I have frequented Joops in Avonmore many times and could possibly say it was my favourite restaurant. Last night was my son in law's birthday and due to where he lives, we chose to go to Joops in Umhlanga. How disappointed we were!!!!! Where do I start. Being a Springbok Rugby player, (and very well advertised at on the menu AND website for Avonmore Joops,) he asked for a 500gm cut of meat as opposed to a 300gm. The waitress told him outright NO, and that he could order 2 x 300gms on the menu. It was not even an option to ask the Chef if he was willing to cut him a 500gm rump. Yes I understand this was not an option on the menu. Furthermore, when his steak did arrive which he asked for medium rare (the pepper steak stuffed with cheese), the one side of the steak was medium to well and the other side of the steak was rare. Totally cooked incorrectly. While I ordered a rare filled, I got exactly what I wanted and was delicious. However another guest ordered the peppered fillet steak medium rare and it virtually came BLUE.
This evening was overall very disappointing, especially that the said rugby player had his family were there, including which not having the option to change from a 300gm steak to a 500gm AND was not even given the courtesy of having the chef asked if this was a possibility. I can assure you, he wont be back, and nor will he be suggesting Joops Umhlanga a restaurant for when the Boks have had a hard workout and are hungry, to go to Joops for a nice 500gm rump!!!
