7 Maldives Resorts That Are Redefining the Islands

"There isn't a hibiscus plant out of place at this Indian Ocean escape set in the far-northern Shaviyani atoll. The neighboring islands are mostly undeveloped, so the seaplane transfer, at about an hour, is a little longer than most, but the payoff comes in the form of never-ending horizons, uninterrupted expanses of sea, and crystal-clear night skies. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end of the island to the other—which makes it medium-size by Maldivian standards. Offshore, there's a large house reef where you can see large white-tip reef sharks, moray eels, and clouds of shoaling fish. For bigger marine thrills, a dolphin cruise yields sightings in the thousands, and a fishing expedition turns up sailfish the size of small children. Back on dry land there are two main swimming pools, a glass-encased spa, and a gigantic kids' club, not to mention 60 pool villas shaped like upturned galleons. There are overwater and land options; skip the former in favor of a spacious, bougainvillea-veiled plot of sand just feet from the ocean. The duplexes, with their upstairs living rooms, are excellent for families. Inside, the decor strays from the usual Maldivian teak chic toward muted shades of blue and amethyst. Among the five superb restaurants, the lunch-only Kaashi is a standout for authentic Thai. There are also three bars, including one by the pool with the Missoni stripes along the bottom, and another serving 98 types of rum inside a tree house overlooking the beach. While there aren't many surprises, this is a polished take on the tropical-paradise blueprint."

Hello! In April we had a wonderful vacation at this hotel. We will remember the vacation for its beautiful nature of the Maldives and the excellent service of the hotel staff. They were all very friendly, smiling, caring. I would especially like to mention the head of the restaurants, Zahir, who was everywhere and offered the best with a smile. Sovia and Mizhgona, who served in the restaurants with all the warmth and care, sincerely interested in impressions and views on life. Chef Samira amazed us with her culinary skills, preparing very juicy steaks and fish. We have been to the best hotels and restaurants in the UAE and other countries, but it was Samira's steaks that conquered our stomachs, and his modesty and kindness - our hearts! Beagi and butler Anastasia promptly responded to our requests and tried to make the vacation better. And Imbaa... in my opinion, Imbaa is the heart of the hotel with its dazzling smile, kind heart, sparkling eyes, big warm hands and wonderful intentions. |It was very sad, sad to tears, to leave the hotel, which differed from the previous ones precisely in its cordiality and sincerity, friendly team, similar to one big family. |Thank you for the time spent in this family. We wish you prosperity and grateful tourists! Most likely, you need to choose the right season so that there are fewer insects, which somewhat darkened our vacation.

My wife and I went to the JW Marriott for our honeymoon with high expectations and those were met and beyond exceeded. We came for a beautiful, luxury island resort with ocean villas and stayed for the incredible staff that made our visit one of a kind. |The team was incredibly thoughtful, proactive, and kind from the moment we landed in Male airport. We were met by Marriott staff that handled our entire seaplane transfer to the island and received a warm greeting when we stepped off the seaplane that continued all the way through our departure home. The team was wonderfully coordinated, extremely responsive, and anticipated our needs before we even knew we needed them! |A very special shoutout to three individuals who made our stay above and beyond: Naawish, our guest manager / butler, who orchestrated our stay masterfully with all the staff on the island and made sure ever second of our stay was amazing. Lahiru, the sommelier and beverage lead, who turned every pool day and meal into a new memory with his knowledge, charisma, and passion for his guests and his craft. And Sameera, the head chef, who has created 5 unique and amazing restaurants on the island and who ensured every meal (even breakfast!) was special. There are so many more individuals we’d love to recognize if there was more room, so thank you to everyone at the JW for a once in a lifetime trip!

Our stay was very peaceful, surrounded by beauty, delicious food, warm ocean breeze and genuine friendly service. This was our first time at The Marriott Maldives, and would definitely recommend. Our ocean villa was dreamy! Bigger than what it looks on pics! Hassan took very good care of us. We established a friendship by the end of our stay.

My stay at JW Marriott Maldives was truly memorable—highlighted by a generous upgrade, a magical birthday dinner by the beach, and exceptional service from my butler, Ziyad. Thai chefs Kwan and George made me feel at home with their authentic cuisine. However, one area for improvement is communication around maintenance. Unannounced noise disrupted the peaceful atmosphere, which is vital for guests seeking tranquility. I hope this can be addressed to uphold JW Marriott’s high standards.

