A busy little local gym with phenomenal food at a great value! The service wasn't as friendly with the server as I had hoped. However, everyone else working there seemed to be having a good time and be very chatty with all of the regulars. There was a wait because it's a cute little gem of a place. I certainly found the downtown area inviting and welcoming with parking available. Our server was friendly and professional, just not very warm chatty or quick with refills and checking back. It was more of taking orders, dropping stuff off and delivering the check but they were very busy.

Busy place in the heart of downtown Laramie. Had it recommended to me a few times, finally got a chance to come down and it was worth it. Great prices for that hometown diner feel. Great for breakfast on a budget. If driving through Laramie, try and stop by if you can.

Google
Fast service in this little joint. Had one of there house special Breakfast Burrito smothered in green chili sauce, good price-point. Would have loved to be able to try their chicken fried steak or their biscuits and gravy. Maybe next time. All of their tables in the front area were almost full when I walked in, but as I had breakfast the crowd was served and sent on their way while I took my time. They turned their tables quickly and I didn't see any customers waiting more than a minute or two to be seated.

We LOVED this small, hometown, community filled cafe! We had friends who recommended we go there and we were not disappointed. We were greeted the moment we walked in by Moni, and she took great care of us while we were there for breakfast. It was nice to see and hear many of the locals start their day here. My husband devoured the burrito, and my breakfast was delicious as well. We took food to go and it was well prepared and packaged nicely. I'm glad we saw the info on the history of this location. It explained a lot about many of the things on display in the back area near the restrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and will definitely be back if our travels bring us to Laramie again.

Google
This little cafe is a MUST visit while in Laramie. The service was top notch, our server was friendly, personal and attentive! The food was delicious and very well priced! The portions are not giant but definitely fair for the price. We had “The Tower” which was yummy, as well as an omelette and the 2 egg breakfast! We also had a fresh baked cinnamon roll that are baked on site daily, it was VERY good too! This is a kid friendly diner and the parking options are plentiful! The bloody mary was priced right ($4) but wasnt amazing. We loved the place so much we bought a tshirt!!

This place stays packed for good reason. They execute a lot of different diner favorites at a consistently high level. Can't get pancakes at any time of the day though, which is a bit anti-diner. The service and food are worth the trip though, and pricing is very reasonable. Make sure to try a cinnamon roll, even if you have to get it to go.

Google
It's a small place with some rear seating and a rear bar. They offer discount alcoholic drinks even for breakfast. I got the Irish cream coffee, my wife got Kahlua and coffee. The sausage gravy and omelettes were terrific!!! We came her on a recommendation, and it was well with! They're open 7-2:00, so that's breakfast and lunch only. It was great, and we endorce this place totally!!! 👍👍👍

Google
J’s lives up to its billing. The Breakfast Burrito w/green chili was outstanding. Best green chili I’ve had in forever. The pancakes are light, fluffy & delicious! The staff is friendly and all wearing smiles. Our server Emily was the great!

Sydney B.

Yelp
A delightful atmosphere, great service, and delicious food! I got the Poor Man's Omelette and a slice of pie, which totally hit the spot. Of course, I couldn't leave without snagging a cinnamon roll for the road. Highly recommend this spot.

Kathleen B.

Yelp
It's been my numero uno since I was 4. Went from a Chinese inspired dinner spot to the most wonderful breakfast joint over the last couple decades. The green chili is a great flavor and good in a burrito. But catch me ordering a chicken fried steak and eggs for brekkie plus a cinnamon roll to go. Lunch is good too if you want to beat the crowd and get a patty melt - DROOL. It gets crowded on weekend breakfast so go before 8! No frills but great service.

Christopher M.

Yelp
The food was good, the ladies running the place were friendly, and it's in a great old building, I forget the history that I read off the menu, but enjoyed the experience. Next time I'm in Laramie I would definitely consider returning.

Ann R.

Yelp
The food was awesome. Chicken fried steak was perfect. Breakfast burrito was huge and the chili gravy is amazing. Fast service too!

Ace A.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot. I loved this place. One time I had the chicken fried steak sandwich!! The next time pork chops!! Service is top notch!! Ambiance is very country and just a great little breakfast lunch spot!!

Adrianne L.

Yelp
J's Prairie Rose is the kind of small-town, Mom & Pop diner that's getting harder and harder to find nowadays, so I'm really glad we ran across it! We visited on a Sunday morning, and the place was so full it was almost packed to the rafters! It's difficult to say why that might be, but I suspect it's because there's simply not a whole lot of other options for breakfast in this area... Tip: The biscuits and cinnamon rolls they serve here are house-made :-) We all had different things - I went with sausage, eggs, and hash browns. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. Service was quick and friendly, despite the fact the place was packed when we were there.

