veggie burger and fries. Also very good. We will definitely be back when we're in town again.

Jon K.

Yelp
Fantastic handcrafted food with regular specials and huge wings! The perfect environment for a group dinner or a quiet night out. So much variety that it never gets old! You will not be disappointed! In years of frequenting this casual atmosphere with fine-dining quality food we have never been disappointed. Excellent beer selection with constantly rotating selection of fine beers. Full bar.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Amazing salads; a lot of quality ingredients with house made dressing. Went to pier 87 yesterday for a salad and they should stop by a get a lesson. Super fast service cool interior. Will be back.

Brittany S.

Yelp
Driving from Toronto to Philly and stopped by for lunch since they had the largest salad selection of anywhere in the area. Let me tell you, this place was awesome. The salads were fresh and well prepared. Also, if you have time, visit the bakery across the street after!

R K A.

Yelp
Best salads in town! Salads are large and plenty. Always accommodating with changes to dishes. I just had the special- blue blue salad! And it was better than I thought! Great combination of salad blueberries, pecans , chicken , apples and more! The value is great as well as service. Love Johnson's ! It's our go to restaurant now.

Joyce S.

Yelp
Steak was asked for extra well and they brought it out three times and then when it was bearable to eat the mashed potatoes were cold. Now why would they not warm them up after all that. Then they charged for the whole meal and I told them the potatoes were cold. Really bad experience. I will not be going back again. I was not impressed with the service at all. The one time they brought it out a fly landed on the steak and they still served it. So gross!

Zee J.

Yelp
I had the fried Haddock in this small town near Williamsport, PA and near the West Branch Susquehanna river. It was a Saturday evening and the place was packed to the rafters and loud. It came with French fries, coleslaw, some vegetables and a small roll. It was very good I thought. Although this is a bar the food is quite sophisticated. Not sure how many bars would put gluten free raviolis on their menu. Requesting medium well or well done steaks is apparently not done here as the menu will try to make clear to you. Recommended.

Lisa S.

Yelp
A step above diner. I had the gluten free chicken kale raviolis with a salad and GF warm roll. Yum! Husband had the roast turkey dinner with stuffing and mash potatoes. He was offered salad or applesauce but passed. Large portions good food and friendly staff. Clean bathroom! We are traveling from NY to FL and was skimming Yelp for something other than a chain.. Well worth it!

Lindsey A.

Yelp
We had a wonderful surprise 70th birthday party for our Dad at Johnson's cafe. The owner was very helpful with menu and party planning. The private room set-up was classy and accommodated 30 people easily. The food was delicious especially the wings and bacon wrapped shrimp! The servers Rae and Tiffany were extremely attentive and were great with our kids. We will be back!

Eric B.

Yelp
Have to say, value seems to be going down here. Several visits now and each seems to get worse and worse. My wife and I started off with soups. She got broccoli-cheddar, which was good at best and the soup was barley warm. I got the clam chowder, which was pretty good, I've had some better and a bunch worse, but it was SCALDING hot! My wife got the turkey wrap, it was good and sizable for the money. I got the fish sandwich, a little pricy at $13. It was good. When I placed the order I was asked for a side, thinking it came with one, I ordered fries, ended up seeing the charge for them on the bill. Really, a charge for a single side with the meal???? Drinks, just got unsweetened tea and a raspberry tea for me. Turned out, MY tea only came with ONE refill, a 3rd drink cost me an additional charge. Quality seems to be dipping here at each visit and you get nickel and dimed in the process. It's gonna be a while until I return.

Erin Y.

Yelp
Cozy small little spot, just stopped in here for lunch on a road trip. Great service, seemed very attentive to cleanliness and appropriate safety measures. We got a few things, some of it ok and some great! Loved the spicy chicken sandwich and onion rings!

Pollyanna B.

