Jojo's Shave Ice

JoJo's Shave ice is a happening spot for good reason. The shave ice is great and they have plenty of options. The area has a cool vibe and JoJo's has friendly service. We ordered the Locals South Shore (pineapple and coconut with macadamia nut ice cream & haupia cream topping) and a Lilo and Stitch (blue and red raspberry with vanilla ice cream). We found a shady spot and enjoyed this stop very much. Other things to note: this place is popular, but worth it - there may be a line. This is not the first shave ice you get to when you arrive in Hanalei. We went to the other one first, but they closed in our face while we were in line and were not very nice about it. Next time, we will drive straight past it to JoJo's. There is a small parking lot behind the market and you may be lucky to find a space there. The bathrooms are a short walk away so you can wash your hands after shave ice.

Literally one of the best shaved ices I’ve ever had. Two of us shared a ‘berry berry’ and added coconut and it was incredible right after the beach. The macadamia ice cream was pretty good too

HUGE servings of shave ice. They have a WIDE array of flavors. I got coconut ice cream, also a humongous portion. Three big scoops. Macadamian nut ice cream at the bottom of the shave ice, was a refreshing twist to just normal shave ice. Absolutely love that the profits support such a wonderful organization!

In the competitive shave-ice landscape, there's no better stop than Jojos. Some places might be more internet-famous, but you'll never have more fun with the best shave ice than you will with this crew. The also crank them out with enthusiasm, so even a long line moves quickly here.

When in Hanalei most people end up at Jojos. Great shaved ice that sons long to come back and get another. Just to warn you the large is definitely big but tasty.

In my friend’s recommendations for Kauai he had in parentheses next to Jojo’s (always, anytime, never skip) and my review is just that! Always. Anytime. Never skip! Shave ice is to Hawaii as gelato is to Italy. It is always a must and should be partaken of at minimum once a day! I was a sucker for the coconut and the tropical breeze flavors as both have the macadamia nut ice cream and the Haupia cream which is quite simply the best! 🥥

I opted for the #2 Tropical Breeze Shave Ice, a glorious mound of frozen delight that combines guava, lilikoi, and mango flavors with a macadamia nut ice cream base and a luscious topping of haupia cream. It's a flavor combination that's pure 10/10--a delightful tropical symphony in every spoonful. Here's my sole critique: the sizes. JoJo's offers their shave ice in 28oz or 40oz servings, clearly designed for sharing. I shared the 28oz with my wife, and even then, it felt like a Herculean task to finish. A smaller size would be a game-changer for those of us who appreciate a bit of moderation in our indulgences. Personal problem? Perhaps. I digress. Despite the size dilemma, the Tropical Breeze lived up to its name, delivering a refreshing and delicious escape from the Hawaiian heat. If you're on Kauai's North Shore, JoJo's Shave Ice is a must-visit.

Tropical Breeze was delicious. The macadamia nuts in the ice cream added an extra oomph that really deepened the flavor profile. So good! The shave ices come in 2 sizes- the small one was actually big enough for the 2 of us to share. The coffee shave ice combo from the menu (forgot what it was called) wasn't as good as the coffee one from Wishing Well Shave Ice.

"If this was my first time trying shave ice I'd never order it again, anywhere" - Me. JoJo's has a few outposts on Kauai and, based on this visit, I'll be avoiding all of them, with ease, from here on. It wasn't the fact that they were very backed up and I had to wait (about 10 minutes) to place my order. No, it was the fact that what I was served tasted awful: Far too much ice, not very "shaved", not nearly enough syrup, and ice cream that (when I finally found it) tasted cheap. I wound up shoveling the ice down to a manageable level in search of flavors. Finding very little flavor, I wound up tossing the whole (overpriced) thing.

Super friendly service and so quick. We did the tropical breeze and did pineapple instead of mango. So good!

Great place! Prices are decent, flavors are good and the portions are more than enough. The macadamia nut ice cream is fabulous with the shaved ice, definitely recommend that! Their service was 4/5. Not great, but not bad. Don't recommend hopping in line if you're in a hurry. It took us about 30 minutes to get our two shaved ices and the line wasn't massive. Overall, good place! Looking forward to seeing how it stacks up to the others on the island.

