Johnson's Family Grill

Not your typical Neighborhood Grill (and I mean that in the best way possible). This place is a small Family operated restaurant that has the freshest of everything! I had the jumbo hotdog and fries. I noticed that the fries were crispy and very fresh and deep fried and fresh oil. The hotdogs had the typical mustard, slaw, chili and onions. MAGNIFICENT!!! Sometimes, simple is best. We sampled the fried okra and broccoli and cheese bites both were amazing. I had to personally tell the CHEF that everything was delicious. The service was fast and friendly. Places like this is what, in my opinion, keeps the world turning! If you are ever close by, stop in and enjoy!

This is a cute little diner that has great food!! I had the club sandwich ( fresh ingredients and so good) sister had the hotdog (no chili but lots of onions yummy) we shared a basket of homemade chips. Fresh, warm, crunchy and so good. Will definition go back and try something else. Friendly staff, greeted us and said thanks for coming in.

Definitely a hole in the wall, but you gotta try it. Everything we ordered was amazing and the serving size was big. There was not one complaint from any one at my table. The staff was friendly and quick to check on us for refills of our beverages. I really enjoyed my cheeseburger. Give it a try if you enjoy small Mom and Pop places.

Awesome little grille. We had the Johnson Jr burger and club sandwich with onion rings. The burger and onion rings (battered, not breaded 👍) were very good. But it was the club sandwich that compelled me to write this review. The ham and turkey were FAR superior to the processed lunch meat usually found in club sandwiches. There was no need to add the usual middle slice of toast to plump this sandwich up like other diners.

We stopped and experienced quick, friendly service and good food that doesn’t break the bank. Daily specials, assortment of food and desserts. If you need a quick stop and fast service with a little something for everyone, try it.

I’ve been going here since I was little and this place never disappoints. Get your food here and you’ll be well served and wanting more. Now every time I come back to town I make sure to order something from here it’s literally the best spot for food in Madison

Very delicious hot fresh food! Also tried fried green tomatoes for the first time and am now a fan! Definitely recommend this place!

Food was great, Carolina burger was perfect, not all sloppy like some places. Even ordered something to take home to my grandmother, it was so good!

Food was Great. Made to order and came out Hot. Waitress was Fantastic. Place has a Great atmosphere. Definitely glad we stopped here after a trip to Mayodan. We will be talking about it for a while.

The hours stated open. On a Thursday at noon. Pulled up. Peered in the window no one is home. Would have loved to have left a real review. But hey, we were there and you weren't so this is all we can say.

Johnson's Family Grill is a hidden gem in Madison! To the locals, it's not so hidden as droves of people enjoy eating their for lunch and supper! They have great food and great prices and they make you feel at home when you walk in the door. If you need anything, just holler and they are sure to make sure your service is unparalleled! The place may seem small, but don't let it fool you...it's full of good food, nice people, and lots of laughter!

Wow!!! Ate at this place for the first time. It is definitely a hidden gem in Madison. Wanted to try something different locally and came across this place. It did not disappoint. The bubba dog was out of this world. 1/4 lb all beef hot dog, tots and drink for $6.50. I was full off the hot dog alone. Wife grabbed the grilled chicken sandwich and said it was delicious. We also tried to the taco fries which is delicious with their chili to top it off. Last but not least we got the brownie sundae and was plenty enough to share with my wife. Everything was absolutely delicious. Will definitely go back to this local hidden gem that is less than 3 minutes from the house!!!

Had the special, a Philly cheesesteak and fries. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. My friend had one of their award winning hotdogs and hot chips and said it was great. We were out the door for $16 for both of us and both had fountain drinks. It's definitely not aesthetically something to rave about but the food was delicious. If I'd been paying attention I'd have asked for American instead of Swiss on my sandwich but I love all cheese so it was still delicious.

The hot dogs here are $1.60, and the chili is top notch, matched in every way by the wiener, a bit of a snap to it. The only down side was the bun - several days passed it "serve by" date. With a fresh, soft bun this is easily a 4 star hot dog, maybe even higher. Small place, next to a convenience store, everything in the general area showing its age, and a bit of neglect! Some inside seating, but the general state of the overall ambiance strongly suggests takeout. Guy behind the counter is quick and friendly. Gotta figure out a way to go back and score a fresh bun!

Always great food. Family business which is always a priority to support. I'd recommend the philly and the fried pickles!

I stopped in again for lunch, and decided to bump them up to 5 stars. Johnson's is truly a "hole in the wall", but that is part of the charm. There's just something about this place. I think it is two things. First, the food is excellent. It is clearly fresh and cooked to order. The hotdogs, which Johnson's boasts are award winning, are truly outstanding. The hot dog chili is unexcelled. Secondly, the staff is incredibly kind, cheerful, and accommodating. It all boils down to the fact that they take a personal interest in their customers and the quality of the product they make. And it shows.

This establishment is attached to a gas station, so don't be expecting some sort of fine dining experience. However, if what you're looking for is some good food at a fair price, then this is a good place to go. If you like hot dogs, you should try the "Bubba Dog". It's really good and fills you up. My kids really like the "Bubba Burger". The staff has always been prompt and friendly. If "grill good" is what you're in the mood for, you should give Johnson's a try.

In a road trip and stopped in for a quick lunch. Excellent burger and hot dog. Friendly and conscientious employees! And enjoyed a piece of home made fudge.

Hole in the wall?? Yes. Hot dogs are awesome! Worth the time. Will probably visit at least twice a week! The fried pickles are out of this world!

Update... Now a month later than the initial hotdog review, this one is for the Johnson Burger. I've had a lot of burgers over the years, some great and some not so much. The Johnson burger is as good as a hamburger can get. ***** stars all the way! No gimmicky sauces, just a great tasting Angus beef meat patty, not over cooked. Toasted bun with crisp lettuce and tasty tomato. An solid slice of sweet tasting onion, some mustard and mayo and cheese. Messy, but finger licking good! The fries are the same, done right, golden and crispy all the way through. Seriously, this is the way a hamburger should taste.

Super great hot dogs! The hot dog itself is juicy and "snaps" when you bite into it! The chili has a bit of heat to it and is scrumptious. Although I've seen the sign in their window saying they have the best hot dogs, it wasn't until this week I finally tried them. Been back every day since to get more! Yum! Service is fast and friendly too!!
