To Filipinos, Jollibee Isn’t Just Fast Food—It's a Destination - AFAR

"This location has become a pilgrimage destination for diaspora fans who make multi-hour drives to visit: groups call family members to ask what to bring, pose for photos with the mascot statue near the entrance, and stock up on buckets of fried chicken to share. For many, the long trips are less about the meal itself and more about the shared memories and communal ritual of bringing a taste of home to loved ones." - Chloe Arrojado

Google
They added French fries to our order even though we never ordered a comb or fries. There fries was cold, and old. I do not recommend there fries. There adobo rice is very dry. There burger steaks are half the size. Their food quality has definitely become much worse since our last visit. Not worth the money. We won’t be coming back.

Google
Heard a lot of hype about this place and I’d say it’s worth the stop on our trip to North Carolina. Very solid fried chicken, super crispy and flavorful, the spicy chicken is the one to get if I were to order again. Good atmosphere and they stayed open past closing time to serve all customers.

Google
Jollibee is Jollibee man. Food is usually always great. I recommend the peach mango pies, spaghetti, sandwhiches, pineapple drink and beefsteak! This location is always packed so getting the food ahead of time and picking it up and eating somewhere else is the move. Knowing that it's packed full of people means you'll probably get your food at a later time, so just order ahead. If you've never had Jollibee, it has to be in one of your to-try list!

Google
Packed restaurant but most were waiting on food, when I got to the register I was immediately greeted with this will be a 20-30min wait on your food. B/c I made the trip just to come I told them ok. I ordered the 2 piece(2 thighs) w/ 1 side(mashed potatoes) and a drink. Overall not a fan of the wait but the chicken was hot(temp) and spicy(taste). It was not bad at all! I enjoy the crunchiness of the skin and the spice was enough to have me sweating. Tried it with the gravy and it was just ok to me. Wasn't a fan of the mashed potatoes as they tasted like a mix from the box. Overall the chicken was decent but probably wouldn't wait 30mins to get it again. Also restaurant was too crowded.

Google
Amazing fast food experience. Worth the wait. Fun to try something new. Would recommend over other fast food chicken places to be honest.

Google
We traveled 3 hours just to eat at this famous Filipino restaurant—and it was totally worth it! The Chicken Joy tasted just like it does back home in the Philippines. Being surrounded by fellow Filipinos and hearing people speak Tagalog made it feel like we were right back there. It was also great to see Americans and people from other backgrounds enjoying Jollibee too. I was so happy and overwhelmed after finally eating my favorite Chicken Joy that I completely forgot to buy food to take back home to NC. But no worries—we’ll definitely be back!

Google
Lunch time is packed every time! For good reason, too. Asains have taken the title of best fried chicken. First, with Korean fired chicken wings and now the Filipinos with Jollibee and its fired chicken. 😋 The chicken is flavorful and really well seasoned. Also, adding the gravy with the chicken is broken! The Jollibee spaghetti always hits the spots with the savory and sweet sauce. 👌🏽

Google
We thought we would try Jollibee since we were in Virginia Beach and it was a big No for us. The chicken was crispy but it was basic fried chicken. There was nothing special about the chicken for us to drive almost 2 hrs. Luckly, we were traveling just to have fun. Next time we will skip Jollibees. Sorry!

Yelp
The chicken was cooked to perfection! Spicy was hot hot!!! Spaghetti was sweet but tasty. Could've used a little bit more sauce. The burger was delicious. Fries were ok. Service was good.

Yelp
Great addition to the Filipino community here in Virginia Beach. The chicken is fresh and crispy. I had the chicken sandwich and it was way bigger than CFA. Someone in the back got a little too liberal with the mayo but that's can be rectified on the next visit. Customer service was welcoming and the place itself was clean. My only gripe would be the adobo rice. It's a little mushy for my liking and the taste of adobo is barely there but that's just my 2 cents coming from a Filipino household where you can taste the history of your ancestors in your mother's cooking. Jollibee is definitely a contender for fried chicken here in Hampton Roads especially when you're tired of KFC.

