Pretty divey but the food is pretty darn good. This used to be another Filipino joint called Kadok's. I thought that place was gross, so was kinda hesitant in scoping this newer tenant. I shop in this complex occasionally, so I braved it and gave them a couple of whirls.
So far on weekday lunches it's been this same young dude that's served me. You order at the counter, pretty small menu of combo plates, most being $12-$13. The dining area is strange in that there's always supplies and stuff lying around, so it kinda feels like you're eating in their storage area. Lol. I only ate inside once as when I ordered it for take-out, when made the food were on plates on tray. So I just ate half of it and asked for a box for the rest.
They also don't seem to want to use any cards as payments, maybe for a larger catering order. I usually have at least a $20 in my wallet, so I haven't had to walk out.
Combo of Fried Bangus and Longanisa ($13ish/3.5*) I don't think I've ever had this combo of fried milkfish and a sweetish garlic sausage. The fried fish part was okay, the marinated type in garlic and vinegar. Fried nice and they do give out a nice meaty portion. The longanisa part was also ok, slightly sweet but also savory. What I didn't really care for was the fried garlic rice part. It had some dark seasoning to it like Maggi seasoning that I normally don't care for. So instead of a nice fried garlic flavor this just tasted like sauced rice that had been fried. I ended up using my own rice from home, since I took this home anyways.
Combo of Pancit Malabon and Bbq Pork ($13ish/4*) The pancit part was surprisingly good. Not top-notch ingredients like a home or sit-down place but good enough. Thick rice noodles, covered in a savory garlic sauce maybe enriched with shrimp. Nice garnishing of hard boiled eggs, ground pork and a few poached shrimps. Need to squeeze a big wedge of lemon as to brighten the rich sauce. One of my favorite pancit preps actually.
Bbq Pork was also surprisingly good. It wasn't on a stick but rather they slice up pork shoulder meat which has a rich texture of fat to meat, almost like pork belly, just not as fatty. They then marinate those slices and cook them off so it looks more like a stir-fry. I didn't like the looks at first but upon taking bites, my mouth and eyes both agreed in harmony. Delicious texture and flavor, their marinade is really good, a little soy, with something sweet and maybe a touch of garlic and maybe some acid. And since the pork were in little pieces, each piece was packed in flavor. Crazy good over white rice which I ate as a second meal at home.
This plate also had some fried lumpia on there, which was a nice surprise. A tad greasy but good flavor in the pork filling. Nicely rolled too.
Turon (4*) I forget how much this cost but they fry up a bunch and they sell them by the piece. Long versions being about 7-8 inches in length, and stuffed with the fat tropical bananas and maybe a sliver of jack fruit. It is fried til crisp and coated in a sweet glaze. I once saw a huge order of these up front waiting for pick-up, so they are known for this. I always ask if they have these and I usually take home a couple.
They've got a small bev cooler with drinks, and even surprisingly has beer in that cooler. I've yet to see other diners eat in tho. But if ever in this strip, I wouldn't mind in checking them out again. I do like this better than the other point and pick spot a few doors down.
