Overall, my family and I had a great experience staying at the Alii. The Alii is essentially beach condos with resort-like amenities. We stayed 8 nights in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo with a mountain view (although from the lanai we had a glimpse of the ocean). The condo was well-appointed, spacious, and had all of the amenities we needed (washer/dryer with soap, coffee/tea, kitchen stocked with flatware, cutlery, pots/pans, dishwasher). Housekeeping was prompt and provided great service. The only drawbacks were that the DVD player was broken and the wifi in the room cut in and out constantly.
The resort offers a gym (I went twice and was impressed. Although it's on the small side, they have a lot of equipment), tennis courts, an activity center (you can buy snacks or check out DVDs for free), pools/spas, and BBQs (they provide everything--tools, seasoning--just show up with whatever you want to grill). There is no restaurant or bar on the property, but you're a stone's throw from Whaler's Village, or you could walk along the beach sidewalk to go to the other hotels (Marriott, Hyatt Regency, The Westin, The Sheraton).
The pools were nothing to write home about, but you don't stay at the Alii for the pools. There are plenty of lounges available, although the ones with the covers and under palm trees get taken early, so you may be stuck in the sun if you get there after 11am or so. There is a "quiet pool" but a lot of parents don't care and let their obnoxious, loud children splash around there anyway. There is a covered lanai with TVs, water, restrooms, and a place to pick up towels and chair covers.
If you want a seat on the beach, just ask one of the pool staff to get you set up. You are steps away from the ocean! They also have showers available so you can rinse off the sand and ocean water before dipping into the pool.
Self-parking was a breeze, even though it was spring break and there were a lot of people staying there. Upon arrival, they do have staff who unload your bags and groceries and parks your car for you.
I would be happy to stay at the Alii again!
