HOW does this place have less than 4 stars?? My Pop and I went in on our road trip from Utah to Alabama and had a wonderful experience. Our server was so kind, the food was delicious, the margaritas were balanced, and our to-go slice of pie was phenomenal! Some places feel gimmicky about the route 66 thing, but since this place has been around so long it feels like an original part of the route's fame! Definitely stop by!

I placed a to go order over the phone. I ordered Chicken Chalupas, a large Root Beer Float and a small Pizza de Santa Rosa. I was told the order would be ready in 15 minutes. It really took 25 minutes, but it was worth the wait. The food was fresh and delicious, and it was packed with care, including salsa and sour cream for the Chalupas. They also included plastic silverware and napkins, which was helpful.

Google
It was very okay. Cute little diner and souvenir shop. Got to get out of the van and have a sit down meal. Great fries! The fried chicken sandwich was okay. The chicken club was a chicken breast, we were expecting sliced chicken. Not a big deal. The buffalo chicken salad was tasty.

I was driving from Toronto to Phoenix. I stopped in Santa Rosa. I stayed at a place I've stayed before and spyed a restaurant/bar across the road. I really liked the place, Joseph's. Their new bar, in the sports bar is quite happening. They had live music, testing out the sound. They were very pleasant. I ordered a chicken club, to go. It was very good. I had a couple of drinks. Javier knows his job...the drinks were wonderful. The whole deal made me want to stay in Santa Rosa for a few days.

Visiting the town and got a couple pizzas on a special they had that evening. Great price on delicious pizza! Big hit with the family and the restaurant was great! Love the atmosphere!

Google
You will get closer to a true Mexican Cuisine by ordering something at Taco Bell. Bf got the "fajitas" and was deeply disappointed. I went on the unhealthy but safe side of ordering the patty melt which was pretty good if you like mushrooms on your patty melt and enough french fries to send you rushing to the emergency room with a cardiac event. There was no soap in the bathroom. Do we need to wonder where the employees are washing their hands .? Yikes... I sure hope they have a sink in the back with soap. The decor is super cute!

The food is delicious. We make it a point to eat here every time we pass through Santa Rosa. The decor is fun and the service is pleasant and friendly. Highly recommend.

My husband had been here a number of times before years ago and was excited to be back. We were greeted and seated quickly, and our wait staff was also prompt. I had the tamales but was undecided if I wanted Red or green sauce so they kindly offered me a little of each on the side. LOVED the green!! Nice little gift shop in the restaurant as well. It was a nice, family friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
Santa Rosa NM After a late check into a nearby hotel we asked where to go eat. She suggested this place and said she use to live next door to owner. Rating was not as high as I would of liked but most places were already closed. My husband thought we had a pizza delivered to hotel on one of our previous trips. Just a down to earth place with a bar in back and small gift area. We sat in a front booth, not too many there. Ordered a LG meat pizza to be safe. Bigger menu with lots to choose. A man next to us ordered steak fries covered in cheese with dipping sauce that looked good. Most were getting hamburger and fries. Our pizza was really good! By the time we were eating the place got packed! Service was good from a younger girl. I definitely put this in my notes for next trip as we usually stop here when traveling west from okc. This is about a 1/2 way. We stay at same hotel so now we have a good place to eat that stays open late. And they deliver to LaQuinta hotel.

Yelp
From the beginning to the end customer service was great. We didn't know what to expect for the nachos, we ordered that and a pizza. Those nachos was enough for 3 people. They were delicious. The pizza though. The crust was just the right thickness, it was light and airy. The taste was absolutely amazing.

Yelp
Very 'route 66' diner. Husband had the chicken fried steak ranchero and he enjoyed it. I got a personal sized pizza with pepperoni & mushrooms, which was quite good. We ordered beer, I asked for a Modelo with a lime, which came in a can with a slice of lime on top. What do you do with that? Had to request a glass. Beer from a can is fine but you just can't squeeze a lime into it. They were quite busy, service was ok. Cannot highly recommend, but it may be your best option in Santa Rosa. ‍

Yelp
We needed to find a quick spot to eat with hungry picky kids. We stopped off here around 7pm. The parking lot was full but we were seated right away. The restaurant was filled with lots of fun decor. We kept it simple and it hit the spot. My picky 6 year old downed 3 slices of pizza so I call that a win! Everyone was very friendly and we enjoyed the stop.

