My wife and I loved this little spot. We've been in the neighborhood for awhile but had yet to try it. Always saw cars out front, so figured it would be good. It sounds like they recently started serving breakfast all day on the weekends, which is what drew us in. We're usually wanting to grab breakfast later on the weekends, and Josephina's really hit the spot. It was exactly what we were looking for. Loved the colorful ambience as well!

I love this little restaurant. And I love that it’s locally owned. The food is phenomenal, especially their breakfast. The woman who owns the restaurant and the staff are kind and helpful. If you’re in the area, I highly suggest giving this place a try.

Google
Food okay. Chips and salsa were delicious! Our first time there. Owner did not seem to care when we went to counter to pay our bill. Her daughter was pleasant and inviting. Not our top spot.

Stopped by on a Saturday 5/20 for a quick lunch. Was quickly greeted and seated at a table with some fun art behind us. This place came recommended and was looking forward to the menu. Service was good, nothing out of the ordinary. Our drink order was taken quickly along with a small queso. I love that they had Mexican cokes and Jarritos. Ordered a beef enchilada plate for the kiddo and I ordered the macho man. Everything was hot, prompt and for the most part good. My 12 year old is the queso connoisseur and judges on salsa and queso. She said the queso tasted out of the can and I personally have to agree. There was nothing special about it, just a heavy thick bowl of cheese. She enjoyed the enchiladas, she said the chile con carne over the top tasted like a tamale. Macho man was very good, it’s def hot and wonderful flavor. All in all a good lunch. I didn’t know they had breakfast so next time around I’ll have to try that out.

I can see why they're always busy. Food is great, very homemade and delicious.

Google
I ordered a bowl of menudo, which was a good portion and very tasty. Service was good but plan to wait 10 to 15 mins on weekend but worh the wait. If you like very spicy salsa ask tor the verde, it will bring the heat!

I’ve been here a few times with my daughter, she’s 9. Chips and salsa are good. Menudo here is always good, but not with butter and toast as the options have, we eat it with corn tortillas and butter. I decided to try something different and get the taco salad. I started to get really grossed out with the liquid that seeped through the shell. Not sure if it’s water from the lettuce, beef fat or both, I’ve had taco salads before and I’ve yet to experience this until now, however, it was corrected. As for drinks, my daughter seems to always get an adult sized cup, not sure why, but then again I haven’t asked for a child sized drink either. Between the two of us I pay about $45. Either way, because it seems to be family owned, we will still be returning. Gotta support our local family owned businesses. Happy Thanksgiving.

Google
The food was average, the service was mediocre and pricing is absolutely RIDICULOUS. For 4 plates, 2 soft drinks and 1 coffee with a bunch of sides I didn’t know they were going to charge 1.99-4.99 for. All of those ended up being $86, after recalculating the total was $74 which made more sense. Three days later, they charged my account $92 and the manager is always unavailable to speak for a refund. How does the total go from $74 to $92 is what I don’t understand. I could understand if it was due to the tip but the tip was left as CASH. If you plan to come here PLEASE be cautious of what they are charging you, they WILL overcharge if they can get away with it. Absolute ridiculous and dishonest way of running a business.

Yelp
While in Fort Worth for a training my colleague and I sought out a local, hole in the wall Mexican joint for lunch- Josefina's did NOT disappoint! Service was great! Our food was flavorful from the salsa to the appetizer (Best Friends: bean dip, queso and guacamole) and on to our entrees! So much food, for not a big cost! My only complaint was I had to return to the training and not enjoy a cesta! Next time we are in the area we will go back!

Yelp
Great little place - bring beer! Was highly recommended by neighbors, and it didn't disappoint. There are many little Mexican restaurants in this area, and it's been fun to try each of them - this one certainly ranks well. Probably better for lunch than dinner. BYOB Chips & salsa: 5 - great spice Spicy Verde Chicken Enchiladas: 5 - surprisingly spicy! Floutas / Taquitos: 4 Refried Beans: 5 Facility: 3 - sparse / simple / open Service: quick

Yelp
What a cute little restaurant! The furnishings are pretty simple, nothing fancy, but make your way back to the restrooms and you'll see the cutest lotería paintings on the wall! That added to the ambiance. It was clean and cool, and it is a byob. They start you out with chips and salsa and their salsa is delicious! It is similar to Mi Cocinas and Taco Diner. I could drink it! I like that they give you individual servings of salsa too. I ordered the carnita plate with double beans. The carnitas were made to perfection and the beans were delicious! I also ordered some green salsa to go with it, which my daughter recommended as it is creamy. It was good. The service was excellent! The young girl was easy to talk to and was very attentive. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Home sweet home! Finally after FOUR years of searching, we found the BEST Mexican Food in Texas Super clean, amazing service, food was SOOOOO incresibly delicious! Will definitely be coming back! So glad we found this gem.

