I love this salon in Manhattan, my go-to when in town. Amazing service and professionals reside in this busy salon. I love facials with Oksana Shenker their lead aesthetician, Hair cuts by Louis Angelo master hair cutter and stylist. Last but not least my dear friend William Simon for amazing hair color, I love his golden shades and reds. Nails and Cappuccino rock here too. Xo

The stylist did a good job. But; there are hidden “up-charges”. We booked a 45 minute blow-out, and when we arrived we’re asked what style, we asked for a few loose waves. We were then told thar was extra as it needed an iron. Then, the 45 minutes appointment turned into about 70 minutes. It would be more upfront/honest to post timing and up-charges on the website. Blowout so much. With waves or curls so much extra, plus that will take extra time.

Went to NYC for the first time for my 30th birthday! Was lucky enough to see Alex Mason and get my first balayage. He is a blonde specialist and is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled in his craft. His holistic approach and the natural organic products he used was my favorite part! Love the convenience to see him in NYC and Palm Beach Miami! Looking forward to my next visit! Stefanie is a hair GODDESS. I have been seeing her for my hair for three years now and won’t go to anyone else. She is talented and has a superior eye for what works with someone’s face and style. She really crafts her cuts unique to the person, and that’s what I noticed in her clients photos from the start. I always feel great when I leave the salon, which is so nice. Most importantly, she is kind, caring, compassionate and considerate. You can tell she appreciates her clients. I always feel better after I see her. 10000% recommend.

This is my first review ever, but felt it was relevant for the benefit of others. I asked for a standard men’s haircut. After a 30-40 minute haircut, I was charged almost $400. I would have had no issue with this if it was mentioned before, as this price is outrageous compared to any other men’s haircut. The stylist was outstanding, so no issue with him. Though it was still just a basic haircut (at my request). The issue is with the business practice.

After spending six hours in a chair getting brand new extensions, I went to Julien Farel Salon for my haircut as I normally do. I asked for long layers and curtain bangs. Their stylist Patrick hacked off my hair in the most shocking way. It’s so bad that I have to put in new extensions in the front now and start from scratch, which will cost me siginificant money and time. Julien is refusing to pay for this mistake and replace my extensions. Julien will only cut my hair more, which means I have to accept a haircut I didn’t ask for or pay for. This used to be my favorite salon for cuts and blowouts in nyc, and I will never ever go there again and you shouldn’t either. Now we know that if something goes wrong, Julien will not do the right thing and is willing to lose customers over it. I’m shocked and appalled.

Pricey but you get what you pay for. Gyna from Ecuador was excellent and quite customer focused.

I've been following my stylist Herve around for two decades. Julien Farel Salon is his new home and what a luxury home it is. The salon manages to feel both luxurious and down to earth. Price-wise you absolutely get what you pay for. I feel fantastic after every hair cut with Herve. After a glass of champagne and a super haircut, my weekend is off to a good start.

Update a/o 2/16/24 - So recently I started bringing my mom with me to get our hair done here together as she's getting older, and I need to watch her a little more closely. I can't describe the joy, warmth and pampering she feels when she comes here. She's elated, and just to see that look of pure joy on her face is priceless. We are truly treated like family here. A great big heartfelt thank you to Patrick, Lila, Anjolie, Evelyn, Millie, Donada, Ella and the front desk team. PS - We love you guys!

This review may seem hyperbolic, but it is only the truth: With the closing of the Bergdorf Salon, part of team moved to Julien Farel: If you want the Bergdorf Blonde -- go see the King of Blonde, Luis Perez! Beyond talented, but ever humble -- Luis has been styling my hair for over 10 years. I became a client of his at Bergdorf after going to another very high profile salon where they fried my hair and I had to cut it off to my chin. Since finding Luis, I have never left. For the past 10+ years Luis has kept my blonde bright and healthy enabling me to grow my locks down to my butt. He always gives me a gorgeous, natural, and healthy color. Since 2014, (when I wrote my original review) his professionalism and artistry still rings true. After a color with Luis: - My blonde always matches with my complexion and I never look washed out - He colors it so it grows out beautifully and naturally -The reason I got to grow my hair so long is because my color from Luis is never over processed and comes out golden and healthy He is meticulous in every aspect of the coloring and works with you to achieve the look your want. Let's be honest, we all bring in photos of what/who you want to look like, but Luis has an eye for finding what looks best for you. I never really have to tell him what to do - just simply let him work his magic! I LOVE Luis Perez and if you love your hair don't take it anywhere else! Best haircut ever from Louis Angelo. It's chic and edgy and a fabulous transformation, perfect for a younger look. Louis is very calm and lovely to work with. He listens and doesn't push his ideas but they turned out to be perfect. He is a pro and very artistic. The salon is beautiful and everyone is friendly -- great vibe--welcoming and happy.

