JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa

"Why book? It’s a sprawling, multi-purpose resort for kids and kids at heart. Set the scene With 40 event spaces that can host more than 6,000 people, the hotel is a hotbed of activity year-round. In the span of five minutes, you might cross paths with conference attendees in business casual, kids in flip flops and floaties, and retirees in polos headed for the Pete Dye–designed golf course. The rooms All of the resort’s 900-plus guest rooms and 85 suites were renovated in 2019 and feature a neutral palette with wallpaper and carpets inspired by patterns found in the natural world. Families will appreciate the ease of adjoining rooms, while the golf-view suites provide easy access to the links. Food and drink There’s a variety of dining concepts, including a Starbucks and a sports bar with two dozen beers on tap and a giant wrap-around screen spanning almost half the length of a football field. For an upscale brunch buffet, complete with carving stations and seafood towers, head to 18 Oaks. The spa Inspired by the traditions of Latin American curanderos, or healers, the adults-only Lantana Spa offers everything from a deep-tissue arnica massage designed specifically for athletes to CBD manis and pedis with hemp oil serum and non-toxic nail polish. The neighborhood/area Covering more than 600 acres, the resort is bigger than some Texas towns, but if you do want to venture out, there’s plenty to see nearby: Natural Bridge Caverns, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the Lone Star State’s wine country are all within an hour drive. The service The staff is eager to please, but busy. Take advantage of the pre-trip concierge services to make dinner reservations, set up tee times, and snag a coveted pool-side cabana. Avoid the lines at check-in with the Marriott mobile app. For families The list of kid-friendly activities is long and includes scavenger hunts, arcade games, and nightly s’mores, but the thing they’re bound to still be talking about long after you’ve left is the water park, featuring a lazy river, man-made beach, and four waterslides. Don't miss Pedernales Falls, a windy tube slide that empties into a secret section of the lazy river with waterfalls. Eco effort Tesla charging stations are available; just bring your adapter. Accessibility There are accessible features throughout and even a hotline you can call to make specific requests. Anything left to mention? The mandatory resort fee covers a few things you might expect—Wi-Fi, unlimited calling, tennis and pickleball court access—and some you might not, like welcome drinks, a one-year subscription to Golf Digest, and a 15 percent discount at the spa bistro." - Tommie Ethington

"A stay at this resort offers the best of many worlds: easy access to San Antonio and its airport, proximity to scenic Hill Country and its wineries, and plenty of on-site amenities to encourage you to hang around. Spread over 600 acres, the property includes an 18-hole golf course, a nine-acre water park (with a winding lazy river and 650-foot rapid river ride), hiking trails, and a 30-room spa, where treatments incorporate Texas-grown ingredients like lavender and sassafras. The facilities fan out from the LEED-certified main building, which houses 1,000 warm, comfortable guestrooms, many of which look out onto the main pool. There are also enough restaurants to warrant a multi-day stay, from an organic-focused spa bistro and a sports bar with local brews, to a Texas-inspired main restaurant and a fine-dining steakhouse set among the golf greens. Each spot uses ingredients sourced within a 150-mile radius of the hotel, and aims to highlight Texas wine and beer. While the kids are off enjoying the water park or video game arcade, adults can take a tequila tasting class or settle into a rocking chair with a good book—then everyone can meet around the indoor or outdoor fireplaces to trade stories."

Came here for a weekend trip with friends and their families (we all have infants/toddlers) and our stay was awesome. Even the basic rooms were very nice and spacious, plenty of amenities, hotel staff was amazing and very accommodating. The pool/lazy river was perfect for everyone. Our little ones had a blast in the kiddie and beach pool. Even us dads had fun riding the slides. Poolside bar did take a little bit to get drinks but was not the end of the world. All the food here was fantastic as well. For being a resort I’d say all food was reasonably priced. The buffets at Cibolo Moon were awesome for both breakfast and dinner. My only complaint about food was there was not very many options for breakfast if you’re an early riser. We had a 7:30 am tee time and aside from Starbucks, there was nothing else for us to eat breakfast. Aside from this, we absolutely loved our stayed and will definitely be heading back in the future.

Great resort and spa. Pamela Little and her staff was awesome. We celebrated our anniversary and JW Marriott SAT made it more special and spectacular. Jakob and his team was awesome. David catered to our needs. The River Bluff provided an excellent customer service. The staff and lifeguards are awesome as well. Highly recommended and definitely comeback 😍

The property is beautiful. We got upgraded to a suite because they ran out of regular King bed rooms - which was extremely spacious! Unfortunately, we couldn't fill the tub with water for our toddler since the stopper was broken. There are good options for dining - not the best food but not bad. The best part of this resort is hands down the waterpark. So many different pools and slides for all ages. We especially loved the sandy area, lazy river, and children's pool. Great kid-friendly resort in Texas!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Service was top notch! A special shout out to the life guard Oliver for going above and beyond to make my little guy's trip extra special! All in our party from 8 years old to 78 had a great time! Food was awesome, though a choice for a fast early breakfast would be helpful for the early risers.

The JW Marriott provided the perfect summer vacation for my family of 5. The room was impeccably clean. Anytime we requested anything, towels, a roll away bed, extra toiletries…we were met with fast and friendly service. My kids loved doing the scavenger hunt and eating s’mores. Pizza at Fiamme was a delicious treat. The pools, lazy river, and slides were perfect entertainment for my kiddos. My husband and I enjoyed them too. Every single employee that we encountered was super kind and quick to meet our needs. I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at this resort. My kids are already asking when we can come back. ||I saw several comments about surprise fees. My reply to that is: download the Marriott bonvoy app and do some research. It’s not hard to read and prepare for everything you will be charged for. I would say the service we were met with well warranted the amount we paid. Thank You SATX JW Marriott!