Yelp
I've been here countless times throughout the years. Food is great. I've only had one bad experience here. On my most recent visit it was Valentine's day and they have a special for that weekend. Selections are awesome. However, not sure if the food was ready before the server was available because the food was lukewarm at best. Taste was good, just not very hot. We were also seated just inside the door. I do not recommend this location. Since you are greeted and need to stand there until a table is cleared, it was not a treat to have people standing right at our table as we were trying to enjoy our meal. Best bet is to call ahead for reservations and don't think you're just going to swing by on a special weekend and be seated right away. This place has a great reputation and fills up quickly. I definitely recommend you stop in. I'm taking this past experience in stride and it will not stop future visits!

Gordon G.

Yelp
Holy Grail??? I'm always searching for the "best" hamburger & have had some really great ones, but Johnson's Bacon Jam Burger is one of the best I've ever had. The 1/2 lb. burger was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, squashed, not formed with seared edges and juicy, pink middle. Perfectly seasoned for great burger flavor. The "bacon jam" was a uniquely delicious sweet counterpoint to the savory bacon strips and tangy blue cheese. I didn't even put ketchup on. A first for me.

Edward R.

Yelp
Locals who stopped here for lunch. Nice selection of salads. I had the fajita chicken salad and my wife had the chicken cranberry walnut salad with poppy seed dressing. Both very good. Will stop here again.

Kim M.

Yelp
The jalapaño cheddar tots with sriracha dipping sauce are really good! The burgers are also really good! (build your own). Bacon wrapped shrimp were just OK. Bacon was a little soggy. But overall, a great place! So many different kinds of beers - too many to count!!!

Courtney S.

Yelp
This place has the best apps I like that you can go inside and outside. The staff is very friendly. The good is great I had a great meal here. thank you very much!!!!!

Scott H.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. I had grilled Haddock with onions and bacon with sweet potato fries and steamed vegetables with a salad. Service was exellent

Liz M.

Yelp
We are swinging through the area and this was recommended by the hotel. Amazing!!! The service was great, friendly atmosphere, and perfect food. I would go back here in a heartbeat and would recommend Johnson's to anyone. Had a big variety of food and great beer selection!

Thomas E.

Yelp
Super friendly staff but the steak was as bad as I've ever had. No seasoning, cooked over the finest gas flame and more gristle than meat. The sides were also bad. Cold rolls, tasteless garlic potatoes. I have low standards but a $30 steak should have a little flavor.

Mark S.

Yelp
Absolutely worst experience with a "restaurant" that I have ever had. The beer was over priced the service was downright awful and very slow. The food came out and literally everything about it was just the saddest excuse for such a hyped up restaurant....everything was cold the mashed potatoes were not mashed at all the gravy was flavorless the chicken was over cooked and dry and the waffles were super soft....needless to say I would never recommend a place with that bad of an experience to anybody

Melissa N.

Yelp
A great place to eat. The salads are delightful, the sandwiches are amazing, and the servers are hospitable and competent.

Brandon Z.

Yelp
I've had a few dinners here, and everything was absolutely delicious. They have different specials, but I really enjoy their Italian specials that they have every Saturday Night. Their Seafood Alfredo is the best Seafood Alfredo that I've ever had, and ranks among my favorite Pasta dishes and meals in general. The atmosphere is nice, it's like a little hole in the wall place that actually has a lot of room. However, I did notice that if you're in the backroom the acoustics of the place is really weird, making it difficult to hear the people around you, and if there's a big party in a thinly walled off section it can be a bit obnoxious. Still, I was amazingly impressed by all of the food I've had here, and I would definitely recommend it.

Eric S.

Yelp
Fantastic wings at a family style restaurant. Be sure to get the homemade red blue cheese dressing for wings or salads. When the weather is nice, enjoy a meal and drink on the back patio.

The F.

Yelp
Johnson's has never failed to impress. Always full of diners and very flavorful food. The product is consistent and the staff is friendly and patient. Lunch and dinner menus are equally good. Great place for a date, anniversary, or any special event. While the food does not necessarily stand out as amazing, it is prepared with skill and the menu is accessible with a variety of proteins and pastas so everyone can find something and be happy with their selection.

