Worth a visit—offers really high-quality, though high-priced, goods. Great spot for finding gifts for special occasions. However, it felt wasteful that they used two bags for every customer. Why not have more practical, sturdy bags that can hold heavy items and just use one instead?

Google
Very expensive fancy food shop. The range of product is very wide, from all around the world but the prices are higher than in normal supermarkets (ex. local ones). The service at cash was unnice.

This store has to be the gold standard in luxury food, coffee, wine, and pastries etc. A fantastic place to shop, the best of everything . Staff were very helpful in making recommendations. jo if you're in Vienna don't miss the store. It's in the heart of the city and has a little café also.

What a great experience. Just walking through the aisles to see the different colors is a pleasure. Having so many high quality products is secondary.

Great service, skilled baristas, and a delicious cappuccino. Loved the cozy atmosphere and the relaxing shopping experience.

Adorable high quality grocery store with a fantastic cafe. Fruits/veggies are superb, massive chocolate, wine, fresh seafood and cheese selection. Warm service from the bar. Truly enjoyed our little afternoon shopping and eating at this gem.

I absolutely loved this store! Everything is perfectly arranged, offering an amazing selection of products from all over the world, mostly Europe. They have a fantastic variety of coffee, chocolate, tea, meat, cheese, wines, and more. The packaging is beautiful, and the staff is incredibly friendly. It’s a true gem for anyone who enjoys high-quality goods and excellent service!

Yelp
Luxurious grocery store. But sadly their customer service left a lot to be desired. I was looking for a type of Viennese coffee and asked the staff at the Information. They said they don't carry this type and pointed me to the general area where coffee beans was found, without offering alternative options. When I paid, they didn't bother putting my purchase into the paper shopping bag.

Yelp
Fabulous luxury grocery store with a huge selection of chocolates and every other edible thing imaginable. We had dinner upstairs in the chic dining room with the orange sofas overlooking The Graben. Glasses of Gruner Veltliner went very nicely with our seafood risotto and pasta with wild boar bolognese. A very civilized way to spend an evening in Vienna.

Yelp
Part shop, part café, part restaurant is what describes Julius Meinl. We decided to come in and grab a cup of coffee and get a respite from the cold. I'd seen the signs for this place and I figured this place looks local to Wein so lets go in. The coffee was great, I go a cup of mélange, and my husband got irish coffee. Both were served with a small brownie and side of sparkling water to wash everything down. This place was pretty busy as we had to wait a few minutes for seats to open up at the bar, and the tall tables were occupied. Also within the store is a large grocery section which was pretty fancy sort of reminded me a bit of Dean and Delucca in NYC or one of those other high end gourmet food shops there. Also upstairs is a restaurant. If you want something to grab and go they have a to go stand just as you enter the building. We came to enjoy the coffee which we most certainly did. I'd happily come back for another cup.

Yelp
Julius Meinl reminds me a little of Alois Dallmyr in Munich - if you've got all the money in the world and want top-quality gourmet ingredients, they've got you covered. The wine and spirits section is comprehensive but mostly very high end in price. There's a beautiful cheese counter, homemade pastas, homemade pates & charcuterie and the most beautiful produce. They've even got a sauerkraut by the barrel - just scoop out what you need. The candy area had some of the most amazingly sculpted marzipan I've ever seen. In addition to their own brand, they carry higher end international brands too, like Charbonnel truffles and Godiva. I left with some Meinl-made pate de fruits (my favorite). If seeing all the delicious ingredients here makes you hungry, they've got a café which is predictably pricey. Most people won't do all (or much) of their shopping here but it's a fun place to explore and perhaps buy a gift or two. Also, I just discovered that Meinl has a location or two in Chicago!