For the cost it isn’t a great value for two adults who aren’t looking to golf or use a spa. We did take advantage of use of the water park and found it good for a day of fun, but with major water parks in the area it wouldn’t be enough to make us want to return. The fact that as a titanium tier member you aren’t recognized beyond being asked if you want ONE free breakfast (a continental breakfast) or bonus points is just sad. Marriott properties of all levels across the globe have done way better and again at this price point you should be ashamed. Let’s circle back to breakfast… we received ONE day of continental breakfast. ONE. We stayed for two nights, and I hate to keep bringing up the price point, but at this price you don’t think you could throw in free breakfast for each day? Even the continental breakfast? I mean what are we paying for? The hotel is most certainly showing its age. With chipping paint and scuffed walls, stained carpet and leaks from the shower… and that’s just the room, the great hall has definitely seen better days. But I guess guests are so busy staring at the bills for the outrageously priced F&B they don’t notice.

My stay here was very comfortable. I will note if you're arriving on a weekend it was very busy with families which I did not expect. The staff was always very warm and welcoming. For being part of the luxury brand of Marriott I was a little surprised at the lack of personalization especially since I was there for a extended stay on top of being there for a conference. The restaurant options were really good as was the food. Most were a bit over priced for what you're getting (even if it was just a few dollars cheaper it wouldn't have felt as expensive for what you were getting) the quality was good though. Staff was quick to bring me up a fan for my room as the AC only goes down to 65 and I needed it cooler for sleeping. The team that helped with the conference was great, I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing all of the food was for it as I had low expectations for larger group meals and it was really good quality! Overall it was a very nice stay here! I think if the resort fees weren't as much and had more value I'd give it 5 stars vs 4.

The pool and water park are was fantastic. Our grandkids had a blast on all the slides and the lazy river. The employees were all top notch. Super friendly and helpful. Food was good, but we didn’t realize there was a sports bar atmosphere area until we were leaving. The rooms definitely need updating. They are nice, but for the price we expected nicer.

Yelp
We stayed at this Marriott resort for a work conference and extended it for a mini getaway. While parts of the stay were enjoyable, some aspects fell short of expectations. Don't come when it's cold. The pool and lazy river isn't accessible. It's barely heated. Hot tub for the win in 68 degrees weather! There are plenty of good restaurants near by and if you're looking for Church on Sunday - check out Community Bible Church. Highlights: Valet Service: The valet team was exceptional--prompt, professional, and attentive. Honestly, they provided the best customer service throughout our stay. Views & Amenities: Our room, located on one of the top floors, offered stunning day and night views. The tub and step-in shower combo was fantastic, with high-quality body cleansers. Dining: The late-night bar snacks were enjoyable, and the Ciol Moon restaurant stood out as the best dining option at the resort. Their portions were generous, with great breakfast and lunch offerings. Areas for Improvement: Electric Vehicle Charging: The hotel charging stations were not operational, which was disappointing. Valet parking was offered but came at an extra cost, so we opted for self-parking. It would be great if parking could be included in the room stay, especially for EV drivers. Cleanliness: Unfortunately, the curtains in our room had noticeable stains, which was unacceptable for a Marriott resort of this caliber. Towels were also rough to the touch. Communication: As first-time guests, it wasn't clear how to explore the resort grounds, and guest services could have done a better job guiding us. With multiple conferences happening, it felt like the resort struggled to make leisure guests feel welcomed. Dining Notes: Faimme pizza eatery was underwhelming. Meals were served in pizza boxes without clear communication from the staff, and condiments and napkins weren't provided. The pizza itself was disappointing unless you enjoy very thin cardboard crust. Overall: The resort's location on a hill and the spectacular views make it visually impressive.

Yelp
I was double charged at this resort when I went to the spa. The spa refuses to correct the error because they claim their computer can't see the problem even though my bank clearly shows that two charges were made and both payments were processed/cleared. I was forwarded to the resort's accounting department where nobody picked up the phone and no one responded to my voicemail despite having a full business day to do so. I don't even know if it was the right number. It is wildly inappropriate to take your customers money without their consent or knowledge. And it's even more inappropriate to not make any effort to resolve the problem. And it's a super easy problem to fix- it's just shocking. As a customer, I would think that jw Marriot is a brand name that you should be able to trust has their payment processing figured out by now. They clearly do not and they do not seem to care at all that they essentially robbed me of my money. What they've done is blatantly illegal. The last and final time I stayed at a jw Marriot - there was a live bug crawling in between my sheets and at that time, they also didn't really care to make it right. With this recent experience, I'm absolutely appalled at the customer service provided for the price point. This is not a luxury hotel. I've stayed at motels that do a better job than the jw Marriot brand. Don't waste your money with them because they could rob you blind while allowing bugs in your room. It's disgusting and not worth the risk.

Yelp
Great property to stay at year around but came here tonight for their Christmas show ICE and it really was spectacular. So much work and talent in these ice sculptures! You arrive and they give every guest a parka coat which you will need along with some gloves as it is really chilly in there. Amazing Grinch themed ice show that takes about 20 minutes or so to walk through.there is an ice slide mid way though that is included in the admission price and a larger one at the exit for an additional price! Price is a little steep but it really is a fun Christmas experience then you can walk around and enjoy the rest of the property. Stopped for a cocktail though did note the bar is now serving Vegas / NYC priced cocktails ! $23 for a cocktail is up there for SA and Marriott standards but it was pretty good! But the bar was empty which might be telling - as someone that exceeded 126 nights this year in Marriott properties this one is definitely pricey for a drink!! Definitely worth the trip for the Christmas fun!

