7 Maldives Resorts That Are Redefining the Islands

"There isn't a hibiscus plant out of place at this Indian Ocean escape set in the far-northern Shaviyani atoll. The neighboring islands are mostly undeveloped, so the seaplane transfer, at about an hour, is a little longer than most, but the payoff comes in the form of never-ending horizons, uninterrupted expanses of sea, and crystal-clear night skies. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end of the island to the other—which makes it medium-size by Maldivian standards. Offshore, there's a large house reef where you can see large white-tip reef sharks, moray eels, and clouds of shoaling fish. For bigger marine thrills, a dolphin cruise yields sightings in the thousands, and a fishing expedition turns up sailfish the size of small children. Back on dry land there are two main swimming pools, a glass-encased spa, and a gigantic kids' club, not to mention 60 pool villas shaped like upturned galleons. There are overwater and land options; skip the former in favor of a spacious, bougainvillea-veiled plot of sand just feet from the ocean. The duplexes, with their upstairs living rooms, are excellent for families. Inside, the decor strays from the usual Maldivian teak chic toward muted shades of blue and amethyst. Among the five superb restaurants, the lunch-only Kaashi is a standout for authentic Thai. There are also three bars, including one by the pool with the Missoni stripes along the bottom, and another serving 98 types of rum inside a tree house overlooking the beach. While there aren't many surprises, this is a polished take on the tropical-paradise blueprint."

My stay at JW Marriott Maldives has truly been one of the best hospitality experiences I have ever had. The resort is breathtaking—from its stunning design to the serene surroundings—and the attention to detail in every corner reflects a genuine commitment to luxury and comfort. The villa was beautifully maintained, thoughtfully arranged, and offered the perfect blend of elegance and relaxation. Room service was exceptionally prompt and courteous, and the food throughout the property was outstanding, with every meal crafted to perfection. I would especially like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Bhagyashree, Rameez, Dinesh, Jaish, Zack and the rest of the incredible staff. Their warm hospitality, professionalism, and genuine care elevated the entire experience. They ensured that every moment of my stay felt special, personal, and truly memorable. JW Marriott Maldives has set a new benchmark for excellence. I’m already looking forward to my next visit, and I cannot recommend this remarkable resort highly enough.

Our stay at the JW was nothing short of incredible. The property itself is stunning – the villas are unreal, beautifully designed, and the overall vibe is peaceful and serene. What truly set our experience apart, though, was the service. It was absolutely unmatched. A special shout-out to Najaah our Thakur, ITA and Reni, manaoor , Satyam, who went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable – every interaction was warm, thoughtful and genuinely caring. Chef Dinesh and his team turned every meal into a culinary experience. From breakfast to dinner, the food was exceptional, with so much attention to detail and flavour. Overall, I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a luxurious, relaxing and memorable getaway. Can’t wait to come back!

We had a wonderful stay at JW Marriott Maldives and truly felt taken care of from start to finish.||Our butler, Najaah, was outstanding, attentive, warm, and genuinely caring. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a duplex villa, which gave us plenty of space and comfort as a family. Later during the stay, we asked if we could also experience a beach villa, and the team accommodated the move quickly and seamlessly. That flexibility made us feel very special and well looked after.||This is an excellent property for families traveling with kids. The fact that children eat free is an incredible value, especially considering the quality of the food. Everything we tried was consistently very good. The kids club was another highlight — well run, engaging, and something our kids genuinely enjoyed.||A special mention as well to Executive Chef Bir, who regularly made the rounds and took the time to chat with guests, which added a very personal touch to the dining experience. One standout meal was at the Japanese steakhouse, where we enjoyed an excellent wagyu ribeye.||Overall, this was a fantastic trip made even better by a truly kind and professional team. The service felt thoughtful and sincere, and the atmosphere was relaxed yet refined. A beautiful resort that delivers both for adults and for families with children.