Layla G.

Yelp
Short: Wow! What a lovely hole in the wall! Delicious and worth the stop! Visited week of July 19th '23 I picked out this place because on yelp it was the best diner in the area. I didn't realize Guy Fieri stopped by! [Food] Chicken fried steak no gravy, over easy eggs, hash browns, fresh marbled rye toast [$10.99] Steak wasn't dry and well peppered. Batter didn't constantly fall off. Hash browns were perfect! Crisp top, not overly oily, bottom wasn't mush! [Service] seat yourself, waitress was nice and quick. Everyone friendly and knew a lot of locals - comfortable. Stopped by a few times if we wanted dessert and how the food was tasting. Overall, I truly loved my visit (food was fresh and delish and definitely served small town welcome vibes) and if I ever get the chance to come back definitely will try the breakfast burrito!

Scott L.

Yelp
Great service in a small space without ambience. Food... meh. I was not impressed with the "corned beef hash:" Hash brown potatoes topped with a few slivers of corned beef (so I'm told). Meat was so scantly added, it could have been bologna. Worse was the biscuit and gravy, biscuit was very light and good; gravy was awful: thin and tasteless.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Lots of history in this little place. Cozy up to the counter or grab a seat at a table. On a Friday around lunchtime, it was hopping. We grabbed one of the last two tables. My first choice was French toast but they don't serve after 11am so my second choice was a Denver omelette sans cheese sauce. It was good and the hash browns were excellent. So crispy. Husband had the club sandwich and tots. Also very good. Service was excellent, especially since it was so busy. Staff was on top of cooking, getting plates to tables, and clearing tables when the patrons left. Great system for getting folks in and out but never felt rushed. Great stop.

Beth R.

Yelp
Fantastic flavor Staff that was so knowledgeable Portions that were just right!! We were not locals but within minutes felt welcomed.

Chris B.

Yelp
Stopped by en route to yellowstone with the family. Checked yelp for ratings on breakfast spots and J's was top rated so we gave it a try. Turns out the establishment was on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. I can see why. The staff was incredibly efficient and attentive. This breakfast was awesome. Everything expertly prepared...quality crisp bacon, perfectly cooked eggs, and incredible fluffy pancakes. Wife had chicken fried steak. Everything was top notch. The star of the breakfast were the cooks. We had a decent view of the kitchen and watched them in action. The teamwork was incredible. Everyone working hard and you could tell they took pride in their work. We gave them a silent thumbs up and they nodded with a smile. Respect! I don't get out this way often but when I do I will return. If you're in the area give this team a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Billie M.

Yelp
We stopped here for breakfast this morning before we moved our daughter into the dorms. AMAZING breakfast! And the service was awesome! Don't skip the cinnamon roll!!! So so good!

Michelle A.

Yelp
Visited here a couple times while in Laramie. The first time we ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs + grilled pork chop and eggs. Both came with toast and hash browns. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I've ever had. The grilled pork chop was ok. It tasted burnt. The second time I ordered J's Philly steak with au jus. The meat was a little dry and the au jus lacked flavor. Other reviews spoke highly of their customer service. I ordered to go both times. The first time the lady at the register acknowledged me and helped me in a timely manner. The second time I walked in, they looked at me standing at the register. A simple "Hello, I will be right with you" would have sufficed. I waited about 10 minutes before I was helped. So service wasn't the greatest for me. This was also on a Monday morning and the restaurant was not busy/full.

Courtney M.

Yelp
My husband really enjoyed his burrito, I got the prairie rose breakfast, hashbrowns were really good. They were super busy.

Dixie B.

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped by today for breakfast at around 7:30. People were already there, and you could tell this was a favorite stop for most of them. We were immediately greeted by a waitress. She was friendly and helpful the whole time, and kept our coffee HOT! And it was good coffee. These two guys in the kitchen do a super job. White men can COOK! My omelet came out hot from the griddle, with a side of crispy hash browns. I had to have a little egg yolk, so I also ordered an egg over medium. It was perfectly cooked. Visit this wonderful gem! I think you'll enjoy it.

Ron L.

Yelp
I love this place! Any time I see home made corned beef hash on the breakfast menu I need to try it. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Very freshly made. The service was excellent. I loved the environment. It was stuffed with customers so I thought we'd have to wait but there's a whole other room in the back. I left wishing there was a restaurant like that near me in Denver. I will 100% be going back next time I'm in Laramie.

