I thought I would give this hotel a proper and updated review. We are staying here for two weeks in one of their beach bungalows. Our twin girls sleep on the loft and love climbing up and down the ladder to get to their room. The beds are firm and comfortable. Being right on the beach, we sleep and wake up to the sound of the ocean. Naturally, we track in some sand after a full day of playing. The hotel cleans everyday, changing our sheets and towels. Staff here are very friendly. There is security on foot that patrols the property every night. Keep in mind, that being right on the beach in a tropical environment is the vacation we wanted. We enjoy the lizards, cats and the sound of wild birds, and we prefer an ocean breeze and fans over an A/C.
We love music so we enjoy the afternoon and evening sounds too. Hotel guests receive a discount for eating in their restaurants. El Jardin for their fresh juices like beet and orange juice is delicious and their chiliquiles is great. La Isla for their happy hour from 4-5pm is two margaritas (or beer) for the price of one. Their guacamole, tostadas and ceviches are fresh, delicious and a good amount of food. Our kids like the cheese quesadillas and pasta pomodoro. The restaurant has swinging outdoor beds and swings at the bar for our girls to stay entertained.
We surf everyday and rented a surfboard for $10 per day for two weeks. Waves (breaks mostly right) are fun and consistent to the left or south of the hotel. With better and bigger conditions, nice, peeling lefts break right in front of the restaurant. For kids, I recommend going to the left (south side) of the beach because it is sandier. It's rockier in front of the hotel.
I have been in contact with Maria (Super Host) on Airbnb and she is responsive, friendly and very helpful. She arranged for our transportation to and from PVR airport. Cost for round trip transportation in an SUV for four is $130 (US dollars).
A tip for tourists- like many places, be prepared for American prices- like a $9 burger at the restaurant if you eat American food. However, a plate of guacamole and ceviche in the states would cost double and you're getting it here for $5 and it's super fresh. Not for better or worse, it just depends on your preference. Staying off the strip will generally have better prices for alcohol and groceries. We got to know our driver, Alberto and we ate at his wife's restaurant (in front of their home)- a family of four, meals and drinks for $16 total. We did the same on the strip and it cost $36.
We walk everywhere and we find it easy to get around town. We rented a golf cart for a day ($50) and explored Sayulita neighborhoods and neighboring beaches- really fun! There's a lot to consider and I humbly write this post as a tourist who enjoys to travel like a local. Cheers and safe travels on your journey.
