Google
Great place to get a good old fashioned burger, fries and ice cream. The service is great, very friendly people and the food is consistent and good. You can see the kitchen from the order window, looks like surgical center clean. Would be great (5 stars) if they had heaters in the covered outdoor searing area and some public bathrooms. Always my go to when I want a cone or burger and a smiling face.

Kally Shar

Google
Ice cream/shakes were delicious, pretty generic chicken tenders, and corn dog as expected. Great service, cute stop with fun stats on tubs of ice cream or lbs of fries sold and some history.

Scott Smith

Google
This place was worth the stop for me. 100s of times up & down the I-5 hwy but my first exiting southbound, ( many times Northbound ) . Caught them at closing time but they were more than happy to take my order with a smile. Read the history of this place while waiting & learned they have been there for years, keeping it family owned and operated. You won’t be disappointed to stop for burgers to fantastic Ice-cream , from what I enjoyed. Didn’t see any indoor seating, but plenty of covered outdoor dining tables.

Google
I always love stopping here when we are headed south. The milkshakes are always delicious. The onion rings are wonderful, and the portions are huge. This is just plain great down to earth drive-in food. The picnic tables were clean, but they do look out on a gravel lot with lots of freeway noises. There was always plenty of parking, and the extra lot was great for our trailers!! I definitely recommend them.

Google
My husband and I just had lunch there and I have to say the natural grilled chicken sandwich was the best I have recently eaten. My husband's hamburger was great as were the tater tots we shared. Service was super friendly and very efficient and when we are in the area we will eat there again.

Google
I traveled I-5 each month for many years - between Hood River and White City. This place was a must stop for me both ways. Best hamburgers in the PNW! We moved to Arizona a few years ago and there's nothing to compare to that little trip off the freeway, sit out in the open at a picnic table and enjoy one of those delightful burgers that drip down to your elbow. Thanks for the memories!

Google
Wow! What an incredible burger. I stopped in here with my father for a quick bite to eat on the way home. We both ordered a cheeseburger and milkshakes. The burgers were awesome and the shakes were thick and creamy. Wait time was minimal and the staff all seemed genuinely happy. Fun little stop off the road for great food.

Google
The food was delicious. We got cheese burger and it was delicious. We got double bacon Cheeseburger and it was delicious. And medium fries too. If you would like a great fish sandwich, take a trip to Rice Hill. Stop at a place called K and R. They have great burgers and fish sandwich. We took a trip to K and R at Rice Hill. We had a wonderful lunch, We had a bacon 🥓 cheese 🧀 burger 🍔 😋 👌. We also had fries and a milk shake too. Best place to eat South of Eugene, Oregon Had Bacon Cheeseburger 🍔 😋 and a Blackberry shake 😋 👌

Yelp
Love this place but only come thru a few times a year.. short business hours, so often miss it

Yelp
Heading back home to San Diego from WA and saw this spot on the map. Figured we try it out. Off the 5, it's a nice spot to stop and grab a bite. A burger is $7 bucks the no fries, that's another 3.25, which if you think about - it's still WAY cheaper than McDonald's. And it's fresh, not frozen. The ice cream and shakes were delicious. The food was delicious. The ladies were courteous and the service was great- considering there's only a few of them working. You can sit in their shaded patio and enjoy. Con: No bathroom. So go before you head here. Maybe put a few port-o-John's and it'll be great. Overall- I'd come back if in the area.

Yelp
Driving a long stretch of I5 with no dining options we pulled off at a truck stop town looking for the Subway. Directly past the exit however, was K&R's faded sign. It is a traditional drive in, no inside dining but plenty of tables under an awning. The menu is very simple, a few burgers and a phenomenally large ice cream/shake/ malt and sundae menu. We shared a cheeseburger which had lots of stuff, lettuce, pickles, onions, tomatoes and sauce and a very fresh bun. Soooo good! We shared a Butterscotch (hand dipped) shake - heaven. Service was friendly.

Yelp
I've been stopping here for ice cream since the 1980s. Fabulous selection of uncommon flavors, and they have egg nog shakes in June!
google avatar

Paige N.