Yelp
If you're ever in Santa Rosa, NM, and looking for a spot where the locals hang out, Joseph's Bar and Grill is the place to be! This dive bar may not be fancy, but it does dive bar right. The vibe is laid-back, and the craft beer selection is fantastic, featuring brews from all over New Mexico. Whether you're in the mood for a cold one or something stronger, the full bar has you covered. But let's talk about the food! If you're craving authentic Mexican flavors, you've got to try their Hatch Green Chili--it's absolutely outstanding! And while I didn't try the pizza, judging by the number of people ordering it, it must be something special. Joseph's isn't about the frills; it's about good times, good food, and good drinks. So, if you're in town and want a no-nonsense place to chill, this is it!

Yelp
Diegos Pizza is now part of Josephs Bar and Grill. My daughter and I drove to Santa Fe for a short vacation, but broke up the trip by spending the first night in Santa Rosa, NM. We arrived in time for dinner. The desk clerk at our hotel suggested eating at Josephs/ Diegos Pizza. It was a cute little cafe. Our waitress was very friendly. We ordered hamburgers and French fries. There were many choices of how they could be prepared and served. The food was good. We learned that they also deliver to the town's motels and hotels. We were tired from driving all day, but hungry. We got our food after a short wait, ate and then returned to our hotel and went to bed. There are only a few restaurant choices in Santa Rosa. I think we picked a good one.

Yelp
Bottom Line: good pizza, local brews, and fun atmosphere for the tired traveler on the way through town. The Good: service was great, food was fresh, and the quality was good for the pizza. We had a cheese as well as the pepperoni & green chili with mushrooms. The Bad: fewer options than I first thought and a bit on the pricey side, but the best quality food in Santa Rosa and the shortest wait.

Thomas G.

Yelp
The food was hot and very tasty. The service staff were very attentive and friendly. They checked on us six or seven times throughout our visit. The ambiance was very pleasant. Some late rock music played softly in the background. With two drinks and tax the bill was $45

Maycey L.

Yelp
Awful service. They only got 2 orders right and told us they couldn't make something after all other food was served.

Yelp
Call Joseph's if you want Diego's pizza, as Diego's number is disconnected. I ordered a small, thin crust, pepperoni. It was pretty salty.

Philicia G.

Yelp
The pizza's are good. Waitress was attentive. The ambience gave you the feeling of being back in the days when Old Route 66 was alive.

Yelp
I'm baffled at the middle age hostess in the blue arm sling who greeted us. Actually, greeting is a bit luxurious for the attitude she took. Before my dad said anything to her, she said 'I'll be with you in a minute.' From that point on I did not feel like a guest, rather an inconvenience. After she told my dad to 'be patient,' sounding thoroughly annoyed and beyond exasperated that she had to do the job she signed off on, I decided we werent going to eat there. If you're alright with feeling like a massive burden and unwelcome in the establishment, this is the place for you.

Yelp
What a HUGE disappointment! We have been eating at Joseph's for as long as I can remember and yesterday's' trip was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! We both ordered the Avocado BLT and when it arrived we were shocked to see not one WHOLE piece of bacon on each sandwich. The bacon was in small pieces along the bottom piece of bread and covered by a mound of shredded lettuce. Also, very small amount of avocado for the $13.99 price for EACH sandwich!! Wish I had taken a picture, forgot you can post them on yelp. Waitress came by once and of course I had food in my mouth so I couldn't mention to her that there seemed to be a severe LACK of BACON on a BLT. At checkout, the young girl asked how everything was and I told her that there was virtually NO BACON on the BLT and she just shrugged it off. Place seemed the same as always, new cook?? After this experience, we may look elsewhere in Santa Rosa for dinner. Like I mentioned $13.99 for an avocado BLT seems excessive to begin with especially when it was mostly bread and lettuce!!