Yelp
This Julius Meinl is basically a two-story cornucopia filled with a great selection of everything a food lover can think of. Conveniently located a spit away from the St.Stephan cathedral on the Stephanplatz square, it's really worth a visit if food is of any interest to you. Even if the prices of many products may be prohibitive for a weekend visitor with a limited budget, it's just such a nice inspiration for how a grocery store should ideally look like - all of the produce looks fresh, the assortment is vast, and the store is perfectly organized and ordered down to every single piece of fruit. I was particularly impressed with the selection of teas which I found better than in e.g. London's Selfridges or Harrods food halls. Next runner ups for me were the stocks of chocolates, marzipan creations and preserves, which would make for lovely gifts from Vienna. (Also, nothing pleases my eye more than a fresh looking lovely smelling fish and seafood counter - too bad that I don't live in the city to give it a try.) So yes, if you are visiting Vienna and want to bring back something more interesting than a Mozart ball to sample, do give this store a go.

Yelp
One of the hidden gem in the heart of the Wien! Right next to the "Meinl's Cafe" you need to go downstairs to the vine bar! That's where the secret is! Great variety of wines, decent food, great decor and able to smoke cigars! What more do you need. If you like to smoke cigars, drink wine and enjoy good food then this place is just for you! Follow on my Instagram account: oakyuz77 for more reviews and pictures. (Eat Pray Love..)

Yelp
A must visit. Having been around over 150 years, they are extreamly popular all across Europe-and considered a real luxury in America. Buy your Julius Meinl coffee in Vienna to save yourself nearly $10 USD per bag. You read that correctly. Rarely do coffee shops in the US have Julius Meinl, but when they do you can imagine it's just as expensive as your $5 starbucks coffee per cup . The store, restaurant, cafe experience is lovely to compare to the Julius Meinl locations in the states. You can buy your coffee beans at almost any local grocery store in Vienna, likely for cheaper then you can buy them at Julius Meinl in Vienna.

Yelp
If you like coffee this place will never disappoint you. Their coffee is great, their pastries out of this world and everything is very chic. Make sure to go to the market or enjoy a gelato next door. Highly recommended!

Yelp
This "mini-Harrods"TM in Vienna is everything it should be. Well stocked, great variety, well loved, good name and very highly priced. Even though there is a great selection of products, most of them can be bought for 10% less in one of Vienna's other supermarket chains. If you are in need of a status symbol shopping bag to take back home with you then this is the place. If you need something specific then look elsewhere, if it cant be found somewhere else or for cheaper then make a return trip here. Much like Harrods food hall in London is a fascinating place to wander around but window shopping is really all you should be doing here if you are really interested in getting a good deal.

Yelp
There are so many parts to this store it's hard to review in one sitting. I had lunch at the little cafe on the ground level, but since I had to use the restroom I got to go see the little wine bar in the basement and wish that I had started there before I had ordered. I also had to walk through the wine section to get there which only served to whet my appetite and note that I needed to do some grocery shopping before heading home. My mother-in-law and I had a lovely lunch sitting and people watching at the cafe on the ground level. Not a huge selection, but we both had tomato mozzarella salads that were tremendous. They came with a lovely serving of pine nut pesto that just complimented the very fresh cheese and tomato mixture. This place is pricey. And that comment is not just for the cafe. A cup of tea here was almost 5 Euros. But the people watching was tremendous. Walking through the grocery store after wards was an experience in sights and smells. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of food that they have here that is not available elsewhere. I want to come back and get some steaks since they looked phenomenal. I need to come back and get some wine, but didn't want to risk my mother-in-law thinking I was an alcoholic with what I knew would be the sheer quantity that I wanted to buy. Got a few different teas here and some chocolates for the kids - the littlest one wanted a marzipan carrot which looked tremendous. I would have sampled it to review it for you, but by the time I looked down, it was gone. Unfortunately I had to return in short order because one of the teas they sold me was a tester version, but they exchanged it for me in short order though I was only amused by the crusty woman at the exchange counter who told me I was not allowed to buy the tester. Right I explained, but here it is in my bag with the receipt showing the purchase 10 minutes before. Yes, but you can't buy that. Ok. Sigh. Can I go get a new one? This is an institution and one that is definitely worth exploring. Just watch for those testers. And bring a 50 Euro cent coin for the bathroom. Through the wine section, down the stairs to the wine bar, through the smokey bar, out a door to a hallway and there it is...

