Where to Eat in Aspen

"The spot to grab a breakfast burrito on the way to the mountain. Jour de Fete also serves a wicked jersey roll and a proper cup of coffee, which, in a ski town, means in a Hydroflask to-go." - MATADOR_NETWORK

I recently tried this coffee shop and was pleasantly surprised. The breakfast was satisfying. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. It's a great spot for a quick bite and a good cup of coffee. Come early and enjoy the fresh air seating outside. Merci Olivier

I recently had the opportunity to dine at a French-run breakfast joint and was unfortunately disappointed by the quality of the food. For a meal totaling over $45, I was expecting a higher level of culinary excellence, but the burrito and omelette we ordered were mediocre at best. The burrito was small and dry, lacking in flavor and overall appeal. The omelette, on the other hand, was a complete disaster. The eggs were overcooked and had a texture reminiscent of rubber tires, and the smoked salmon and spinach were not incorporated well into the dish. For a restaurant that bills itself as a breakfast joint, I would expect a better execution of classic dishes like the omelette. On a positive note, the staff were wonderful and very helpful. The coffee was also quite good. Overall, while I appreciated the friendly service, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on the subpar food.

Google
I ordered a turkey sandwich with tomato, mozzarella and avocado straight off their menu for carry out. That’s not what I got. It was turkey on bread with a bite size square of cheese and a single piece of avocado on each half for $17.60 plus tax. I also asked if it was deli meat or fresh turkey - I was told fresh turkey but it was 100% deli meat.

Google
High price small portion subpar food with no service. Breakfast omelette was not cooked right. Chicken sausage tasted like cardboard. Toasts were dry and cold. $9 bullet proof coffee was weak and watery. We ordered sourdough but got white bread. We were charged more for the prices showed on the menu. When asked for a carafe of water, the server grabbed a leftover one from the next table to give to us. I was hoping for much better food in Aspen. We will not be back.

Google
Places in Aspen generally leave me disappointed and amazed that people pay the prices for the lack of quality. In this case, I wasn't overly impressed, but I did like that they have nice outside seating, and they treated my Fur-Daughter well. She had non-dairy scrambled eggs and seemed to enjoy them. The baked goods decent, but I am kind of partial to Loius Swiss. Anyway, give it a try. Order something good for your fur baby too.

Google
Very very chaotic and confusing to order. Different menu outside than inside. Some menu items had prices, some didn’t. Employees yelling names, smoky, when asked for hot sauce was told to find a table that has one. Also the burrito was tasty but VERY small. The huevos rancheros plate was not good. The avocado didn’t seem fresh at all. Perhaps the chaos was due to it being new year?

Google
Merci, Olivier! Aspen is an incredibly challenging market to operate in as a restaurant. Olivier and his team have served me delicious food for a few years now, and I’ve never been disappointed. As they prepare to close, I think they deserve credit for doing things like cooking breakfast sandwiches with real eggs on a stovetop—something you can’t find anywhere else in town. They’ve consistently used the best ingredients and cooking methods for quick-service food in Aspen. I really hope the new owner lives up to Olivier and his team’s high standards.

Such a lovely experience. The food was incredible, and the owner was super kind! Highly recommend.

Yelp
I am from out of town just visiting for the weekend with my fiancé and this cafe was close to our hotel. We came here on two separate occasions. When the cafe gets really busy, you order from the window outside as the cafe itself is small on the inside; small but cute! The first time that we came, I got the Luigi with a cinnamon roll. Personally I felt that there was too much spinach on the Luigi, it made it hard to get a good bite into the toast. The sun dried tomatoes, however were a nice touch. The cinnamon roll was great too. For the second time we visited, I got the Stella Bowl. To be honest, I wasn't wowed, all the ingredients were solid but the dish lacked seasoning. The bacon made it the best part. The chocolate croissant was the best part, in my opinion, of that whole meal. My fiancé had a slightly different opinion, as he got omelets both visits and those were very good, simple and tasted good. The coffee did not miss! They bring your food to you, which was nice. Overall the food was decent and it's nice that the cafe was conveniently located but there's nothing that truly stood out to me. Overall I give our experience a 3.5/5.

