Juniper is a gem of Johnson City. There are other passionate establishments around, but not polished, classy or dialed in like Juniper is. We really enjoy exploring the menu and experiencing the off menu specials. This visit we went big and were almost completely impressed. The one hiccup was ordering a $160 50oz steak for the table and it came +90well done after ordering med-med well. The presentation was very pleasing, but the mouth feel and flavor of the beef were lost being so over cooked. The table service and staff interactions are highly tuned in. This has to be a really fun place to work. You can see and feel it in the staff interactions. Mara worked through the menu and specials with us with great poise and confidence. Her knowledge and skill set the table for us. Great job! Great job to the chefs and the menu. We look forward to many more visits and high end service.

Hubby brought me on my birthday and we both had a Japanese A5 Wagyu Steak, chicken pot pie croquettes, asparagus with barnaise sauce, lobster mashed potato & three kinds of dessert. We are foodie people and we have high regards on good and quality food. You could get a fine dining experience at Juniper, and the attention to details for everyrhing is exemplary, with excellent good service especially our server named Whitney she is knowledgeable with everything & I asked for a sweet cocktail drink and I had what she recommended. Very good! A lot of options & I like the fact they have off menu dishes & specials. We were surprised when we were there, there was a Japanese Wagyu steak on the menu but it's not listed on their website.😍 Yes it is pricey but for us it's worth it. Reservation is recommended and we would dedinitely come back. Five star!

Service is good and so is the food. I don't personally think it's worth the high price. Sides and small plates are reasonably priced. The Brussels are a favorite, but last time we mainly had leaves. I feel the small plates and sides are better than the mains. Desserts are also delicious. They add small touches that are a nice bonus when celebrating a special event, but it loses some of the uniqueness when several tables are getting the same special bonuses... Noise is a problem upstairs since the space is so small and the noise panels don't seem to help much. They at least tried to help mitigate this.

Google
A popular and trendy high end restaurant. Reservations required if you can get one. We were only able to get a reservation at the bar seating... and you are seated at the bar next to someone else. Drink and menu prices are commensurate with fine dining. Side dishes are not included unless identified in the entree description. My wife had trout which she said was excellent. I had a lobster tail over mashed potatoes, which was just okay. It was small and the lobster was presliced and looked like it came out of a can. Service was good, desert was good but intended for a single serving which we split anyway. Bathrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen in a restaurant. Staff was professional and managed thing efficiently.

Google
Ate @Juniper yesterday . Best part of my meal??? My dirty Vodka Martini. Ordered dumplings for app, very good. I ordered the lamb chops, too fatty and gamey . Potatoes Au Gratin was good.. and again the dirty Vodka Martini was the best PART OF MEAL..

I had an amazing experience sitting at the bar here! The bartender, whose name I’m unfortunately forgetting but I know it started with an "R," was fantastic. The cocktail was expertly crafted, and the service was top-notch. The food was absolutely incredible – beautifully presented with perfectly balanced flavors. I’ll be back in a few weeks for business, and I’ll definitely be returning to this place. It was truly one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! I also took the lemon meringue to go, and it completely blew me away.

Our first visit to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. Food and service were impeccable. We will be back. Thank you to our waiter Rob for making our special day memorable.

My wife and I made a reservation here for Valentine’s Day. Atmosphere is great! We love the setup of the old farmhouse, the shiplap, and the ambiance. We had no issues with parking or waiting to be seated. Host was very friendly and nice. Our server was very tentative. For an appetizer we ordered the Chicken Pot Pie Croquettes. Very nice presentation and bonus points for something on the menu we’ve never seen before. For the main course we got the Japanese A5 Wagyu Filet and the Spiced Duck Breast. Both presented very well and were cooked right, tasted good. We also had 1 drink each before diner and split the Bananas Foster Crème Brûlée. The reason for the in depth description is to explain that while everything we had was definitely good. Nothing we had was GREAT. Our total bill after tip was a little over $250. A good experience and a place scratched off our bucket list, but nothing worth going back for.

Yelp
Food was excellent, our waiter David was exceptional! Everything cooked to perfection, great flavor without over seasoning.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in the Tri-Cities area. Food was delicious, full of unique flavors- I would've ordered anything on the menu - they know how to put together a plate. Service- the host was friendly, professional. Our waitress thoroughly explained the menu and was very knowledgeable and kind. Ambience- what a cute restaurant. the decor and atmosphere are lovely.