Yelp
My family and I enjoyed seeing the "Grinch ICE" event at the JW Marriott. The event was a perfect blend of holiday cheer, creativity, and family-friendly fun, set in the stunning, festive atmosphere of the JW Marriott. You're transported into a winter wonderland when you enter the ICE section. The ice sculptures featuring the beloved Grinch and his Whoville friends were incredibly detailed and beautifully crafted. The icy displays, illuminated by colorful lights, created a whimsical and festive scene that was as impressive as entertaining. It's clear that a lot of effort went into making this event memorable, and it truly felt like stepping into a Christmas storybook. The JW Marriott staff was friendly and helpful, ensuring everyone had an unforgettable experience. The temperature-controlled environment kept everyone comfortable, even as we admired the stunning ice sculptures. Plenty of photo opportunities also made capturing the event's magic with family and friends easy. In addition to the fantastic visuals, the event offered a variety of treats and drinks that added to the festive atmosphere. Whether you were there to marvel at the ice art, enjoy a warm drink, or soak in the holiday spirit, the Grinch ICE event at the JW Marriott did not disappoint. We all enjoyed sliding down the ice slide, included with the ticket, and my son enjoyed tubing and making snowballs, which were separate purchases. This event is a must-see if you're looking for a unique, festive experience to get you into the holiday spirit. It's a fantastic way to enjoy the season, and the JW Marriott's attention to detail makes it an event worth attending year after year. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Review only for ICE, holidays 2024- did not stay at the resort: Super fun activity for the holidays! It's the Grinch theme which is amazing. I've been to ICE at the Gaylord in DFW without kids and this one was fun also. You can buy tickets at the resort or online in advance. The ICE show only takes about 20 minutes to walk through, there are small ice slides inside at the end as well which is included with the ICE fee (separate from the ice slides with tubes, that was $25 extra per person). Dress warm, they give you parkas to walk through ICE but it's still very cold! Wasn't crowded on a Thursday. They have the entire resort decorated for the holidays so it was great to walk around the grounds also. We noticed a gift shop and Starbucks in the hotel lobby level and stopped at Cibolo Moon for a quick bite to eat. There's a big gift store as you exit ICE as well. Parking is onsite for $34 or off site with shuttle for a bit less.

Yelp
This year, the JW Marriott hosted ICE!, a frozen Grinch-themed frozen sculpture art display along with a Christmas themed holiday experience! Get the bundle option of activities for Reindeer Ridge. My kids rode the ice hill mountain several times throughout the day. The scavenger hunt was fun too. The hotel was beautifully decorated throughout and was very festive. It's a beautiful hotel on its own but all the lights and decor just make it even more special. We loved our quick getaway and all the onsite activities were perfect for our family of 4. Even the teen and tween had fun! The room was clean and comfortable. We loved our picturesque view of the professional golf course from our balcony.

Yelp
I recently attended the Opticon24 conference at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, and I was thoroughly impressed with the venue and facilities. While I didn't stay overnight, the resort provided an excellent setting for a professional event. The conference facilities were top-notch, with modern, well-equipped spaces comfortably accommodating attendees. Everything was thoughtfully designed, from the layout of the meeting rooms to the seamless flow between sessions. Conference meals can often be hit or miss, but the food here exceeded my expectations. Lunch was buffet-style, with various flavorful and well-prepared options that pleasantly surprised me. The resort takes pride in delivering quality, even for large-scale events. Overall, JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa proved to be an outstanding venue for the conference. Its professional atmosphere, excellent facilities, and attention to detail made it a standout experience. I highly recommend it for anyone planning or attending an event here.

Yelp
I came here for a conference and everything from checking in the gate, to the valet, to how friendly the people are, the overall service, the food , the decor was absolutely gorgeous, and how clean the hotel was, everything was outstanding. If you come to San Antonio and you're looking for a nice secluded hotel that has amazing amenities the services fantastic the staff is super friendly and accommodating and outstanding food. I highly recommend you come here! I know that the next time I come to San Antonio I will be staying at this hotel. I highly recommend this Marriott. It is absolutely gorgeous and there wasn't one thing I was disappointed with this hotel.

Yelp
JWM Hill Country Resort is beautiful and our junior suite was lovely. You can pull up to the entrance and then check in. Self parking was easy and there was a golf cart that would take you to and from your car. We attended a special function Mexican Buffet. The food was very good and the service was excellent. My only negative comment was that the cheap house wine was $18 a glass!! Our meeting will be there again next year and we are looking forward to returning.

Yelp
Gotta update because this is truly one of the Crown Jewels of San Antonio. We had another nice stay here after not being here for several years, and thoroughly enjoyed the short trip. Will definitely be back a lot sooner than later! This hotel is so beautiful, the service is friendly, grounds are immaculate, and so much to do, see, and eat on-campus!

Yelp
This was our second time visiting JW Marriott San Antonio, and I'm so glad we went back! Our first visit wasn't too impressive, especially with the front desk staff. We had to keep asking about activities, and the person helping us didn't seem too eager to assist, which was a bit disappointing for a hotel like this. However, our second visit totally changed my perspective. Right from the start, we were greeted by a gentleman named Nathan, who was super warm and friendly, even holding the door for us and pointing us in the right direction. This time, the front desk staff was amazing--shoutout to Helen! She was so kind and helpful, explained everything we needed to know without us even asking, and checked us in super quickly. My little one was so happy with her that they gave her a big hug! Our room was perfect, right in front of the water attractions, so the kids didn't have to walk far. It was a bit pricey at around $770 a night, but worth it since they could play, come back to rest, and head out again easily. The whole atmosphere was great too. Honestly, it didn't even feel like we were in San Antonio--it felt like we'd escaped to a completely different place! The lobby was beautiful with cozy fireplaces, and there were fun activities like s'mores and a slime station for kids (though we missed that one). We did do a scavenger hunt, which the kids loved. We got some prizes from the front desk. Overall, this visit was way better than our first, and I'm so happy we gave it another shot! Breakfast wasn't included, and self-parking was $31.39.

