As a season ticket holder, my experience with the JT has been terrific. Having seen about 10 shows over the past few years, I nearly always leave after the curtain call with the thought "I can't believe community theater can be this consistently good." In particular, the current show, "Urinetown," is a must-see. Don't let your first impression - it's a musical about peeing - put you off. This is easily the most accessable performance I can recall seeing in the Twin Cities. Everyone should see this. (I'm loathe to suggest young children should see this, but it's safe enough to recommend to a high-school aged teen.) Hidden beneath all the music, dancing, and comic absurdity, there's a moral to this story, something about the use of our precious resources, and how "Les Miz" sucks, I think, but you'll be too busy laughing to care. In that sense, it's much like "Spamalot.' If you've never given live theater a chance for fear it's dull and overly-intellectual, this is the time to disprove that fallacy. Yes, sometimes a play can be tedious, but not this one. ("Waiting for Godot" was, for example, a yawner.) Go and see "Urinetown" before it closes on August 11. The Lyn-Lake neighborhood has plenty of great bars and eateries, so it's a perfect opportunity for dinner and a show. Also, a shout-out to the JT Ticket Office - always friendly and helpful. I've had to change tickets or buy extras at the eleventh hour, and the Ticket Office has routinely come through for me. Overall, the Jungle Theater is simply the best.