Yelp
My wife and I have had fantastic dinner for anniversary's and just date nights. Wonderful treatment and service from the staff as well. It is an expensive night but the overall experience is worth it. I recommend a dinner night there.

Christina W.

Yelp
Came here for our anniversary. Had reservations for 5:30 on Friday night. Showed up a couple minutes early and snagged the last parking spot. This place makes you feel special. We had a lovely table on the second floor. Appetizer: Chicken Pot Pie Croquettes are delicious two bite sized fried balls with a dollop of creamy goodness on top. These are so tasty. Snake River Farms American Wagyu Denver Steak is sliced thin and served with dipping sauce. They recommend it's best served rare. It was a bit too marbled for my liking. Next time I would get the Brasstown Beef Filet Mignon. Seared Diver Scallops: only two, though big and very good. Brussels Sprouts: best I've ever had! Dessert: Peach Pie Sundae. Is a deconstructed pie a'la mode. Black Pearl Cab Sav from South Africa. Server: Taylor is so friendly and helpful. She guided us through the menu. We dressed up but there were people dressed casually as well. It's a very nice place for dinner for all occasions.

Yelp
I've been here twice already, easily one of my favorite spots in JC. Make a reservation. They have an upstairs and downstairs. One of the off menu specials is a mega steak. Stop looking at the menu and just order it. It's a NY strip and a filet, aka a TBONE. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is amazing, I'm sure I'll be going back. One of the best things...they have matches!!! A lost gem of restaurants.

Eugene R.

Yelp
An elevated food experience for the tricities. Easy reservation process and courtesy call about an hour in advance to check if we had any special needs or allergies. We had an early dinner (5:15) but were seated promptly at our reservation time. The attentiveness of the waitress slipped some as other tables started arriving. Great menu to choose from and several mouthwatering specials. Duck breast was perfectly cooked and flavored.

B I.

Yelp
Celebrating our wedding anniversary at Juniper was an excellent recommendation from a friend! Glad I made the reservation in advance since they book up quickly, and I understand why. Great staff, everything was delicious, and it was a cozy environment that allowed us to still talk throughout the various courses of our meal.

Sophia C.

Yelp
10/10 Incredible three course meal and service. Brought big inflatable balloons for the birthday girl #60 and celebrated like nothing else! Had a classier atmosphere with high energy.

Ella K.

Yelp
This is my mom's favorite restaurant. It is the best restaurant and most modern culinarily that I have been to in the tri cities. The Gnuddi and focaccia was amazing. The chicken was just meh, but the construction on the speciality fish dish was amazing and truly highlighted summer corn but the fish felt a bit like an after thought. It was so so good though. If you come you must order: gnuddi, and the bread. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The servers were super attentive and so helpful with their recommendations!

Richard C.

Yelp
With elevated southern cuisine, Juniper has sophisticated takes on traditional southern dishes. Great atmosphere in a renovated house perfect for business meal or date night. The wait staff consistently checked on us without being annoying.

Tay E.

Yelp
Another 5 star meal, even if we were in Houston or NYC. This time we had the special 50 oz and shared it--wow! One side is a thick filet and the other side is a thick NY strip. I normally don't like NY strip showered the quality of this was so amazing it was like a giant filet mignon. We had leftovers for another few meals as it came with 3 shareable sides. The French onion soup was the best. Ever. We tried the special pork rinds on the menu and even that was amazing. The drinks were uh-may-zing! So glad we have this bold chef in our town--will not be surprised when they win best top restaurant of the south soon if not already. It's that good!

Karen P.

Yelp
Best food I've ever ate! The service is perfect! Very knowledgeable and nice servers. I have had the pork tenderloin and the filet mignon and they were amazing. It was my birthday and they gave us these amazing lemon puff muffin type things that was so gracious and sweet of them.

V A.

Yelp
The goods: nice decor, intimate space, well thought out menu, awesome bar staff The not so good: no parking, rude hostess, great menu but not locally farmed. Skip the oysters....very spicy, greasy broth does not elevate oyster but good at hiding it. Everything else was cooked beautifully!

Olivia C.

Yelp
Amazing costumer service, I sat at the bar and the two behind the bar were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Pork rines were amazing with a kick. Scallops and mushroom risotto were to die for. Best scallops I've had anywhere! Strawberry rhubarb crème brûlée was delicious! Would highly suggest this restaurant!

david b.

Yelp
All around excellent place. Chicken pot pie app is a must have. The oysters (was a special) were the best I've had. Service and atmosphere are incredible. Highly recommended!