Yelp
No. Delayed service. Soggy food. Gross. Has to throw most of it away. You know that's bad because I'm a foodie on here and will still pretty much eat anything. Said there was outside seating, no service, no fans, no announcement of when food was ready. And it was filthy on those picnic tables. Go eat grass instead.

Mike V.

Yelp
The food was way too expensive for its poor quality. I definitely don't recommend this place if you are looking for something to eat
google avatar

Melody M.

Yelp
Well it's been 3 years since my last visit and review and I'm sorry to say that time has not been kind here. The people were friendly and service was quick but the food was pretty bland and not very good and it was even cold in some places. It's the only place to eat really in town but I couldn't recommend it anymore. I don't know if you changed cooks or recipes which seems likely but I would say you definitely need to revisit those recipes and make sure you actually serve the food hot.

Yelp
We love the music and atmosphere! Our waiter was very courteous and helpful ! It was a great experience after a long day driving!

Yelp
Well if you're passing through this nearly a ghost town looking for food, good luck. Only a handful of restaurants are open in this town. This place has bad reviews, but we tried it anyway, my husband had a burrito and I had pizza. The staff was friendly, the food wasn't too bad, I believe most of the bad reviews are older reviews. Eat in or order take out and eat in your hotel/motel room since that is what this town consists mostly of-gas stations and motels. I would recommend this place, or at least try it I don't think you will be disappointed. Good luck

Jeff R.

Yelp
Good food, Route 66 inspired decor and top notch service!! My server (Estevan) was friendly, attentive and honestly did a perfect job! I had the Combo Mexican plate where I choose a relleno, cheese enchilada and crispy beef taco. The red chili is earthy but not overly spicy. Good flavor. The enchilada is tender but not mushy, and the relleno had a nice crisp to it and was very flavorful. The crispy taco was average but the veggies were crisp and not just iceburg lettuce. The beans and rice were both nice as well as the chips and salsa. I recommend this restaurant, as it also appears the other variety of food items were very good from surrounding tables I observed.

Yelp
We were staying at One of the local hotels after driving a 10 hour day and really wanted a cocktail with our meal.. There aren't many places in town that serve cocktails so we chose Joseph's.. Probably why the place was busy.. Food was OK after we put some green and red sauce from the kitchen on our fajitas they were actually really good.. Table tops are an issue for me though it's just my thing I hate when the salt and pepper shakers are sticky and dirty and the condiments are old and crusty..just better to bring them out or refrigerate them if out in warm weather. Our server was sweet but a bit too busy. Overall for what's offered in town this is probably ok..took all tables in our area a long time for food but food was good enough and cocktails hit the spot.

Gary A.

Yelp
Nice little roadhouse directly on Route 66. Spread of bar food, pizza, and New Mexican cuisine. Surprisingly good salads even! Waitress was lovely. Definitely a dinner stop if passing through or lodging in Santa Rosa. Beats the heck out of fast food.

Kelli T.

Yelp
We tried this place as the only restaurant we could find in town July 4th. We ordered nachos and a two beef enchilada plate. Though I asked for no cheese I only received chips, whole beans and sour cream in package, salsa in a small container. The food was tasteless and bland. I would not recommend, even if every other restaurants are closed I would go to the market and buy a packaged salad then go back to this restaurant. The food was more for diabetics or individuals on a strict diet. Customer service felt they were indifferent to our patronage. I was told by locals Chicos is the place to go. Next time!

Donna H.

Yelp
I ordered a simple cheese quesadilla with green chilies but didn't get the green chilies. Boy that was a hard order to fill - NOT!

Gary H.

Yelp
Passing thru, needed supper. Excellent food, fast service. 50's and 60's decor celebrating Route 66. Would certainly come back!

