We stayed for a week on a Saga holiday in early October.|The hotel staff, expertly managed and supported by Margot their manager, provided excellent service at all times and were quick to respond to individual needs such as specialist dietary requirements. They appreciated our efforts to speak to them in Spanish.|The Saga Holiday Guide, Belen, was 5*. She was always available, dealt competently|with 2 emergencies which occurred during our visit, and showed energy and enthusiasm for everything.|There is direct access from the hotel to a wide, undeveloped beach,|The dinner menu for Saga guests had 3 choices for each course and guests are asked to make their choices for the following evening after finishing each evening's|meal. This is an excellent way to reduce food waste. Local ingredients were used wherever possible, We were highly satisfied with the menu choices, the quality of the food and with the service.|Our room was spacious and well equipped.

Having visited previously for 2 nights as independent travellers on our way to the ferry. We were so impressed that we chose to return for a two week, all inclusive, Saga trip. |A welcoming hotel, with wonderful loyal staff, some of whom have been there for many years. Speaks volumes about the management. |The food is very good, with a Spanish accent. Chosen from a menu each evening for the following day, this efficiently avoids excess food waste.|The rooms are comfortable, and well maintained by the chambermaids. Absolutely adequate, if not luxurious. There are several areas with comfortable seating for reading.|The direct access to the beach is lovely. Watching the surfers, and rocked to sleep by the sound of the sea.|Belen, the amazing Saga rep is just the best. No request is overlooked. She just works so hard to ensure that all goes smoothly. She is regularly available around the hotel so that her guests feel cared for.|Margot, the lovely owner/manager took us to the kitchen to teach us how to make proper Spanish paella (I am trying!) also for a little wine tasting. The Albariño is delicious. |To sum up. A really restful holiday.

We stayed as part of a Saga group and have to say that the hotel was brilliant in so many ways. It’s quite different to the usual type of holiday hotel frequented by many holiday makers. It’s in a fantastic location overlooking a vast and totally unspoilt beach. We found it to be authentic, unique and genuinely Spanish in all aspects. We enjoyed lovely food, both at lunchtime and in the evenings. All the staff seemed to thoroughly enjoy their week and the owner was often around and clearly runs a great business.|Would love to make a return visit next year.

This was our second visit and even better than our first visit in 2019. We travelled by coach with GBTours and everything was wonderful - Andy, our driver, brilliant as always. It was also good to see how popular this hotel is with independent travellers and locals. The hotel is just as tidy, immaculate and comfortable as before and all the staff, without fail, were warm, welcoming, friendly, helpful yet completely professional. Our sea view room with balcony was just like the picture on the hotel website. The breakfasts, tapas and evening meals were delicious with a very good choice. The local beers, wines and sangria were also thoroughly enjoyed. We will return for a third visit!

My wife and i recently returned from a tour of Spain's Breen Coast. Our base was the Juan de la Cosa Hotel in Santona, Cantanbria. Our stay was superb. It was all inclusive, the food and drink were excellent. We had a sea view room with a stunning view. The room and hotel was immaculately clean. The service at reception, bar and in the dining room was first class. Lovely indoor swimming pool. Local entertainment, talks and walks included. ||The hotel is located next to a mile long beach which was beautiful. Santona town was nice, and Santona is Cantabria's most important fishing port. 25 minute walk into town from the hotel or a short bus ride. Lots of surfing schools along a completely sandy beach. ||Santona is a great place to stop to visit Cantabria's northern coastal and mountain regions and to go into Rioja wine country. Great stay

Juan de la Cosa Hotel situated on Berria Beach.....one of the best experiences of our lives!! Such a beautiful location set right on the most amazing beach with fantastic views and 2km of wonderfully clean sand and fabulous ocean! A paradise for relaxing, walking, swimming, surfing and connecting with nature..so good for body and soul!! The Hotel staff are attentive, thoughtful, efficient and friendly....you could not ask for more!!!. The lovely cleaning ladies, the wonderful restaurant and bar staff and the always welcoming reception staff are a credit to the very present hands on owners of this incredible venue. From the beautiful food to the spotlessly clean rooms with breathtaking views this is a jewel in the crown of Cantabria. After a month's stay we didn't want to leave and cannot wait to return! The location is perfect for a beach retreat holiday or as a base to explore the many Northern Spanish Towns, Villages and Beaches within easy reach of the hotel as well as an opportunity to experience the local Fiestas and culture of this delightful area! This is a fabulous hotel in an idyllic location with the best welcome....who could ask for more!!!

Totally agree with Charles T we had a great holiday even though Easyjet mislaid my wife's suitcase for 3 days. The Saga rep Belen was very very helpful and spent hours on the phone to the airport chasing up WHERE the case went to.Apart from this, the food was fantastic as usual and we have already booked trip four for next year.|Do not agree with comments that suggest food is like 1950 English hotels it is like top class Spanish hotels with white table cloths and napkins served by cherry wait on staff. Rooms have wonderful views of the bay and are very clean.|Only downside is that Santona is a small village with few shops none selling clothes as we found out with the lost suitcase

This was the third time that my wife and I have stayed at the Juan De La Cosa with Saga, in the last couple of years. For us, it continues to be a delightful hotel that provides a sense of ‘coming home’ largely because it feels ‘Comfortable’ with a capital C. All of the staff are very warm and welcoming and the food and drinks are excellent.||The hotel is situated in an outstanding location overlooking a large and totally unspoiled beach with views out to the Bay of Biscay - in our opinion a real gem. It is very much a Northern Spanish hotel, unlike those you may have come across elsewhere in Spain, but it still manages to cater for the whims and vagaries of us British without losing sight of its Spanish heritage. The area is also very interesting with beautiful villages, towns and cities nearby to visit.||What makes the hotel particularly special for us are two people. Firstly, the Saga representative, Belen, who is a total delight - we have never come across such an amusing, caring and warm hearted representative who genuinely cares about her guests anywhere in the World. Secondly, the owner/manager, Margot, is just as delightful and caring and is also a very knowledgeable lady, especially about this area of Spain. Between them they make a great team who look after their guests wonderfully - nothing is too much trouble for them!||We hope to make a further return visit in the not too distant future.

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant. Have been following their food on Instagram for a few years and finally had the opportunity to have a proper comida. Rabas (squid) Pochas (seasonal beans) and Rodaballo ( a local white fish). Classic understated dining room with a beautiful view, great service, excellent food and fair prices. Even the bus load of retired English tourists murdering the Spanish language was taken in stride by the talented staff.