The salon does not disclose it's non-cash fee at the time of sale (more importantly -- they do not disclose it before). This is illegal. It is also illegal to charge more than the limit charged by credit card companies (which is 3% - 4%). The salon charges a flat rate fee of $17.50 no matter what card you use and no matter the amount of the services. This is also illegal. When brought to their attention they blamed a software glitch. This same glitch was blamed for the flat-rate $17.50 non-cash fee over a year ago. No one at the desk EVER discloses the fee -- not before, during, or after the transaction. You must make sure to get a printed receipt (they say they will email receipt to you but they NEVER do). Julien Farel's wife is the business-trained part of the business. She knows very well what she's doing.

I just got my hair colored with highlights at the Julien Farel Salon with Cathleen. She is extremely knowledgeable. We always have a consultation before she begins. She listens to what I want and knows what colors will look best. I always leave extremely happy and completely trust her! The salon is beautiful inside, and everyone is friendly and super attentive.

Sandrine has been cutting and styling my hair for at least 5 years! She really listens to my needs and knows how my hair will react to each season and the weather! She is so personable and fun to work with. Sandrine spends the time to make sure every hair is cut perfectly and her blow dry is fantastic. On the blow dry she also spends a lot of time and I leave looking perfect. Thanks Sandrine!

Love the salon, it's large and bustling, yet one feels private and heard. Ahhh, Miguel! His talent, Technically, you will not find better. He knows hair, he understands the look you want, he will tell you what's feasible and what will work specifically for you. His aesthetic is spot on. A true master! A work of art ... my haircut and Miguel's talent, skill and knowledge.

The first time I went here it was great! The second time it was okay and not worth the price I paid for my hair services unfortunately. The blow out was horrible, and the color looked very slightly different if not much worse (I had like three tones to my hair). Unfortunately will not be back! Update: Managers are awful! Just avoid this place ladies. Completely tried blaming me. For an "upscale" place like this! Wow. $400 down the drain! Please listen to me and not go here! Lipstick on a pig!

I saw Abby today. She spent maybe 20 min working on my highlights and went to see another customer. After she was done with her client she asked her assistant to tone my hair. I believe she kept my highlights too long because my hair got really destroyed. She never came to check on my color after toning. I couldn't believe the lack of attention I got. I paid $450 for the worst color I ever had. Never again! Now I need to go somewhere to fix it. This is how it looks in natural light.

Booked a senior colorist. (Daniel) Took me 30 mins late. I was in and out 90 mins (concerning for highlights) they look chunky bc he rushed. They are constantly asking you to move chairs to accommodate new people. The colorist didn't even ask to see the color after it dried. For $500 i expect such a higher level of service. The whole place is a factory trying to push people in and out as fast as possible. Try somewhere else. At Marie Robinson my colorist took 4 hours and was so meticulous. Going back to her.

First time at this salon. Went specifically for Gyna to have highlights done. Gyna is extremely skilled and knew exactly what I needed. The color is amazing. The support team were all very courteous and did a great job as well . Now my complaint. It's a big one. I was charged $65.00 for a blow dry after my color. I never scheduled the blow dry nor did I ask for one. The only reason I did not stop the assistant from giving it to me was I assumed it was complimentary with the color job. When I got home I called the salon and explained my problem with the charge and asked to speak to the manager about it. The person said she would ask the manager to call me back. Well that didn't happen so I called back about 2 hours later. The manager got on the phone and once again I had to explain the blow out charge. The manager was not understanding and told me I had to pay because I had in fact received the service. Once again I explained I never scheduled the blow out nor asked for the blow out. She said at this time she would not refund the charge but would speak to her team to determine who ordered the blow out. She said she would call me back ...... It's Dec 5, my appointment was in beginning of November.... I'm still waiting for a call back. For a high end NYC salon, my complaint was given zero consideration. Not what I would have expected after dropping $500 with tips. The situation basically said, we don't care about you as a customer, we don't care that there may have been a misunderstanding and we don't care if you don't come back. I have to say I was quite taken back. The only reason I gave the salon 5 stars is for the service provided. The MANAGEMENT deserves ZERO stars as the customer service skills are far below what this salon requires. I will be back because Gyna gave me great results and I will be clear next time about NOT wanting a blow dry !