Yelp
As someone who grew up eating Jollibee, I would have cravings here and there. We were at Virginia Beach and decided to take my cousin here, who hasn't had Jollibee since he came from the Philippines a year ago. We got here late around 8ish, and the place was still busy. The service was friendly and quick, and the place was clean. How can you not love the fried chicken and gravy? According to my cousin, the taste is the same from back home. We had fried chicken, burger steak, and spaghetti. My BF loved the Angus Aloha burger; he thought it was better than other burger joints.

Yelp
For fast food, this is pretty darned good. Fried chicken I would put on par with or ahead of all the ones that you'd first think of. Great fried hand pies for dessert - never had a mango peach pie but want it again! Very good (for fast food) mashed potatoes and gravy, and the fries I'd put up against anyone's. The only issue is that due to its popularity there are a lot of folks waiting for food. Can't be helped, but with limited seating (for the crowd size) I strongly suggest one person in your party camp out at a table while you order. One star off for not having all drink options available and for the cashier not being sure which ones WERE, exactly. But the food was reasonably priced for the quality and portion sizes.

Yelp
I found this place on a whim. My son was on a strict diet in preparation for his track meet. The night after he wanted some fried chicken. We are not from this area so I got on Yelp and searched fried chicken. I stumbled upon Jollibee, I then searched it on TikTok. All of the outlandish review videos I found had me sold. We had to check it out. Unfortunately grandma was in town and wanted everyone to go to dinner together. So we had to cancel our fried chicken plans. The following afternoon we were headed to gas up and hit the road home. My son mentioned we didn't get his friend chicken treat so we took a detour and went straight to Jollibees. Upon walking in we knew we picked a good spot. The seating area was full. Although no line when we entered we did see it get very busy while waiting for our order. The food was worth the wait. The lady at the ordering kiosk was very friendly and patient. This being our first time in we didn't know what we wanted. She offered recommendations and suggested we get a family bucket to cut the cost of ordering everyone's chicken separately. We sat inside to eat. This wasn't your typical fast food chicken spot. We really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Meant to get their beef sandwich Bcs that sauce hits! But the chicken da was juicy and good! A pineapple quencher is a must every time that I come! It reminds me of the dole brand. I got the 6 piece chicken with mashed potatoes. Dipping that chicken in gravy is a must. Definitely better eating it fresh than saving it for later!!!! Staff is nice and meals come out at a decent pace! Nice inside! Got packed fast! The paladin is a must here!!

Yelp
We are disappointed to find that Jolly spaghetti is no longer the iconic Jollibee dish we once knew. What changes have been made to the sauce and pasta? The taste is no longer the same. The sweetness has disappeared, and the sauce is no longer adequately mixed with the pasta. Furthermore, Traditional Filipino Breakfast is no longer available on the menu. As a result, we regret to say that we will not be returning to your US Stores, Jollibee. The review is primarily for the food. The 3 stars is for the service and ambiance.

Yelp
Updated to give 5 stars as the owner is so responsive which is awesome and shows they care! The food was amazing, but it was too crowded to sit down and I had to wait a while even when ordering ahead on the app, but that's likely because it was Saturday afternoon. Excellent chicken and mango pie. I didn't expect much from the fries, but they were good and seasoned well.

Yelp
Jollibee would be in my top 10 picks for the best fried chicken. It is disappointing to say that I have to travel from North Carolina to Virginia for tasty fried chicken since Virginia it's the closest one to me. I like my chicken not to battered with flour, extra crispy and not too salty. Jolibee has all my preferences when it comes to fried chicken. I've tasted some other chicken brands and there heavily battered in flour making the chicken less crispy. On this trip I tried the limited Aloha Chicken burger. It was so yummy. It had lettuce, pineapple, bacon, aloha dressing (sweet, tangy) in a bun. Of course I wouldn't come all the way just for ONE burger I had to order myself a bucket of Jollibee fried chicken too! =p Not to mention there mango peach pie is my all time favorite pies from food chains. Not pictured here. It was too good I forgot to take a photo (:

Yelp
This is one of my favorite fast food restaurants. The spicy chicken with adobo rice and mashed potatoes will do it for me EVERY TIME. The chicken is juicy and crispy and packs a punch with spice. I loveee the flavor of the adobo rice and a pineapple quencher for a drink. I like to come on Sundays cause it's busy (but not too long of a wait) and the food comes piping hot and fresh. I typically go through the drive through but the inside is pretty clean.