Yelp
I hate that feeling when you realize you've just thrown away money on bad food. When the fries are the best part of your meal, that sinking feeling of regret. Wishing you could go back and decide to spend your hard-earned money and precious family time somewhere else. I had all of those feelings at once after stopping here to eat on a recent vacation. You might ask, with a mere 2.5 star rating why eat here? Because it was first off of the freeway and we had starving kids in the car. We should have planned this stop better. It started bad. Complimentary tortilla chips tasted like a cheap grocery store brand. Same with the included salsa. Their Joe's Double Decker burger was just not good. Patties were scalding hot and stayed that way until the very last bite..Usually the sign of reheating in a microwave :( Burger was unseasoned, dry and flavorless. A single slice of American cheese was a puddle on top. Added chile verde was so sparse I could not taste it. Battered fries on the side were actually pretty good. Veggie quesadilla was like something I would make myself in high school. Lazy, boring, bland..It was pretty pathetic. Service was fine but they never asked if we were enjoying our food. The decor is old and dusty, license plates on the walls, more dated than Route 66 kitsch. I think they rely on mindless freeway travellers to stay alive. In conclusion, I want my money back. Not that they care. They haven't even claimed their Yelp page.

Yelp
We stopped in on our way to ABQ. The service was really good both the hostess and server were really nice and attentive. We ordered a pizza, Caesar salad, and stuffed mushrooms. The pizza was good, just a bit greasy. The Caesar salad was really good too. I was let down by the green Chile and cheese stuffed mushrooms. I don't think the green Chile was hot enough or had enough flavor to make them great. They were just okay. With not very many options in town this is a pretty good place to eat.

Yelp
Pizza in NM is like fried chicken in TX to me. Some things just taste better in certain places. So, if you are in Santa Rosa or just passing through and like pizza this is some of the best I've had in my life. The pizza is beyond delicious and the specialties are even better with a local twist. The mushroom appetizers are homemade so if you like mushrooms you've hit the jackpot. And, I ate dinner here with friends tonight adding to this wonderful experience. If you want some fresh and delicious food you have to try this place. Closed on Monday. Opens at 5 PM. I don't know the weekend hours. Got to try!

Yelp
We came to Santa Rosa for a diving trip to the famous Blue Hole. We were hungry and tired and wanted good food and good drink. We found Joseph's and went for their New Mexican food! Their chille rellanos were amazing! I had them two nights in a row! The third night my group ordered their pizzas. And the pizzas were everything I wanted in a good pie: perfect chewy crust, fresh toppings and cheese that holds everything together on one perfect pie! I ordered mine with green chilles and it had a good bite to it! The staff is friendly and always willing to accommodate when they can. Just a great local place with great local hospitality! Try the Blue Hole margaritas, I promise you will love this beautifully blue margarita!
google avatar

Callie G.

Yelp
Just ordered to go and everything was pretty basic. Hamburger over fried or twice fried...all they gave me was ketchup, mustard and 1 packet of mayonnaise! Sad
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Website says it opens at 11 am but the sign on the door says 5pm. Is there any place in this town open for our business besides McDonalds?
google avatar

Doug S.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Overpriced for what you get. Their vegetables are overcooked. Stick to the pizza or Mexican side of the menue.

Jenell U.

Yelp
A long wait to be seated and we were the only people waiting. When the waitress finally came we wanted to place our order as we had already waited quite awhile. She would only take our drink order and then return. We ordered a medium sized pizza and she promptly said they were out of medium. So we ordered and small and asked for chips and salsa. When those arrived they were obviously the bottom of the bag. Few pieces were large enough to hold and dip in the salsa. Pizza was delicious. She never came by to check on us. When she brought our bill we mentioned chips - oh sorry about that was her response. When I paid at the counter and again mentioned our disappointment with the chips he said they were closing for 2 days so what they had left was all they had. No offer to refund us for something that went mainly uneaten. Disappointing service.