Yelp
Went to the JW Marriott for end of the summer staycation. Overall, we had a good time. Service was great and bartenders were very welcoming. Overall, the food is OK at best, but there are a lot of restaurants that are close by. The parking is terrible unless you valet. But the grounds are clean and well taken care of the hotel rooms are an average Marriott hotel room nothing special. Time and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Stayed here in November 2023 for five days. It definitely lives up to its four star rating. It's a sprawling complex with multiple restaurants, a water park, spa, golf course, game rooms, gym and shops. Restaurants Cibolo Moon - we ate here several times. It doesn't have an extensive lunch and dinner menu but there's enough that there's something for everyone. For breakfast, there's a buffet for $33 per person, or you can order off the ala carte menu. The buffet is worth it as you'll spend almost that much ordering a juice and breakfast dish. Reservations through opentable. Service was excellent every time we ate here. Steakhouse - I can't comment because I didn't eat there, but they also take opentable reservations. Spa Bistro - connected to the spa. I didn't eat there. Mostly light sandwiches and spa fare. Sports Bar - a really nice Top Golf Swing Suite sports bar with giant televisions and a bar food menu. Lantana Spa I didn't book a spa appointment so I can't comment but the spa does have it's own pool and loungers. First Floor Bar Nice big, full-serve bar with tables and fireplaces. You can also order food here. Rooms The rooms are well-appointed and very clean with seperate tub/shower, single vanity, coffee maker (not pods) and coffee/tea accessories, bath robes, iron, ironing board, safe, closet, dresser, large-screen television, alarm clocks, mini-fridge, overstuffed chair and side table, and desk with a desk chair. Not all rooms have balconies, some just have juliette balconies. There are suites that you can reserve that are decorated for Christmas with Christmas trees already put up and stockings. We didn't stay in a suite, but if you're there for the holidays, it would certainly be worth looking into. The bathrooms have shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner, mouthwash, and lotion. There is also a hairdryer and an ice bucket. Gym Well equipped gym with cardio and weights, towels, and even earbuds! Water Park It was open for limited hours in November as the temps were in the high 70s, but the slides were closed and there were no lifeguards. The water park, in which hotel guests can use for free, has children's slides and splash zone, an adults-only infinite pool, adults-only jacuzzi, snack bar, lazy river, giant pool, two slides, and a sandy beach. Game Room Next to the gym is a small game room with claw machines and a few arcade machines. You can load money onto a card and use the card to play the games. Not in the game room, but on the 1st floor near the sports bar, is pool tables, shuffle board, chess, and checkers. Other Amenities There is a FedEx Shipping Center on site as well as a Starbucks with its own seating area (hours were 7am - 4pm), and a sundry shop with clothing, pool toys, souvenirs, candy, ice cream, snacks, toys, and jewelry, which is nice because it's quite a little drive to the nearest store if you've forgotten something. There are also firepits spread out around the property and you can buy a s'mores kit in the shop. Walking Trails There are a few miles of walking trails one of which is mostly in the woods (follow the signs to Hummingbird Loop), the other direction takes you to the edge of the housing development. They're paved and we saw several deer on our morning walks. There are coyotes so we chose not to walk the trails when it was dark. The property itself sits up on a hill and it's about a ten minute drive to the bottom. Nearby, there are some chain restaurants and a Homegoods but they aren't walking distance (unless you want to go on a really long walk and don't mind walking uphill for about a mile on your way back). WiFi Wifi is free if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member. Parking We did not rent a car so we didn't need to park, but parking is $45/day and there is valet. Getting Around Town We uber'd to Riverwalk which is about 30 minutes away and cost about $30 per ride. The airport was about 45 minutes away and our taxi was $60. It was about 25 minutes to Pearl Brewery (and all the cute shops and restaurants there). Staff The staff were all really knowlegable and friendly. We actually planned most of our dinners out based on suggestions from Devin (valet) who was a wealth of knowlege about the area. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas while we were there, both the interior and the grounds.

Yelp
Nice resort stay in Hill Country. This is no small hotel. Grounds are massive, beautiful and well maintained. It spans 600 acres, which includes a 9-acre water park (River Bluff Water Experience). I particularly like hanging in their modern and comfortable lobby area - grab drinks and meet fun people. Only downside for me would be that the rooms (especially the bathrooms) lean towards being dated. Yet it's not an inexpensive stay. For the price, you could stay at a higher end hotel, especially during peak season, which is when I like to come. The tradeoffs for the dated rooms IMHO, would be the expansive grounds, particularly the water park, which is definitely fun. I mean, who doesn't love a 1000-foot lazy river? I literally spent days just lounging by the pool (I'm really good at that, lol). And there's just LOTS of different pool areas. I really like that how self-contained the resort is. Between the restaurants, the spa, the water park, the TPC golf course and walking trails, they've got you covered for a complete vacay. Technically, there's really no need to even go off the property, tho I did. Because you gotta visit the Alamo, the River Walk and grab some local awesome Tex-Mex food. And of course, check out some homes to keep a pulse on the local real estate scene. In fact there's a new home community under construction in Hill Country just a few miles away from the resort that are being swooped up by Californians left and right. I had good experience with service. One day I noticed a good amount of wrinkles in the bedding (like I wasn't quite sure if it was actually changed), and housekeeping came up pretty quickly and re-did all the bedding. The housekeeper was really nice about it too. Also very pleased with all the restaurants on property as well as room service.

Yelp
Came for the Grinch Ice exhibit. Writing to caution parents-- buying tickets online will add a $12.00 service fee, parking was an eye watering $38 and no validation with paid tickets. Another $30 bucks per person to go on the ice slide thingy at the end. the grounds are pretty. The hotel is beautiful with many trees, lights, wreaths, and fireplaces for Christmas. Unfortunately my kiddo wasn't too into the festivities today and burned almost a hundred bucks thanks to hidden charges. Really a neat experience if you have kids who might like to take pictures with all the sculptures or spend time appreciating the art of it all, but otherwise just seems like a money grab.

