Josefa d' Óbidos Hotel

Excellent hotel located just outside main entrance to Obidos old town. Really helpful and polite staff. Good breakfast options. Would definitely stay there again. Only difficulty was parking, as limited outside hotel. But plenty within 5 minutes walk.

Very good location. Small and cozy hotel. The only problem is to book it on your dayes - very popular place! Need to be booked well in advance.

On 8 January 2025 the hotel cancelled my booking for early February because the hotel would be closed for lift repairs. A refund of my pre-payment was promised. ||||I chased the refund and was told that reimbursements would not start being paid until the hotel re-opened on 13 February 2025, so more than five weeks after the date of cancellation.||||I complained about the delay and eventually received my refund on 6 February, still almost a month after the cancellation date.||||While the specific circumstances are unlikely to reoccur, travellers will wish to consider what this delay tells them about the hotel's attitudes to clients.

We enjoyed our stay at Josefa D'Obidos. The hotel was very conveniently located just outside of the walls, which suited us well to get dropped off there without our driver having to navigate inside the walls. The staff were also extremely accomodating, helping us to have breakfast early because of our early departure time. We really appreciate the service we found here.||The hotel would benefit from a renevation soon; our rooms were clean and servicable, just a little in need of a refresh. Also, when renevating, I hope that they will consider ways to better reduce hallway sounds in the rooms.

This is one of the top ranked hotels in town and it has decent sized and clean rooms and a pleasant ambience and a great location but the rooms did smell moist and the carpets were moist and sticky which was not great. This seems to be an issue in many hotels in or near the old town. Breakfast was good but wasn’t included in the rate. There’s a large free parking lot a minute from the hotel.|Overall for a one night stay - given the location and free parking - this was ok.

Great find for us two mid 60’s road tripping Aussies in early December. Right on the old town walls, English speaking staff, huge breakfast and immaculately clean room, and parking as a bonus. At this price point, don’t go anywhere else- just book it!!

Given this hotel is ranked 4 out of 17 among Obidos hotels at the time of writing, I might have been forgiven for expecting a little more. What we got for our $130 was an astonishingly uncomfortable bed with tiny, squishy pillows, a shower with an improperly attached door (and a resulting wet mess all over the tiny bathroom’s floor), sewage smell from the same bathroom, an awkwardly located sink that requires even modestly-sized guests to maneuver rather intricately to perch on the adjacent porcelain throne so as not to impale themselves on its sharp corner, an air conditioning unit as old as the hotel itself and a huge wall containing a relatively tiny window behind a wooden door. Maybe it was just our luck and other double rooms are better, but something tells me this is all just part of the “charm”. ||The location just outside the city wall and free parking if you’re there early enough and the hotel isn’t totally full - there are only eight spots - are just about the only things earning this review an extra star.

This is a four star single floor hotel Just Outside the Castle Wall. An ATM in the courtyard and couldn't be nicer. There is a free book exchange in the lobby. The bus stop for Lisbon is 100 feet from the front door. The entrance to the ancient wall is about the same distance, the other way. Wr came early and were allowed to check in. Breakfast is included tomorrow. Just one night here but we could have done 2-3. There is so much history in the village. There will be a Christmas market in November. They are getting the structural work done now.

I felt like a James Bond movie with Sean Connery could have been filmed here - old world glamour with a bit of a mid-twentieth century vibe. Comfortable room and good breakfast included. You can't beat the convenience of stepping outside and entering Óbidos through the main gate.