Yelp
I'm not diggin' on the negative vibes, Man! Coz I thought this little hole in the wall was quite charming and rocked a damn good burger! We were "Day Trippen, Yeah," from the Q to Santa Rosa, just to take in some small town Route 66 sites and, naturally, we were starving. As we swung in, we were met with a nice smile and sat right away. Service was decent, and did I mention a "Rockin' Burger"? These guys obviously pile on the Route 66 nostalgia everywhere, to include a pretty robust gift shop selection. They sport the photo op face cut out things, and I liked the place. I especially liked the double green chile cheeseburger! Big and juicy, just like I like my women! How can you go wrong, huh? So I say, don't pay attention to the naysayers, stop on by and enjoy a big juicy burger! You'll be glad you did!
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
We stopped here the other day and I forgot to rate it! We had prompt service and good food. I had the chicken sandwich and onion rings-yummy! I had a cup of coffee that was wonderful. True roadside Americana stuff! I would recommend a breakfast or lunch from here. There is a bar there but we didn't go in.
google avatar

Yelp
So disappointed. good reviews brought us in, but ummmm........ well, after my second bite, I had to actually run to the restroom. I ate what I could because we had a huge travel day ahead. Oh my! Never again. People please follow your "gut" instinct and if you walk in and think twice.... please think twice. Overpriced lesson on a greasy spoon. Sorry,

Yelp
Spending night In Santa Rosa on way to Utah. I CALLED AHEAD TO BE SURE THEY WERE OPEN- Yes, the dining room is open, after 550 mile drive I felt a cocktail was in order so I ask, do you have a full bar ? YES! Is the bar open? YES!! I can almost taste my old fashioned. Drive about 2 miles, walk in and greeted right away, told him we were going to have a drink before dinner...he says the bar is closed...it was open when I called 10 minutes ago, You can order a drink from your table, ok! Get the menu, on back is a list of margaritas and beer, waiter arrives, I ask for an old fashioned , he had no idea what that is, do you have bourbon? NO only margaritas and beer? Didn't know what a Michalada was either, said he was just filling in. We left, anyplace that employs people this stupid was bound to have crappy food. Here's my recommendation, avoid Santa Rosa altogether there is nothing here to see.

Yelp
Joseph's pays homage to the old fashioned diners on Route 66. It is a full flavor, full calorie experience! We went there twice during our trip to Blue Hole for our scuba diving certification. The first night I had the chicken fried steak ranchero. This thing was huge! It was also covered in white gravy with green chiles. This dish is rich and heavy and will put you straight to bed! Which was perfect since we were exhausted from diving and heading straight to bed anyway! The sopapillas were an added bonus and delicious as well. The next day we stopped by for lunch because we had to get Joe's Tacos!! Our dive instructor got them the night before and man they looked fantastic!!! Well they did not disappoint! They were a basic ground beef taco but just perfect! You don't always need to have fancy toppings and craft created tacos, sometimes simple is best. Joseph's makes an awesome, simple and flavorful taco. Also, grab one of the Route 66 sodas, they are crazy good! If you are swinging through Santa Rosa I would definitely stop by this old school diner!

Debra J.

Yelp
We couldn't understand why Joseph's/Diego would have a low rating? We discovered after entering the front door that the restaurant is all encompassed with pizza, Mexican, and American food (hamburgers/fries). The back area is an extension of the restaurant including the bar. We ordered personal pizzas and salad everything was fresh and yummy. I didn't see anyone eating Mexican food, but did see others eating hamburgers and fries. They looked good. The restaurant looked clean and the service was fantastic! We will definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Sean K.

Yelp
It was one of the very few restaurants open due to the covid. My boss and I went there for dinner/take out, They seemed to be really busy. All in all, we got our food in under 20 minutes. It was definitely filling. There beef burrito is massive just a FYI
google avatar

Robin B.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Santa Rosa for some reason, you have to stop here. This place akin to a landmark with all kinds of things from back in the day. I can just imagine this joint hopping on Route 66 back in it's heyday. I'd have to say this is one of the better spots to fill your tank while you're in SR. I had the enchiladas, one beef and one chicken, easy on the RnB (rice and beans) and they were delicious. I have to say their green chille tested my taste buds on the hot'o'meter. Our waitress was on top of everything, keeping our free chips and salsa full and even bringing a sopapillas after we were done eating.