Yelp
Nightmare at JW Marriott: A Shocking Breach of Privacy and Trust! I recently attended a conference at the JW Marriott San Antonio, and sadly, my experience, along with that of many colleagues, was extremely disappointing. A troubling incident involving hotel staff and management has shaken our confidence in the Marriott brand. Around 11:00 PM, a male hotel employee entered a female colleague's occupied room without prior notice or justification, completely ignoring the privacy sign on her door. This serious breach of protocol likely violates Marriott's policies and raises significant safety concerns for guests and staff. As a former member of Marriott management trained in guest safety protocols, I find this behavior abominable. To make matters worse, the response from the front desk and management was unhelpful and dismissive. Their handling of the situation was inadequate and, regrettably, insulting to the affected guest. The late-night entry explanation --to investigate a potential "water leak" fails to justify such an intrusive action. It was particularly troubling to hear a manager state they can not "get emotionally involved" when one of their guests was frightened. The manager then told her it was policy to allow entry into her room at 11:00 PM at night. This incident has led many other guests staying at JW Marriott to question whether there were ulterior motives behind entering a single female's room at such a late hour. Even when the guest desired to involve law enforcement, Marriott representatives suggested that the police would not take action, raising further concerns about the hotel's safety protocols. A thorough review of this incident is required. Given these alarming circumstances, the JW Marriott San Antonio must reevaluate its policies and training to ensure the safety and trust of its guests moving forward.

Yelp
We visited for Christmas. The holiday themed events were perfect ... very festive. The property and amenities were top quality and a lot of fun. There is a good variety of options. The food at Cibolo Moon was fantastic. Can't wait to go back next year.

Yelp
We recently returned from an unforgettable vacation at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty.! Every single staff member, from the valet guys to the front desk and employees at the waterpark, went above and beyond to ensure we felt like VIPs. The exceptional service made me feel like a princess! *Waterpark When we arrived, our room wasn't quite ready yet, but we were given wristbands so we could immediately enjoy the waterpark. Our family spent a significant amount of time at the resort's waterpark during our trip. The Rivertop Grill, located inside the waterpark, served delicious food, and the staff was outstanding, of cords. My only gripe is the need for a better pest control solution at the drink stations, as we encountered numerous flies and bees. Both my husband and I found dead bees in our drinks, which was extremely off-putting. The waterpark itself was a dream - the water was perfectly refreshing on a hot day, and there were no crowds. With plenty of tubes available and only about 50 people in the entire waterpark, we often had the pools completely to ourselves. However, we did see a few raccoons walking around at night, which the staff assured us were harmless. Still, I'd advise against visiting the waterpark after dark if raccoons make you uneasy. **Food Our culinary adventures at the resort were equally impressive. Breakfast at Cíbolo Moon was a highlight, offering a vast array of delicious options including fresh fruit, muffins, pastries, cereal, made-to-order omelettes, pancakes, waffles, bacon, and oatmeal. There was something for everyone. We also enjoyed dinner at High Velocity, the sports restaurant/bar with Top Golf. It was our first time trying Top Golf, and we had an absolute blast. We initially booked an hour, but it flew by so quickly that next time we'll definitely book a longer time slot. The food was good, but Cíbolo Moon was my favorite dining experience. ** The Resort The resort itself is breathtaking, with beautifully landscaped grounds and stunning architecture. My son, who is obsessed with basketball, loved the sports area which includes a half basketball court and a tennis court. It's a bit of a walk, but shuttles and golf carts are always available. A helpful tip: you need to get sports equipment from the concierge BEFORE heading over. The resort offers a wide range of daily family activities such as finger painting, bingo, jewelry making, and s'mores by the fire pit. These activities added an extra layer of fun to our stay and ensured that there was never a dull moment. ** Service Overall, our stay at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort was worth every penny. The service was impeccable, with every staff member going above and beyond to make our stay special. Hector, a manager at the River Bluff Waterpark, was particularly kind and professional. If you're considering a visit, I can't recommend this resort enough. It's a luxurious, family-friendly spot that offers something for everyone. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
What a perfect place to stay. The rooms are extremely nice with a great view of San Antonio from your balcony. A nice sized gym for working out and plenty to do at this resort. Theirs a water park as well as a spa. I spent a lot of time hanging out at the bar and restaurant, both had extremely good food. I enjoyed the karaage chicken appetizer and the fried chicken sandwich for lunch. Extra crispy fried deliciousness for sure. Definitely a stay you won't regret. There's also some beautiful trails to jog on for my outdoorsy kind of folks.

Yelp
Great resort. Check in process was excellent by Jonathan. Fast and efficient. Beautiful resort. Can't wait to see the rest of the resort.

Yelp
We won a one-night stay at a fundraiser and finally went during the Fourth of July week (Thurs/Fri). Overall, loved our experience. Room was spacious and clean. Waterpark was fun and thrilling for our young kids. Weather was perfect. Highlights: House wine: The Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay that we ordered as our complimentary free drinks from the bar downstairs was delicious and smooth. Wish we would have started with wine instead of ordering cocktails during our entire stay. Room service: We ordered the $11/each desserts (chocolate cake and warm apple pie)around 8pm at night while we watched Jumanji. Then the next morning we ordered chocolate chip pancakes and kids meal that came with bacon, egg, pancakes. Everything was delicious and the cherry on top of a great resort experience. Lastly, the staff were very accommodating and quick. We asked for an extra pillow and blanket and Aidan was quick to bring it. We also paid extra for a rollaway mattress and they brought it right away. They also allowed us to checkout later.

Yelp
Amazing beautiful property, fun activities in winter, should be even better in summer. Lots of nickel and diming on fees though. Wanted a retreat away from Houston and did a lot of research on Houston resorts before choosing the JW Marriott hill country. Conveniently located 20 minutes or so from San Antonio, you're away from the city but still convenient enough for dinner out if you want. First off - there is a resort fee (which I believe is a scam as this can just easily be bundled as part of the room fee). The benefits you get is usually given to elite members anyways. Also, they cheap out on the complimentary breakfast for elite members and require you to play a supplement. It's a great breakfast, with tons of offerings, but I can get better in Asia without any "supplement". So loss of 2 stars. The hotel itself is enormous, with a massive multi-level lobby, tons of sitting area, huge outdoor lawn + resort complex. Fire pits everywhere, and fun Christmas decorations and activities. Lots of benefits for kids. The rooms themselves are great, plenty of space, very comfortable, huge bathrooms, can definitely live their for an extended time and be comfortable. Oh yes, and huge tvs. Staff is relatively friendly but the outdoor staff could have been much better. I needed help finding tubes and met the most unfriendly staff (didn't even offer to help me get any or show me the way). My wife also got two treatments at the spa ($600+), but I wasn't able to enjoy the spa area with her because I didn't get one myself (so we were forced to be separated for quite a few hours). Guess money can't even buy good service. Another star off. All in all. This property is a fun stay, but still needs to work on some of the services. Will probably check out other hotels before I come back.