This was a much looked forward to, and long planned special treat for us. We both always wanted to visit the Maldives but had been put off by the prices.|We looked at so many accommodation options to try and select the right one for us, and eventually we decided we would be loyal to our favoured Marriott Bonvoy brands. Then we had many options including W, St Regis, Sheraton and Westin but after watching endless videos and reading reviews decided the JW Marriott was the one that suited us best. We managed to use a load of Bonvoy Points for the booking and chose an Overwater Sunrise Villa. We communicated a few times before our arrival with questions about our stay and the responses were always timely and helpful. |We arrived at the international airport and were met by the JW Representative who whisked us through the airport to the Seaplane terminal, checked us in and handed us over to the Trans Maldivian Airline Representatives. The arrangements were so well organised and having seen the chaos at the airport we were so happy to have the help. Our arrival at the Hotel was lovely, a group of staff greeted us warmly and we were introduced to our Butler Naajah. He took us on a short tour of the island and then to our villa A148. The Villa was well appointed and everything was clean and well maintained. The attention to detail was obvious. Air conditioning that worked well, curtains that locked out the light, and an abundance of towels and other amenities including bottled water and coffee making facilities. |We spent a week here and felt very well looked after. Naajah and all the staff called us by name, and really cared about how we were. All the staff were pleasant and we did not have a single negative experience. The food in Aalia which is where we ate most meals was exceptional. Breakfast buffet catered for all tastes with Western and Asian dishes and the usual egg station. The evening menu is vast and we tried many items and never disappointed. The Chef was so attentive and regularly checked if we were ok and recommended dishes he thought we should try. The Thai treehouse restaurant Kaashi was delightful, and a great place for lunch. The Horizon Bar was a great place to enjoy the sunset, and the lovely barmen there let us sample a different cocktail every evening, fabulous!|Although we were told the resort was almost full we never felt like we were part of a crowd and it was mostly so lovely and quiet everywhere. The Aailaa singers that entertained us at dinner were lovely, they sang a very diverse list of music though at times I thought they may have hacked in to my personal Playlist, a real treat.|I would love to list every member of staff that made our stay so special, but it would be impossible, but Mohit the GM should be proud of his team, without exception they made us feel special. Special thanks to Naajah though who quietly checked on us a few time each day, and to Bhagyashree who always found time to chat with us ensuring we were happy. |Our One Off Treat will for sure be repeated - We hope to return to the JW Marriott Maldives, very soon.

Our stay at the JW Marriott Maldives was absolutely exceptional. The resort is stunning, but what truly made the experience unforgettable were the people.||Najaah, our Thakura, was outstanding—warm, attentive, and always one step ahead. He anticipated every need and made us feel completely cared for from start to finish. His service alone elevated the entire stay.||Arbind, the yoga instructor, added a beautiful sense of balance and calm to our days. His yoga sessions were thoughtful, restorative, and perfectly suited to the breathtaking setting.||An incredible resort made extraordinary by extraordinary people.||⸻

We spent a little more than a week at JW Marriott just now. The staff (Malla our Thakuru, Kabir the housekeeper, James, Ita, Adam, Yuki, Ibbe, Dinesh....just to name a few...) were ABSOLUTELY friendly and did an amazing job!!! They all work hard, many hours and daily. The food was delicious and we liked the fact that there was no buffet. So, it felt there was a little less food waste....we did diving and Hussain and his team at the activities center did an amazing job. Also, wind surfing was fun! Their Yoga teacher Arbind was very well educated. I have taken Yoga lessons in many places, but he did just a great job. Thank you for making this trip so special!

My boyfriend and I spent weeks researching which hotel/resort to stay at during our first visit to the Maldives and we can't have chosen better than the JW Marriott. The whole island has a quiet luxury feel to it with impecable service from the most friendly, efficient and professional team. We were extremely well taken care of by Hassan who saw to our every need and helped make our trip even more memorable. I also experienced very warm and thorough medical support during the last 2 days of my trip from Dr. Thander, Bhagya and Swati.