Garland R.

Yelp
Great food and best top shelf margarita in town! Highly recommend this place!!! Will definitely eat here again when I come back thru Santa Rosa!

Mo P.

Yelp
The service here was really warm and friendly, and the food, beer, and margaritas were just what the doctor ordered after a long day on the road. Fun ambiance, with a good mix of locals and tourists. The parking lot was full on Friday night. The slices of pie in the case also looked delicious, though we filled up too much on tamales and enchiladas to try one.
google avatar

Alecia P.

Yelp
So..... JUST DON'T. Please. We were driving from Dallas. Starving. And now, we are all sitting in the car saying "this is the worst meal we have ever had". Here's the lowdown: (A microwave dinner would have been more satisfying) Chips and salsa : cold chips and salsa from the jar i could have stopped at Wal Mart Refried beans: cold, crusty and weird Rice: watery, mush and no taste Queso: IT WAS COLD CHEESE WHIZ . I just don't know how you could mess up queso. Tacos: cold, hard .... i just watched my husband try to chew and choke them down. Enchiladas: couldn't be cut with a fork, so my son picked them up like a hot dog ‍ On a positive note, we laughed until we cried at this hysterical dinner. We made some memories. Now i guess we stop at Dairy Queen?? ‍

Yelp
We stopped at Joseph's Bar and Grill because our hotel (Quality Inn Santa Rosa) recommended it as being the best restaurant in town. If this is the best I hate to think what the other one or two restaurants must be like. Joseph's Bar and Grill does have history in Santa Rosa, NM as you can read about from the menu which looks like a newspaper. The menu by far gets 4 stars but the restaurant is another story. It was dirty, really dirty and did I mention it was dirty. The restaurant was busy and I imagine the waitress and bus boys had not had an opportunity to tidy up the place. We still ordered a meal despite the dirt. The waitress was pleasant, she took our drink and food order. I ordered the Pattie Melt Deluxe and it was tasty. Service was okay but I was confused because some customers (most of them) got chips and salsa when they were seated but we didn't. When I asked the waitress about this she said "if you order Mexican food then you get the chips and salsa. That's funny because the other customers hadn't placed their orders. They sat down and they received chips and salsa. We sat down and received nothing. Just so happened my husband and I stuck out like a sore thumb in the restaurant and I will leave it at that. The food was okay and I was happy to leave. The gift shop which is attached to the restaurant had plenty of over priced merchandise (key chains, shot glasses, t-shirts, baseball caps etc) for tourist to purchase.

Georgette F.

Yelp
Really good food! Our waiter was the best. Bummed because they were out of our first choices but what we decided on was great!! Margaritas were pretty good too!

Yelp
Ordered this past weekend over the memorial day weekend had delivered to the Holiday Inn probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my life taco shells and chips stale so bad you couldn't eat them They brought me half of what I ordered and not what I ordered worst $33 I've ever spent on delivery

Jill R.

Yelp
My husband and I ate here tonight and thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The staff was great and made us feel most welcome. We ordered tacos and nachos. And let me say, that if you order the nachos it's enough food to feed the whole table! If we are ever back this way we will definitely go back!

Valerie S.

Yelp
We had great New Mexican food. Excellent chili rellanos. Good, fast service. Clean bathrooms

Yelp
This place is OUTSTANDING with the BEST customer service I've ever had! I was just passing through for work and couldn't be happier I did!! I left my wallet here and didn't realize it until I was already in Missouri. The owner Angie went ABOVE AND BEYOND for me! She went to UPS, FedEx, & USPS to find which would get it to me quicker. Not only that, I asked what method of payment would work best so I could pay her for the shipping plus some for her troubles. She told me not to worry about it and Happy 4th of July. She said if there's anything we've learned this past year is we've got to take care of each other a little bit more. This had me in tears! If I'm ever in Santa Rosa, this is where I'll be going! THANK YOU ANGIE!
