Writer John Muir Explored Southern Australia — Here's How I Retraced His Steps

"That trend was evident at my first stop: Jurlique, the plant-based-skin-care brand that grows its own ingredients on a 154-acre organic farm. The manager, Cherie Hutchinson, led me through fields of violet, licorice, chamomile, and other Mediterranean transplants. 'Hot summers and wet winters are perfect for plants,' she said of the local climate." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Popped into Julique 'Farm shop' on way back from visit to Adelaide Hills. On entry you're met with an exquisite view and scent of flower fields. The shop sells at retail so it offers equivalent value to what you'd get at Chadstone. Despite being the last customers of the day, the service was personable and patient... Do leave plenty of time to enjoy the windy drive as the farm is a good 10km from Handorf Village. Farm tour by booking only.

Beautiful experience at Julique Farm today. We went behind the scenes with Lexie who was informative and knowledgeable. It was lovely to learn about the farm and how the brand started. . At the end we got to make our own bottle of oil and choose our own botanical scents! It was a lovely afternoon and we recommend doing this tour if you are in Adelaide.

The farm is quite big but it's not accessible to public unless you book a tour. There is a shop dough where you can buy items at discounted rate. The lady of the reception was very friendly and easy to talk to.

I was actually surprised that I enjoyed the visit (being a man), Fay was our host and such a pleasant girl, the passion and knowledge was evident. The whole process from growing to market was more intricate than I imagined. I also liked the growing of different Plants/ Herbs within the gardens to deter pests. Australian Grown, picked, processed packed and delivered, doesn't get better than that. Remember, " kneel down on one knee, back straight not like a Lounging Kangaroo when picking flowers ". Thank you Fay. Tony and Mei Mei

Our tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable. The trail was an easy walk, mostly flat. We left with a much deeper understanding of the process taken to make the products, which are high quality and locally made.

Great place to visit. If you do visit, do the tour but you will need to book in advance online. The tour takes you through the garden and allows you to sample some of their products along the way. The guide was very knowledgeable and explains a lot of the sustainable practises of Jurlique. At the end of the tour you can buy some products from the store at a 10% discount too. Only call out is that the tour is about 95% outside and on a hot summers day it could be quite unpleasant, so dress appropriately - book a sensible time of day or bring an umbrella.

I had bad feeling whole day after being kicked off from the farm. I visited your farm expecting a pleasant walk and to explore your rose and lavender products. After leaving the shop without purchasing, I decided to walk around first to have an inspiration from the local nature first, have a think about what to order and enjoy the farm first. I went to rose patches and lavender patch and the way was clearly indicated closed. I went to the back of the farm to see if there is anything else to explore as there are some more space to see and no map was on my way. I saw a woman with a picnic bag or a food bag returning from another place seems to be interesting near the clearly marked toilets and assumed the area was open to visit. Before went there I have decided to have a rest and sit on the bench as I received bad news from my family member. However, a staff member asked me to leave, despite there being no signs indicating it was restricted. When I asked if I could sit a little longer, she agreed, but 5 mins later, another staff member rudely asked me to leave again. She said LEAVE NOW. Leaving that place I asked if I can sit on the bench under a tree near car park. And she said I cant sit there. She insisted to leave the farm and make sure I go to my car and leave now. I decided not to return to their shop or buy their products ever.
