Jona's Homestay

Our stay was fine, but the accommodation was not as nice as Lonely Planet suggests. The rooms are small and in need of a new coat of paint. The bathrooms are shared and the one shower with hot water didn't have enough flow to get the soap off. The food at breakfast was not the best. On the other hand, the staff is very friendly and helpful. They did a great job on our laundry for a very good price.

Nice cozy area. Convenience store is just 5mins walk, 10mins by becak(3cycle traditional cart) to Malang train station. ||The staff are so friendly, and helpful. They also can help you to arrange tour to Mount Bromo, Sempu Island,etc. you can rent motorbike and bicycle too... In affordable price. ||I stayed here in economic room for rp 85.000, public toilet, exhaust fan and window.

We stay here for 2nights. ||First day, we have to pay idr 100 thousands for the cheapest room, size 2x2,5metres with TV and exhaus fan, outside bathroom, with playwood partition. So we can listen what other room said :)||Second day, we top up our room into better room, with a solid wall. We paid about idr 115 thousand.||The staff is so kind and really helpful. We can rent motorcycle for idr 75thousand for 24hours. But if we want to travel by walking, the place is so strategic to go everywhere. Near Balaikota, near main street, near Putu Lanang, and else. ||Recommended place to stay, esp. For budget traveller :-)

We booked private Bromo trip with Jonas homestay for competetive price. Not sunrise to avoid crowd. I would not rate the trip so low as agenda was ok and driver spoke English well. BUT ticket for park entrance which is not cheap at all (350.000 ipr per person for weekend) was not paid to park and went to driver pocket. This made me very very upset about agency. This is national park which needs maintanance. We also paid for breakfast which we got only after asking couple of times at the end of trip (12am). Breakfast meant sweet pastry, one piece per person, no drink .... joke?! I would rather do trip with Helios which are little bit more expensive but very proffesional.

Good, cheep, rooms are nothing fancy but it’s a quiet place to stay & close walking distance to most central attractions. Lovely owners who speak reasonable English. They provide food, scooter hire and trips to Bromo & Ijin volcanos.

One of the worst homestays we have ever been. Room was very dirty and stinky (no real window). Bathroom and toilet were disgusting. Guy at the reception insisted on withholding our passport for the time of the stay.

Seemingly the best place to rent motorcycles for tourists. We searched in whole Malang for a place where we could rent motorcycles and after a long time we finally were sent to Jona's Homestay. They immediately gave us two bikes, helmets and masks. During our trip we had an accident around 1,5 h away from Malang and they sent 2 guys to fetch the motorcycles and help us back to the town. They were always friendly and calm.

Good staff and tours( try the Bromo one with excellent car and driver)||If i were the owner i would refurbish and redecorate one room a year.... They are worn out and not confortable. Price in keeping though.||The place is quiet far from Malang's hub and terrible traffic so i would strongly recommend some investment in the rooms...