Yelp
I ordered the "Amy" salad which was described as a bowl of warm brown rice over a bead of kale with melted shredded cheese, tofu and a dressing. I decided to add avocado and my total came up to $20. What I received was the saddest salad I have ever had. Dry kale with minimal tofu and a very small amount of rice with cheese. Left hungry and dissatisfied. Will not return.

Yelp
$20 for a mediocre ham and cheese sandwich is my only point of reference. Nice covered outdoor seating. Breakfast may be better.
google avatar

Yelp
Found this place pretty average. It has an ample menu of breakfast and sandwich options. It's conveniently located but really didn't find anything to write home about. I had the huevos rancheros and they were quite inauthentic and served Luke warm to cold. You order at a counter and they yell your name out and wander around the restaurant looking for you. Fortunately it's a pretty small spot. The service was average. Not sure I'll be back. Much better breakfast options in Aspen.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful friendly staff. Interior dining area was tiny but lots of outdoor seating. Had amazing breakfast with a "salad" of roasted butternut squash, bacon, poached eggs, and spring mix. Delicious! To top off this meal was the BEST Americano I've had during my CO visit. I highly recommend this place and loved the big smiles and great service I received.

George V.

Yelp
Food was nothing special. The service was ok. But the reason why I am giving it 1 star is because it was $77 for a breakfast consisting of 1 burrito, a salad and a croissant (2 adults and a toddler). I mean, I understand it is Aspen, but come on. To make matters worse, the whole menu had all the prices covered with black tape. Had the food been great, I wouldn't be complaining, but the whole experience was not what I called "satisfactory".
google avatar

Laila K.

Yelp
Parries were delicious and fresh. Service is exceptional. Prices are a tad high, but it's probably because it's Aspen. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I enjoyed an early morning Belgian waffle and an expresso while catching up with the news on my iPad. A good alternative to hotel breakfasts. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Nice owner run cafe ambiance.

Holly H.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced and owner is an asshole. Rude when giving you your food, and coffee was watery. Chorizo burrito was pure egg.
google avatar

Lizzie D.

Yelp
Went here multiple times! The staff was amazing. So friendly and enjoyable. The atmosphere was super cute and I wish I had had the time to stay and sit for a while in there. The drinks were also yummy! Would certainly recommend this place to others!

Yelp
Have now been here 3 times, same experience each time: -Dangerously expensive. Even for Aspen, this place will leave you $40 poorer and still hungry. -Takes a bit longer than it should to order & get your food. Don't go if you're in a hurry -Breakfast burrito the size of my finger. 17 bucks (photo attached). Tastes good but nothing special. Overall, 3 stars because I'm a nice guy.

Yelp
Still amazing after all these years. Great salads, soups, awesome vegan breakfast burritos served all day. Really good sandwiches too. We love jour de fete.
google avatar

Charlie S.

Yelp
Just look at the photos attached and you'll see why 1 star is generous. What you're looking at is a "grilled cheese" that I actually paid real money for at Jour de Fete. My 9 year old cousin could do a better job and that is not an exaggeration. It's like they didn't even try. Actually, it's like they tried to make it the worst grilled cheese ever made. Truly pathetic.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Friendly staff, prompt service, decent coffee selections, but food was plain. Very popular place though

Zz K.

Yelp
One of the worst breakfast places we have ever visited. Looks cute outside but don't be deceived. They have some nerve to charge 20% gratuity on such terrible food. Go anywhere else is my advice

Yelp
My fam and I stopped in here for breakfast one morning while in Aspen. Everyone was in the mood for something different and it was a nice and easy option. In the end, we ended up with breakfast burritos, a strawberry and cheese croissant, salad, smoothie, coffee, and matcha latte. I stole a few bites of my husband's breakfast burrito and it was really good! There were so many eggs in there, so it was super filling. The croissant was mine and reminded me of a Toaster Strudel. All in all, I think everyone walked away happy. There are tables inside, as well as outside on the patio. You order at the counter and it can be rather crowded in the morning, so make sure you're ready! From there, the food came out fast. It's a casual spot but things can add up quickly. That being said, I would come back for another breakfast or lunch while in Aspen.

David C.

