Joy Theater

My 1st time catching a show here, we came for the Alok *comedy show. The theater seemed smaller than I thought it was, but that might be due to us being on the upper levels and not really being able to see anything below us other than the stage. The view was good and the audio was clear. There was a warmup musical act so it wasn't just vocals. The show itself was excellent, I wasn't familiar with Alok before, but thoroughly enjoyed their set. While they are technically a stand up comedian, they were very adept at mixing in the poignant with the laughs. At one point they were almost sermon like, soliciting approving head nods and loud exclamations of agreement from the crowd. We pregamed at Luke's so we didn't hit up the concessions although I did buy an alt drink which was priced normally for the area. I look forward to trying to catch some more performances here in the future.

Venue is very nice. Drink prices are outrageous. 2 double shots of Crown $39.46, I could have bought a fifth of Crown for $29.00 Next time I go there, I'll be sure to drink before I get to venue.

We went for the Elevation Rhythm show on Feb. 5, 2026. Less than 3 songs in, my husband and I had to go out to the lobby because we both felt like we were going to pass out from the heat. Many other people were in the lobby as well. One woman did, in fact, pass out. We spent the rest of the evening sitting on the floor of the lobby instead of enjoying the show with our granddaughter. It may have been 50 degrees outside, but with 1,000 people in the same room plus lighting and sound equipment, etc., turn on the air conditioner!!!! I'll never go back there. I am giving two stars only because it was nice to see a historical building beautifully restored and put to good use.

Bring earplugs. It's..... Loud. Good music though. Competent and friendly staff. They should get a sign to let people know that vendors are upstairs.

Went to the Joy Theater for the first time to see The Plot In You and I was very surprised on how big the inside is. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had a top floor with seats, clean bathroom, and bar! The sounds and lights were amazing. I would definitely come back here for a concert!

We had a blast over the new years run with STS9 at the joy theatre. Bartenders were kind and generous, sound inside was amazing. The balcony was a nice step up but I really enjoyed the general admission dance floor as well. Only issue I had w the venue was that when we had balcony tickets the attendants on the balcony kept asking where we belonged or if we had tickets... surely a better way exists than interrupting the show over and over to ask if we belong on the balcony.

Joy theater, unlike many other venues in New Orleans, has a great sound system and the stage is set where nearly anyone can see them regardless of where they may stand. The staff was cordial. My only complaint is not having a cash function with their bar.

We had a ball and everyone was 100% nice, warm and inviting. I will be back. Best night ever!!!!!!!