Yelp
Our second summer stay here and it was better than the last! We love this resort and are officially making it an end of summer tradition.

Yelp
First off ill say that the hotel looks amazing and the grounds are great... but parking is very limited- maybe 150 spots or so and then you have to pay valet. Furthermore for over $500/night youd think the bed would be comfortable but NOPE. OLD FASHIONED SPRING MATTRESSES!!! What the actual F. Contacted the front desk for help and they advised me that they could offer a second mattress cover for us at no extra cost, it didn't change anything and the beds were still just as uncomfortable i left with a sore back and a knot in my neck. I'm really frustrated that I'm getting replies from the hotel as if they actually care. Y'all know that this is an expensive hotel, it is a JW. The standard should most definitely be higher for the beds provided! we are Bonvoy members and stay in a Marriott of some sort every month or more. Staying in an AC., or even a lower line like a townplace suites offers much better beds. Y'all should be ASHAMED taking advantage of people are this "resort" Also i'll note that the Mexican restaurant has no Mexican food in it. They have tequila and queso that's about his Mexican as they get- we left the hotel go get Mexican food. There is also no pizza available though online it says they have a restaurant in the hotel. We had to order Domino's. Lame.

Yelp
Just left here after a quick long weekend getaway and amazed by everything. I think what we were most impressed with was the hospitality. The grounds of this resort was immaculate. It's the little things like when it starts downpouring rain outside there are complimentary umbrellas to use by the exits provided to the water bottles provided in the rooms. Checkin was a breeze and thoroughly enjoyed Rebecca here, so shout out to Rebecca! For being so over the top kind and answering any and all of our questions. She definitely helped make our stay a memorable one. Our room was superb more than enough space we could ask for. A very spacious balcony that was so relaxing to sip coffee out on. Large couch dining table, bar area with fridge. Every restaurant we tried here we were impressed and pleased with. We even ordered room service and it was right on time. The pools here were so serene and heated! Loved that! We never got to even try out the water park - next time! We will definitely be returning guests!

Yelp
This resort is absolutely gorgeous and has views for days from probably all of their patios. We had a wonderful experience with all staff. They are dog friendly if you have a service animal like we do. Other than that no dogs. Enormous pool area with lazy river perfect for families and also an adult pool area with no kids is nice. Several restaurants. Golf lovers you will love the course. Definitely check it out for a vacation or staycation.

Yelp
Use to love to come to this property but had my last trip there and will not go back. Expect another $100 per day for parking and resort fee. Service for a JW was subpar and not up to my expectations for this type of property, very transactional and insincere. Pool was dirty and unkempt during the day, another place to gain some more money where you have to reserve chairs poolside.

Yelp
A resort Marriott with golf course and plenty of family activities include pool. The standard king room is very nice, a typical JW Marriott room. Photos are of a first floor room. Free laundry area is a bonus for families and long term stays, Multiple swimming pools including adult only pool. Golf $150 / round Lisa at front desk is very nice. Valets- very helpful and attentive

Yelp
It's has a lot of things to do, but it's crazy expensive and could be better. For starters, after taxes and resort fees it's like $700- 800 per night. It was $1400 total for rooms Saturday and Sunday night over Memorial Day weekend. Add food etc, and it's easily $800 a night. I know that's a super busy weekend, but that fee doesn't include any food at all. No breakfast include. However, 2 welcome drinks are included which is a house wine or draft beer. For a big as the place is, it's overly crowded. We had a hard find finding a place to sit at the water park. On Sunday, by 10:20 most chairs were already taken - luckily we found one. Just one. The hotel staff is pretty friendly and helpful as it should be. They had random entertainment events throughout the day and night for kids to do. For instance they has game2u on Botha nights from 6-8. Once bounce houses for toddlers and the line was crazy long. Like a 15 minute wait to go through the bounce house once. They also had Velcro hatchet throwing, but hatchets rarely stuck. They had gaga ball, but it was crowded and fell bad for older and younger kids.... Younger kids got crushed and older kids didn't have too much "competition" Other random items were face painting, build a sail boat and other activities. Lines again were pretty long. Zero playgrounds in the property or at least I did not see any. Figure kids would maybe like this as alternatives to other items. They had had an arcade which was not overly crowded that's because it was expensive. They also had indoor shuffleboard and pool tables - again it was hard to get a table. And the minute you did people were hovering waiting for their turn. The water park while difficult to find a seat, the ride themselves went quick and lines were not too bad. Normally under 8 minutes of waiting. Also, felt like the pool/water areas themselves were not overly crowded. They also had bbq ( as an extra cost) both nights. It was alright convenient, but definitely average/typical at best. Overall, we had fun despide how crowded and expensive it was. I'll add that the way they do s'mores is inefficient and impossible to get the chocolate melted because after you "cook" the marshmellos you have to stand in a line to have staff build the rest of the s'more.