I am totally in love with my new haircut and color! If you want to change something and have a perfect hair, you definitely HAVE TO go to Julien Farel! They are 100% professional!! They listen carefully to their clients. Before making an appointment they make a consultation to ask what you would like to do with your hair and also tell you what will be the best for you. I had an appointment with Hiro Araki who did my haircut and Raphael Mauriello who took care of my color (and I have to tell you that I had pretty combo on my head before haha)‍ they are just the best!

I came to the Julien Farel salon today in New York for a " Scalp and Hair Analysis", and they gave a hair scalp treatment and tried to convince me that they did not offer the analysis .So, I should the website to the manager with the services and she apologized, which did not help me.Besides that, I left the salon with a wet hair, they left waiting and nobody seems to be available to blow dryer it.Don't believe in their website, they offer services that is not developed it.Lot of people , but very very disorganized .I have had my hair cut by Garren, John Barret and my hair color by Kylie White when was never treated like in Julien Farel salon, I do not recommend it. I've always preferred when men cut my hair because I think they style more on what they think is attractive versus what's stylish so I was super excited when I received my stylist Davis. I was donating my hair so it was one of those massive change haircuts. Davis was super sweet and fashioned me with a very cool bob haircut. I've been getting tons of compliments even if I am a little scared when I don't feel my long hair in the shower. Everyone is super attentive and amazing. Fantastic head massage when they wash your hair. I can't wait to return for another pampering! I would definitely recommend this place for a great cut!

I love the salon. I get all my services there. Michael Farruggio cuts my hair, and he is amazing. I recommended him to three of my friends, and they have remained his clients. Victoria does my brows, and she is an absolute perfectionist. Nobody could do better. I use Oksana for electrolysis, and she does such a beautiful job. Noor does my nails, and I am very pleased with the service. The atmosphere of the salon is upbeat and friendly. The reception area is all about making the customer feel good. Everyone is nice. I highly recommend this salon.

abby Haliti is the absolutely most talented colorist! She has magic hands and truly could understand what look I was going for without even having to really explain myself. She's kind, and I felt very welcomed the entire time in her chair.

I visited today with my daughter for a mini spa day. My neck and shoulder massage was fantastic. However my manicure and pedicure was not. The shellac pedicure was supposed to last 1hr 15min and was completed in 45 min. We all know that the massage is the best part of the pedicure. The technician (who was lovely) rubbed lotion on each leg for about two minutes. Extremely disappointed given the amount of money paid. Has higher expectations for a premier salon.

After a 2003 keratin treatment went awry , I promised to never treat my hair ever again . Until the frizz got so bad that not even the strongest serums , oils and conditioners could keep it in check . After careful research, I found Rudy at Julien Farel and decided to take the plunge . I was incredibly nervous about the treatment but Rudy reassured me that de frizz treatments had come a long way over the last 20 years and poker straight , damaged ends were a thing of the past . While I felt better hearing this, I was not expecting anything miraculous . 3 days later , I showered and air dried my hair with no product and anxiously checked the mirror a thousand times while it dried . I look like a different person! My hair is shiny and silky but still has volume just as he had promised ! Rudy is a magician and I will be going back for continued treatments as they wear out. He has literally changed my life and freed up at least 30 minutes of my mornings ! Thank you Rudy !

I went there this past week base on Salon Apprentice. I met with Anjolie and she was very accommodating since I was running a half hour late because I didn't time my travels well. The minute I arrive I got a little confused on how to enter the salon and there wasn't any sign on the door to ring the bell. Probably would have help. Service: It was amazing. We did a consultation and I got to get her opinion on what I can do with my hair. I mention how I wanted something low maintenance since I didn't have time to dry or style my hair due to my current lifestyle. I gave her a few styles that I was considering and she helped guide me to what she thought was best. However she kept it optional and told me I could change my mind during the cut. She was absolutely friendly and I would definitely recommend her. Environment: They kept everything clean even during my hair cut. They had someone always walking around making sure to sweep the hair off the ground, even if it was during a cut. They also had great lighting to be able to see yourself and kept things on point. Overall: I would recommend this to someone. I did go through a free service due to my budget, but they treated me as a paid customer. Anjolie went above and beyond. She even told me other things they provided there and try to help make things affordable for me. AMAZING!