Yelp
We supposed in for lunch after my fiancé was telling purple how great Jollibee's is. This was a my first time dining in. I was surprised how fast the service was! We got a 6pc spicy bucket with fries, mashed potatoes and adobo rice. The food was great as always!!

Yelp
I am 100% Filipino and I love Jollibee because I was here when this place first opened. Today I went to get their chicken sandwich and the chicken was smaller than I expected. I had their chicken sandwiches in the past and had no issues. My cousin even got a sandwich and it was bigger than mine. This is not going to stop me from eating, but I wish the chicken size was consistent to the price.

Yelp
The food is fresh and hot. The service is top notch . My only issue is we don't have a location in NC . It is a 4 hour drive one way and I have to say very well worth it. The Peach Mango pies alone are worth going there.

Yelp
I'm gonna go out on a limb and hope I don't regret it because I will return. After Yelp Elite friends have raved about Jollibee I had to check them out. Granted it took forever and for that I regret it. The visit was on a weekday and was packed with mainly a Filipino crowd. The chain is Philippine based, so it makes sense to me. Also the area is heavy Filipino. The front of the business needed a serious mow. Service great and patient at the counter ordering for a first timer. Ultimately it had to be the chicken and pineapple drink. The dining room had a older gentleman trying his best to keep clean with an almost packed room. My order number was called in less than 5 minutes. The three piece had huge drums and was downright tasty with yummy breading. The pineapple drink was shockingly delicious and refreshing. I left full, satisfied and a bit surprised with my new quest. They are absolutely better than A-OK, but a 4 seemed a bit of a stretch. Oh well, a 3.5 rounding up. I do want to return and try more on the menu.

Yelp
BEST FAST FOOD FRIED CHICKEN IN THE AREA!!! Expect to wait a bit, every time, however it's worth your patience. PS: sometimes (often) they run out of chicken! (I personally think thats a sign of how delicious it is) Seating is available inside. Overall: 9/10

Yelp
Last evening in town and Jollibee VB was the perfect place to get dinner from. We placed the order online and everything was ready to go upon arrival. This time I got the family size meal so there's enough palabok fiesta to share with my hubby. The pies were perfect as always as was the fried chicken. I loved how the meat was juicy and tender without going soggy -- I don't know how it always stays nice and crispy even after we drove 25 minutes. I'm looking forward to returning again in the future!

Yelp
Great food... different variety of food... service was good... I would go back... I've tried things there that I never tried before and it was good...

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Jollibee IN FOREVER (and forever meaning YEARS)! I tried to go to this location when we were stationed here the first time in the early 2010s, but they said the fried chicken was going to take 30 minutes. The place was packed! That was my memory. Then we were stationed in Hawaii and again, same experience. They said it would take 30 mins to fry the chicken and the place was packed. I had very young children at the time, so ain't nobody got time for that with screaming toddlers, so I gave up. Finally, after 10+ years, I returned to Jollibee with Dee, and tested our luck on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm-ish. We had high hopes! Luckily, when we arrived, there were a good number of customers, but no means in the "packed" category. What we ordered: - Pineapple drink - would definitely get this again. It kinda reminds me of a agua fresca, but not fresh pineapple juice. Great to wash down all food. - Chicken sandwich - not my favorite. Chicken was good, but the bun was a bit strange to me. Almost too browned and too perfect. Almost like play food. - Filipino spaghetti - It reminds me of the spaghetti my mom made growing up. Is this an Asian thing? I thought it was just my mom making it sweet with hot dogs, but I guess not. Jollibee's was even sweeter than my mom's. I know a lot of people love this, so I'm not gonna yuck your yum, but I will respectfully decline. You can have it! More for you! - one regular fried chicken and one spicy fried chicken - star of the meal! I loved the spicy version the best. Dee told me to pull off the chicken skin, put some rice on it and dip in rice. Really good! - rice and gravy - I also love the fact that rice is served with the meal, but what Asian meal would be complete without it?! The gravy add a nice sauciness to it. I know it's more starch, but I wished I had some mashed potatoes to add more starch to the meal lol. S/N LOVE the fact that there is a hand washing station outside of the washrooms! How convenient. Overall, I'm going to stick to the fried chicken. I definitely want to go back to try a noodle dish that I saw someone eating and eat my way through the rest of the menu! Enjoy, Friend and never stop exploring!