Yelp
If you're looking for an amazing stay at a top-notch resort, look no further than the JW Marriott Resort in the Hill Country. As a Silver Elite member at Marriott, I was blown away by the exceptional hospitality provided by Oludare and the staff during our stay. Oludare went above and beyond to ensure that our every need was met and that every detail was taken care of. His timely responses and sociable personality truly made our stay unforgettable. The rest of the staff was just as exceptional, accommodating our needs during Lent and making sure we had an outstanding experience. One thing we couldn't stop talking about was the seared Gulf Wreck Fish, which was an absolute delight. And the Canyon Lake continental breakfast was perfect in every way, right down to the set-up. We dined at Cibolo Moon multiple times during our stay and were thoroughly impressed with the waiter's attention to detail and commitment to ensuring that we had a fantastic experience. In addition to the exceptional service and dining experiences, we also had time to relax and unwind at the resort's adult swimming pool, which boasts some of the most beautiful views of the Hill Country. The pool area was a true oasis of relaxation, and the hot tub was an added bonus that we thoroughly enjoyed. The JW Marriott Resort in the Hill Country provided us with an exceptional stay that was truly unforgettable. From the outstanding service to the incredible dining experiences and relaxing amenities, we couldn't have asked for more. We highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a top-notch getaway, and we can't wait to return. Thank you to Oludare and the entire staff for making our stay so wonderful!

Yelp
We found more to like after our second stay here! PROs: + Big outdoor water park, exclusive to hotel guests! Some of the pools, including the lazy river and toddler area, are temperature regulated between 75-80 degrees. Not enough to get me in on a February afternoon, but the cold won't stop kids who are having fun. + The resort provides many different amenities and activities, though understandably less so now than during our pre-COVID visit. We enjoyed the pickleball court, Longhorn Scavenger Hunt, S'Mores, and hotel restaurants. + Free and ample parking is a major perk of being out in the hill country. IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES: - Ground level balcony door (Room 2131) was tricky to open and close. We figured it out eventually, but instructions to lift the handle while twisting the lock would have been helpful. - In this same room, there was no way to shower without water gushing from the lower faucet. We tried all the different knobs and handle combinations, and still wasted tons of water each time anyone showered. - To get help with these issues and make changes to restaurant reservations, we tried calling the front desk and the restaurant, but contacting hotel personnel by phone was a whole event each time. Between long wait times, mixed connections, automation, and the difficulty of getting a live person on the line, you'd think I was disputing an insurance issue. Consider that my call was coming from a designated handicap room and what that would mean if someone was in dire need of help. But when these are the kind of issues we have with the JWM, I'd say it was a pretty sweet place to spend the long weekend.

Yelp
If I could give this resort a zero I would ALL based on the response I was provided. NO ONE reached out to me to figure out the room number or anything else. Leads me to believe it was a fake political response of Management

Yelp
The place is amazing no doubt about it. We've been coming here every summer for the past 5 years, when was an automatic 15% service fee for the food added? This fee better be going to the one armed man working in the pool area. That man was probably the hardest working man in this location. I will give credit where it's due and this man ran literal circles around these kids. All kidding aside, because of this fee I did not feel the need to tip. Which brings me to my next rant, tipping in this county is out of control. Just pay your employees a livable salary and eliminate tipping altogether.

Yelp
Fantastic location. The entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. You can go here and never have to leave for anything. From the relaxing heated pool next to the "beach", that goes hand in hand with the lazy river, to the delicious food in the High Velocity Sports Bar with its ginormous wall to wall wave of televisions displaying sports games for all, to the tasty Tequila bar that no one can deny. A great time can be had by all.....

Yelp
Live in a nearby neighborhood. Have been visiting the restaurants and spa for 6+ years. Tried to enter property on my personal golf cart (road legal specifications in TX met). Was refused entry "for safety reasons". Furthermore, parking will now cost neighbors $19.56 for 0-4 hours. Well there goes our twice weekly ride up to grab coffee on the weekends, weekly meal at one of their restaurants, and at least one spa visit per month. Good luck during your winter months when you are not a destination of choice. Really regretting increasing our use during COVID because we wanted the business to be strong. Only plus in that was that we were also trying to help their employees also. Restaurant competition coming right on TPC Parkway soon. May the neighborhood choose to patronize them year round and help them build a strong business.

Yelp
This property was sold last year to a group for 800 million (google it) and has kept the JW name, which is why so many people have noticed a decline in service. This is a JW Marriott in name only resort. So many issues occurred this year, that hadn't occurred in previous years. So yes, beautiful property, grinch ice, Cowboys playing on the big screen...all things that are phenomenal and undeniable! Newer this year...check in was long and unorganized, new pay for parking (resort fee/parking $100), increase in all foods and drinks, pay for the scavenger hunt and kids cookie decoration, and theft in the room from house keeping (this was witnessed and not assumed). Staff appear newer and untrained. Lack of management on site. So when you apply logic, this company is attempting to recoup funds after a $800 million purchase, if you have been in previous years, you will notice massive nickel and dime from start to finish. Also, very generic responses from anyone receiving a complaint or who claims to be manager, (scroll the reviews here and notice the generic responses from the person claiming to be the manager). You will arrive excited to be staying at a JW, you will leave like you stayed at the local Motel.

Yelp
A nice staff, but what isolation. I was there for a week and the highlight was the pickleball court and the Velocity bar. The rooms were tired with Paul Mitchell product for a resort destination and old fixtures. The beds are still higher Marriott quality, but the pillows were Motel 6. For my stay they must have had labor problems since 2 items that occurred during my week never got resolved. The final kick in the shins was the arbitrary closure of the golf course on a Monday morning. No explanation online just no Tee Times. A ittle extra misery in this isolated place.