Candace S.

Yelp
Fast service from great servers. The breakfast burrito covered in green chile was so good!

Steve D.

Yelp
I visited my son in Laramie over Thanksgiving break and ate at this diner everyday that they were open. Cheap and delicious is how I like my breakfast, and Prairie Rose hits both. I sat at the counter each day and listened to all of the regulars coming in being warmly greeted by the friendly staff. I highly recommend this place if you're in the Laramie area.

Jim H.

Yelp
Always a great choice for breakfast and anything with green chile is amazing. This place was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and for good reason. I love the breakfast burritos and get them smothered!

C C.

Yelp
Truly great find! Love a good breakfast place, and J's Prairie Rose doesn't disappoint. This was actually my second visit here, and while I had an excellent traditional breakfast when I was through here two years ago, I decided to go with The Tower this time around. Imagine my delight when the special of the day was a variation of this item...the Chicken Fried Steak Tower. Talk about a power carb breakfast that was delicious down to the very last bite! The service has been friendly, fast, and top notch both times, and I would definitely stop here again if I am in town for breakfast in the future. Highky recommend a visit if you are traveling through town.

James G.

Yelp
Stopped in on my trip back to Seattle. Was pretty crowded but worth the wait. I had the tower. It was a biscuit with sausage, bacon hash browns and gravy and cheese. Was very filling and delicious. Well done guys

Gary Y.

Yelp
I love their food great and not skimpy. Service is wonderful 99.9 of the time. It's an old time dinner and the decor is perfect. The thing that I have to say some of the cooks shirts are ones I wouldn't want my young ones to see, so if they are with me I try to sit in the back dining room where they are not visible. Warning if you like your bacon soft order a different meat, their soft bacon is still pretty darn hard.

Lynn P.

Yelp
Slow service but completely worth it. The tower dish is eggs, gravy, cheese, biscuit, sausage, and hash browns. Gravy wasn't too sweet. The consistency was perfect to me. Also had the ham and cheese omelet. Could have used a little more cheese on it but overall it was good. Small restaurant-about 15 tables Convenient location Good food-I would visit again

Rachel C.

Yelp
I've heard nothing but good things about Prairie Rose and sadly it didn't really live up to expectations. I thought it was perfectly fine breakfast food but not something I'd jump out of bed for. I got the breakfast tower because I always want biscuits and gravy, and the gravy was flavorless :( My partner enjoyed his eggs, hashbrowns, and cinnamon roll so he'd probably rate this a bit higher. The space itself was crowded, loud, and not particularly cozy. A couple positives: Fast and kind service, even as the restaurant was quite busy, and the prices were fair. I think I'd give this place another try but keep my expectations low.

Jamie G.

Yelp
This place was so awesome. We came back the next morning again! Great food. Friendly service, and the ambience was all you could expect from a small Hometown diner!

Eli C.

Yelp
My favorite go to place in town. Preferably for breakfast with family when they visit.

Carrie M.

Yelp
Cute cafe. Excellent food & staff. A locals place for breakfast and lunch. A do over!!

Trey C.

Yelp
Classic breakfast in a small town. Can't beat it, honestly. Want a diner style breakfast with good eggs, biscuits and pancakes come here. The coffee is hot and black. Definitely a place to go before games!

Joseph F.

Yelp
Service was great and the server was chatty. I had a breakfast burrito and it was wet which was unexpected, but it was incredibly good. A little loud. It that's just because it's a popular spot! Amazing.

Shannon W.

Yelp
The food was delicious . The cinnamon roll was yummy so good I shared with my Fiancé and Father. I also got The Tower...it was so delicious and very filling. We were seated in the back room it was a little to loud due to a couple of loud obnoxious guys, and you can tell everyone else was annoyed but they seemed to be regulars so no one said anything to them. Otherwise the service was amazing and food was very good.

Matt S.

Yelp
We decided to grab breakfast in downtown Laramie so wandered into the prairie rose. Ordered an omelette and breakfast burrito which were both really good. This seems like one of the local spots in town as the staff new everybody they were serving. Nothing to exciting or trendy on the menu, but just good breakfast foods.

Heath J.

Yelp
The only negative thing to say is they need a bigger building! It's a little cramped! The service is fast and accurate and it is the best place to have breakfast hands down!

Bri R.

Yelp
Great little diner! Don't let the looks of the building fool you. This food was amazing. My son said it was the best French dip he's had!

Shane K.

Yelp
Great down to earth food. Diners always have the best hashbrowns. Two bummers, they were out of chocolate pie and they don't serve pancakes after 11am.