Yelp
This is a tradition now for family & friends! Been stopping by every road trip we make for 40+ years. The ice cream -- cones, cups, or shakes -- is FANTASTIC and the servings are huge! Food is great too (although I admit we rarely get anything except ICE CREAM!).

Yelp
Not a place to go if you are in a hurry, but worth the wait. Best halibut sandwich we have had in a while. We really liked the pulled pork sandwich. Reminded me of the BBQ beef sandwiches that were popular years ago. It is sweet and not for everyone. Fantastic root beer milkshake. It would be hard not to find your favorite ice cream flavor here. The tots were perfectly crunchy. No restrooms. Covered unheated outside seating. This place seems the same since our families stopped here when we were kids and then with our kids.....way too many years ago. We will return with our grand kids.

Yelp
I just want to say how delicious that bacon cheeseburger and steak cut fries was and on top of all that I got two scoops of ice cream, huckleberry cheesecake and praline. I will definitely be coming back. I usually stop at that pilot and get a slice of pizza if I'm not cooking anything in my truck but now I know where to stop! Thanks again ladies for your great food and awesome customer service!

Yelp
What happened to K-R Drive Inn? It used to be our favorite place to stop and get ice cream along I-5 on road trips to California. After several years, we stopped in expecting the generous portions & great ice cream we remembered. My husband's "blackberry milk shake" was WHITE. He thought he mistakenly got vanilla (we were already driving down the road & he didn't want to go back). I tasted it and sucked up one blackberry seed through the straw so I guess it had part of a blackberry in it? It tasted like nothing. He couldn't finish it it was so bad. I just wanted a scoop of peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce but they said I had to make it a "single scoop sundae" with whipped cream and a cherry, so I reluctantly agreed. It was ok, but I wouldn't do that again. Infact, we won't do K-R again. If you live by a Winco, go buy your own Umpqua ice cream. Maybe their hot food is ok but we didn't have any. Oh, and their restroom is gone now too. Is that even legal? They directed me 6 mi down the road to the next rest area. So disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
They are slower than molasses. The food is nowhere near good enough for the wait. They have zero urgency to serve customers and there's no bathroom. Booo!!
google avatar

Nina L.

Yelp
We had a long hot day of moving and stopped in on the way home for the burgers that are super good. We decided to get a brownie supreme but there was a mix up and we got a strawberry shake. We were a bit bummed but we said it was alright and took it. They then gave us a free brownie supreme that was super good. The lady was super sweet! We love this place!
google avatar

Martha S.

Yelp
As truck drivers there aren't a whole lot of mom and pop places we can stop. Today was our first time here. The staff was extremely nice and even explained how the shakes and sundaes worked. The food was great. They even gave our dog a treat. So needless to say she like it too. She even got spoiled with a few tastes of the whip cream. Thanks for great food and service. Remember to support local businesses.

Yelp
This place is a dump. Like literally a few old trailers smashed together with some uncomfortable old sticky tables. But I could forgive all that if they had even halfway decent food or even bad food at a good price. I ordered the double bacon cheese burger and some chili fries. Almost $21 for just that. I didn't even order a drink y'all! And look at the trash they gave me. Chili on "steak fries" yuk. Soggy old bland taters coved with canned chili and get this, not shedded cheese, not cheese sauce, not a slice of cheese melted, but a few bits of diced up cheese slice. Like WTF?! I don't want your old dusty half a hand-full of yellow confetti, gimme some damn cheese. I done paid for it. These people should be embarrassed to show their face in town. I hope the owners are hermits that are the last of their line so they don't have to suffer the ridicule and shame their family should have for them to be the proprietors of such a trash heap. Rip-off!
google avatar

Yelp
Vanilla malt VERY solid! Cheeseburgers an above average pleasant surprise! Don't let the ambience dissuade your burger cravings, K&R kicked our rat burger proclivities into gear! Am already plotting when to go back to beautiful and expansive Rice Hill!