Yelp
Went there this weekend with my wife bc she's Filipino and it was off the hook as usual

Yelp
Whenever I make a trip to Virginia Beach I make sure to stop by Jollibee and order enough food to satisfy until the next visit. Mobile ordering is my best friend when it comes to placing a large order. Even with big orders I've never had anything incorrect or omitted, everything is nicely packed to prevent any spills or leaks. I really appreciate the time the staff puts into their mobile orders. Great customer service for a fast food restaurant. I wish there was one closer, I'd eat here all the time! This restaurant is always busy but always clean!

Yelp
First time visiting this Jolibee in Virginia Beach. We visited the one in Jacksonville, Florida, St Pete, Florida, New York City, Jersey City, NJ and Madrid, Spain. The food is consistently fantastic. I always have the spaghetti and Chicken or Palabok and Chicken and tried the spicy Chicken and Mash Potatoes. Ummm, ummm, good! I find that service is a little slow at this location. Perhaps we hit the middle of Wednesday night Dinner Rush hour or their focus is take out order which is hopping. The ambience is typical of the Jolibee franchise; perhaps this has less decoration. Jolibee is always my favorite chicken place

Yelp
Jollibee is a family favorite and reminds my husband of his childhood in Manila. This visit happened to be on Christmas Day. We were determined to get fast food for dinner. No fast food option was available at 4:30 pm except for Jollibee. The drive thru line moved fairly quickly. However, do be careful to listen to the price and check your receipt. We were accidentally charged for another order that was $75. We ordered 2 spicy chicken sandwich meals this visit. The spicy chicken sandwiches had slices of jalapeño and a spicy sauce. The chicken itself didn't seem spicy at all. I don't think I will be ordering this again. I thought I would try something different than my usually fried chicken and spaghetti. The chicken was good and crunchy it just didn't meet our standard of a spicy chicken. Without the sauce and jalapeño it would be a basic chicken sandwich. We will be back for fried chicken and spaghetti.

Yelp
I have always wanted to try Jollibee and let me tell you it does not disappoint. I have been here three times in the last month. When you are dining in, the chicken always comes out fresh from the fryer so it's juicy and hot. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice. There are times during lunch that it gets super busy with limited sitting but that doesn't bother me and all.
google avatar

Jesse C.

Yelp
Whenever I see a Jolibee, I want to eat there since I don't get to eat here very often. But they are popping up around me so hopefully I'll see one open closer to me. I always get ther spaghetti and chicken combo. The pineapple and mango pie is something I get too

John V.

Yelp
The food was crispy, amazing, delicious, and the chicken sandwich was the best in fast food history, The fries could have been crispier though, the Ube pie was a 10/10. The service was great and our table was immediately cleaned. The building was clear and well designed and the bathrooms were clean.

Yelp
Today it must have been in the stars to try Jollibee finally, because no one was in the drive-thru. So i made my way around and ordered the Chicken sandwich with fries and 2 regular fries. It cost about $16. The girl at the window was very nice and polite. I was in and out in about 6 minutes. Not to bad. Everytime i drive by the cars normally wrap around the building. So today was a good day.. The fries were hot and pretty good. They even filled them up. Yay!! Most places don't even try and your box is never full. So that was awesome!! The chicken sandwich was big, hot, and juicy. It was tons of batter which i luv... But when i tasted it the batter was weird and kinda sweet. I won't lie, it threw me off. Lol. The chicken inside was ok. I pulled all the crust off and finished it. I may return to try the spaghetti or something. 3 stars!!
google avatar

Yelp
This Jollibee has one of the juiciest chicken joy in America. Crispy on the outside but moist inside. The palabok was also delicious and they give you lemon juice for it which is a bonus. The cheesy yum burger was also a hit to my kid. It's his favorite so far! The peach mango pie was sweet and savory. Definitely satisfyingly for a sweet tooth like me. The pineapple juice is definitely a mustThe customer service is up to par. Ambiance is casual.