Yelp
Truly unique place in monumental Vienna, Julius Meinl am Graben is a shop and restaurant combined. After Julius Meinl I in 1862 opened a spice shop in Vienna's city centre in which he was selling green coffee beans, cocoa, tea, spices, rice and sugar Meinl brand has been recognized all over the world. The store am Graben is the only one not sold to multinational business and still owned by the family. From assortment to outlook this is a very original place. 2 floors full of goods make you feel like time traveller. Little hidden on the first flow, facing Graben street and famous plague column is the restaurant, where I had vary good breakfast. Wide choice of eggs, sandwiches and croissants accompanied by fresh juices, team and coffee of course.very friendly and fast service complements all the virtues. So definitely 5 stars, for its uniqueness and keeping high quality for centuries ;)

Yelp
So Julius Meinl, the cafe, is fine - nothing special, nothing terrible. It's a good place to people watch and grab a cup of coffee and a snack, but know that despite being a patron of their business, you'll still need to pay to use the WC (only €0,50, but I still find that irritating). Their melange (cappuccino) leaves much to be desired, but it's certainly not the worst I've had. Julius Meinl, the grocery store, is pretty cool. The prices are completely outrageous, and many of the items can be found at other grocery stores in Vienna for MUCH cheaper; however, this store does offer some items that other stores don't. Even if you don't plan on buying anything, it's a neat place to visit. If you need something you haven't been able to find elsewhere (including the Naschmarkt or Bobby's, the British & American food store), there exists the possibility that Meinl will have it. It's a good place to get meat, as well, although I personally prefer the Naschmarkt (and I definitely prefer the prices at the Naschmarkt!) Overall the grocery store is worth a visit, to sight-see if nothing else, and the cafe is okay, but there are better ones in the area (+with free bathrooms).

Yelp
My favourite shop in Vienna, for sure. I know it is mainly meant for tourists, which explains the crowds buying loads of expensive-looking bottles and food. But I always see local people shopping there, too and I was surprised to find out that there used to be a whole chain of these shops. There is seriously EVERYTHING there - food from all over the world, Julius Meinl accessories (many of them in a sweet vintage style) and even a cafe. It serves as a normal food store AND a kind of souvenir shop. Remember to check out the upper floor ;)

Yelp
Something I really like about Julius Meinl (although I've also seen it at other stores in Austria) - next to the price of things they also have a small flag, indicating country of origin. Don't want to goof up and bring your colleague a "souvenir" from Austria...from France? Check in here! No, but this places is BANANAS. I mean, if I were an Austrian grand dame I might shop here on the regular, but otherwise it's prohibitively pricey. That said, they have a phenomenal selection of chocolate (seriously, *fantastic*), as well as other sweets like tiny choco-mint dragees covered in a hard sugar shell. They also have their own line of chocolate which I have yet to try, but is really beautifully packaged. On top of the "grab and go and impress your friends" selections that are travel-friendly, they have a really impressive selection of meats and seafoods. Everything from wild boar charcuterie to smoked fish options. The cheeses are also beautifully presented, as are - wait for it, they're adorable - the teeny tiny (though extensive) selection of marzipan fruit. !!! Basically it's a beautiful building steeped in history with perfectly presented edibles. I have no complaints; I'm a happy shopper. Lots of aisles for check-out, making this an extra-smooth shopping experience. Yelp note: they have a Meinl "to go" lunch bar / hot food option right at the entrance to the store. Store / resto hybrid (they also have a sushi option and bar), give it a consideration...

Yelp
Overpriced gourmet shop. I'm not sure what's so special about this place. Kind of underwhelmed. Rory R.s review sums up this place well. If you've been to even a mediocre supermarket back home, this isn't anything special.

