Joop's Place

Oh what a brilliant establishment! This place came highly recommended by a close friend and they did not disappoint. The service we received from our waitress Ashley was exceptional. The food exceeded our expectations- their steaks are cooked to perfection. We had a medium done fillet with pepper sauce, a tomahawk with buttery mash and mustard sauce, and their loaded fries. All these exceeded our expectations. I would 10/10 recommend Joop’s and will definitely be dining here again.

I ordered the chicken livers and was given a cheesy bun which was thereafter corrected. If you don't like it sweet then don't order chicken liver. For my main, I ordered the king of the lamb with baked potato sour cream and butter. The potato was boiled in day and reheated sliced open warm.. the lamb was not on a rack ..4 thinly sliced burned fatty lamb chops served almost cold and heavily dosed in that sauce which completely killed thr taste of good lamb. Well I cant say much for the presentation of the 300g fillet. Between, the onion rings looked like calamari rings and was placed with our meals on our table in error. We didnt know.. My husband tasted one and the waitress apologized and removed the rings from the table explaining....:) We decided to share a desert in good faith, home-based cheesecake was probably made for Xmas.... 1 spoonful each and I didn't bother to take a photo, we sent that back. Somehow I thought the reviews, description in the menu and the price of the meal would have been a promise for good food, presentation and service... sadly mistaken but my money taken.. I booked so I paid.. Im keeping the review real so someone doesn't have the same poor experience.

I have frequented Joops in Avonmore many times and could possibly say it was my favourite restaurant. Last night was my son in law's birthday and due to where he lives, we chose to go to Joops in Umhlanga. How disappointed we were!!!!! Where do I start. Being a Springbok Rugby player, (and very well advertised at on the menu AND website for Avonmore Joops,) he asked for a 500gm cut of meat as opposed to a 300gm. The waitress told him outright NO, and that he could order 2 x 300gms on the menu. It was not even an option to ask the Chef if he was willing to cut him a 500gm rump. Yes I understand this was not an option on the menu. Furthermore, when his steak did arrive which he asked for medium rare (the pepper steak stuffed with cheese), the one side of the steak was medium to well and the other side of the steak was rare. Totally cooked incorrectly. While I ordered a rare filled, I got exactly what I wanted and was delicious. However another guest ordered the peppered fillet steak medium rare and it virtually came BLUE. This evening was overall very disappointing, especially that the said rugby player had his family were there, including which not having the option to change from a 300gm steak to a 500gm AND was not even given the courtesy of having the chef asked if this was a possibility. I can assure you, he wont be back, and nor will he be suggesting Joops Umhlanga a restaurant for when the Boks have had a hard workout and are hungry, to go to Joops for a nice 500gm rump!!!

Foods is the best quality. Love the Steaks they made perfectly. My favorite is tomahawk steak 😋.

I recently visited Joops Place Westown for the first time. It was my wife’s birthday so we decided to indulge. Upon arrival there were friendly and pleasant staff to seat us down. The atmosphere with the light music in the background made the ambiance enjoyable collectively volume was right enough to hear the conversations. I indicated that it is my wife’s birthday to the friendly waitress and she ensured that “she’s Got me”. She was gifted with a complementary fondant chocolate cake which was so unexpected but was thankful. The food : Amazing. Service:Excellent. Cleanliness: Spotless. I will definitely be joining JoopsPlace Westown again and again. 🙏🏻☺️

Joops place is under New Management in the last year or so and the quality of food has really deteriorated. Dined in on 19/02/25. Requested for a fillet and ribeye steaks. There were none in stock as per our waiter Connor. Ordered a rump steak and it was sent back as it was tough and sinewy. The manager on duty agreed that it was cheap cut as he had same for lunch! 😳. If it’s a cheap cut, why serve this to customers?). It’s not okay!!! Falkland calamari was tasteless and dry. The chicken livers had a weird texture sauce. The Jalapeno cheesey chips were over-fried and baked further for the cheese to melt and resulted in dehydrated chips. The bread offered with the livers was a burger 🍔 bun cut in half , toasted and served. 😏. Not impressed! The only decent starter was the Peppered boerewors. 😕

Oh what a great experience. Highly recommend Joop's Place for Meat. If you want to have a great steak, consider Joop's place and be blesses with a steak out of this world. I had a Tomahawk and my partner had a Lamb Shank. We both enjoyed our meals to the core. Lol, I even put the cutlery to decisively deal with the bone. We were both so full we had to take dessert away. Service was great, though it was packed due to the occasion of that day. Atmosphere is well balanced. Definitely going back for another steak!

Joops not what it used to be. My wife and I both had steaks. I asked for a fatty piece and all I got was sinew. Steak was cook alright. But not the same as in the past. Only redeeming thing was the pepper sauce. Paid 1000 rand for two steaks and a desert each. Very disappointed.