The kid working the counter was very nice. The flavors we got were good but obviously very artificial. I enjoyed the amount of macadamia ice cream they put underneath the shave ice.

Lines are always long in Hanalei but worth it after a long day on the beach or after a hike. Service is fast and pleasant. Portions are generous and shave ice is delicious. Add Mac nut ice cream and treat yourself. Many areas to sit outside.

I recently stopped by JoJo's Shave Ice about an hour before closing and found quite a crowd already there, both ordering and waiting for their treats. I decided on a s'mores ice cream, thinking it would be a quick pick given the late hour. As I waited, I noticed a bit of chaos at the service window. It became clear that some orders, including mine, were being forgotten. A few customers approached the window to inquire about their long waits, and it appeared that the staff was overwhelmed. One worker even mentioned that sometimes they accidentally swipe away orders on their system and forget them. After a 20-minute wait for a simple dish of chocolate ice cream topped with graham cracker dust, marshmallow, and a bit of fudge, I was underwhelmed. The lengthy wait for something so straightforward was disappointing, and there wasn't anything particularly remarkable about the flavor or presentation to make the wait worthwhile. In summary, my experience at JoJo's Shave Ice didn't live up to the hype, and the service issues added frustration to the visit. While the place may be popular, the quality and service I encountered were less than impressive.

For sure my favorite shave ice of the trip, and we made a point to have one everyday. Nothing to fancy or organic, but great flavor and texture. Exactly what a shave ice should be.

Excellent root beer float shave ice. As good as any island I've been on. My wife got the Kona Coffee Sundae. Nothing fancy- Coffee ice cream, mac nuts, and chocolate sauce. When you have great ingredients, it doesn't have to be fancy. Amazing! I'm guessing Lappert's ice cream. Took a little while to be waited on, but our orders came out quicker than expected.

The best shave ice on the island! The service is good. Today was a little busier than usual. (Can't say anything about the ambiance because it's take out only.) It took us about 20 minutes to get our order of two DaKine (small) sized shave ice.

Love this place! Shave ice is huge. Great flavor, too! There usually is a long line but don't let that discourage you. It's worth the wait. Just find a bench to enjoy as it's outdoors.

Pretty good shave ice place in the heart of Hanalei. It wasn't our favorite one we have tried, but it was still a solid experience. I actually ordered the Haupia Sundae, and I really enjoyed it. I love the crunch of the macadamia nuts. We ordered several items and just had to wait a few minutes for our order.

I'm drooling and really sad because I'm back in California and very far from this place. There were a few locations in Kauai, and I'm impressed with myself for going to two different locations. My goal was to go to one for sure! Bucket list- check! The snow cones were awesome. They have a bunch of different flavors. They also have ice cream and signature items. I didn't try them cause i wanted to stay classic. Service was good. Everyone was always very nice. I love the little shack vibe. Super cool! Can't wait to go back to Hawaii and get one.

Can't go to Hawaii and leave without a shave ice! Jojo's was pretty good! We got a berry berry in the smaller size they offer and it was a little too much for two people so you really get a good bang for your buck! Looking at these pictures I'm already craving another one. Be sure to get their in-house vanilla crème on whatever you order!

This little hole in the wall is incredible. It was a hot and humid day, 3 people were working in this stand and they were incredible. Friendly service, good recommendations, and it was ready super fast. They had plenty of seating nearby and we finally understood the hype around shaved ice. I don't remember the name to this one- but it was tropical fruit with macadamia nut ice cream. We loved it!

We waited so very long to get our shave ice. I don't know why there were so many people in this little area at that time. So there was that... But really my shave ice was quite good. The only reason I took a star off is because my partner's version had so many nuts in it I just felt it distracted from the shave ice. I mean we should've read the small print, but jeez... Still pretty good though.

Not a shave ice connoisseur by any means but this particular choice had a 'surprise' bottom--ice cream! So think best of both worlds, the ice cream and shave ice worlds coming together.

