Well I had high hopes....
LOVE Little Coyote and found out about JR's on social media. I live about 30 min away and I'm quite busy so it took quite some time before I was actually able to drive back out to try it. Decided my Birthday was the perfect special occasion to get JR's (as pasta is my favorite) to go and eat by the beach.
Ordered online and drove out with my husband and mother (who was here from out of town) so we could just pick up and go. First hiccup was that they were out of chicken and meat balls - basically no real protein option to add to the pastas (other than bacon). We thought oh well, we will work through it (we hoped) and just have pasta and sauce.
We ordered three different dishes to try and they all looked good once we picked up. Portion size is great and everything seemed hot and fresh.
The first dish was decent (nothing special), the second was very bland and runny in texture, and the third had basically no flavor at all. It was covered in sauce, but literally tasted like plain cooked watery noodles.
We accepted defeat and went home disappointed.
By the end of the night, all three of us were in the restroom with food poisoning. My mother (67 years old) was sick for 3 days to the point where she was considering going to the hospital. Luckily it passed but we were greatly disappointed. For the price (approx $22 per dish), we expected much much more and definitely NOT to get food poisoning from three separate dishes. More than anything, we were concerned with the health of the chefs or the cleanliness of the kitchen (one of the two must have caused us to become ill).
Such a shame because pasta is my favorite and they do such a good job with their presentation/social media. Consume with caution....
Sadly, I will not be returning for pasta - I'll stick to the pizza next door at their sister restaurant Little Coyote.