Yelp
What an adorable little drive up. We were on a road trip to Portland from the Umpqua Hot Springs & found this place on yelp. The choices for food on a sunday night kind of in the middle of nowhere were limited but this was a yummy stop. The exit on the freeway is kind of weird, going north, you will need to exit and go under the freeway to come back around to the restaurant on the other side of the freeway. We passed it the first time when GPS said we were there while still on the freeway, Its a bit weird lol. The fries were yummy steak fries, GREAT portions, my BF and i shared a medium and it was literally the bottom half of a bag filled. The burgers are delicious & they use great buns. Im kind of surprised people talked so much crap on the food, its good drive in food, gordon ramsey isnt back there serving up burgers lol. Burgers, fries, chicken tenders, shakes, ice cream scoops. Its a drive in on the side of the road, no bathrooms, just good old school drive in food & the UMPQUA ICE CREAM is omg! get it, you cant get it anywhere else but around this area. California isnt lucky enough to experience Umpqua dairy products lol I would definitely say this is a good stop for some food while traveling

Yelp
Great burgers and fries, amazing shakes and ice cream! We always stop here on our way from Portland to Los Angeles. Outdoor seating was plentiful today, but the tables needed to be cleaned badly. If we sit down next time we'll remember to bring some sanitizing wipes with us.

Patti B.

Yelp
Ive been stopping here every time we pass by for years (40+). Always has good burgers, fries and ice cream. There is plenty of parking for an rv, or horse trailer. May not be a gourmet burger, but way better then any of the chain fast food joints.
google avatar

Jordan D.

Yelp
Always good food. The workers are really quick and kind. Great icecream selection. Perfect for summer time.

Yelp
A family favorite whenever we're visiting family in Oregon. Tater tots and Umpqua ice cream - Yum!

Yelp
Such great memories of this place as a kid. Looking forward to giving my kid his first experience next week.

Yelp
This place is an Oregon institution and has been a family favorite for years. Until today I never knew its name and for many it is known simply as "that ice cream place in Rice Hill" as you drive I-5 between Eugene and Medford. Take the time to read their history and 'rules' when you take a break from the road. It has been around for over 30 years and they definitely do it their way. I've never eaten the food, but can't drive by without stopping for some hand scooped Umpqua ice cream (35+ flavors). You can take it easy with a 'baby' scoop or work you way up. Large = six scoops -- two scoops each of up to three different flavors. No bathrooms, but they have a shaded area with long picnic benches. Just don't eat all the chocolate peanut butter before I get there.
google avatar

Roger F.

Yelp
My favorite hamburger joint. Reminds me of burgers back in the 60's. Bacon Double with everything on it. Blackberry Shake. YUMMY not a fancy place eating outside.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Walked over here from the Flying J across the Interstate. Ordered a cheese burger and fries. Went back to order a sunday and was told "We're Closed." The girl had just served three other people and STILL HAD THE ICE CREAM SCOOP IN HER HAND. I looked at my watch. It was 8:01. I've been here before. The hamburgers are pretty good. The fries aren't terrible but they aren't anything special. I won't be going back.

Yelp
If I could this racist Ass place Zero stars I would!!! I'm sure the food is probably nasty and blan with no seasoning and cooked in dirty ass oil! but... my experience here.... I see a lot of cars thinking cool let's try this place and get some ice cream.... waiting to order behind a gentleman.....walk up to order with my kids Window was closed in my face and stayed closed! So I got the hint... Took my two young boy (9 and 4) back to the truck because "they don't serve our kind" So as soon as got in the car... they open the window and began taking orders.... we were the only colored people there and I pray change for this world to have my kids experience the disrespect because of the color of their skin makes me sick..... so middle finger up to this place and my advice is if you are of any ethnicity besides White SKIP THIS PLACE FOR YOUR OWN SANITY AND RESPECT!!!!

Yelp
Great place to stop for awesome shakes... Always try and hit this place on the drive from Seattle to San Francisco and back
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream and shakes -- just took them a long time to make our two milkshakes. I think I waited about 10 minutes which isn't so bad, but they weren't doing anything else and realistically, milkshakes don't take that long to make. They were tasty though!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here in a road trip with my family, very cute little drive in, due to covid their tables were tapped off but it would a cute little area if they were open. There was quite a few people so ordered took a bit, not big deal. Our food came out piping hot nice and fresh. I ordered the chicken strips, they were okay. Nothing special. A little disappointed that they didn't come with frys. My husband got the fish and chips, he said they were pretty good. My mother in law got a burger and said she LOVED it. After we finished with out food we went back for dessert. I got a waffle cone which was great and hit the spot. My husband got a milkshake and said it was good and my mother in law got the supreme sundae. It came in a little paper dish and was a big mess. She said it was good as well and the brownie was nice a hot. I would come back again if I was passing through. Nothing to special though, the atmosphere is what gives this place a 4th star
google avatar

Yelp
Been here a few times, mainly due to the boredom of the road. $3.50 for a scoop of ice cream? Meh. You can get a whole container back home at the grocery for about the same price. Stand in a slow moving line for rude service. No restroom? No place to wash your hands?
google avatar

Darren H.

