The “Aircraft Graveyards” That Keep Aviation Alive | Condé Nast Traveler

"Parked at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, a retired 747 was converted into Jumbo Stay, a 33-room hostel where guests could book the “Cockpit Suite” and literally sleep beneath the instrument panel — a striking example of repurposing a commercial jet into accommodation — though the operation shuttered and filed for bankruptcy in early 2025." - Scott Campbell

Retro Planes Are Getting Second Lives as Bars and Restaurants

"In Stockholm, Sweden, a hotelier transformed a 747 plane into a hostel named JumboStay. Located a 15-minute walk from the city’s international airport, it features a café in the former first-class cabin and dorm-style rooms, including a twin suite in the cockpit with views and original controls."

8 Best Hostels in Stockholm: My Top Places to Stay in 2025

"If you need to be by the airport, I think Jumbo Stay STF/IYHF is super awesome: it's a converted 747 with singles, doubles, and 2–4 bed dorms, and the standout is the cockpit suite with a private bathroom (starting at 1,850 SEK). It's open 24 hours, has an on-site restaurant and bar, towels and linens are included, and the smaller dorms (2–4 beds) mean you won't be overly crowded." - Matthew Kepnes

A very unique and interesting experience. Loved the location next to the airport. And you could reach downtown Stockholm in around 20 minutes with the airport-city train. Service was okay, totally acceptable 👍 Had a nice time there. Would definitely recommend staying there 👍

It's such a shame this hotel (hostel?) has closed down. We absolutely loved it when we visited about a month ago – it was the very reason we flew all the way to Sweden! I really hope someone takes over the business and saves this unique place. With a bit of renovation and some clever marketing, it could be fantastic again!😭❤️

Fantastic and unique place to stay. Of course rooms are diminutive but my word the beds are comfy and the place was completely spotless. Transport to and from the airport was on time and so easy. Would stay again without question. Gave us connected rooms without having to ask which was very helpful as a family. Very quiet too, didn't hear a peep all night.

In a nutshell they have really bad service. I arrived after 00:00 and there was nobody at the reception. I waited a lot of time outside in the cold weather. By the time I was able to talk with someone to open the door the person was really rude. After 24hs traveling I just wanted to rest not being yelled over the phone. By the way, the rooms are really small and there was no shampoo in the bathroom. Furthermore, in the shared rooms for four people there was only one outlet to charge my phone. I do not recommend to stay here.

Quirky stay (obvs!) In the cockpit suite which was pretty amazing although headroom was low. Surprisingly quiet, and comfortable bed and warm shower. Wish we could have stayed longer; would like to come back in the good weather and enjoy the outside deck!

We booked the cockpit and black box suites for one night to experience this unique place. We arrived late in the evening. The shuttle drops you off at a stop on the main road and you have to walk the equivalent of a block or two to get to the "plane". If you're staying in the fuselage rooms you will have to go up a few flights of external stairs or use the lift (in our case the lift was out of order due to some folks overloading it and it was during the holidays so they couldn't find anyone to come out and fix it at that time-- hopefully when you go, it will be working :)). This is definitely a unique hotel. We were glad to have private bathrooms and the beds were fine. This isn't a luxury hotel but the experience is worth it I think for a night or two. No issues with noise despite being close to the airport and sleep was restful.

The experience was good! Rooms were clean and not cramped. Also, if you enjoy watching planes depart/arrive, this is the place for you, as it is located directly next to the airport. However, the plane needs some renovation in general as it looks old on the outside and the age is also noticeable. Some areas of the plane are restricted. One could otherwise take good pictures there.

For anyone having a long layover and doesn't want to go far out from the airport this is the best option. Especially if you're a solo traveller or a really small group. The place is very literally 10min from the airport with the basic needs to just freshen up and sleep for the layover time and leave for the next flight. There are some basic food provisions but not much. There aren't much facilities to get food or make food either. But for a layover it is perfect and food is always there at the airport if and when needed since buses go and come every 15 min or less.

