How Rotterdam, Once an Industrial Port Town, Became a Pioneer of Thoughtful Urban Regeneration

"Rotterdam is packed with taprooms and indie breweries, but Kaapse Maria, the second outpost of local craft brewery Kaapse Brouwers, remains one of the best, with 24 IPAs, stouts, and pilsners on tap."

A Hidden Gem for Foodies This cozy local bar exceeded our expectations with its exceptional food. The shared plates were a delightful culinary journey, showcasing fresh, locally sourced ingredients in innovative yet simple dishes. The balance of flavors was impeccable, and the presentation was stunning. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a special occasion. The carefully curated selection of craft beers and spirits complemented the meal perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised by the dry, not-too-sweet taste of the natural orange wine we paired with our dinner. The attentive and knowledgeable staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. If you're seeking delicious nouveau cuisine, a great atmosphere, and friendly service, this restaurant/bar is a must-visit.

Kaapse Maria has such a unique vibe — moody, eclectic, and full of character. The drinks are creative without trying too hard, and the music is always on point. It feels like one of those places where you instantly want to become a regular. Great spot for late-night conversations and people-watching.

We stopped here for a beer duringourfood tour. The place brews their own beer in multiple varieties. On a pleasant evening, it was delightful to sit outside in their café. Both mine and my wife's beers tasted wonderfully.

Great place and people, too bad Kaapse is a far cry from what it used to be pre-covid. I remember ordering 330ml barrel aged stouts for 6-7 euro and having the time of my life as a beer enthusiast. Now it's all about beer served in "tasting" portions or 250ml anorexic glasses. Getting both inflation and shrinkflation treatments has made me avoid the place completely and prefer more honest breweries elsewhere. It is sad for me every time I come here as Kaapse was always my no.1 place to go, but now it just feels like a tourist trap. It was a good run, though.

Great craft beers and good food. The atmosphere is great, as are their seating options. You can always ask for recommendations as their staff is very knowledgeable. It is also a good venue for private events (upstairs). Highly recommended

Google
Horrible food. Unfortunately i did not take a photo, but we ordered the "Charcuterie" which is basically a very small portion of cold cuts of dubious quality for EUR 18.00 and doesn't even come with a piece of bread. Ridiculous. Those are their "honest" ingredients? Cheap cold cuts with small pickled cucumbers from AH? Guys you should change the menu and just serve more basic food but perform better.

Awesome place for a craft beer and a small bite! 24 beers on tap!!! More than enough to choose form. You can order 'half' beers, making it easier to taste more, seeing that the taps change regularly. Enjoy!

Yelp
I miss traveling and finding little local gems like Kaapse Maria. We had just spent a couple days in Bruges and stopped in Rotterdam on our way back to Amsterdam--mostly cuz I wanted to see the city's amazing architecture. This spot was a random find while exploring the streets and neighborhoods and instantly caught our eye. The interior was really nice, service super friendly, and good variety of beer & wine. We had just eaten dinner so we only grabbed a couple snacks while enjoying a nightcap--a local craft beer for me and a natural wine for the wife. Great stuff and I hope they're doing well during these COVID times.

Yelp
Great beer selection and super nice bartenders that let you sample anything you want (within reason). The space has sidewalk tables, a backyard, bar and table seating on the first floor, and even a large open second floor. Super cool. It was my last night in Rotterdam, so I just took it easy over a couple of sours. They had some really adventurous beers as well.

Yelp
Kaapse Maria was a surprise find in Rotterdam. Away from the main street (the name is eluding me right now) this little gem is a craft beer/wine bar. We noticed what was probably one the largest selection of unique taps (12ish?) we'd found in the Netherlands, we poked our heads in and made ourselves comfortable. While their wine by the glass selection was rather small, the options were great and focused on what I imagine are small producers from local regions. I think I ended up ordering some kind of natural German wine that was delicious. The menu, while small, is asian inspired and while we only tasted the blistered & seasoned edamame appetizer, we'd guess that another item (gyoza, etc.) would be delicious too. Service was very friendly and our bartender even made suggestions and let us sample a few beers/wines before we selected a full pour.

Yelp
Amazing, good quality food coupled with a great craft beer and natural wine selection. Kind, knowledgable and helpful staff