Yelp
We stopped here on our way back from San Diego this past summer and I was just reminiscing about it, so I thought I'd add a review. We only ordered ice cream, no food. The line was long, but moved quickly. It gave us time to look over the vast assortment of flavors. The ladies working inside were quick and efficient. We each got the $5 bowl with 2 flavors. Sure, we could just buy Umpqua at the store, but it was nice to have a sample of a couple of flavors before committing to buying a whole container. After a day and a half on the road, it was the perfect treat.
google avatar

Yelp
No, there are not bathrooms here, though apparently before I can remember, as likely before the pilot station across the way was built, they had porta potties. It's not a big deal, go under the underpass and go to the Pilot station. I've come here since I can remember, my family would always stop here on the way to Medford or California, usually a couple times a year. I always loved getting ice cream here, it's been an ongoing tradition that I have since continued with my own family. Sometimes I get regular food, their food is overall good, I've had their fries, burgers, and BLT they were all well-made. It is old school drive-in fair, iff you like that. The ice cream usually has generous portions(more so in the cone than a dish, I recommend getting a cone!), and is what I usually stop for. The staff is generally nice, I've never had Abby issues throughout the last 30yrs. While it won't blow your mind, it's a bit of a throwback in a good way, and I am always in favor of supporting traditional businesses like this one that have been around for 50 or so years, and have a very very consistent quality overall. It really is a first world problem complaining about you having to go maybe 1000 feet to the pilot station or AMPM for a bathroom. God Bless ~Amy
google avatar

Kimberly P.

Yelp
I'd give them 10 stars for the historical significance of surviving in our current "fast food nation". For the quality of their ice cream offerings, I'd give 5 stars. Their prices, though...wow. Felt they were pretty high for a location that seems to lack much overhead. With that said, I still can't really complain. The milkshake we received was thick and rich. Umpqua ice cream is pretty delicious! And, the waffle cone with two scoops was more than generous in size. They also have a large selection of sundaes, malts, burgers, sandwiches and sides to fill you up. The nostalgic drive-in style building makes you wish for simpler days, and after the madness of a long road trip, this is a welcome stop to get a sugar rush and a break from the windshield.
google avatar

Jackie W.

Yelp
My family has been stopping here all my life. Stopped again yesterday for some ice cream on our drive home. It was cold and as delicious as ever. Ice cream for 6 and 2 waters for 24 bucks! Fairly priced and quick if you're just getting cones. They were pretty busy on a Sunday at 5, but I'd say handled it well.. they did give a pregnant woman's ice cream away to the wrong person (whoops) people were friendly and plenty of space to respect social distancing.
google avatar

Kim P.

Yelp
4.75 for the worst burger! Cold and dry Wow paid 6.75 for a cold patty that was too small for the bun and over salted fries and no drink. If you took the time to make me fresh fries, why couldn't Ya fry up a fresh beef patty???? We've driven past this place so many times and dropped. By today. Wish we hadn't. Disappointment. Good for locals because of slim Pickens in the area, but still. Totally gross to bite into a hamburger as cold as the pickles. I'll be pissed of I get sick. And what's up with sending ppl to the pilot to pee or wash hands? where do you pee or dare I ask wash your hands? Look I'm just pissed that the burger is making my stomach feel like crap. The meat was /is that pre patty crap from Costco. THE BURGER WAS SO COLD AND OLD. It should have been wasted out instead of served to people. Either bad standards, managers, owners, employees, but be careful of this place, where if you get sick it will not surprise me. To the people who are saying place is an institution? Did you guys escape one? Crazy. Because I dont like the mcDs, bk, jack Places like you some of you. This place would make a.gas station burger taste good in comparison.