Yelp
Lovely, lovely wine bar. Below ground but a really nice atmosphere and decor. Staff were friendly and wine was great. It's not cheap. We did not eat just drank so the 4 stars is just for the drink and place.

Yelp
This sits over by some of the more pricey stores of Vienna and by the winter palace of the former monarchy. I went to the cafe portion of Julius. It's a small place that's a good place to people watch, especially when it's nice out. You can pick up free internet on your phone if you're from out of the country (Freewave). The hot chocolate with ice cream was good, could hav used a little more on the chocolate side of things. It is a little on the pricey side.

Yelp
This place is awesome and I could spend days looking and sampling the wonderful ingredients and foods in this place. The wine selection is also good. Love it.

Yelp
What a great specialty grocery store. If I ever want to blow a few euros, well actually, a lot of euros, I'll go here. If you are looking for something special, Julius Meinl is the place to go!

Yelp
A top quality food market. Lovely fresh produce, great selection of wines, beautiful chocolates (with country of origin clearly marked) and amazing coffees. I found staff helpful, aisles wide, and everything spotlessly clean. It was expensive, but it is the best food and wine shop in town, and would rival the best in most any other.

Louie M.

Yelp
If you want an overpriced grocery store full of tourists buying Mozart Balls, this is the place to be. Though, I can't be all negative about it. The wine selection is incredible, they have a cellar, great coffee, and everything has the country of origin clearly marked. I was there with a friend of mine from France also living in Vienna. His quote "I can't believe their selection of French goods, all international goods in fact. However, most of these things I've never actually see in France before..."
google avatar

Doubb M.

Yelp
Great supermarket with a wide selection. I have been sitting at the sushi bar where they served fresh and amazing sushi. There are only three tables where you can eat sushi, but its definitely worth to give a try, altough it is pretty pricey.

Yelp
The ultimate luxury market in the heart of Vienna. This market has a huge selection of teas, coffees, chocolates, groceries, almost anything you can imagine from countries all over the world. It's a bit pricey, but if you need to do any gift shopping to bring home, this is the ultimate destination. Julius Meinl coffee is amazing, one of my favorites. If you can't find Ben & Jerry's in Europe, yes, Julius Meinhl had it (although it was 2-3 flavors). There is also a restaurant both at ground level and on another floor, although its VERY expensive.

Drew M.

Yelp
The moment you step in you realize you're as far from a regular grocery store as it gets. You almost feel underdressed for the occasion. Obviously, there's a premium to be paid for the experience; with most offerings being noticeably more expensive than at other gourmet retailers. I really like their bakery; their coffee brownies are a treat of the highest order, and their potato bread more than passes muster. Their apple pastry is a thing of utter beauty, too. Their coffee brownies (more like blondies) are so good that I bought eight of them to eat over the course of my Transatlantic flight back to the States and have made active efforts to replicate the recipe. Their beer, cheese, and chocolate selections are vastly superior to those of nearby flagship supermarkets, as is their selection of teas. I also rather enjoy their array of gourmet butters/pates/mousses (e.g., lobster butter). Their cold-cuts section is inferior to that of Merkur Hoher Markt, I would say. This place is decidedly not for general grocery purposes (unless you like paying more for the same, just for kicks), more so for general treats and delicacies.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant on May 6, 2013.It is located upstairs from the food market. Four of us had a VERY expensive dinner with a poor bottle of wine, suggested by our waiter. One of our guests is a vegeterian. Not only was the waiter and restaurant unaccomodating for thisguest but he had/has not concept of "service to the client". Things were so poor, we asked for the Head chef whom our waiter agreed to bring out. That didn't happen either. In fact the chef was having drinks at a back table with friends, completely ignoring us. I would rate this restaurant with a one star (only because they did serve food). I wold not recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling. There are better, more fun, nicer restaurants in Wien. For the price, there are definately warmer places to eat.

Bob R.

Yelp
Stopped for coffees and a strudel at the tables outside. We got a cold coffee and a very curt waiter. This was not the Viennese coffee experience we hoped for.
