Greater Palm Springs Now Has a New Autism-Friendly Resort - AFAR

"An 893-room, 450-acre Palm Desert resort — the largest in the city with sweeping Coachella Valley views — has become the first hotel in Greater Palm Springs to receive Certified Autism Center accreditation from IBCCES. The designation followed staff training during 2022 and an IBCCES sensory audit, and reflects a property-wide commitment to accommodate guests with a range of neurodivergent conditions, including autism and ADHD. Practical changes focus on managing sensory environments: signs throughout the grounds rate sensory impact on a 1–10 scale for each of the five senses, a special property map (available at the front desk and via QR code) highlights low- and high-sensory areas (for example, putting greens and lawns are labeled low while the arcade and aviary are high), and a bin of soothing tools — noise-canceling headsets, fidget toys, weighted blankets, and other aids — is available for guests to check out. The resort emphasizes empowering staff to meet guests where they are so families with different needs can access its many activities and amenities comfortably." - Matt Villano

We had a fantastic stay at the JW Marriott Desert Springs! The room was spacious, clean, and had an amazing view—definitely made the trip feel like a true getaway. The service throughout the resort was top-notch. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, professional, and made sure we were taken care of. The gym was well-equipped with everything you’d need for a good workout, which we really appreciated. The restaurants on-site served delicious, well-prepared meals, and even the room service exceeded our expectations—everything arrived hot, fresh, and flavorful. And the breakfast buffet was a 10/10! The pool area was a highlight—such a fun and relaxing vibe. We especially enjoyed the DJ by the pool, though we do wish the music had gone on a bit later than 4 PM. Still, it didn’t take away from the great time we had. Overall, an amazing experience. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

We were excited to stay at this hotel for a relaxing poolside escape. with lots of fun amenities for the kids. Checking in the staff was great (everything from giving out ice cold bottled water and treating you all friendly)our experience was not as relaxing or serene as we had hoped. The pool was overcrowded so that the main pool was under construction, Were told that the main pool was going to be open the following day and that was a lie the whole time we where here that pool was closed. There was No seats at any of the two pools, much less in the shade. The second day we ask about the main pool being open and they gave us the bad news that the pool was going to be reopened until Friday, the pool did not feel the cleaned because the two pools where always crowded and the staff didn’t clean right the following day I walked around the pool early in the morning and check the pool trying to get a good spot and I noticed they didn’t clean the pool there was trash inside the pool and jacuzzi this place supposed to be a luxury resort we rented 2 rooms and it was super expensive and this is what we get??? Come on We didn't really do anything with the kids beside ride bikes…. Such a bummer - we really wanted to like this hotel! During our visit there was construction on the main pool that was bummer!!! The other pools where overcrowded. During the day no pool service was available on one side of the pool so it was inconvenient when traveling with kids plus The staff at the pool were really rude when you ask them a question that made me feel uncomfortable. The food was not so good the chicken tenders for the kids didn’t tasted good beside taking a long time to get them. The food was just poorly I was very disappointed. My kids were disappointed. I would love to get what we pay for. Hopefully the resort look into satisfying the customer.

Checking in oliver at the front desk absolutely set the bar by giving us the most beautiful view my eyes have ever seen. Enjoying the balcony facing the pool and watching the boats go by was a highlight of our trip! When we needed questions answered and recommendations drew at the front desk was awesome! We have not stopped talking about this trip since we have been home. Even in 106 degrees heat the staff was a breath of fresh air when we needed time away from work the most. Love the DJ by the pool on saturdays, we were there a little over 24 hours and next time we have agreed we need to do 3 nights to truly explore the entire property. Some of the best sleep in the fluffiest bed. We want to thank the staff but more specifically oliver and drew at front desk for making this trip special and relaxing!