Yelp
Ah, the K-R. Famous -- in it's own way -- for two things, The Rules (look for the typed, photocopied manuscript taped to the window) and a killer selection of hard ice creams from Umpqua Dairy. Some things to know: this ain't a bathroom break. There are no facilities here or anywhere this side of the freeway - you have go around through the underpass to the Texaco station for such indulgences. A small is two massive scoops of one flavor. Don't even ask if you can get two different flavors in a small or you'll be banished. You can, however, order and pay for a medium in two flavors and then ask to give up scoop #2 and #4, thus paying for a medium and getting a two-flavor small. These and other famously cranky policies are lucidly explained in the aforementioned manuscript. Read it, learn it, know it. So... why five stars? There is no way I would drive by Rice Hill during K-R's business hours and not stop for at least a shake. I'll even admit to driving a bit slower after passing through Eugene so I don't get to Rice Hill before opening time. It is what it is and that is the perfect American drive-in.
google avatar

Dave A.

Yelp
Half-way between Washington and California on I-5 lies this unpolished gem, known mainly to its cult following. Road warriors plan their trips around hitting Rice Hill at meal time. Unpolished is an understatement, as this place is nothing to look at. It appears to be a couple of single-wides stuck together and converted into a kitchen with walk-up order windows. Do not judge this book by its cover. Instead, take a look at the amount of cars, trucks, big rigs, etc. parked in the tiny lot. It's a little hard to find from the exit, and the map above does not have it right. It's on the west side of the freeway. What brings in the travelers is the hard ice cream. They serve lots of different flavors in lots of different forms, and single scoops are the size of softballs. Of course they also have all the diner "road food" you would expect. Alton Brown would be proud of this place, for sure. Everything is good and fresh, and perfect for the road-weary interstate traveler, and those in tow.
google avatar

Fraya S.

Yelp
We saw this on the list of must visit places along the I-5, so we decided to stop here. Living in Portland, the best ice cream for me and my family would be Tillamook. This place introduced me to the goodness of Umpqua ice cream, that I think is not that much different from Tillamook. One scoop is about $3.5, a little higher than the previous place I went to further south where I also had 1 scoop of ice cream for about $1.5. There is nothing fancy about this place, they have some wooden benches and people just come and go. If you are tired being on the road, this would be a good place to stop and refresh. I am not sure about the food items, we ordered some tots that turned out to be pretty salty, so there's that. Service was ok, they didn't get our orders mixed up or anything. I would say they are pretty friendly. Also, they prefer cash than card.
google avatar

Rosquete B.

Yelp
4*K&R Diner Rice Hill Been there for decades Great stopping off place on I-5 from or to Eugene Have burgers and other fast food at reasonable prices The ice cream here is the best anywhere The shakes are killers Great flavors e.g., spumoni One of our favorite places Friendly service Seating is outdoors on picnic tables Minus: no restrooms Highly recommend

C B.

Yelp
Bummed to see that although on the outside they have all the Covid safety stuff underway (masks require to order, tables closed to allow for social distancing, cash transactions require a wait so cashier can wash her hands, restrooms closed).... ALL STAFF INSIDE ARE PREPPING ALL FOOD WITHOUT ANYONE WEARING A MASK, WASHING HANDS OR WEARING GLOVES.

Cheryl S.

Yelp
We stopped on our way home from Ashland to WA as we have for the past 30 plus years. I stood in line with my mask on as all of the customers were wearing and social distancing. As I got a better view I noticed the girl at the window had no mask taking the order and then I watched her scoop the ice cream with no mask. Needless to say, we left without ordering. Very disappointed that what is required by establishments and customers, they were not doing their part. I will not go back!
google avatar

Sierra M.