MacKenzie S.

Yelp
Every time I come here it has been an incredible experience. The atmosphere is so amazing. The cutest house with great background music and such a charming atmosphere. The staff was so kind and gave us amazing service. Our waitress Whitney was so fabulous and helped us make amazing food decisions. The food was incredible. If you don't get the focaccia bread you are missing out on an incredible savory adventure - literally the two of us destroyed these four slices (in the photo). The salmon was so amazing and fell apart when I touched it. The steak and frites was absolutely stellar. For cocktails: I got the seasonal eggnog drink and wow it was amazing. We then both had a glass of wine which went great with the food. This restaurant is easily the best restaurant in Johnson City. If you're thinking about coming here, take this as your sign!

Sabrina D.

Yelp
Amazing service and great food. Will definitely be going back! The scallops were cooked so well and steaks were great.

Sharon F.

Yelp
Phenomenal restaurant! We celebrated our anniversary here and were impressed with the food, the service, and the nice touches provided by the staff such as complementary champagne and complementary orange madelines . We will definitely be back!

Sharon B.

Yelp
They served us gratis sparkling wine and fresh, warm madeleines for our anniversary dinner. The server was cheerful and not pushy. We got the special, a humongous steak for 2, with our choice of sides/appetizers. They cook it on the hearth. It is tender and I love the three sauces: béarnaise, pepper and chimichurri.

Kellina M.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant in all of the Tri-Cities! The change of cocktails and some appetizers is great so I never get the same thing! I try something different each time. The atmosphere is beautiful and trendy. The service is always great, servers are all so personable and kind. Definitely a must try!

M D.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious! No complaints at all. Even the water was delicious, lol. Service was on point. Our server explained the menu and was very descriptive. Always refilled our drinks and checked up on us. Ambiance has a country-like feel, and it's clean. Tables are pretty close to other tables. It is best to go for a quiet, intimate dinner before 6 pm. The place can get very crowded and very loud after that. You can't barely hear yourself talk. My only con is the price. It is very pricey and going to this restaurant is only for special occasions.

Tiffany B.

Yelp
Everything we had was delicious! It was a very relaxing environment and we didn't feel rushed through our meal. We were able to savor each part of it. The cocktails were superb and the service was friendly, informative, and they really took what we told them we liked and made us some fantastic drinks based on our preferences. The focaccia bread is something you have to get. The French onion soup was amazing and I loved the lemon tart dessert. Overall 10/10.

Colin J.

Yelp
The food, the staff and experience at Juniper are just all amazing!! We love when we have the opportunity to dine there!

Jill M.

Yelp
This was our second time coming back since November... let me say, we were blown away! I got the Steak Frites and my husband got the Scallops with homemade pasta (if I would have known this was made with homemade pasta, I hands down would have ordered this!) both dishes hit it out of the park!! Anyway, when we got there, we were seated at the exact same spot and the exact same waitress we had 9 months ago. I was like, oh no ... only bc last time the sound was so loud, we couldn't hear, but I noticed, they took my advice with the sound panels and let me tell you!!! Way more pleasant experience and I could hear our sweet waitress! The sound panels make a world of difference. Anyway, This place has got it! We were extremely grateful for the love and thought put into our food. I also ordered the chatreuse sour that Mac the bartender made, she is an amazing bartender! Like my last review, we got our first round of drinks pretty fast. But our second round tonight, I watched my husband's beer sit there for over 15 minutes at the bar, while my drink sat there with it for 5. I had to go notify the bartenders. And sweet Mac brought them to our table and the other bartender working said, we switched your beer for another for you, that was so kind and thoughtful. Really appreciated that. At the end of our meal, I tried to explain this to our waitress, that our drinks sat for way too long. I think we may have upset her which was never my intention! She was the kindest and sweetest, but I saw her approach tables around us, but did not acknowledge us at all as that beer sat and sat. The only reason why I am stating this is bc it was just frustrating to see her come around our table, but never grab that dang beer! LOL! Our sweet waitress, if you see this, we only meant good and no harm. The roasted oysters were the freaking bomb, buttery and perfect. The peanut pave, so different but loved the flavor with the raspberry sorbet! Perfection! We are in love with this place and can't wait to sit at the bar next time. Thanks for being in our little area of JC, bc food this good, could be in major cities and kill it!!

Donna L.

