On the Grid : Jonestown

"This is the place Bethnal Green needed for his young and creative population. Jonestown refurbished an empty corner of an old building into a colorful coffee shop where the locals quickly started hanging out. Good vibe, good music and a friendly staff, Jonestown is this kind of places that makes you happy. The coffee is excellent (Single origin coffee from Papua New Guinea) and their cakes are delicious. Many people come here to work during the day, enjoying the free wi-fi and great beverages." - Mélanie Hubert-Crozet

Johnstown Castle is a great place to spend time with family. We spent over three hours there and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The entry fee was reasonable, especially considering the variety of attractions. There’s plenty to see and do, with lots of interesting history—perfect for both adults and children. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We’ll definitely return someday. Highly recommended!

Beautiful gardens with lakes and wild life. Excellent cafe. The best lemon drizzle cake I have ever had anywhere. Lovely addition of interest in history of the Castle and miniature automobile displays. Highly recommended.

We had a really lovely day exploring Johnstown Castle and its gardens; it’s a truly beautiful place. The grounds are extensive and very well-kept, making it a fantastic walking area with lovely paths around the lakes and through the woods. The absolute highlight for us was the huge number of magnificent peacocks roaming freely. What makes the experience extra special is that you can buy a bag of seeds in the shop and feed them. The peacocks and other birds are quite tame and will happily eat from your hand, which was a real treat. Just a heads-up for visitors, you buy your entry tickets inside the main shop when you arrive. It’s a wonderful spot to spend a few hours, especially on a nice day. It just misses out on five stars for us, but we would still highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Cannot recommend this castle enough! Excellent tour guide I believe his name was Tony gave us a fantastic tour of a beautiful castle. The surrounding grounds are equally gorgeous. Cafe prices were fair and staff friendly. The story of the families who owned the castle really elevated the whole trip and gave life to the beautiful rooms and halls.

This is a really nice day out for a group of all ages. The tour of the castle was fun and informative - our guide was really good. There is a café and a gift shop plus there are a variety of events happening on the grounds during the summer - checkout the website for details about the dates and how to book them. The gardens and lakes are beautiful and there are walking trails as well.

Superbly restored castle and extensive grounds with cafe and gift shop. Definitely allow a full day to explore everything. Make sure you ask for Ciaran as your tour guide!

We spent many hours here last week, going through the museum, walking the grounds and had a bite to eat at the cafe. A wonderful place for a family day out. There were no tours of the castle happening on the day due to a wedding. Well worth a visit especially with good weather, encountered many swans, ducks and peacocks on our stroll.

Took a visit here when I was down in Wexford for a few days. Would highly recommend the guided tour. You can walk around the grounds for free but if you want to know about the history and how everything fits in, I’d recommend the tour. On the day we had the lovely Eileen showing us around & we were lucky in that apart from myself & my wife, no one else was on the tour with us.

Yelp
Wife wanted to visit some castles while we were in Ireland, and while this isn't really a castle, it's a home that has been built to look like a castle. Took the guided tour which was very nice, house is large and was the site of an agricultural college, there are some exhibits before the guided tour that you can go through that will give you a sense of the history of the area and what Irish farmers endured. Surrounded by beautiful grounds and gardens this trip is well worth 3 or 4 hours of your time. Gift shop and small cafe with reasonable prices and good food.

Yelp
Was a beautiful place in 2015 and it was even more beautiful in 2019. They totally improved the experience with new entry and dining facility. The grounds are even more impressive than I remember. Nice quiet place to visit and full of peacocks and swans

Yelp
We have visited here a few times, and enjoyed every minute of it. It's a great way to spend a few hours, whether it's taking a leisurely stroll through the gardens, having a picnic, or visiting the museum and cafe, there is sure to be something here for everyone. It's about 8 euros per car entry, and the parking is free-(Unless you want to visit the Agricultural Museum, then there is an additional charge). It is very family friendly as well and dogs are allowed, once they are on a leash. The only downside is, the castle is not open to the public.