Yelp
Chicken joy!!! It is always packed when we come here - lunch or dinner. I Jollibee Craving satisfied. Sadly they were out of spicy chicken. Shout out to Lolo working hard cleaning the dining area the entire time we were there. Try the peach mango pie and palabok, so yummy.

Ernesto C.

Yelp
There's so many times that they messed up my orders and didn't put it in the bag that I already payed for!.. workers are nice but they mess up a lot! Pissed me off today I'm sorry. And those ube pies are $3 each!! And there was no pies in the bag!.

Yelp
Our first and last time. Ordered food from the counter, spent over $70, and didn't get it for about 25 minutes!

Yelp
This was the most tasteless chicken ever. The best thing is the mango fried pies.the service was pleasant.

Yelp
Good bye Chik Fil A sandwich and HELLO JOLLIBEE. Sorry but not sorry, Jollibee is so much better in terms of crunch, flavor and freshness. I hesitated on writing this review as I like being the only white guy in a restaurant. Reminds me of my travels to Asia. But this place is too good not to share with everyone I know. ANYWAY, the other food is good too. The Palabok is out of this world and I am drooling writing this review.
google avatar

Michelle E.

Yelp
It's a Filipino restaurant/food chains. The chicken and palabok is my favorite! It taste like home!.
google avatar

Yelp
Quick and easy drive thru pick up, place is always packed, it's been almost a year since I've had Jollibee Chicken. Ordered Chickenjoy 10Pcs Family Bundle with 3pc Peach Mango pie (Wife's Request). Giving it 4.5 Star because of the price. Bit expensive for 10 Piece Chicken and pies but who can complain with one of the best Fried chicken you can get. Drive thru service was fast and easy.
google avatar

Tracy T. S.

Yelp
I love this place. The absolute BEST "Fast food" restaurant I've EVER patronized. This place is immaculate. Every inch of it. The Men's room, pristine. Never have I seen a public restroom so clean. ALL the staff still wear masks!! I do too, so, this is a major bonus for me!! The food...delicious. Their menu is bananas; It's so vast. They have spaghetti, white rice, brown gravy, fries, fried chicken, tenders, chicken sandwiches, various pies, cultural specialties...it's initially hard to choose. I had the three piece, one side, and Pineapple juice. Yes. PINEAPPLE juice at a fast food restaurant!! The cultural influence is definitely evident, and I LOVE it!! I will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Vincent L.

Yelp
After eating Jollibee for several times. I think I like chicken from other fast food chain better. The flavor and spices is more bold in Popeye and KFC. But Jollibee does have better sides and more options. Spaghetti, Palabok is not something you can get often in a meal.
google avatar

Briana R.

Yelp
The food was so delicious !!!!!!! 10/10 I would visit here multiple times. The Mash & Gravy was so good. The Fried Chicken was crispy and the Spaghetti was immaculate. The Pineapple juice was tasty and flavorful. I love this place & I will be going back!
google avatar

Yelp
A piece of nostalgic Philippine dining in VA beach! We ordered a chicken joy meal with spaghetti and pancit palabok, which were expectedly like dining to any Jollibee in the PH - delicious crispy chicken dipped in a golden brown gravy...YUM! Both noodle dishes were excellent, but I wished the portion size could've been bigger. This place seems to be crowded every time we go that I can barely hear the cashier speak while taking our orders because of the noise from multiple conversations. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this place for its excellent fast food.
google avatar