Yelp
Ok first I will start with the good things about the hotel. Friendly service, quiet spacious rooms with both a shower and separate tub. This place is huge, but also left a lot to be desired. The sheets on my bed had stains, see pic. The bed was hard as a rock, and I got very little sleep because of it. The pillows smelled like a man's body odor. The tub doesn't hold water for more than 7 minutes, yes i timed it! The toilet paper holder is behind the bathroom door, so if your alone and leave it open, it's a pain to get to it! I was here for a 3 day conference and we had all our meals here too!! The best part was the ballroom desserts both Thurs and Sat night. Now, the server named Marcus serving us last night, gave all the men at my table a salad and skipped me! When my coworker said hey what about her? He says I'll be back, but goes and serves another whole table their salads before bringing me one! I was the only woman with 7 men and he doesn't serve me until he felt like it! We all were in shock! Rudeness to the core! The place has two pools and a nice area with an outdoor venue. Wish I could have enjoyed my stay, but sadly it left a lot to be desired.,

Yelp
I will start by saying we use to love the JW. In 2014 my husband proposed to me there. It's always been so special to me . Nine years later I decide to book the same room literally 9 years and 2 days to be exact that he proposed. I had to book a room first online and then I was able to speak to someone at the resort to switch the room for the specific room I wanted. The representative was so nice and said she would set the room up with flowers, champagne, and a card. When we checked in the guy said he read all the notes and everything should be good. I had my phone ready to record my husband's reaction to being in the same room, and seeing the surprise, and to my surprise, there was nothing completed in the room. I was really upset because I was looking forward to it. I called room service and of course nobody could help me out. We went down to the lobby and the representative apologized profusely, but said there was really nothing they could do. At check out when we got our bill we noticed that they charged us double for valet. my husband went to talk to them and they said they were able to take off one of the charges. They said they don't know how that happened but there was a lady standing behind my husband and she said that happened to her as well. Maybe don't make any surprises at this hotel and expect it to be completed and check your receipt that you're not double charged for anything. This resort is not cheap to stay at. It was over $500 for one night so I'm very disappointed.

Yelp
Pool is absolutely disgusting. Filled with tons of leaves and debris over almost every inch. Either so filthy or overchlorinated that all three of my family member got a rash after swimming in it. Also 0 enforcement of chair saving. Expect to see every chair with a towel/belongings on it but no person ever going to their chair over the course of several hours. Food and drinks are also sub-Taco Cabana quality. Parking is nightmarish and the entire hotel is overrun with unsupervised pre-teens.

Yelp
Pros: Nice water park Rooms spacious Staff friendly Cons: Too any restrictions at the pool Everything is pricy in the resort Parking is limited Check in was easy, but initially I had checked in on the app and requested a mobile key. At 5pm, my key was still in process, so we decided to head to the hotel and just grab the normal keys. Once there, the line was long, but it moved pretty quick. We received two complimentary welcome drinks even though we had booked for four adults. The room: Clean. Spacious. It had a small balcony. The beds were comfortable. The pillows were super soft. Good for some of us, but not good for those that need the support. The room has a fridge. The bathroom was huge. The tub and shower were separate. The water pressure was good. Toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, soap. They do have a coffee/tea station in the room with complimentary coffee, tea, creamer. Two small water bottles are replenished daily. The pool: pretty big water park. They have different slides and the lazy River. The main pool is big enough for everyone. They have enough lounge chairs. It's super nice that they have cold water stations for hydration. The weekend we went the bees were out of control, but what can one do. It's Mother Nature. The lazy River floats sometimes are taken for the slides, so you may have to wait for one to float by you. Pool towels are available at all times. The biggest con of the water park is that you're not allowed to bring in your own food and drink because they sell it there. Their prices are ridiculous. $16 for a cocktail, canned drink?!? They periodically have a staff member checking bags at the door. If you have a yeti type cup, it must be empty to go in. Parking: they have valet and self parking. I can imagine parking is limited on the weekends. We arrived on a Friday at 4 and we had trouble finding a spot. We finally found one on level 5. Self parking is uncovered. It would be really nice if they had golf carts picking up people from the parking lot. FYI: They have a laundry room on the 4th floor and it has a microwave you can use. The restaurants are open late. One has a buffet that changes each night, but not bad for $37

Yelp
Excellent hotel with great spa, golfing, adult pool, cabanas, good restaurants, outstanding staff service, fun activities for children and great water park; pools, watersides, lazy river, and beach pool.

Yelp
Great place for a quick weekend trip. We booked it last minute and drove down from north Austin (about an hour and 15 minutes) and within 15 minutes of arriving we're checked in and into the water park. So within 2 hours of Austin you can be swimming. The water park is great albeit quite busy this time..they have multiple slides including a vertical one that the floor drops out, some tube slides and a floating river. Lots of night time activities for the kiddos also, marshmallows,. Outdoor movie, treasure hunt and inflatables the weekend we went. Also things like shuffle board, ping pong and pool indoors. One pro tip, even though the water area opens early, the slides don't open until an hour later... Overall, a great last minute trip and easy from Austin.

Yelp
Beautiful location and amenities; perfect for conference, day of golf or family vacation. Relax on lazy river or adventure on water slide with kids. Several outdoor areas with fire pits to relax at day end, on-site restaurants to keep your stay convenient, room service as well. Starbucks will start your day off right. Large gift shop with regional gifts, snacks, drinks, and wide selection of sundries.

Yelp
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country does nothing about the problems customers have they just respond with Generic responses and a sac of lies to make it seem like the issue is taken care of or to make it seem like they addresses the issue. So unless they are correcting the problem, do not comment with generic b s. Fix the problem.

Yelp
We were here for a convention. Kids ran the show. We couldn't rest because of unsupervised yelling kids in the hallways. Kids were allowed at the Crooked Branch bar. Need a drink? Just push that baby stroller up to the bar. Order lemonade for the baby and a tequila shot for mom. I saw this happen! We couldn't even order a glass of wine due to the amount of kids gathered around the bar. Parents ordered buckets of beer while tiny children stood around in the way. If your company is looking for a place to book a convention, I don't suggest this hotel. Again, the kids ran the show. I get this is a "water park hotel" however, this was not an ideal environment for a convention. Employees need to be enforcing areas where children should not be. Unsupervised packs of kids is never a good time. When does this become a safety issue? Many of the unsupervised kids we saw were 12 and under. We tried to enjoy the adult pool area today. Parents were drinking in the adult pool area, and kids were checking in with them there. A positive was how hard the young adult servers tried to accommodate all of the people in the adult pool area.
