We paid £75 per person to go to Jungfraujoch, which my family happily paid as we did this when I was a teen and had so much fun. I wish we hadn't wasted our money.
We took my disabled step-father, and I have mobility and anxiety issues. The train which has disabled access, was impossible without assistance or getting hurt, to disembark off of at Kline Schlidegg. The employees seemed annoyed that we hadn't purchased reserved seating at an extra £10 per person, even though we had purchased the tickets and the passes online and were never given the option of booking a time. Not that reservations seem to matter as they cram as many people in the trains to the top as possible. ( Employees did assist us onto this train.) At the top there was very little sensible signage anywhere. There was a crush of people waiting for lifts, which was craziness, no employees to make lines or help. This was compacted by being in a room with projections everywhere which was very dark and flashy ( glad I wasn't epileptic)
Once we got on the lift it took us to the Sphinx (which is the viewing platform at the top.) No room and far too many people again, which made it very difficult with a wheelchair or walking sticks as people were pushing and squeezing into every available space. Not that they cared about anyone that may have difficulties. Mum and stepdad decided to go back down as it wasn't comfortable and horrid for them. They attempted to find the disabled toilets, which the employees who were asked had no clue where they were, and by the time they figured it out my Stepdad had, had an accident. They were then treated to the train/ Jungfrau employees screaming at people, and yet again packing as many people into the trains.
We continued. The ice caves were lovely, but without a 'eurokey' (disability access key) there was no access to them. The stores which used to be open and easy to access are now crammed into corners, and random restaurants are taking all the space up. The snow fun area outside was better, but now has expensive sledding/tubing or zip lining (20-35chf)
When we decided to go back down, the train employees, again treated us with contempt for not having 'reservations' even though our passes were for that day.
To be honest the snow is fun, but the views were better in Mürren, and 75 pp is too much for next to nothing, getting yelled at, and dealing with rude people.
I wrote an email to the Jungfrau-Bahn train company who said they would 'look into' the incident. I'll be honest, it's not good enough. Spend your money on better adventures in Switzerland, and forget Jungfraujoch.
Jungfraujoch is Not suitable for most disabilities. If you have mobility issues, forget it. If you can't stand crowds, or have any fear of small places. Not for you. Don't even get me started on anxiety conditions.