Yelp
Despite all the fantastic reviews, I was definitely disappointed in this place. Seriously, I really wanted to like this place. I mean, what's more comforting than food from the motherland? Except when they hang the phone up in your ear, open half an hour late, all their food tastes like a salt lick. Where do I begin? I call at 8:10 to make sure they're open because the drive through still has cones in front of it. So right after I start talking to the woman that ends up hanging up on me, I look at the online menu to make sure they still have certain items. Of course my question doesn't get answered because she's too busy complaining. So I drive to the nearby Dunkin' to get a cup of coffee, taking my time since it's past opening and Jollibee still isn't open. At 8:30, they come out and the cones are removed. Great. I pull up to the drive through and the guy taking my order is totally rushing me. Really? There's no one behind me. What's the rush? I pull up to pay and literally was not offered any condiments. As suspected, the guy that took my order has an attitude like he just doesn't want to be bothered. I bite into my food and it's literally like taking a lick off a salt block. Yuck! At $9 a plate, I could have gone anywhere else and gotten something way better, that wasn't going to make my hands swell up to the size of Shrek's after eating. Now, I will say the peach mango pie is to die for. But I think it will be a while before I come back here.

Yelp
Had some friends come over and wanted to try Jollibee chicken. For starters, prepare yourself to wait line. One cashier that takes menu order, pay for meals, then wait again while the meals are heated to temperature. I suppose for a Jollibee fan, this is the norm. Nothing special on the fried chicken. The spaghetti is.... Not on the scale. the desert -Halo halo is ok. A bit too sweet from the mixture of ice cream, sweetened beans and other fruits with a small slice of creme brûlée (pictured). Enough to give you a sugar rush for a week. Unfortunately, my first and last visit and I can say, I tried it.

John B.

Yelp
Not a fan of the flavors or chicken style. This place has fans but I just don't get it. Clean and polite service.

Carlo C.

Yelp
Goated chicken. tender chicken meat and fast service. love the peach mango pie as well.

May Anne D.

Yelp
It's my favorite fast food and recommended this place and even 5hours drive just to have this Jollibee chicken with creamy gravy

Mark B.

Yelp
$35 not worth biker no white meat and small sides.Food portions should be much bigger for what u get
google avatar

Yelp
What the hell Is going on? Where are the seasonings? I want SPICY fried chicken. If I wanted unseasoned lackluster chicken I'd go to kfc. Where is the Filipino Aunties in the back hooking this up? Fix it. Season it. Do something to it. I had to call my cousin in the to ask has anything changed! I don't want American chicken. Fix it.

Yelp
Why 2? You know that when you go to Jollibee, you have that feeling that you will be happy when you get there and feel the filipino hospitality. Sad to say, did not get that except a rude, tall girl told me that 'his order came first to the assembly line' when i followed up my order after 10 minutes, even i was the one who ordered before that guy. he might be the third person who ordered after me because i was sitting down already and waiting for my order. We know that whatever you say, it would not matter bec Jollibee is Jollibee. It will take a while before i go back there.

Yelp
Yum! Jolibee is the popular fast food chain from the Philippines. When they opened it in the area it was the first Jolibee in VA. They are known for their chicken joy with gravy, but everything on their menu is good. We ordered a bucket of spicy chicken joy with gravy, adobo fried rice, and the spicy chicken sandwich. Everything was really good. The chicken was really crunchy and juicy. The spicy flavor came thru not only from the chicken skin but from the meat as well. It wasn't super spicy but it did have a nice kick to it. The chicken dipped into the gravy is really excellent. The adobo fried rice was also good, that could be a meal in itself. The palabok noodles is also very good and the spaghetti has a sweet taste to it with slices of hotdog which is how they make it in the Philippines. For dessert I usually get the peach mango pie which you can't miss!! It's crunchy & hot with peach and mango oozing out. Soo good!
google avatar

Yelp
I've only had ice cream I went to the drive-through window Service was fair I didn't go inside how much ambience kind of drive-through window have? Food ice cream was soft serve and I thought it was rather expensive

Yelp
It's just ok nothing special and definitely overpriced and that spaghetti was to sweet for me