Yelp
Couldn't make up my mind on the quiche, he offered 1/2" of each. I was sold! Also, the blueberry scone was heated!

Yelp
Jour de Fete is a decent spot to grab a quick bite in Aspen. They open at 6 A.M. daily, which seems to be the earliest that any place in town opens. The menu has a lot of breakfast and lunch options on there, and Lavazza is the brand used for the coffee drinks. I have gotten breakfast at Jour de Fete a few times. The food is a little pricey, but everything in Aspen is expensive. The breakfast burritos are an affordable and tasty option for a light meal though. I also go for the day-old scones or croissants as well, which are discounted to only a buck or two and are still just as yummy. Overall, the food seems to be okay, but I do not recommend the waffles - my friend ordered that once and was not able to eat much of it due to it being as hard as a rock. There is a little outdoor dining area, but I prefer to get my breakfast to-go so that I can enjoy my food in the comforts of a warm and cozy place like my home. The staff is friendly, and the store also sells a few local food items. There can be a short line during peak times, but the wait time for the food is pretty short. Overall, Jour de Fete is a super convenient spot to grab some coffee or a bite to eat.

Yelp
Cannot recommend enough. To speak on timing, we have had zero wait for our food, ever. In fact, this place has been so good, we got here three days ago and have been here every single day. The Jersey roll + the spinach bagel are to die for. Love the mocha & white chocolate latte. The breakfast sandwiches are comparable to the ones we had in Paris, soft bread, perfect eggs, delicious cheese. Of course it's pricier than your usual cafe, but it's aspen. Anywhere you go is going to expensive, they need to ship everything up thousands of feet so....yeah. Welcoming environment, super nice owner, quality food. If you are on vacation & want cozy, full belly, Mountain View atmosphere-this is it.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Wonderful soups, sandwiches and breakfast items. Everything I have had here has been good. Prices are reasonable which is nice in this town!

Ed S.

Yelp
I wanted this place to be great, as I'm staying nearby all Summer. But the food is worth a fraction of what is charged for it. The seemingly teenage staff would clearly rather be anywhere but here. Very nice appearance and location, but disappointing experience-- plain everything. No sleeves for scalding hot coffee cups. Dry toast. Weird eggs. A smattering of potatoes. Proof that merely having a business in Aspen is enough to get by.

Tatyana S.

Yelp
Ordered sweet potatoes in my bowl - got steamed carrots. When I carried my plate back to the cash register (there are no servers, btw, but they still charge you 20% gratuity), the manager happened to be there. He was extremely rude and kept telling me that the carrots I had on my plate were actually sweet potatoes. He got extremely aggravated with me, so I just walked back to my table and ate the darn carrots. There were large pieces of egg shells in my eggs. Worst food and customer service...
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Used to be great and affordable. Now it cost $17 for a bagel sandwich and they missed the Basil. Very disappointed, and no reason to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice little restaurant in the heart of the city. They have nice outdoor sitting area as well. The food was good with decent portion size. I had the vegetarian burrito which was good but had too much potatoes in it. I would have given this a 5 star if the potatoes were a small side and there were more vegetables in the egg. Also, burrito really needs a sauce it's really dry. They did not bring any condiments with the food. The supermax (name of the dish) was good but also needed condiments. The coffee quality was excellent. I think this is a 5 star place for coffee.
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
Came here to get few pastry to go on the way to the airport. What a cute little deli/Cafe. A Frenchman who was helping me I assume was the owner, he was very friendly and helpful. I was looking for chocolate croissants but it was around 3:30pm and they didn't have it anymore, so I got spinach croissants instead and it was yummy! I also got pineapple upside down and it was to die for. The bran blueberry muffin was good but need little more sugar to get the kick of it. Overall the service was excellent and the pastry were delicious! I would like to try other food that they have next time on my next visit. Thank you Jour de fete!
google avatar

Rory P.

Yelp
Had a prosciutto, mozzarella, and tomato sandwich. Was a bit pricey ($22) but delivered on quality and taste. Bread was fantastic - perfectly warm like it was fresh out the oven. It's probably more of a 4 star given the price but seeing that this place has 3 stars seems unjust so bumped up to 5!
google avatar

Sirius B.