3 stars, as this is a mixed review. We ordered tropical breeze, and the colada one, with just Pina coloda and strawberry, no banana. Also, just a small bowl of just ice for our baby. Tropical breeze:5 star Super yummy and lots of good flavor in the syrups. Was jo expecting the macadamia nut ice cream under, as when I read reviews, I assumed it was by request. It was good, just a shock (glad we didn't have any nut allergies, since I didn't see that this was in all of them). The ice itself seems to be more snow coney, as it got pretty solid and was hard to eat later on, compared to other places I've had. Colada: inconclusive- they gave us 2 of the same thing. I normally would have gone back and had them remake the right one, but the line was long, my baby got fussy, so I said oh well, I'll juat eat what I didn't order, which was a disappointment. Ice for baby- 5 star, she loved it. Based on the one we did have, it was great, and i would say 4 stars (5 without the ice cream). The ice made my baby happy, bringing that up to 4.5. But not getting what I ordered and paid for, I drop it to 3 stars out of sadness. The macadamia ice cream didn't mix with it in my opinion, so I wish I'd have known so I could request none. I'm really sad i didn't get the one I ordered, since I've been wanting a colada but can't have one since I'm nursing my baby. Figured that would be the next best option. Oh well.

I ordered the #16 Locals North Shore. It was yummy and refreshing after a hike and snorkel nearby. JoJo's is popular so expect to wait but it's worth it.

First and only shave ice place we went to in Kauai, and it set the bar high. There were so many tropical flavors and toppings to pick from. Each order came piled high with ice and ingredients. The flavors were refreshingly sweet and delicious. There is some outdoor picnic tables for seating and it's located in a busy spot with shops around. Would definitely visit here again for a sweet treat.

Da Kine with vanilla icecream and tigers blood and condensed milk. And a Dakine with Macadamia Icecream and Lychee with condensed milk! Both with delicious! Service is great! Line moves pretty quickly!

If you're looking for a pick-me-up in Kauai, JoJo's Shaved Ice will definitely do the trick! They offer a variety of flavors to satisfy your sweet tooth. Rather than customizing our own, my family decided to share the Tropical Breeze, which consisted of Guava, Lilikoi, and Mango. The tropical flavors were spot on and the ice was the perfect consistency and texture. The employees were very friendly and patient with our questions. There was a lot of seating outside to enjoy as well.

Long line and long wait, but it was worth it. Got rained on too and good luck finding parking, we got there just as a car was leaving, and parking lot is tiny. lots of other shops and restaurants in the area full of patrons. Limited seating outside, but we managed to find a table after I got my order.

First time trying shaved ice in Hawaii! We got the #3 and the #6 and it was to die for! It has ice cream on the bottom as well! The macadamia ice cream on the bottom really makes it good! Service was fast and friendly. It's really refreshing after a day at the beach! Definitely a must try. :)

On every hawaiian island, there is a great shave ice place, all better than what I have eaten on the mainland. I did not try all the places on Kauai but this place is the best on my Kauai list so far. My family ordered #2 Tropical Breeze and I ordered #16 North Shore one. We ordered the large size. I loved the combination of my flavors with haupia cream on top and macadamia ice cream when you get to the bottom, yum. My family are big eaters, but if you are not, the Da'kine size will be good enough. The employees looked like they were proudly making them and they do look like masterpieces. When I was carrying it and walking to a bench to sit and eat, observers were so amazed at how large it was. There are chickens walking around but they tend to like to walk into the place next door. If you try anything on Kauai, I recommend getting shave ice from here. (At least it was the only "experience" we've spent on this island so far.)

Better than most shave ice with very tasty ice cream inside. Seating is adjacent to a busy parking lot so don't expect any views or ambience.

Best shave ice we had in Kauai! Ordered the Tropical Island. Really liked this flavor combo. It was refreshing and large enough for 2 of us to share. Syrup was not artificial tasting. The the ice cream in middle added an extra creaminess which was so delicious. They make their own syrups and use only pure cane sugar. Definitely recommend this on a hot day!

Wow! Amazing shave ice! We shared a Colada Special. Pina colada, strawbery colada, banana colada) with macadamia nut ice cream and homemade haupia cream topping. It was nighttime and raining when we went and there still was a line for this cold treat. There's a good reason why. JoJo's is awesome! We have some famous shave ice places back home on Oahu. JoJo's is tied for first place, making this a must try. Service is fast and friendly. There's lots of parking in the 2 private lots of Ching Young Village. Chill vibes and a relaxed atmosphere here and everywhere else on Kaua'i. Highly recommended.