Just got back from an incredible weekend getaway at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert, and I’m already itching to go back! This place is totally amazing. The facility is stunning—super clean, modern, and just has that luxe vibe without feeling stuffy. The staff? Everyone was so friendly and on top of things, making the whole stay seamless and relaxing.||The highlight for us was the gorgeous lake right outside the hotel. It’s connected to the property, and you can hop on a boat ride that starts inside the lobby—how cool is that? We took the boat at sunset, and let me tell you, the views were unreal. The sky was all pinks and purples, reflecting on the water. Total magic.||Food-wise, the hotel’s got some solid options. We loved Rockwood Grill—highly recommend grabbing a table there for dinner. The sunset views are next-level, and you get to watch the swans gliding by on the lake. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to linger with a glass of wine.||Honestly, this place nailed it for a quick escape from LA. It’s the perfect mix of chill and fancy, and we’re already planning our next trip. If you’re looking for a spot to unwind with great service and killer views, this is it!

Overall, I had a great time at the hotel and spa facilities. The hotel was clean and exceeded my expectations The spa staff was wonderful and accommodating. The reason I am writing a review is for the security staff. I was originally denied entrance to the pool facilities due to my insulin. I understand coolers/outside food are not allowed at certain places, but I did explain to the guard that I am an insulin dependent diabetic and proved I had no food on me. I simply wanted entrance with insulin to purchase lunch onsite. He tried denying me twice and had to escalate to a manager to be let in. The manager was kind but that is a training issue to deny someone entrance due to medication and to also ask me to throw away my insulin. I did get in but security will need training for this.

Generously sized room. Stayed at main tower, which can be noisy because the doors face internally and the lobby bar noise carries even if windows face a quieter area of the resort. Lovely bathrobe but no slippers. There is a shower stall and a soaking tub in the bathroom. Beds were very comfortable. ||I was there for a conference so didn't get to take advantage of all of the amenities, but did enjoy a few hours at the spa (bought a day pass on resortpass.com, but looked like others bought at the front desk). The resort fees include some golf amenities that I couldn't use, and the group fitness classes I was excited about were mostly on the weekend or a Monday, before I'd arrived. ||Wish the spa had a cold plunge -- there is a sauna, two steam rooms (one hotter), hot tub, large outdoor pool, and many relaxation areas including those with massage chairs. I wish there was a no talking rule because it wasn't altogether relaxing listening to people talk rather loudly.||Gym is very large with many peloton bikes and a large weight machine/free weight area. Didn't feel crowded even though there were lots of people inside. ||The food was really good but, as you can imagine for a resort, the in-room dining prices were pretty astronomical. It seemed like the resort was pretty short-staffed -- dinner took nearly an hour to arrive and my room wasn't cleaned even though I was gone from noon-5pm. ||There are a few shops on the resort selling various touristy clothing and items, but I couldn't find a convenience store selling toiletries/snacks. ||Overall, a perfectly fine resort but maybe I expected more given the JW Marriott name.

The best part of this visit was the concierge’s impeccable service! Please visit Patti and you will see what I mean. She took the time to help us Research resort pass and find the best deal for us to use the pool for the day. She was so friendly and professional And I just wanted to leave a gleaming review for her!

JW Marriott in Palm Springs never fails. I’ve stayed here over the years—13 years ago, 6 years ago, and now—and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. The rooms have been nicely updated, and the bathrooms were fully renovated, which was a great touch. Modern, clean, and comfortable.||The staff? Absolutely top-tier. Everyone had a smile, and the energy was genuinely warm and welcoming. What really stood out was how they treated our kids—with love, kindness, and real respect. That kind of vibe is rare, and it’s exactly why this resort has my loyalty.||A small moment that really impressed me: my kids wanted to play soccer, so I asked if they had a ball. Not only did they hand one over with a smile, but when I offered my ID as collateral, they simply said, “No need—just enjoy your time and bring it back when you’re done.” That’s the kind of service that feels old-school in the best way. That’s gangster in the most respectful, classy sense. I loved it—and my kids did too.||The pool areas were super clean and well maintained. Yes, service poolside could be a bit quicker, but overall, no complaints. Our rooms were connecting, which made it easy for the kids to hang out together while the adults snuck off for a well-deserved drink at the bar. Win-win.