My wife and I visited the JW Marriott resort for the first time but certainly not the last. The whole experience from arrival to departure was an absolute pleasure. Greeted by the team and then taken to our villa by our butler Hassan. Hassan was on call all week for anything required and he did the job admirably. ||The food was excellent and a special shout out to the sommelier and bar manager Lahiru. Attentive to our every need he went above and beyond anything one would expect. ||Incredible location and incredible hosts. A travellers dream. Thank you all.

As a repeat visitor to Maldives after WA and LUX we were looking forward to a new experience. Had an awesome 9 days stay at JW. Even at a decent occupancy it felt like our private island - only time we realized how many guests are on the island was at breakfast or dinner but that too was all well organized. I wish i could remember all the names as everyone we encountered on the Island was remarkable. ||Villa|Had the spacious 2 bedroom duplex villa which was perfect for our family of 6. It was modern and well maintained. The pool is big for a comfortable swim and private with a nice green partition from the beach. ||Butler |Saddam was awesome, he was like a "genie in the bottle". Immediately responsive providing top notch service. With no spares on this trip, I lost my glasses while swimming in the ocean (yes tell me about it) - i sent Saddam the prescription, he shared few options to select from and WOW - the new glasses arrived within 24hours. As my prescription is quite high he really saved my trip and really appreciate how challenging it must have been to get me prescription frames on a remote island within such short time. Other random requests like these were managed effortlessly. Service at this resort is truly world-class. ||Food |We were All inclusive which included Alacarte order for lunch/dinner which i always prefer more than buffets. Breakfast buffet had a varied selection of fresh fruits, juices and different cuisine. Lunches and Dinners were all marvelous and by the third day we were just being made customized meals. True gastronomical bliss. Ex Chef Denish and others chefs and servers were all amazing. Thai tree top restaurant which is open for lunch led by the talented Chef Kanaka and her team was awesome and we mostly had lunches there. My heartfelt thanks to all of them. All inclusive includes amazing mocktails which we enjoyed. The speciality Japanese and Steakhouse are great we had a meal there in a specially arranged outdoor setting. ||Kids Club |The crew led by Gordano are all wonderful and caring. The kids loved the activities. On the last day even though we were leaving early morning, Gordano came with gifts for the kids and gave a warm see-off, again a kind gesture and example of how the team at JW goes the extra mile. Kids still talk about the kids club and its team everyday. ||SPA |Good facilities and enjoyed the SPA sessions. They have complimentary YOGA and Workout sessions at sunrise and sunset. The instructor customized it, whereas at other resorts those were just come do it and leave. At JW these lessons had personalized tips for my daily routine. Ankit the Yoga instructor and the SPA therapist was excellent. ||Happy Island|It was an overall happy place with all staff sharing the shared purpose of keeping guests happy. I felt the inter staff volleyball tournament which was taking place during our stay was nice as happy staff means better service for the guests. My kids enjoyed some of the games. ||The GM of the hotel Mohit is amazing and true asset for Marriott, i foresee him climbing very high on the Marriott ladder as he has amazing warmth, care and compassion towards the guests and was always active around the resort. Having stayed at top notch properties around the world i can safely say this resort is amazing and we look forward to being back. ||As there is always room for improvement. I have two suggestion: The wifi signal on the beach should be stronger, there should be hotel sponsored snorkelling trip few times a week.

We spent our honeymoon at the JW Marriott Maldives, and it was genuinely one of the most extraordinary experiences we've ever had. The setting is, of course, breathtaking — crystal-clear waters, beautifully designed villas, and everything you'd hope for in a luxury Maldivian escape. But what truly set this trip apart was the care and attention from the team. We were incredibly lucky to be looked after by Anastasia, who made our stay feel completely effortless and unforgettable. She anticipated every need before we even had to ask, and the thoughtful touches she arranged throughout our trip made it feel deeply personal and special. From start to finish, she went above and beyond — she’s truly exceptional, and we can’t thank her enough. On the day Anastasia was off, Janice stepped in and took wonderful care of us, ensuring everything continued to run smoothly and that we still felt completely supported and looked after. If you're planning a honeymoon or a once-in-a-lifetime getaway, we couldn’t recommend JW Marriott Maldives more highly. The setting is pure paradise, but it’s the people — especially Anastasia — who make it unforgettable.
