The check-in experience at Julius Nyerere International Airport can vary depending on the staff. I’ve heard that some officers may ask for extra documents just to make the process more difficult. In my case, however, this did not happen, and the staff at the check-in desk were kind and professional. Overall, including the security personnel, I found the airport to be staffed by helpful and courteous people, which made the experience smoother than I had anticipated.
There is a row of currency exchange shops tucked away on the right-hand side at the back of the check-in counters at Julius Nyerere International Airport. There are around five outlets here, and they all offer almost identical rates. Depending on the currency, the margin when exchanging local currency for US dollars is about 2 per cent, which is very reasonable. In fact, these rates are often better than those in the city, making the airport counters a convenient and reliable option for travellers.