Erik N.

Yelp
Stopped here on a Sunday night passing through town. Service was a little slow to start as the place was packed - probably more than expected. Our server did a good job explaining that there was a fundraiser promotion that was open ended and that the place was crowded because of it and it wasn't a typical Sunday night. He also did a good job working through the menu and guiding suggestions. Food was fantastic. Shrimp Mac & Cheese, Ham & Cheese on a Pretzel Roll and a couple of kids items. My 3 year old was in a talkative mood and the server did a really good job talking with her, which is always nice as it made her feel special as well. All in all a really good stop once it got moving. Set us back a little bit on our schedule but glad I stopped and it's a place I've shared with family & friends in the area.

Kim W.

Yelp
A frequent go to favorite! Large menu offers something for everyone. Staff is responsive and professional. A local favorite, always sure to see friends while dining. My personal favorite is their broiled haddock, my daughter loves their tuna steak, my son prefers their spicy grilled chicken, and my better half mixes it up routinely. You can't go wrong whether looking for a casual meal or special night out.

Susan F.

Yelp
Have never had a bad meal here yet. Patio is very nice in the summer. Service is always fast and courteous. Tried the steamed mussel appetizer last time and they were so good we ordered a second. Yummmmmmmm.

Justin W.

Yelp
2 dinners and 4 drinks for my girlfriend and I with 20% tip was $72. There are many better ways to spend 72$. I got medium rare Ahi Tuna. The fish came out cold, but still tasted ok. I was also charged .50 cents for salad dressing. Not sure what that was about. She got the Horseradish & Parmesan Encrusted Salmon. Also cold, dry and pretty boring. I would go back for drinks and sandwiches, but not for an entree. I beer menu was extensive.

Craig S.

Yelp
When going to Johnson's Cafe we found the price of food for the amount of food you get is poor. Also the food is lackluster in flavor. With this all said it is a quaint place.

L M.

Yelp
We recently moved to PA and have been in search of good restaurants. A colleague from work said this was the place to go. My family and I stopped in on a Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find our first good restaurant! We will definitely be visiting again.

Sarah W.

Yelp
Johnson's is a local favorite and has been for many years. I've had so many people tell me about the wonderful food and service but somehow I always seem to get the short end of the stick. I ate here about 5-6 years ago and the messed up my order and the server at the time was rude. But, I decided to give Johnson's another chance and I still wasn't impressed. I ordered a cup of the clam chowder, which I was told is one of the best in the area, but mine came out lukewarm and the potatoes in it were straight up cold. I also ordered the chicken cesar and salad itself was good but the presentation was extremely strange. It was almost as if they went the route of deconstruction because the romaine heart was cut in half with some slices of toasted French bread and the grilled chicken on top. My mom had the mahi mahi sandwich which she said was very good. The saving grace was the creme brulee because it was probably the best thing I've ever had here. The service wasn't great either. Our server forgot my drink order, which was water, and my order of creme brulee so my mom and I just shared. To be honest they looked understaffed so maybe that's why she was so forgetful. Overall, I back to letting other people spend their money here but I'm just going to pass.

Mel F.

Yelp
Never again! My husband and I went there for lunch. The food was just frozen crap...the so-called "hand-breaded" fish sandwich was obviously frozen, greasy and over cooked, served on grocery store bread (and there's a bakery across the street)...We would have mentioned the quality of food to the waitress, but she never checked back with our table. Apparently, the service is crap too. We had to ask for our bill, then had to hunt the waitress down to pay (she was busy talking to other employees behind the bar). I'm a local here and I love to try new places. This was by far the worst in years.

Tim D.

Yelp
Good food; slow service; wonderful outdoor seating area in the warmer weather. Some very tasty menu choices; try the bay scallops especially. Service seems to be very slow sometimes... not sure if they simply understaff the wait staff, or if slow is just the culture here, but have found myself having to hunt down our waitress quite often. Overall a good place.