Yelp
A 1 out of 5 stars might be a little harsh but I'm a breakfast guy and couldn't even get through a quarter of my breakfast. I ordered the scrambled eggs, a side of bacon, and oatmeal. The eggs tasted like hospital eggs, and if you've been fortunate enough to avoid hospital eggs, then the eggs appeared and also tasted like prepared under-seasoned scrambled eggs that sit on a metal serving container that you lift the lid on and cut out a serving for yourself. The bacon was over cooked, badly. Burnt overcooked bacon doesn't count as being crispy either. The oatmeal was a congealed mess. I ate the oatmeal like I would a pint of frozen Ben and Jerry, scraping layer by layer. My wife got an egg and cheese breakfast croissant. When she saw I wasn't really satisfied with mine, she gave me a portion of hers. As I went to take my first bite I thought, "please don't taste like Burger King croissant" but after I took my first bite I thought "I wish this tasted like Burger King". It just had such a weird taste.
google avatar

Audrey K.

Yelp
Tasty coffee, food, etc., IS NOT the issue. Only ONE employee was burdened today with all of the labor, and this made the worker frustrated and rude to customers and the customers verbally unhappy with the service. My friend was also overcharged and given a very unsatisfactory meal, which is not surprising considering ONE employee can only do so much! Close the restaurant for the day if you do not have the labor! We are still in the middle of the pandemic and cases are surging. The locals will understand. The stress isn't worth it or worth the bad vibes that were as thick as pea soup.
google avatar

Marla L.

Yelp
Ordered a Rueben sandwich. Now this is one of my favorite sandwiches so I should know what it entails. Lettuce and a tomato have never been on one Rueben that I've ordered. And it always has sauerkraut in it. But this one didn't come with any. Despite the fact that the menu included it. So I asked if they were out as mine was missing it. I was brought a "side" of about a tbsp of cold sauerkraut. Now I also realize I was in Aspen and know the prices are stupid. But to pay $17 for this tiny sandwich that wasn't even what I ordered, made me mad. Plus the fact that no shits were given for the mistake of not making the sandwich I ordered, notched that up a bit. But the real travesty was that the owner and the chefs were French!!! So I guess they don't care what they are serving. My suggestion would be to go down the street to Jus Aspen where they have a small menu but make REALLY great sandwiches, salads and wraps. My personal fave is the chicken wrap.
google avatar

Glenn F.

Yelp
Walking in no prices anywhere. Wtf. They can charge you anything they want. Burrito was worst I ever had. How do you screw up a breakfast burrito. Even the coffee sucked. Avoid this place

Karen S.

Yelp
Charming family run place with a personal service touch. Great soups and warm and cold sandwiches. Casual setting and high quality ingredients. Walking distance from the slopes and hotels.
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
Overall not satisfactory even in times of covid. Popeye salad had maybe 1 oz of very dry chicken in it. Asked for a different dressing on side which I did not get. Also ordered a bowl of soup and a cup of a different soup. Both were given to us as a cup. The French onion soup had no cheese and was WAY over salted by any standard. Asked if we wanted bread with soup. Failed to mention it costs extra no served with it. It was take out. I should have been less trusting. All in all paid almost $50 for what I felt was worth $22. Will avoid for lunch. Maybe the breakfast is better?
google avatar

Makayla C.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible. My eggs were hard as a rock, almost like they were microwaved, also never got the toast with my meal. My sister's omelet was fine. My other sister's salad came out 20 mins after our food and the chicken was rubber. Was especially disappointed because last year we enjoyed our meal. Paid $70 for nothing.
google avatar

Kristina B.

Yelp
Momma always told me beware of restaurants that don't have a full parking lot, in this case there were only a few people here. Should have taken a clue. Small lunch menu, poor quality, iceberg lettuce on sandwhiches and ridiculous prices. We had two ruebens and one turkey sandwhich, $50. One piece of meat on the reubens. Soups were chicken noodle and french onion, zero creativity there. Not worth it at all. Head to Butcher around the corner and wait in line, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Pearly L.

