Celebrate Singapore’s Dragon Boat Festival with these unique bak changs (rice dumplings) - SilverKris

"A Pulut Hitam Nonya dumpling inspired by the black-glutinous-rice dessert with coconut milk: glistening purple grains of black rice add a textured crunch and mild nutty fragrance that blends with the maker’s signature sweet, soft rice for a nostalgic, dessert-like bite. Available until 14 June 2021." - Joy Fang

I heard about this place when I was craving some rice dumplings. I ordered the 5 different flavours to try as its my first time ordering from here. I especially loved the emperor one as it encompasses everything that a rice dumpling should have. It has flavourful glutinous rice packed with mushroom, chestnut, melt-in the mouth pork belly, chinese sausage and even salted egg yolk. With almost every bite, you'll get a good taste of almost everything at one go. The rest is good too and I especially loved the flavourful minced meat and glutinous rice, but the emperor one made a really lasting impression on me. I'll definitely come back again to order more when I'm craving for rice dumplings again!

Ordered 5 dumplings from Kim Choo. I would say its one of the best I've ever tasted. They have some unique flavours like Hakka Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables Rice Dumpling and Emperor's Dumpling. I particularly loved the Emperor's Dumpling as there were so much ingredients, love the scallops and mushrooms inside. The other flavours were great as well.

Tried the Treasures Trove gift set which consists of 8 rice dumplings (4 Nonya and 4 Hokkien), and 10 Ang Ku Kueh (5 sweet bean and 5 green tea). The Nonya rice dumplings are my personal favourite, the flavour is great and has a generous meat filling. The Hokkien rice dumplings were filled with braised pork, mushrooms and a salted egg yolk. The Ang Ku Kueh was not overly sweet and has a chewy texture. Definitely would recommend this set, especially the rice dumplings as they are delicious and filling enough for a meal!

Ordered some of their rice dumplings for my family to try and wasn’t disappointed! Fillings are definitely generous and the flavours really come through for each dumpling. Personally had always only stick to Nonya dumpling but was glad to try other varieties and found new favourites! Enjoyed the Emperor’s dumpling and Hakka pork belly and preserved vegetables one. My parents have asked me to order again!

Had five different dumplings for lunch this afternoon: Emperor’s rice dumpling, Hakka pork belly with preserved vegetables, Hokkien rice dumplings with salted egg yolk, Pulut Hitam Nonya rice dumpling, and Nonya rice dumpling. The dumplings are amazing and good for value. Each dumpling had a unique flavour; my favourite was the Pulut hitam dumpling. It has a refreshing aftertaste that struck my taste buds. Also, the Nonya dumpling was a delicious blend of nicely garnished glutinous rice and perfectly seasoned meat. Would highly recommend this place and will come back again for more!

Got the treasure trove set and was surprised with how pretty the packaging looks! Truly a treasure trove and would definitely recommend gifting to others! Inside, there were 4 signature nyonya rice dumplings, 4 hokkien rice dumplings with salted egg yolk, 5 sweet bean ang ku kueh and 5 green tea ang ku kueh. I tried all of them and I have to say this is one of the best rice dumplings and ang ku kueh i’ve eaten. Rice dumplings have huge chunks of meat, rice was soft despite it being in the fridge for a few days and it was pleasantly fragrant! Ang ku kueh was also a hit in terms of its flavours. I personally liked the green tea one because of how mellow the flavours were but the sweet bean was also exceptionally good.

Ordered 4 Nyonya and 4 Hokkien Dumplings and it was so enjoyable, my whole family and I really loved them! The rice was tender and sticky but not gelat, the meat in the Nyonya dumplings was savoury with that sweet umami flavour, and the salted egg yolk in the Hokkien dumplings was so delicious (and not too salty/overly eggy). I enjoyed the kueh salat cake as well, not the usual kind you can find outside! The Pandan top was deliciously sweet and the rice really helped balance it out! Overall, 5/5 experience, and the packaging was so beautiful too!

I am used to only eating typical Nyonya dumplings so I was quite excited to try different types of dumplings here. Safe to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Joo Chiat Kim Choo’s choices. I tried the Pulut Hitam Nyonya Rice Dumpling, Emperor’s Rice Dumpling and the Hokkien Rice Dumpling with Salted Egg Yolk. I absolutely love how every dumpling is flavourful and packed with generous amounts of quality ingredients. 👌 Here are some of my thoughts on each dumpling! Pulut Hitam Nyonya Rice Dumpling: Looks very interesting to me and I enjoyed how the dumpling tasted sweet on the outside whilst holding a good balance of flavours inside. 👍 Emperor’s Rice Dumpling: My favourite out of the three! The ingredients in this were so generous and decadent – I was surprised to find scallops 🤯🤤 I can see why this dumpling was given its name. This dumpling is great for those who enjoy fattier meats and savoury flavours, as you’d be sure to enjoy the tender slices of pork belly. Hokkien Rice Dumpling with Salted Egg Yolk: The taste of this dumpling was a bit more savoury as compared to the rest and was quite new to me! This dumplings had leaner cuts of meat, which I think is great for those who are more health conscious. 💪