Yelp
The food was superb, as well as the atmosphere but our server was subpar. We were seated first(2) of us; then a table of 4. He went to the table of 4 first. When he did make his way to us he was great but that quickly changed when he got more tables. He had a total of 5 including ours; all with parties of 2(except the 4). He never brought us water or checked on us after that. We had to flag him down literally. I think I would go back if I could request a different server. He couldn't handle his load.

Roshelle P.

Yelp
Food and service was top notch. Will definitely be back. They made my birthday dinner very special and everybody enjoyed their meal. (Group of 4)

Kathy H.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing We had the ribeye steak great flavor tender best steak we've had in a while Scallops melt in your mouth The Brussels sprouts are very tasty along with the potatoes I would enjoy both as my meal sides are shareable so you can have one side and share between 2 The service is top shelf with giving recommendations to explaining the menu what or how to order just really helpful and a few off menu items The only thing I thought environment was little loud - Decor and house very nice and not crowded feel You must try it ! We are definitely visiting again

Becky J.

Yelp
Fantastic service, locally sourced food, beautiful ambiance. Everything was delish and cooked to perfection! Our server was awesome! Can't wait to go back!

Alexis H.

Yelp
Juniper was an amazing experience! It beautifully combines gourmet setting and taste with the comforting feels and foods of Appalachia. The food itself had lots of flavor, with subtle nods to the French. Portions were perfect and the price is great for the menu items. Cocktails were decent. The servers were attentive, professional, and the restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated. Food came out earlier than expected. The reservation system online was incredibly easy to use as well. We left happy and eager to return. Our only advice would be better containers for the table waters, perhaps old liquor bottles or glass pitchers instead of the reused plastic ones currently there.

Marzena H.

Yelp
Top of the line food and service, cozy atmosphere and cocktails are amazing! Can't wait to return for more.

Presley H.

Yelp
It was good, I had the pork tenderloin. I would like to try other menu items. With that being said, the menu is not huge. I do wish they had more variety. The service was great. The atmosphere was cozy.

Kathy K.

Yelp
We celebrated a birthday last Thursday and they did a great job. I had called ahead to make sure the bill was taken care of and the guest of honor didn't get the bill. They delivered and were very discrete. The food was so good and unique. Not your run of the mill restaurant. Great service, delicious food and they take care of the details. Make a reservation!

Jenn M.

Yelp
My husband and I have lived in the area two years and finally tried Juniper. After trying amazing cuisine in Austin and Dallas, Texas, as well as the top notch restaurants in Philadelphia and surrounding quaint little towns, we were thrilled to finally find a restaurant that serves 5 star chef prepared food. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented. Our waiter was attentive and went above and beyond. We started with cocktails that were refreshing and exactly what were hoping they'd be. Then we tried the focaccia bread with fennel pollen and handmade honey butter (with local honey) and it didn't disappoint. As we finished the bread our wood roasted oysters arrived on a bed of arugula. I'm not usually a fan of oysters but my husband insisted we get them and I'm so glad we did, they were the perfect temperature and texture and the sauce was buttery smooth and held a tantalizing heat on end. For our main course my husband had the Châtel Farms Ribeye with Au Gratin potatoes and we both had the Brussel sprouts (seriously the best sprouts we've ever had) and my Wood Grilled Salmon that was served with asparagus, oyster mushrooms, Parisian gnocchi, and marcona almond romesco. Everything was served as requested and hot which made us extremely happy. This is definitely going to be our go to place when we want a romantic dinner away from it all, have friends in town we want to wow, or if we are craving a gourmet meal that won't disappoint. I read a lot of reviews complaining of the high prices of this restaurant but they probably have never been to a restaurant where the menus and recipes are hand picked by the chef and all of it is done from scratch and not bags of frozen food dropped in an oven. If you've never been and you have a special occasion coming up, do yourself a favor and make your reservations. You won't regret it!

Larry L.

Yelp
Just got home from Junipers... celebrating our 31 anniversary. Have to say O e of the best experiences we had at any restaurant .. I got the lamb chops and my husband got the scallops special-- both were so delicious!! The focaccia bread is the best. Yum. Also. Our waitress Olivia was outstanding, friendly and made sure we were happy with everything - her smile and attitude really made us enjoy our experience and we will definitely be back sooner then later. Thank you Juniper and Olivia. ;)

Tim R.

Yelp
This is a must place for great food , amazing service and an elegant cozy setting! We come here every time we visit JC and now that TN is our home we will be here much more often!

J R.