Yelp
Honestly this is a perfect spot to pull over if you need a bite. The prices are a bit... high, though. My usual thing is a salt pretzel with cheese sauce, and/or cotton candy ice cream. They have good Umpqua ice cream here. It is a hit and miss on whether or not this place is super busy. It's really inconvenient if it's busy, because they always only have one person working orders/register, so they will take one or two orders, shut the window for like, five minutes, go work on those orders, and then come back to the window and take a couple more. They have multiple windows, but always only keep one open... it's a little infuriating sometimes. Usually, it's pretty quick, though. They have a seating area off to the right of the order/pick-up windows, that's shaded. It can get pretty gross, though. It's kind of like going to a park picnic table and never knowing if there are going to be wasps just flying around your head, you know? I prefer my air conditioned/heated car... Overall, this is a nice treat sometimes. Back when I was going back and forth from Ashland to Eugene two to four times a month, I would stop here almost everytime, just to get an ice cream (also to get out and walk a bit so I wouldn't just fall asleep at the wheel)...
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
$3.50 for one-scoop - are you kidding me? Go to the nearest grocery store and buy yourself a GALLON of Umpqua ice cream for that price. Or better yet, get Breyers - it's much better. Just a note that Oregon's new outrageously high minimum wage is driving prices out-of-sight at most restaurants, so senior citizens on fixed incomes are really being priced out of the fast food market. Thanks, UNELECTED Governor Brown.

Reenie S.

Yelp
On May 26, 2020 this restaurant continues to defy OR governor's order for restaurant staff to wear masks as protectIon against Covid19. Upon seeing no masks worn by staff preparing food, I specifically asked if the preparer would please wear a mask a she made my milkshake. Her respond was, "We don't have any here". That is absolutely unacceptable!
google avatar

Cassandra A.

Yelp
What a gem in the middle of nowhere. This was suggested to me when I mentioned an incredibly long drive I had to make as a half way point. I stopped with the family for lunch and ice cream. Their food is definitely decent- we tried their hot dog, burger, onions rings and fries. They're ice cream menu is pretty extensive, definitely something for everyone (including the dog!). If we drive through again, I'd definitely make another stop.

Jim O.

Yelp
Best milkshake on I-5 -- BUT employees not wearing masks. When asked if she would put one on while making our shakes, employee responded she did not have one. My understanding is that all businesses must require employees to wear masks and must provide those masks for their employees.
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
I'm obsessed. It was so good. M has noticed this place and has always wanted to stop, so we did. I got a cheeseburger with all the fixings and extra cheese, he got a double bacon cheeseburger. We shared a small fry and chocolate malt. My burger was so amazing, the perfect size, the patty was 3 or 4 ounces and fit on a big bun. I can't stand those awful one pound patty steak burgers. They have lots of ice cream flavors. The fries were not too exciting, the malt was good. My only gripe? They need a bathroom, even a honey bucket would do.
google avatar

Anonymous C.

Yelp
Good ice cream, a lot of flavors I haven't had anywhere else (I tried the Spumoni and it was good). The food is okay and it's convenient when you don't want to cook. A big downside though is the cost because for essentially an open concept ice cream parlor, they sell their ice cream at twice or more the average cost of the same amount of ice cream in a different parlor! At the end of the day it's not that big of a difference if you eat alone but since we're a family of five we only go occasionally.
google avatar

Zach W.

Yelp
Their big thing is ice cream and shakes. The shake was not good. I got the most popular flavor chocolate peanut butter and the flavor was ok but it was absolutely filled with chunks of ice crystals. The place is a pile of mobiles attached together and is pretty large but doesn't have a bathroom at all. We were told to go to the Pilot on the other side of the freeway to use the bathroom. Won't be going back.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
Excellent! Can't really say more than that. We stop whenever we dri e through Oregon.
google avatar

Angelo I.

Yelp
You'd be initially surprised with how high the prices are when you pull up. I paid $20 for a bacon cheeseburger, a hamburger, and onion rings and fries. The food is decent enough not to be upset or let down - especially if you're coming off the freeway looking to fill up, but not mind blowing enough to say to yourself, "great choice, mate!" BUT, their ice cream saves the day. They serve Umpqua ice cream and had some tasty flavors. $4.50 for two scoops in a cake cone. A little pricey but for sure better than any of the stuff you'll find at the gas stations. I had the cookie dough and pistachio almond. It was awesome.

I love K-R, I would go on family trips from Seattle to Medford at least 3 times a year. I always begged my parents to stop at Rice hill to get a "pizza burger" now I always stop when I am going through. There is a lot of ice cream options and the food is delicious!
