This Caribbean Island Is Back From the Brink—and Ready to Share Its Treasures With the World

"Jungle Bay's creator, Sam Raphael, has built a sprawling retreat with a grounded charm. His 89-year-old father often tends the herb garden or picks fruit and vegetables for the sublime locavore meals. Guests come for the nature-inspired spa treatments as well as yoga and free diving retreats. Breakfast is a treat, especially the shredded salt fish served with local teas and produce from the grounds, as are the lunches of escovitch fish and dinners of stewed goat."

Jungle Bay is a serene retreat on the Caribbean’s most beautiful island. The rooms are spectacular, all offering mountainside views over the water. The food is delicious and local, much of it grown on site. The staff largely also are friendly residents of the island. In every way, Sam, the owner who was born on Dominica, tries to raise up those around him. The warmness of the welcome and service was something I haven’t experienced before, even at 5 star luxury resorts. This truly is a place where everyone “knows your name.”||And the individualized treatment continues over to activities. Some options are very strenuous, others calm and moderate. Jungle Bay makes sure every guest experiences the beauty of the island in a way appropriate to them. My personal favorites were the snorkel in Champagne Bay, the walk through Soufriere, and the cooking/ gardening classes. The hikes also were so beautiful.||Jungle Bay is a special place of joy. Don’t miss it.

This eco-conscious sanctuary is a haven of paradise and eco-luxury on the nature island. The resort is beautiful through and through, from the dining facility, to the rooms, to the pool, to the edible gardens. But what makes this place so phenomenal is the people. Every employee, from the servers, to the gardeners, to the cart drivers, and to the receptionists - are genuinely warm, friendly people that want to ensure you are taken care of. We also greatly enjoyed our morning walks with Nancy, and are more than grateful for all the helpful advice shared along the way. Kudos to Sam for bringing in such wonderful people to bring his dream to life. We would definitely return! For our family, staying at Jungle Bay was the highlight of our trip, and a better fit for us than elsewhere on the island.

Fly, sail, run or hike to Jungle Bay and DON'T DELAY. Where do I begin? Well I can begin in 2024 when I went to Jungle Bay the first time and stayed 4 nights as a solo traveler.||I loved it so much, I brought my mom and granny and we spent 6 nights in June/July 2025.||Jungle Bay isn't just an eco-friendly resort with beautiful and healthy vegetation and meals nor is it just a destination for awesome yoga retreats.||What makes Jungle Bay different are the people who work there and their love for their country. ||From start to finish everyone made my family feel extremely welcomed and cared for. Professionalism and Pampering are the 2 P's I would use to further describe this place.||There is plenty to experience and see. There are activities for novices to veterans who love being outdoors and exploring and experiencing nature. After a full day of activities unwind by attending a relaxing yoga class and then follow that with a 30 minute massage in the spa. One comes to Jungle Bay to relax, release and reset. ||I would definitely recommend eating all of the local dishes that are provided in the restaurant. Try EVERYTHING. Take a morning hike with Sam and Nancy. Take advantage of all of the activities avaliable. Learn about all the fruits, herbs and vegetables this place has to offer and definitely talk to everyone. ||I came into Jungle Bay as a guest and I left with many new family members.

I joined the Christmas Jungle Bay Yoga retreat with Petra while my daughter stayed with her Dominican family in a nearby village. The trip was exactly what this solo mom needed to rejuvenate and recharge from the hectic year. In addition to two twice daily yoga classes, the highlights include both the onsite and offsite excursions. Onsite, I attended the Herbal Experience, The Jungle Bay story, The Cooking Class and the Jungle Bay Garden. All were fascinating and delighted the senses. Off site, I attended the Perdu Temps and Fresh Water Lake Hike, and the Sunset Kayak trip. The food in the dining room is fresh, delicious, healthy and nutritious. The grounds, staff, rooms and pools are lovely. Dominica is a special and healing place.

We recently stayed at Jungle Bay for a portion of our family vacation in Dominica. It was amazing! The rooms are very spacious and clean. The property is beautiful and there are a ton of different fruit trees around the property which you are welcome to eat. Sam, the owner, found us a ripe soursop which was delicious. My 4yo daughter had a minor medical emergency in the middle of the night and the manager, Laura, was so helpful. She drove us to the hospital and waited while my daughter was treated. Definitely recommend this place and would love to stay again!

First off, beautiful resort. You can visualize the beauty of the resort via the website or tripadvisor gallery photos. Believe me, its even better in person. The sounds, the vibrant colors and the overall attention to detail of the property will take you to a different level of gained perspective, relaxation and appreciation for the natural beauty of this world. What's even more impressive is the resort staff engagement. We felt completely welcomed each day. From the owner Sam (one awesome human), to the restaurant staff, to the grounds staff, to the lobby staff, to the drivers and excursion hosts we always felt completely cared for and part of the "family". Dominica is an extremely beautiful nature island (any travel blog or magazine will say the same) and Jungle Bay compliments those qualities perfectly...Highly recommend visiting Dominica and choosing Jungle Bay as your place of stay...|*Shout out to my friend Nancy 😁

To start off this review, I would like to apologise for the tardiness of this review. I was so sure I had written one when we had arrived home and unfortunately I had not! ||Myself and my siblings are half Dominican/half Scottish but have never been able to make the trip out to the island, an opportunity presented itself last year that meant we were able to all go for the first time. In the run up to our trip I had emailed various resorts around the island to figure out the best accommodation set up for the 4 of us. Jungle Bay could not have been more helpful, they sent us different room plans and options and were so responsive in their correspondence. That along with the photos of their resort solidified our choice to come here. ||When we arrived at the hotel it truly felt like coming home. I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful the staff at the hotel are. They are kind, welcoming and nothing is too much bother. The views from the hotel are out of this world and we spent the entire week pinching ourselves as we couldn’t believe it was real life. ||Our interconnecting (via balcony) rooms were perfect and spacious and actually more like villas! Even with the pictures we received before hand we were still blown away.||Sam the owner of the hotel greeted us on our first night and took us on a wonderful fruit and vegetable tour of the resort and we were able to taste bread nuts for the first time. Sam said he was making proper Dominicans of us!! ||The food at the hotel is delicious and took me back to my Granny’s cooking when she used to make us Caribbean dishes. The location of the hotel is handy for walking down to Soufriere and Scott’s head, the walk back up is a work out but beautiful or you can take advantage of the shuttle service from the hotel! ||We had the stay and trip of a lifetime and Jungle Bay was a huge part of that. We will definitely be back and we can’t wait to see our Jungle Bay family again! Thank you for the incredible stay and apologies again for my VERY late review.

I was home visiting family but usually book at another Hotel in Roseau that was booked for the WCMF. In hindsight, I am so happy that the other hotel was booked. There is no question the facility and staff are great but what tops it off for me, is the tranquility. I felt close to everything but yet so far away.