Amberli C.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food was wonderful and the restaurant was very quaint. I wish I lived out here so I could go back. Service was quick and efficient.

Rod S.

Yelp
The cinnamon roll was absolutely amazing! Our server was great and the breakfast burrito was fantastic! Definitely coming back!

Laurie P.

Yelp
What a great place!! Great old time diner. Staff was great food came out so fast and good. Will stop by again when coming through. Thanks for a great breakfast.

Bob I.

Yelp
Great place... Try J's Homemade Corned Beef Hash $8.99 Corned beef hash with peppers and onions. Served with two eggs and biscuit and gravy. Nice portions

Renee B.

Yelp
The food here is so good!! We got the 7220 burrito and the sausage & egg scramble with the biscuits and gravy & hash browns. The sauce on the burrito was amazing. There servers are so nice and the food came out really fast. Super cute diner style restaurant.

Michele M.

Yelp
Service was great for such a busy place. The wait was short, less than 10 minutes. Food was good, can't go wrong with whatever you choose. I had the burrito with green chili. We sat at the bar and had a great time talking to the people next to us and to the staff.

Herb W.

Yelp
J's Prairie Rose -- What a gem! I wanted some serious breakfast and that's what I got. Take a look at that plate I posted, which they aptly named "The Tower". Biscuits and gravy, Plus eggs, Plus sausage, Plus hash browns. That golden egg yolk soaked down into the biscuit and I knew I had found Prairie Heaven. I'm a New Yorker so I have high expectations for coffee. I expect strong, early, repeat. J's really delivered, fast and frequent. I could hardly have been happier. In fact, I decided the one thing that actually could make me happier was a slice of home-made pie. Please refer to my picture, "Save room for the home-made pie". The one thing that made me happier. What a great pie, make sure you save a little room for it. The crust is not easy to get just right! J's Prairie Rose got it just right. Let's talk about the service. It was So friendly. As busy as it was, and it was brisk the whole time I was there, the staff were all just as nice as pie. Again, refer to the picture. That pie, that's how nice everyone was. I felt as welcome as if I were in my own regular diner back home. And the cost: Very Reasonable. I dropped like $13 bucks. I enjoyed myself so much that I got up early the next day so I could have another breakfast before heading out of town. If you're in Laramie, make sure to visit the Prairie Rose. If you're in Cheyenne, drive to Laramie and visit J's Prairie Rose. If you're in Denver: still worth the trip. Thanks, J and family! See you next time I visit.

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Well, I have to say their service was really good. We came in a busy Sunday morning and we had to waited for 45 min to sit in a crapy bar area. But all staffs in the restaurant were still really nice although they were really busy. We had to wait another hour to get our food. So came out the pork chop was a bit too dry. I can related they all worked hard and never get a break. All three stars for all of the staff. Not sure I will have to chance to try the better food again but I can't give another star for the breakfast and burned toast.

Syrena H.

Yelp
Good comfort food, great prices! Awesome service, it's always busy and the wait staff is on top and friendly.

Wren S.

Yelp
It's not often you get a great little café just off the highway. This local café is right off 80 about 1 mile and serves great traditional diner food. On a Wednesday morning they were packed so that must tell you something. Even with the camper you can find a side street to park on and walk. We enjoyed a traditional breakfast, great coffee and an awesome homemade cinnamon roll. They even have their own Merch and it's always great to support local. Definitely worth a stop on your road trip.

Rachelle P.

Yelp
Sweet spot. Delicious food. Simple & straightforward but creative & delicious. Scratch made goodnesses - green chili, gravy , cinnamon rolls all spectacular Delightful staff! Busy but very attentive. Never seemed rushed.

K S.

Yelp
The food was fast, hot and tasty as usual. The waitresses are friendly and efficient. We will return the next time we are in Laramie!!

Mark M.

Yelp
Nice gem in a quaint town! We had the burger steak and chicken fried steak plate for breakfast.. price is right and taste is good..

Pete G.

Yelp
I highly recommend J's Prairie Rose. Hands down they serve the best cinnamon roll I have ever had. We shared one as a starter and boy I'm glad we did!! The food is fairly priced and decent serving sizes too. We had a 20-25 minute wait for a party of four. It's a small place but worth the wait to try it! The service is great with a cool atmosphere.

Aspen B.

Yelp
SO GOOD! going to be my and my boyfriends new place!! the staff seems like they enjoy being there and it makes the experience so good! our food was fast and delicious, even though it was so busy! i promise, you won't be disappointed
