Jvari Monastery

It is beautiful. It is situated on the top of a mountain with beautiful views. The building itself is very pretty as well. You can see the town of Mtsheka right across the river. Overall, you can spend and hour or three if you just want to sit down and soak in the views. The entry and parking is free.

I recently visited the Jvari Monastery ⛪ and I'm still in awe! The views from up there were absolutely breathtaking; I could see the whole city 🏙️! Exploring the ancient architecture was like stepping back in time, it was amazing. I highly recommend adding this beautiful place to your bucket list, you won't regret it. It's a must-see if you're ever in that area, trust me!

It is an ancient cave town. The path was nice with a small hike up to the top. The exit was easy through the tunnel. We had taken a guide who gave us all the history about the place and charged 45 Lari. Worth visiting the place.

That simplicity is what makes them so special.

Perched atop a hill, Jvari Monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, and the surrounding valleys. The scenery from the top is nothing short of majestic — it feels like standing above time, gazing at Georgia’s natural and spiritual beauty all at once. The monastery itself is serene and soul-soothing. Its ancient stone walls carry a deep sense of history, and the stillness inside inspires quiet reflection. There's a sacred calm that embraces you the moment you step in, encouraging introspection and peace. A must-visit not just for its historical significance, but for the feeling it leaves you with — grounded, calm, and awed by the simplicity of faith and nature. Just outside the monastery, we met a wonderfully friendly local who was taking photos and placing them in beautiful magnetic frames as keepsakes. His energy was infectious — so warm, cheerful, and genuinely welcoming. He added an extra spark to the visit, and the photo he captured made for a perfect souvenir of such a meaningful place.