Yelp
This place is cute honestly and the man at the register is very nice , my issue is my $16.50 omelette (mushroom , ham and peppers) that came with nothing , you have to pay extra for a bagel, toast, croissant or hash. The omelette was thin and falling apart, it's expensive for nothing . . Honestly just go to somewhere. Portions are small we like to get value for our money we are not living in Aspen .
google avatar

C P.

Yelp
Maybe we got lucky, but we ordered the breakfast burritos, and they were about the best I've had. I ordered the vegetarian with the pick and hubby ordered the chorizo. They offered their house made hot sauce and it was delicious. Portion size was perfect: not too big not,too small. Service was fast and friendly. Coffee was good (not great)- I can always taste the paper influence in to-go cups, kind of ruins coffee for me, but I admit I am a coffee snob. The tables turn over fast, and they don't clear and clean as fast as they turn over. The pastries look amazing, but we did not try them. The price was right for what we ordered. We will be back.

Kate P.

Yelp
Best eggs in Aspen. They do an outstanding job and you feel like you are Paris!! So glad you are here. We will be back! Thank you!!
google avatar

Tova B.

Yelp
cake back here again for to go but it took about 40 minutes for two salads to be made. that's crazy. it shouldn't take that long. also, i asked for my dressing on the side last time and it wasn't on the side. i normally wouldn't care but the salad is for later and it got soggy. then for the second time they got it right, but the avocado in our salads are like weirdly brown?? if i'm paying $20 for a salad it should be the best salad in the world.

Steven S.

Yelp
Overpriced microwaved burritos that were more inconsistent in temperature than the current climate.

Katie S.

Yelp
My fave breakfast/lunch place in Aspen. The staff is friendly, food is yummy and they have so many options. This is the best iced coffee in town. I like how they have such a big menu, have tried multiple things and everything is delicious!

Mindy S.

Yelp
I really was excited to go here, Saturday t looked so fun from the outside and an extensive fun menu. Unfortunately we didn't get our food for over an hour! Yes, it was busy but the guy (in our party) who ordered two people behind me got his food in 5". I asked after a 1/2 hour, my sister asked after 45" waiting and finally got out food an hour after ordering and 55" after the other In our party who ordered AFTER me!!! And then he had to ask for his coffee which never came after we finally got our food! I had the Luigi and it was sketch. The Denver omelette my sister had had no cheese in it!

Tom S.

Yelp
$34 for a Greek salad and some lentil beans. The Greek salad had no olives and when I went to open the lentil beans the lid of the cheap plastic deli container wasn't on tight and it went flying everywhere. Absolutely high prices for not so high quality. So sad, because this location has amazing potential
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
If you are looking for delicious and fresh croissants, don't go anywhere else in Aspen than Jour de Fete. If you come earlier in the morning, you can enjoy one for $3. I've never had anything else because the prices are a bit higher than my budget, but this is one of my favorite treats. The tiny shop has about ten tables and chairs to eat breakfast at, but if you have the time, eat on the patio. The hanging baskets are lovely and you can enjoy an Aspen morning.
google avatar

Natasa E.

Yelp
Delicious delicious delicious .highly recommend this place. Was walking around. Cooffe good and oj really good. and saw this little cafe and oh was it worth it. The Mickey Bagel is delicious. Omelettes were ok.
google avatar

Donna M.

Yelp
I wish we would of discovered this place the day we arrived, because we would of eaten there each day. First off, the owner is one of the nicest people we met during our stay. On our second trip to his shop, he remembered us from the day before, and our coffee order. The quiche was so good!

Marissa R.

Yelp
The best breakfast spot in Aspen! The service is unbelievable: friendly, helpful and attentive. Coffee is fantastic; food is fresh and delicious. Prices are reasonable and average for the location. This will be our dedicated breakfast spot for years to come when we're here in Aspen.
google avatar

Robin P.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick breakfast on our way out of Aspen. We ordered the Mickey bagel sandwich and the chorizo burrito to share. Was delicious and fresh. Enjoyed it outside on their patio on a gorgeous autumn day. Super dog friendly. Would definitely come back!

Victoria K.

Yelp
if you are looking for that cold, runny taste free breakfast, this is your place. $66 for two breakfasts and two chocolate (no they were actually natella) croissants that we threw out.