My goodness is this place GOOD!!! We went back, maybe we will go a third time before we leave the island. We ordered the Colada Special, it's really tasty. Very fruity and the flavor soaks through the entire portion of ice. The colada special has pina colada, strawberry colada, and banana colada. They are all equally good flavors. Also just found out that they make all of their syrups with pure cane sugar, no artificial stuff. At the bottom there is a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream, so creamy and not overly sweet. Yum!! Both times we've gone around 7pm, an hour away from their closing time, and have had no line at all. The servers are all chill and work quickly. You can eat your shaved ice on any of the tables just outside their little booth. All tables are relatively clean. Really recommend it!

Ice wasn't finely shaved, it was thick and crunchy. More like a snow cone than Hawaiian shaved ice. Flavors were SO artificial that I couldn't even make out what they were, except the coconut which was the most palatable. Nothing was good about this. Such a tourist trap.

We got a snow cone with various flavors but all we can say is that the wait was long but the snow cone is just okay. We had one with tropical flavors and ice cream at the bottom but were disappointed with how sweet everything was -- so sweet that we weren't able to tell what the flavors were and we also couldn't finish the snow cone. We were just a bit disappointed with the snow cones here and probably wouldn't rerun for that reason.

When coming to the northern side of Kauai, getting shave ice at JoJo's is a MUST! We have frequented this fab place three times and they never disappoint. The staff is super friendly, chatty and make you feel welcome. JoJos serves perfectly packed ice and even the small is quite large. Their flavor options are plentiful. The fact that one of the cashiers actually remembered that we had been here a couple of days ago was the snow cap on top. Patio tables are nearby to sit and enjoy in the outdoor mall as well as bar-type seating out front or take it and go to enjoy. Parking can be tricky but there is plenty around. To get your Shave Ice on... JOJO's is the cool GoGo place to be. Mahalo!

Service was very friendly, the shave ice was good and not chemically (we all got organic fruit flavors), and the macadamia ice cream was also good but a little grainy. The main problem I had was that I could not tell apart the flavors. They were good but the only way to know or guess what you were eating was by the color--even the flavors were pretty similar. They keep the tables relatively clean, specially considering that their shave ice is hard to eat so it can be messy.

Delicious shaved ice!! The tropical breeze flavor is excellent and the hidden scoop of ice cream at the bottom is perfect! Great outdoor shopping location too! Beautiful views of the mountains and sunshine. The service was great!

Do you need a cold icy treat after a long day at the Hanalei Beach and after many jumps from Hanalei Pier? Then, JoJo's is the place for you. So many flavors. Perfectly shaved ice. Do you want a little ice cream at the bottom -- well they can do that too. Friendly service. Overall great experience.

We stopped at JoJo's on the way back from Waimea Canyon, and I'm so glad we did. We ordered the rainbow and coconut pineapple shave ice. The portions were huge, and the shave ice was amazing! Definitely a must-do in Kauai.

Came on a Sunday at 3pm. Very busy due to it being in a tourist shopping district. Lots of options to choose from or you could mix your own flavors. I know it's just shaved ice, but it is delicious. Especially with the ice cream at the bottom...always a tradition for us to indulge while in Hawaii. Definitely a must try.

Amazing shave ice!!! The service was great and she was very kind in helping us decide what flavors we wanted. Ambiance was the perfect weather to get some shave ice. It was hot but luckily it cooled us down. We sat outside and devoured it haha. I loved the ice cream at the bottom of it. Would definitely come back!

Busy location in Kauai and we had shave ice before dinner. Please don't judge. Tried the north shore, Jojo's special and the root beer float. All 3 were good and worth a try depending on what flavor profile appeals to you. It can be busy here but they try to get through the line as quickly as they can.

Excellent shave ice. The dakine is a good size for most people. My son and I ordered the big kahuna which was so big that it caused quite a mess. It was coming out of the bowl and liquid form faster than we could eat it without getting tremendous brain freeze. So if you get the big kahuna make sure to share it with someone else. Flavors were very good and service was excellent.