Yelp
Really, really good. Super reasonable on pricing and the food is tasty. The best Mexican rest we have tried in Fort Worth. Taco's were perfect and the salsa has the right kind of kick, just enough for your nose to run. A must try. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't understand all the high reviews. I've had way better Mexican food elsewhere. Nothing really stood out to me. I did appreciate the food being served extra hot. For better food and great cafe de olla I prefer La Casa De Lina.

Yelp
While visiting Ft. Worth we stopped off at Josefina's after seeing the great reviews. This is not a touristy place. This is where the locals like to eat. Coming from Florida, I was craving Real Mexican food. The food was gone before the pics were taken, but rest assured it was great. The service was great from the initial greeting, through the refills, and to the discussion of what a proper sopapilla should look and taste like. These are as they should be. The restaurant itself is clean and roomy. Plenty of big tables for families and decent sized booths for smaller groups. Next time we are in the area we will be visiting again.

Yelp
This BBQ place is so fantastic! The people are so friendly and the food is amazing! They have a huge outdoor patio area with corn hole and lots of fans. They also have a guy that does a fantastic job entertaining guests playing the guitar and singing awesome country music! Happy hour is from 2 to 5 and it's so great! Please come support this amazing place and show them some love. We will be a regular there as often as we can. Try the large brisket nachos! They are delicious! Enjoy! PSA: Oh yeah close the bathroom door so the cold air stays inside!!

Yelp
Food is beyond excellent. Got a fajita dinner to go and almost had to pull over and eat it before getting home (less than 1 1/2 miles from home). Not only did it smell good but it was delicious

Yelp
A great recommendation is the best. A recent recommendation sent to Fort Worth to @josefinasmexicancafe . @mccallverde told me they have phenomenal breakfast as well as lunch & dinner items. Upon arrival, the Josefina's Mexican Cafe sign really struck me. The red & yellow against the blue sky is awesome. We ordered lunch: *Best Friends (a dip trio) *Mely's plate *One Chile Rellano * Sopapillas We enjoyed our meal at Josefina's. You should follow them and get over there asap. I am looking forward to returning soon. I got to try the rest of their menu.

Yelp
Food is delicious and fresh, and the service is great. It's a favorite in the River Oaks area!

Yelp
Love this place ! Everything is always spot on. I bring my Father here about 1 a week, he loves the Fajitas." Like butter Baby"

Yelp
I'm never in River Oaks but had to meet a relative there and they wanted to grab lunch. We took a shot on Josefina's and found a great little place with good Tex-mex. The waitress was incredibly sweet and efficient. The menu is very limited and no frills compared to the places I normally eat on my side of town, but the quality more than made up for that. A couple of us got the cheese enchiladas and they were perfect -- not too greasy or heavy. One of our party said their taco salad was delicious. The chips and salsa were average but good. Overall I'd come back if I'm ever on that side of town.

Yelp
This small mom and pop restaurant is a gem!!! The staff here are always super friendly and you get quick service. Then you order the food and what you get is mouthwatering!! Such good food and everything tastes so fresh!!! I have eaten here at least five times now and I feel the need to give this restaurant its due credit!!! Great place and I highly recommend it!!! Cheers!!!

Yelp
Delish food, friendly staff and bomb coffee. The owner is super friendly and checks on the tables to make sure things are good.

Yelp
The chips/salsa were fantastic. The food was delicious--we ordered carnitas and fajitas (both tasted excellent)--and was served quickly. Our waitress was alert and kind. The restaurant is small-ish, but worth the wait if you must. It's not close to us, but we would definitely go back. Alcohol is BYOB.

Yelp
We came in around 5:30-6:00 for dinner, we were seated in a filthy booth, ordered water for all three guests and cheese sauce. We finally got to order our food, 2 chicken enchilada dinners, and a gusida dinner. We waited for a long time, empty chip basket, empty salsa cups, and the waitress finally brought some salsa, still no food! The food finally arrived and we took one bite of the chicken enchiladas and both of us simultaneously spit it out and the chicken was rancid tasting, the other meal was boiled meat to the point of being rubbery and threw some gravy over it! Our waitress never came back to the table for us to let her know that all 3 dishes were bad! The owner came close to the booth and yelled everything good? I said NO ITS NOT GOOD HERE, and she turned around and walked off, not acknowledging that I even said anything to her! We didn't eat anything on the plates... We asked her for the check, my husband went to pay the bill and he tried to tell her how bad the food was and she couldn't have cared less about it! Horrible food and even worse customer service! That's the last $51.91 she'll ever get from me!
google avatar

Eve S.

