"Scientists have long traveled to Earth’s ends to conduct their studies. Mountaintops are a classic example of a harsh environment that serves as an ideal setting for experiments ranging from the physiological to the astronomical. When the Jungfraujoch station in Switzerland’s Bernese Alps opened in 1912, it became the highest railway stop in all of Europe. It also opened the door for eager scientists awaiting easy access to a high altitude site to do their work. The Sphinx Observatory, completed in 1937, is a result of this influx of research. Perched on a shockingly steep precipice at the so-called “Top of Europe,” the observatory is the highest-altitude construction in the entire continent. With multiple laboratories, a weather observation station, astronomical and meteorological domes, and a 76-cm telescope, the Sphinx has served as a headquarters for researchers in fields such as glaciology, medicine, cosmic ray physics, and astronomy. And over the years, the building has adapted to meet scientists’ needs. Today, the observatory is fully outfitted with electricity, water, telephone, internet, and even a machine to produce liquid air. In addition to the science, the observatory also provides visitors with vertigo-inducing, panoramic views of the snowy Alps, green valleys, and the Great Aletsch Glacier. From the metal grating terrace that surrounds the building, one can see over 11,000 feet below, with views stretching as far as Germany and Italy. Even getting to the observatory is a wondrous journey itself. Riding along the historic Jungfrau railway, passengers have a chance to peer through windows built into the mountainside and browse the peculiar Eispalast (Ice Palace), where ice sculptures depicting everything from people to automobiles are carved within a chilly glacier." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

An absolutely stunning view and a trip worth every penny! There are also many souvenir shops, dining areas, and watch sellers at the location. The Ice Palace was also unique and worth the exploration. I really enjoyed reading the history of exploring Jungfraujoch and developing the present day railway system. Highly recommend taking the gondola to the train stop and seeing all the skiers below.

Amazing.. the views are spectacular, and you dont get many opportunities in this world (maybe also in life) to experience something like this. Train access take a bit longer than the cable car (both get busy) both excellent.. noth give great views!! When you arrive there are many things to do and you can easily.pass a few hours, checking out the viewpoints, cafés, shops.. it's very well organised and it's not overrun with things. Everything you need is ok hand.. bottle water, snack, meal, souvenir.. lindt chocolates!! Also toilets, things for kids and comfortable viewing points. Bring warm clothing because at this altitude it gets cold outside!! Sunscreen and sunglasses are also a good idea

Easy to get to with rail. If you browsed the website and got the impression that you might need to buy tickets in advance on a set date to visit, like some sort of booking, that's not the case, it's just normal rail tickets all the way up to Jungfraujoch, and you can buy them any time for any date, even from the station ticket booths. You can also use EasyRide all the way up, just scan the code at the gates. Takes 2 hours to get to from Interlaken, or 4 hours from Lausanne. Pick a good weather day to go up to the top, obviously... Some reviews mention that it was a disappointing experience when the weather is bad. That's not really the fault of the facility, is it? One more thing of note, the train from Eigergletscher to Jungfraujoch is almost all in tunnels, no need to rush to grab a seat. Also worth going out to see Eismeer on the way. The view is amazing at the Sphinx, you can see so much all around. It will obviously be very cold compared to the weather "below", when I went it was -10C outside the Sphinx (when it was a toasty 10C in Interlaken!) Dress appropriately. Watch your phone battery as well as they don't do well in the cold.

It is the best place to visit the one of the swiss alps, we had a day trip to jungfrau . We booked tickets in interlaken on the same day because we were not certain of the weather, however it was very cold on top and windy, but the experience to reach there was supper awesome and in return back we had beautiful views from train. And on top the alps there wer activities and small stores you can go for hikes and have small tubing activities have snacks enjoying the snow glacier, we had great fun

Absolutely amazing experience. Thankfully, the weather was great the day I went. I took the first train up and got the good morning deal at 95 CHF, which was a great deal (regular 175 CHF plus). Everything from advertising to the tour was very well executed. The entire facility was clean. Highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience!

Awesome day out and great weather. I think we got lucky. It was crazy with lots of tourists and tour companies. Highly recommend booking reservations for the train so you don't have to wait in line with hundreds of other people.

I went with my daughter it was incredible. It seems much more complicated to get there then it really is. Just buy a ticket online and get on the gondola from grindewald terminal and then switch to the train. And then there is a discovery circle you just follow that and then back to the train. Much better than it looks on photos. However I did find the statues at the ice palace old and outdated/ we called the polar bear- the melted polar bear. (I have attached the photo)But we enjoyed the icy environment. The actual glacier was very crowded even though we came very early but the other one was much spacier and people seemed to avoid it because it was walking slightly out of the discovery circle. The snow was fluffy and amazing and we had the best time. We ordered seats with extra cost/ but we are not sure it was nessesary as everyone went on the train at the same time, there was no reserved seats. Maybe it’s more important if you come later but we took the early morning package so there was plenty of space. Highly recommend sun glasses. We forgot ours and by the end we couldn’t see anymore so well. Also term socks and water repelant boots, those really kept our toes warm. Highly recommended.

Well worth the visit for the views of the glacier and mountains. Ice palace great with kids. Very cold on the windy side so wrap up well.