Highly recommend Michael for cuts and styling! Rudy is great for anti frizz treatment and heard Chloe is amazing at all things color! The salon and the restore products are incredible and you know that Julien, Suelyn and team really took feedback into their products and are great to the community putting customer concerns first. Raphael restored my blonde with a root touch up, removal of brassiness, and with a chic style. I have LOTS of hair and he was patient, and made sure that I would love my hair. would definitely recommend if you are a natural brunette like me and wanna try blonde! plus i am in love with my highlighted roots! cant wait to come back

I had the best haircut experience with Hiro Araki today. He attentively listened to what I wanted and gave great feedback. He was extremely professional, courteous, meticulous and precise with my cut and talked me through each step as it was happening. I have a Japanese straight perm so he suggested we leave my layers longer so that the straight perm will continue to look good as my hair grows out. I'm absolutely in love with my cut and will definitely be coming back to see Hiro next time. Thank you!

I recently had a knee surgery and before surgery, I was in a very rigorous physical therapy program. I finally recovered enough to look in the mirror and realize I was a hot mess and needed a serious makeover. Enter: Tina at Julien Farel. Tina is an absolute joy!! She's not only a master hairstylist but incredibly sweet. She did a thorough consultation to ensure we would get the best possible look. We decided that to get to the result, I wanted (long layers) I would have to reshape it by trimming some off now then gradually grow it in. She took her time to pay attention details in the shape and the way it moved. Hard work pays off because the result is truly perfection! I know this is just a haircut, but for someone who is dealing with surgery recovery and some medical stuff, it much more than that. She did revitalize me from the inside out! I feel confident and ready to get back out in the world! Thank you so much, Tina!!

I'm a client who resides in Baltimore and travels to NYC for services at JF. During the winter months when train cancellations and delays are frequent, I would think JF would be understanding of situations beyond their client's control. Yesterday's early morning trains were delayed and I called the salon two hours in advance of appt. to request my appt be moved to the next weekend or on a weekday next week where I could schedule myself to work from our NYC office. Was told that I'd be charged the full amount for missed appt (nearly $600) and they could not accommodate my request. Sadly, this will be my last interaction with JF.

Loved my hairstylist Hiro Araki. He is the best hair stylist I've had since I moved to the US over 30 years ago from Europe. Ask for him to do your shampoo as well. He uses a Japanese technique and it's the best for the hair. My hair has grown healthier ever since he's been doing my hair. For color, I do blond highlights. I only trust Mike and Lila. They're both super good. Mike performs miracles especially on damaged color.

Just had another great haircut with Danielle! I don't know how she does it but my hair looks thicker after a haircut. One of the great things about how she cuts hair is it never has that just cut look. The haircut looks like you, just fresher and better! I call it the no-cut haircut!

I went there for blond highlights, I go back home with orange highlights, I came back for a red, sincerely they were super nice, the hairdresser tried to fix it but it was still orange, and my hair was destroyed, I would prefer if he just tell me that he can't do that color. Even if he told me that the problem was the fact that my hair was a little bit dark, I went to another salon, and I am just in love of what I have now !! But believe me maybe it's a good place for other things, but I wouldn't advice you to go there for highlights

Get yo'self pampered, elite style. After the elite event the other week, I came by this week to Julien Farel for my haircut. Before even visiting, I received confirmation texts which were really helpful in reminding me about the appointment. The day finally came and even though I was running a few minutes behind, they were prepared for me when I showed up. Upon arrival, my barber Yulia had me slip into a robe so hair wouldn't get onto my clothing. We then went to the wash station for a thorough shampooing and conditioning. The massage chair there was a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed the sensations both on my head and down my back. Yulia was really keen on figuring out what style haircut I wanted, asking about what I usually got, what I was looking for, and how I normally styled it. I honestly don't do too much to my hair, and she understood I was looking for something stylish but also low maintenance. She got to work and I just sat back and sipped my iced tea. The haircut ended up taking around an hour from start to finish. It was a much longer experience than I normally have, but I did enjoy every minute. Yulia paid so much attention to detail and made sure no stray hairs was to be found. After the cut, we went back to wash station for another rinse. She used a straight edge razor to trim my neck hairs. I got a few hot towels wraps and she gave me a quick shoulder and face massage. Not sure if it was because I was Elite, but nothing was held back and I got the full treatment. The final product was definitely reflective of the time put into the process. I loved how simple and clean the cut ended up being. While I did enjoy the experience, I can't say JF would become my regular barbershop. At $75 a cut, it's hard to justify my monthly cuts when I pay no more than $20 in Chinatown. However, should I be in the mood to pamper myself, I know just the salon and stylist to go to!