Yelp
There was a small wait to get seated but staff let us know they would be with us soon. We were seated and the waitress was super friendly and took our drink order. Brought back Chips and salsa which were very tasty! We made our order and got our food in a timely manner. I have pics of all food we got. Super tasty but couldn't eat all of it as it had really generous servings. We got refills quickly and were checked to see if we needed anything throughout. Great service, good prices and big servings. We'll be back!

Yelp
Great food. Awesome service!! This restaurant used to be in Azle and we just found they had relocated to River Oaks. Well worth a visit!!

Yelp
Love the Wednesday special--Chicken Fajitas. So good. Their service is always the best even when short staffed and I love the tree that is always decorated for the season and the saying on the wall.

Yelp
Here from Houston Texas , Saw all the great yelp reviews on this place and took my family here to check it out. So far not having a pleasant experience, I ordered the chips and queso and the queso tasted like nacho can cheese and usually that's how I determine if the food is going to be good or not but we shall see. The waitress is not welcoming at all , it seems she doesn't even want to be here nor serve us , hope her day gets better. Will keep you updated when we receive our plates.
google avatar

Yelp
As resident of River Oaks I still think this is the best palace for some good ole Mexican breakfast. They have the best cinnamon coffee and the barbacoa breakfast plate is the best.

Yelp
Disappointed. We've driven by this place several times. After looking over Yelp, we made a special trip to try out this place. I am sorry to say, our visit was less than pleasurable. The waitress couldn't decide where to seat us. The place only had one other customer, so I still do not understand why she had to walk us to 3 different tables before asking us to take a booth. Only one other customer came in while we were there. "For your safety" they posted menus on the wall at each booth. Yet, the waitress handed us a plastic coated menu as well. I found a salsa spill on mine. Clearly, they were not being wiped down between customers. I asked for water, no lemon. It came with lemon. I asked for my taco without cheese. It had cheese. The tamale on my combo plate was the smallest I've ever seen. It was no bigger than a roll of pennies. I asked for chili con carne on my enchilada. I got red sauce. We had to ask for water refills twice. It came time to pay and we had to wait at the front for 5 minutes while 2 waitresses and the cashier had a discussion in the back. Why? Well, they pretty well ignored us for the whole visit, so we should have expected more of the same. The food was nothing special and rather bland. The service was horrible and the wait staff uninterested. There are too many options in the area who are happy to have our business. It is highly unlikely we will return.

Ashley H.

Yelp
It was delicious! Can't wait to go for lunch sometime soon. Cool little tucked away place to eat at.

Yelp
Maybe we hit an off day. Every good restaurant has them. But I was not impressed with the offering on our visit last week after reading the review in the StarTelegram. I ordered the plate that included a chicken enchilada with salsa verde, a cheese enchilada with chili con carne and a ground beef taco. None of the three had any kind of flavor that would compel me to want to have this again. The salsa verde had some heat but was overly tart, the chili con carne was nondescript and the ground beef had no seasoning that I could detect at all. My wife had the chile rellenos which was similarly unremarkable. Her plate came with typical rice and beans and these were, well, your typical Mexican restaurant plate filler rice and beans. So I dunno. Lot's of folks are very happy here. So give it a go and see what you think. But this pic of my plate is pretty appetizing!

Alison G.

Yelp
Went to try this place out yesterday around 5 and they were not open. Looks like they close at 3 every day. Need to update here and the website which shows open until 9 pm.

Yelp
We were in the area and checked Yelp for good local restaurant reviews. Y'all didn't steer us wrong! We had the #20 Carne Asada a la Tampequena, #11 Combo Plate(1Enchilada & 1 Taco) and small Guacamole Every item was delicious. We ate more chips than I'd like to admit but I blame it on the tasty salsa. We liked it so much we bought extra to bring home. The waitresses were very friendly. We highly recommend. They are open for Breakfast and Lunch but are only open 2 nights (Thursday and Friday and it is BYOB.

Luis G.

Yelp
10-12-23 First Visit...GREAT FIND! (Thin waitress ) provided wonderful service. She offered menu suggestions and answered every question with our interest in mind. We eat Huevos Rancheros for my wife and I eat the egg plate with Pork Chops... the hot sauces were excellent (they provide extra spicy upon request). The flour tortillas were delicious and the HOT COFFEE WITH CANELA was outstanding. We live 60 miles away, but, we will be back and share this information with our friends. *****

Yelp
Really good authentic Mexican food from a family owned business. I have eaten here a dozen times and every single thing I have tasted was delicious. They serve homemade Pozole and menudo on Saturday and Sunday only. Try them out.
google avatar

Doug R.