Yelp
A must stay if you're an aviation geek like me. As a child, 747s had just come on the scene and took the public imagination instantly with its gargantuan size and instantly recognizable hump. I spent decades revering this icon of global travel to exotic destinations. Rode it for many years when in college and as a young adult. And now I get to come up close to one just as this queen of the skies is getting retired from most flagship airlines in favor of 2 engined planes. Very clever use of space with strong homage to key areas of the aircraft. I originally booked an engine nacelle room. But am grateful the receptionist offered to place me in the main cabin for several reasons--proximity to toilet-showers, noise insulation (from aircraft taxiing nearby), and the alarming wobble each time someone walks the wing overhead! Breakfast begins at 3am. An easy terminal shuttle bus (P3 Alfa) runs 4 times an hour for much of the day and night. No shoes inside the hostel--bring flip flops to use around and un bathrooms.

Yelp
Good value and certainly an unusual experience for a stay near the airport. I don't see it as gimmicky as some other reviews, since it is a fitting use and very well done. Getting to and from any terminal at the airport is quick with the free shuttle. I definitely would only stay before an early flight or after a late arrival: no reason to stay this far out more than one night. It is important to expect a hostel experience, such as shared showers. I stayed in one of the engines. Other than the constant hum of the nearby airport, it was quiet and comfortable. The employees were very friendly. Breakfast was a simple continental spread, starting at 3am to accommodate even the craziest flights. I thought it was a bit odd that the snow hadn't been cleared at all for me to get from the main area to my engine...luckily it was less than 2 inches, I hope they'd clear it if there was more...

Yelp
If you're going to Stockholm, you gotta try this place out. It's an actual 747 converted into a hotel. The rooms are comfortable. We had the black box room, which was in the back of the airplane. Plenty of room and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was a nice touch and it was included in the cost of the stay. Overall, highly recommended.

Yelp
Small and gimmick hotel close to airport. I would stay the night before an early flight. Beware that at check in the staff will try to upsell you to a more expensive room or a private room from what you have booked. I talked to three others at the free breakfast the next morning and we all shared the same type story. Wifi was good but The advertised air conditioning was not and this was a hot summer day and the room was very hot and stuffy

Yelp
Went on a solo trip to Stockholm and heard about this hostel previously. It was very close to the airport. Take the free shuttle bus from bus stop 3 at Arlanda airport and just takes about 7 minutes. Upon arrival, the staff members were very nice. I had a 4 bed dorm. It was a very small room though. The bathroom to the back of the 'plane' were very clean and well maintained. The breakfast is not included in the price. You need to pay extra for it and it was decent. I got it because it was easier than finding breakfast elsewhere. The location is convenient to the airport but far from Stockholm city. I took the bus to the airport and then took the Arlanda Express bus to Stockholm. Took around 30-35 min one-way. This is not the most cost efficient way, however. There is a discount for youth (up to 25 yrs old) so a one way ticket was around $17-$18. Overall, I think the concept of the Jumbo Stay was very fresh and unique and I enjoyed my experience!

Yelp
Cute & is more of a gimmicky hotel. Bus 3 is located in terminal 5, you have to press & hold buttons to use elevators, shoe have to be removed in check in area, breakfast is included & serves as early as 3am. Rooms are small & I stayed in the bottom/boot/cargo room of plane w /wifi, toilet & tv. It is a 35min bus ride from down town Stockholm to terminal 5 than another shuttle bus that runs every 15min for free. I'd suggest staying here last nite of trip because it takes longer to go to city especially at night

Yelp
If you dont want a good nights sleep stay here. extremely noisy, the room doors are so loud that you can hear them crystal clear every time someone opens and closes one. also the walls are paper thin so when people are walking up and down the hallway or opening the doors or talking you hear it. didnt sleep at all the whole night bc its that loud. also the front desk is pretty much in the main hallway so when they talk on the phone you hear that too. also the bathrooms are the same size as an airplane bathroom and that includes a shower. we should have just slept at the airport and saved our money, thats not a joke.
