Jungle Retreat Wayanad

I had been dreaming of visiting this forest-immersed resort for over a year, and it absolutely exceeded every expectation. We spent four truly special nights here.|​The wildlife viewing opportunities from the property itself were simply astonishing. We spotted an incredible variety of animals, including:|​A TIGER (Yes, you read that right!)|​An elephant with its calf (Again, yes, you read that right!)|​Two mousedeer|​Numerous spotted deer|​A Sambar deer|​A Gaur|​Several mongooses|​And literally hundreds of birds!|​The staff was attentive, present, and extremely courteous throughout our stay. And the food? It was heavenly (paradisiaco)!|​The resort organizes a variety of activities to help you explore the surroundings.|​This is an absolute must-visit. I highly recommend it to everyone!

This is our 30th trip to JRW and counting... We have stayed in Glass Cottage 2, and what a view it gives! Early mornings waking up to a misty jungle, with deer, peafowls, and mongooses roaming the meadow — priceless! Bird watching and trekking through the jungle looking for pugmarks with Manu Uncle was, as always, exciting and informative. The icing on the cake was our camping at the Watchtower — a new addition! It’s a secluded watchtower overlooking a waterhole frequented by all animals. What more can be said! We had an exciting night with alarm calls of sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, growls and mating calls of tigers (guessing DOT and BigFoot), and a naughty huge tusker that came, broke branches, went away, and returned after two hours to start breaking them again. We also saw flying squirrel, paradise flycatcher and a variety of birds. All camping logistics were taken care of by Manu uncle and his team. The food was, as usual, tasty and more.. Harish uncle, Bishnu bhaiya , Ram bhaiya and all others were ever-smiling and shared several entertaining stories.. Time spent with Anil Uncle hearing his experiences and tales of the wild mesmerized us, and Uncle's idea of camping in watchtower was spectacular. Waiting to return back ASAP...

Hello my beautiful people! Thank you so much for your warm hospitality. Here’s my honest review of the resort experience: 1.Location: The place is incredibly peaceful—right in the middle of the forest, surrounded by birds and wildlife. If you love nature and silence, you’ll love it here. Basic room with king size bed with out Ac 8k per day However, it’s slightly on the expensive side. 2.Food: The lunch was excellent! Great taste and quality, and the price is quite reasonable—₹500 per person, and honestly, worth every rupee. 3.Night Safari: They offered a night safari, which is basically a jeep ride on normal roads. If you’re lucky, you might spot some animals, but there’s no guarantee. The ride lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours and costs ₹1500 per jeep (up to 6 people). Personally, I felt this was a bit overpriced for what you get. 4.Travel Options: If you have your own car, that’s the better option. Otherwise, they provide a Tuk Tuk for parson 500 for a 6 km round trip, which again feels expensive. 5.Safari Drop: They charge ₹3000 to drop you to the safari point and bring you back (around 26 km up and down). This is something to consider while planning. 6.Safari Entry Fees: •Bus safari: ₹450–₹600 per person •Jeep safari: ₹1000 (we ended up paying ₹2500, but after speaking to the resort owner, he gave us a small discount). I didn’t like the fact that there seemed to be a commission involved in the pricing. It would be better if everything was clear and transparent from the start. Final Thoughts: The resort and its natural surroundings are beautiful. The food is great and the stay is peaceful. But when it comes to activities like safaris and transportation, it’s better to double-check all the prices and details in advance. Either plan things on your own or ask for clear information before booking. Otherwise, you might feel a bit frustrated by the end. Hope this helps others to plan better. We had an unforgettable stay at Jungle Retreat, Wayanad, truly a paradise for nature lovers! We stayed both in the tree house and the cottages, and each offered a unique experience. The tree house gave us an incredible view of the forest canopy, while the cottages were cozy, comfortable, and surrounded by lush greenery. What made our stay even more special was the hospitality of the staff. A heartfelt thank you to Vinod bhai, Mannu bhai, and Vishnu — they went above and beyond to make us feel at home and ensured we had everything we needed. Their warmth and friendly nature really added a personal touch to the entire experience. During our stay, we had some thrilling wildlife encounters we spotted elephants, heard a lion’s roar from about 100 meters away, and saw several other animals right from the property itself. It truly felt like living amidst nature in its purest form. Overall, Jungle Retreat is not just a resort it’s an experience you’ll cherish forever. Perfect for anyone who loves adventure, peace, and nature. Highly recommended for families, couples, and solo travellers alike! 🌿🦋🐘

Our second time there. Location is perfect. Atmosphere serene. Mr.Vinoth gave us a warm welcome and made sure we had a great stay. We Stayed at the tree house this time. Great experience. We even had our kid with us ( I wouldn't recommend it 100% though for even the smallest of noises drive away chances of sightings). Vishnu was our caretaker/guide/naturalist. I must say he was excellent in whatever he did. The sounds of the forest at night would give anyone the thrills. The jungle walk in the morning is not to be missed! Our stay was short so we couldn't do any other activity. I would recommend this place for sure and as they say PLEASE STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE THE PARTYING TYPES!( Lot of other places to do so). This is absolutely only for the lovers of nature.

It is an amazing place for wildlife lovers. A completely different experience to live in the tree house. Our guide and caretaker, Vishnu, was awesome and really knowledgeable. The whole team there is pretty good. The tree house is a must-see for everyone who loves bird watching. The feeling of being surrounded by the jungle is surreal in the morning and feels really eerie at night, which is part of the fun. The food was also pretty delicious, with a variety of dishes for lunch and dinner. One can also stay in the resort, which feels a bit more protected than the tree house. The bush breakfast was a great experience, as we got to see deer and the Malabar giant squirrel roam around while we ate. Overall, I would say it is a very different experience from the safari or resort experiences in the National Parks. This experience makes u feel much closer to the Jungle. Two concerns: safety issues due to the lack of proper protective equipment while walking to the tree houses. I feel the guide is pretty good, but still a little more can be done in this area. Secondly, the price is way too high, so the value for money is a little low, but again, I am not sure of other places where u can observe wild elephants all day.

We had a lovely stay at Jungle Retreat Wayanad. My husband and I booked 3 nights stay at the treehouse property for our honeymoon. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we even had a spider friend to keep us company 😄😄 (he was harmless and we’re near the reserve forest so it’s natural). Manu and Vinoth were really kind and made our stay so memorable. Whatever request we had they made sure it was fulfilled. Talking with them showed us how they respect nature and the animals and we are so glad to find like-minded people. We saw a variety of birds and animals on the property like deer and elephants. We unfortunately couldn’t spot a tiger on our trip but we definitely heard him and saw traces of tiger movement 😅 maybe next time we’d be lucky enough to see him (although other guests at the resort had the chance to see a tiger) There are a lot of activities to pick from or you can just chill at your room, after all you are surrounded by nature. The food was absolutely delicious and nutritious. We are already planning our next stay there. We came back home with a heart full of memories.

Our stay at this wildlife resort was truly unforgettable. Surrounded by nature, the resort offers a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Vinod & Manu was extremely courteous and always ready to help in finding new adventures. The food was delicious with good variety, and the overall hospitality was top-class. Waking up to the sounds of birds, deers and being so close to nature was a wonderful experience.