Come at your own risk ...bc once you have been treated to their services you will become an addict. I was introduced to this place through an elite only event and luckily was welcomed back to be treated to a complimentary appointment of my choice. At first I decided to go for a single process but later through careful consideration opted for a manicure instead. Booking and changing my appointment was easy and they are great at sending confirmation text. Once I arrived, the staff greeted me and right away introduced me to Margo who was extremely helpful and friendly! She led me right away to her station and offered me a refreshment and helped me pick Deborah Lippmann's blue orchid nail polish. (Its the cutest baby blue nail polish I have ever seen). Through the entire process she was kind enough to answer my questions about the business and we held such a lovely conversation. My manicure lasted for about 40 mins, and that includes the drying off portion as well. (They use this awesome liquid which dries your nails in mins). She also introduced me to Deborah Lippmann's cuticle oil which is a hydrating cuticle treatment to help strengthened my nails. I have been using it and can not wait to continue to apply it. Its $20 a bottle but it is a regular bottle size and I figured I would constantly be spending money trying to find a nail strengthener that may or may not work at my local duane reade store. Overall, this is the best salon/spa anyone could decide to try if they are looking for a place to spoil themselves. Always call to make your appointment bc they have a large amount of clients constantly utilizing their services.

I came here for a complimentary pedicure offered to Yelp Elites and the experience was phenomenal. I don't normally go for pedicures because I happen to abuse my feet on a regular basis and I am a bit of ashamed of all the cuts and wounds. But hey, I am a runner, and so I've had bleeding under the nailbed. I can also walk a 1000 miles in my shoes and well that leaves blisters. So I came here for my pedicure at 11am and very quickly after that Margo showed up and led me to the pedicure area. She drew a bath for me and let me soak my feet. She cleaned up my feet, filed down some hard areas, snipped the dead skin away and cleaned up the cuticle bed. She also gave a slight massage to my legs. After this, she applied nail polish. Then she informed me that the drying would take an hour (I was dumb and wore my combat boots instead of sandals). She said I could wait or buy a pair of flip flops for $5. When she brought the flipflops, she was accompanied by a manager and he told me the flipflops are complimentary. I then proceeded to ask him about the glass of champagne I ordered. He just laughed that off too. He tells me, "it is part of the experience." Wow. Great experience here. Staff always friendly and professional. They do a good job of pleasing people and making them happy. So I highly suggest this place to get your feet soaked and polished while sipping on a bubbly. It will be the icing on your cake.

Want attentive and respectful hair treatment? Look elsewhere. If you ever sign up for a haircut in this salon, don't expect respectful and attentive process. You might end up having your hair cut with dirty instruments with someone else's hair in it. What their senior stylist think about it? Nothing, it's OK for them to disrespect clients in this way to provide a service with dirty instruments. The senior stylist was very surprised to know that the instruments should be clean at least before, if not sterilized. It seems that the salon don't really care about sanitary conditions. I wish this salon treated ALL their clients with respect and provided attentive and polite service, not only superstars or celebrities, who may give hem some instagram photos.

Oh my goodness! If you want to be pampered, this is the place to go. What a fabulous color from Aiden and blow out with Hero. The stylists listened to exactly what I requested, so I left with a wonderful deep conditioning treatment, restored color, and powerful style. Even the assistants catered to me by bringing me tea, using a heated towel, and plugging my phone into the charger at my station. I could not have asked for a more pleasurable experience and fabulous results. Thank you so much. I am sending other family members over as well!

Julien Farel is an awesome guy - both personally and professionally! I love his philosophy of the client is always right - he came to personally greet me when I came for my appointment. When I made my appointment, I was told to arrive 30 minutes before. However, on the day of, I did not receive my confirmation text/call/email so I just arrived at the specified 30 minutes before appointment. Given my early arrival, I was seated in the lounge area and given refreshments as I waited. Julien was notified that I arrived early and came to greet me, which was a very personalized touch that made me feel like a valued client (+1 star). He came to let me know that the service I booked was actually running a little late (which was fine for me), but that in the meantime, Kate Matthius was available to give me a neck and shoulder massage while I waited for my Express Facial with Natacha Richard. Let me say Kate is a great massage therapist - he pinpoints areas that are super tense and I walked out super relaxed after a 30-minute massage with him. Right after, I got to head over to the Express Facial with Natacha. Although there is a list of different facial services available, they always start with understanding you, your skin, your skincare regimen, etc to see what your *needs* are. Based on this evaluation, they choose the right products to use. While getting your facial, you can ask many questions and tips for all your skincare needs. On my way out, I was greeted by the head of Operations at the Salon. Overall, definitely come here to get that true "pampered" feeling.