Yelp
This place is an absolute must stop if you're in the area. I've been there twice and will continue going. The food is nothing short of amazing, the staff are incredibly friendly and ensure each person feels they're receiving special attention. I could not possibly recommend this restaurant more than what I do. Parking can be crowded so be prepared to park in the street behind the restaurant.

Westley O.

Yelp
Another delicious meal at Juniper. You can see my previous review, but can't say this enough... BEST RESTAURANT IN JOHNSON CITY. You can tell from the photos but everything from the appetizers, small plates, main course, and dessert is top notch. Service stands out as well. Highly recommend the chicken pot pie croquettes and the focaccia bread. I didn't think bread could taste that good. Again, definitely a pricey meal but for a special occasional, it cannot be beat in the area

Misty S.

Yelp
We went to Juniper to celebrate my husbands birthday and 10 year cancer remission. By far the best restaurant we have been to in our area! The server was so knowledgeable and friendly. She knew when to show up and when to just let us enjoy our meal. She knew the menu front to back and had great recommendations for us to try. We can't wait to go back and sample more of what Juniper has to offer!!

Julia B.

Yelp
First time visiting this new restaurant and what a treat! We had no reservations so we sat at a high top at the bar. French Onion soup delicious. Beets with blue cheese- excellent. Trout also tasty. And the peanut butter warmed cookie with ice cream was very good. The prices are on the high end, but we felt it was worth it. We will be back.

Darlene A.

Yelp
First time visiting this restaurant and it was spectacular. Wonderful setting, server, food and ambience. Highly recommend!!

Paul D.

Yelp
Food was excellent! Better than any New York City restaurants I've tried. A real gem in Johnson City.

Debby L.

Yelp
Kitchen needs some fine tuning. The Brussel sprouts were too charred and so bitter. They needed a touch more honey or some kind of sweetener to offset the bitterness. The potatoes au gratin were so soupy. Hardly any potatoes and it was like eating cheesy potato soup. Too much liquid and lack of seasoning. We had the Denver steak which was excellent. Wine and specialty cocktail selection good.

Gabriella K.

Yelp
Make reservations! This place is popular. The food is delicious. You are not rushed . Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. The French onion soup is amazing. GET THE FOCACCIA. They had a medley of mushrooms that was incredible and local. The fried chicken was great and the portion was generous. Everyone at the table got the Out to Lunch drink. Very good. Great bartender. Save room for dessert! Clean bathrooms. Lights are dimmed. Nice, cozy intimate environment.

Jen B.

Yelp
This place is worth driving to JC to eat. I wish they had a sister restaurant in Knox. Food is awesome, drinks were crafty and impressive. The Trout dinner was unbelievable!!Service was great, but the center room is busy and loud. For dessert we ordered coconut cake and lemon tart with basil ice cream - they were worth going back, but I may just ask for the basil ice cream, HOLY CR*P GOOD; it was worth the visit in itself! As much as the people in JC wanna keep this place a secret, I want them to do good enough to bring this deliciousness to Knoxville! Highly recommend!

Marion P.

Yelp
Excellent service. Ambiance was appropriate for farm to table but nothing extraordinary. Food was excellent. We shared a few apps - Brussels sprouts was my favorite. Others we shared were beets, chicken croquettes (usually 5 we paid extra for 6), mushrooms. My entree scallops was superb. My friends had salmon and duck which I tried but scallops I thought were the best. I had Chandon rose which I've had before and enjoyed; my friends liked their cocktails. Dessert we had peanut butter cookie and vanilla ice cream soooo good and creme brulee which I didn't love bc it wasn't the classic creme brulee. Would recommend and if I was back in Johnson City I would return.

Dawn S.

Yelp
Juniper is an amazing restaurant that we are fortunate to have in our area. We have been several times! The service and food is top notch each and every time. Our server was Oliva and she was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. The food and drinks are OUTSTANDING! Don't wait, book your reservation now for a fantastic experience. I love that they don't rush your dining experience, they are attentive to allergies and they go above and beyond to accommodate. We can't wait to visit again!

Kayla H.

Yelp
Simply put, delicious. Beautiful restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere. Our waiter was fantastic and so fun. Glad JC has an upscale place to dine, finally.

Jeff G.

Yelp
Juniper! Very well executed American Fare. Service was equally impressive: not too distant but not overbearing either... Beautiful ambiance that was approachable but very tasteful. Plenty of great menu choices that were both seasonally specific and thoughtfully crafted. From start to finish superb execution.

Randy D.

Yelp
Great food and incredible service!! Atmosphere was so nice. Went for our anniversary and they made us feel special!!