Yelp
This small family-owned restaurant has great food and friendly service. Like most such establishments, they are battling labor shortages and have a sign on the door asking you to be nice to those employees who showed up for work today. I love having a weekend breakfast there with migas and cinnamon coffee.

S H.

Yelp
Great chips and salsa. Recommend #20 & #11. Great service. Highly recommend coming here for lunch and dinner.
google avatar

TexasPossum T.

Yelp
Really liked the new location, much better than the Azle one We had fajitas and a Tex-Mex combo. We totally recommend the Tex-Mex! The chili is on point, and the sides were very good too Wasn't super excited about the fajitas. They didn't arrive sizzling and were heavy on the oil. On the plus side, the meat was tender. I'll definitely come back, but won't order the fajitas. No worries, there are plenty of other choices. Would like to see the addition of charro beans, but the refried ones are tasty enough A big plus: the service is wonderful and friendly. The manager (owner?) dropped by the table to check on us. To me, that shows they really care Another big plus: big praise for a spotless, well-maintained dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. Y'all check it out. You won't be sorry

Yelp
Excellent food. Great service! This little gem is located in River Oaks, TX. It's just across the street from A&B Lawn & Garden. The food is authentic not Tex-Mex. Such a great little place to have a really good meal. Try it out. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
unfortunately, I have to give them a bad review. Not for the food, as it was good. But...3 of us had lunch, that according to their menu prices, should have been about $31.00 for the food ($9, 11, and 11) Plus we had two waters and one soft drink. The bill came to $42.16. When I questioned the cashier about the separate pricing, she didn't have it...just $42.16. I started going over with her the pricing...then she said..."Oh, we are making a new menu and charging the new pricing...$1 extra per entree". I told her that we ordered off of her menu ( the one they were using for everyone) and expected to pay the prices on the menu. She then said..."Oh...we can't do that because you have already eaten the food"...and that is a quote! I said...wouldn't it be correct to charge the price you list on your menu, and that is what I expect to pay. She again said..."well, you have already eaten the food". We went round and round a few times. This wasn't about the money. If I don't like the price, I don't have to eat at a restaurant...BUT...I expect to pay what the menu says. They don't give you an itemized breakdown...just an total...and she would not give me one. I asked to speak to the owner...she came back and he had said to take $2 off of the total. Fine...the whole point was missed. I have owned two restaurant....IF there was any issue like this...it should have been handled right away with out this going back and forth...and her refusal to write down what exactly I was paying for. Ok...somewhat resolved...but...ASK for an ITEMIZED bill at this place. This is not the first time I walked out of Josefina's not sure of what I paid for. So...she refunded my $42.16, then charged me $42. I then left a tip...as it wasn'T about the price, but what I was paying for. The service was quick and efficient.

Yelp
The portions see generous, the service is friendly and the food is amazing! Their hours are short on some days.

Liv P.

Yelp
Really good food but awful with with their open and closing times. Now 3x we've gone and they've been closed early. We were trying to place a Togo order 30mins before close and they literally opened the door and turned us away. So I'd call ahead before you go and waste your time and gas. Their times on Apple Maps aren't accurate either.
google avatar

Scott Michelle A.

Yelp
Amazing! The chips and salsa were great which tells me the food will be great, as well. I was right! Had the combination steak and chicken fajitas for two but it would definitely be enough food for three people. Maybe even 2 adults and two children. It also includes dessert. Oh my goodness! Just found my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Oh, and the service was great!
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
Ho Hum.......Boring and predictable. Old white people food with no flavor or spice. Oh well, Give the masses what they want.

George M.

Yelp
All I can say is that it is just average and no more. Waitress was fine. Will I return I don't plan on it.
google avatar

Cal C.

Yelp
This place doesn't even FEEL like River Oaks! The lunch came out within 3 minutes!!! Can you even complain? I'll let you know how it tastes...(drum roll) We have a winner! I got the 3 tacos and the little woman got the 1/2 order nachos (it was HUGE). I will tell you it feels like a taqueria what with the humming cooler and the open kitchen. Waitress was very cordial and nice. Let's do it again Josefina!!!
google avatar

Sheree M.

Yelp
Excellent food and kind service! I was grateful for their efficient and gracious curbside attention.

Yelp
Great place great service and line isn't to long. I love their steak and shrimp and can't forget about the cheese enchiladas:)
